Outfoxing the Dragon is a m/m shifter romance novella. Coming in at 151 pages, it was a quick read for me, but..... unfortunately it fell flat in some areas for me. I always hate leaving less than great reviews, but not every book will be my favorite, right?
I could SEE what the author was going for in areas, but it just didn't work.
Some of the spicy scenes were great, but the overall storyline and plot was just lacking.
The idea of a fox shifter and dragon shifter being fated mates is ... interesting. I can say I've never seen another book with that specific match.
I liked Brandon and Damien's personalities. And I did like that the author gave us a little epilogue at the end too.
Overall, a decent book.. just could use a little MORE.

Brandon is a down on his luck fox shifter. He takes a super sketch job to burgle another shifter's empty house. Damian is a dragon shifter entering his Frenzy. A twice a year two day event wherein his dragon takes over and it’s all kill kill kill, mate mate mate, eat eat eat, you get the idea. He's decided to hole up in his home, alone for this so as not to hurt anyone.
Unfortunately its the same house Brandon tries to burgle. Brandon and Damian end of being mates and spend much of the weekend shagging their brains out and then trying to figure out who set Damian up and why. It wasn't bad at all. In a sweet, fated mates, absolutely no angst whatsoever kinda way. Normally a solid 3.
So why the low review. There were small things I disliked. Brandon insisting on a condom the first time but then suddenly it was okay to go without. A few random typos here and there. Nothing to warrant a drop from a 3 star though. It was the font that tanked the rating. Font, you say? What could be so irritating about the font? Every few pages, a word would be written in a different font and letter size. FOR NO REASON. At first I thought it had something to do with the character’s animal selves trying to make a point. But then it became completely random. It was soooo distracting.
I looked through the reviews and found multiple people have commented on this and the author still has not revised the book which seems gosh darned sloppy to me. I’ll read more by this author but if this continues I’ll have to stop.

3.75? Not quite sure what my personal rating is but I enjoyed this one!
I went in to it knowing only the title and had no idea what to expect :D
What will you get?

- possessive frenzy
- a lil bit of a evil vs good plot
- book hoard
- a dragon who thinks of his mate as his treasure
- cuddling and carrying
What would have made it better for me?
- more hoarding
- possibly having a better idea of what Damian is like sans Frenzy.. it made their first interactions a tad ..hm one was unsure how to feel
- less focus on the enemies
- more other stuff being solved in the book instead (all the stuff that is mentioned needs to be solved before the epilogue happens one paragraph later)

This... Well, was on me. I'd gotten this a while ago and it'd been a minute since I'd looked at it. Honestly, I was looking for something to fill the X slot for the A-Z challenge and this was shorter as well. Interesting enough sounding and already had it in my library so... Good to go.
But this He’s caught breaking and entering — into his mate’s heart in the summary alone really shoulda made it known. It probably did and I dismissed it cuz it's short. Welp, it certainly didn't feel that way.
There are just soo many things I don't even know where to begin.
Okay, easy one: all. the. typos. Whoa.
I couldn't really get behind either character as there was nothing to them. We're thrown into Brandon's desperate need for money and then fated mates and a shit ton of sex. The friendship part with Marshall in the beginning was probably more interesting. Brandon also breaks into his Damian's home for the sketchy-ass job and then invites said friend over to his fated mate's homeafter lots of fucking when he didn't know the slightest bit about him, let alone what kind of shifter he was, knowing nothing at all even about the house. I wouldn't be homicidal in Damian's shoes (well, probably I guess being all dragon shifter, Frenzy, etc), but I would most certainly be upset regardless about a stranger being randomly invited without my knowledge by a stranger (regardless of fated mates)... Damian being all "Intruder"? Can't blame him.
This was overall OTT and inconsistent. Brandon's scheme to put things right especially. Straight up from a 90s sitcom.
I did like the ending "chase" scene for the most part.
Not sure that I'd read another by this author but this was published quite a few years ago so... probably? Either way, I did finish this a few days ago and have been reading/read other stories between so... (Don't think it really would've changed this review much, however.)

June 22, 2024I may or may not have actually finished this but don’t care enough to check. I’m pretty sure I did and it was lame. The conflict is absurd, everyone's behaviour is completely off the rails. Unfortunately most of the book is spent with Damian in his Frenzy so we don't really get a feel for him as an MC at all.

This had lots of great elements in it: plenty of hot sex, some humor, and a bit of a caper (or two). I was a little unsure of Brandon (our erstwhile thief) at first. I was picturing a daring cat burglar, a professional caught in the act. That is not Brandon. With Brandon we have someone given a good reason and a lot of money to do what seems, as it's explained to him in the job, a not-so-bad thing. What he finds when he gets there blows a lot of plans out of the water! I really loved Damian, especially in his sex-obsessed, dragon-brained Frenzy--that was where some very funny moments were. Oh, but also where a lot of quite sexy moments were too! Poor Brandon doesn't know what's happening or what he's gotten himself in to. However, they definitely make a great pair and I loved how they managed to bring everything back to order again. I appreciated the author giving us a little epilogue to tie everything up too. I've enjoyed other books by this author and was pleased to find this one to be just as fun and frisky (Frenzy-ed?).

Brandon is a fox shifter and a out of work English teacher. Living with his best friend he is getting desperate for a job because he is almost out of money. Getting a job offer for a fox shifter, he enters into a sketchy and illegal job. Damien is a dragon shifter and is entering into his "Frenzy," a condition where his dragon takes control and he reacts to his baser instincts. Dragon catches fox and find they are mates. Brandon can't get any answers from Damien until he comes out of his Frenzy and Brandon can't "fess up" until that happens. There is an exciting blot in the story and the author keeps you guessing as to why Brandon was given the job and gives you frequent hot gay sex keeping you entertained and hot under the collar. The resolution of the story is satisfying and as an HEA at the end. There are grammatical errors and needs some editing, but a good book none-the-less.
