More than 200 of Potter's finest paintings and drawings are featured in full color in this magnificent book which demonstrates this beloved illustrator's wide range of artistic skills.
Exactly what I needed from a book in these times of war and strife. Beautiful representation of a side of Potter that I never knew existed. Limited text in a few introductory pages and then… you page through her work. Peaceful and calm.
Really, really enjoyed this book. It is a beautiful overview of Potter's art and the text is simple and telling without getting in the way of the artwork.
Beatrix Potter is well known for her Peter Rabbit stories but, before she was a full time story writer she studied nature. With a short 20 page introduction on Beatrix and her works, the rest of the book shows her detailed art work with descriptions. She studied many forms and styles of mediums, she followed and looked up to many artists of her time, and she became recognized as a scientist after her death. (getting credit for her work on fungi and spores)
Five stars for the selection of artwork, three stars for the "art world" guff in the introduction section. Prime example: "Amateurs, usually behind the times, make little progress through their careers - but Beatrix Potter was more than an amateur." A thoroughly unnecessary statement and criticism, bleugh.
A Beautiful collection of Potter's art work. The book focuses on those works other then those featured in Potter's famous children's books. it is therefore a great look at some of her lesser known works.
I learned alot about Beatrix Potter....and found I like her landscapes alot too. Not only was she a very creative story teller but a wonderful and detailed artist too. I did not know she used a maginfining glass to create some of her insects, flowers etc. Love her art and her books.
The book had short fascinating facts about Beatrix's background on how she became such an accomplished artist. It is a decent taste of both the work she did for her noted children's book illustrations as well as things such as scientific illustrations.
Spectacular! Actually, I will never really finish this book. I use it as a reference in some of my art projects. Potter was a magnificent watercolorist. I use her works for guidance and form.
