The Brobots are back in another mecha action meets Mother Goose mash-up! This time they're up against the Semisweet ChocoWitch of Crime Brulee Mountain and her crumby criminal cohorts. Take a half cup of Power Rangers with a tablespoon of Powerpuff Girls and add a dash of Voltron for a recipe we're calling—Brobots and the Mecha Malarkey!

The Brobots are going on a picnic, but they forgot the picnic basket. Fortunately (or maybe not so fortunately) they find a gingerbread house in the forest and start chowing down. The owner is a bit upset at her house being turned into a picnic meal and launches a counter attack. Of course the Brobots can't take an attack from a mecha-gingerbread-house-bot or ninja bread men laying down. Though they may have to enlist some help and once they realize they're original mistake do some heavy duty apologizing too.
Oh my goodness, the puns are sometimes a bit overwhelming and painful. But the most creative Hansel & Gretel/gingerbread man adaptation ever has to get several stars despite numerous puns. And I really like that the Brobots eventually realize they destroyed someone's home in their snacking and make restitution. A very creative Japanese robot monster fairy tale mashup perfect for reluctant readers.
The art style of Brobots is adorable and that's all I really have good to say about it. The story has all the random antics of an early episode of Adventure Time without any of the likable characters or worldbuilding that made the show interesting. Our main characters all pretty much blend into one with their main defining quality making bro-related puns that honestly aren't that funny.
I can see a preteen boy enjoying this, but it's not so great as an all-ages read. It's just not that good.
Hansel and Gretel and The Gingerbread man folktales in a futuristic robotic society...complete with ninja bread men. Quite a good twist on these old stories- especially when the protagonists recognize their mistakes and make amends.
This one is a handel and gretel/gingerbread man mashup. These all follow a very specific formula which I think is good for these early reader type. Comics.
It's daft and wacky, full of puns and got some riffing off of fairytales. I particularly liked the ending where they help rebuild her house and tidy up the city. But the ninjabread men getting eaten by the fox might be too much for some kids if they don't know the classic fairytale. And I don't like that the brother robots were the ones tricking the gingerbread men into going into the foxes mouth. I know that's how the fairytale goes, but I didn't want the heroes doing it.
Brobots destroy the Sweet witches house, then she gets revenge. A bit of a twist on the gingerbread man story. But then how would you feel if someone destroyed your home because they were hungry?
