I'm so glad to have taken the time to re-read some of these lesbian classics on my bookshelves. Takes me back and reminds me that these are the pioneers of lesbian fiction. These are from the days when you found lesfic books in gay and lesbian bookstores around the country. This was published in 1997 when Goodreads wasn't available for recs and Amazon had just been founded a few years before. People often had to travel to a bigger city to even find these books and then had nothing more than a blurb on the back of a book to decide right then and there if you were going to buy it. And since those trips were often rare, you bought a bunch at once not knowing when you'd get to do it again. Ah, those were the days.
This was a quick read - and definitely an ideal what-would-happen-if-you-found-love-at-your-high-school-reunion story. While there is a lovely romance, it is also about lost loves, returning to your home town to move forward in life and finally letting go. It's also about reconnection with family and friends. While there are uncomfortable moments in shedding that past, it's ultimately a feel-good read. It's been a very nostalgic time enjoying these stories again - well before it was common to be out and gay marriage was but a dream.
It's pretty amazing knowing that author Linda Hill has since become the founder and CEO of Bella Books and Bella Media. Times have certainly changed!

Going back to face old friends and a lover you haven't gotten over is never easy. This book had a nice twist to it. It left me wanting a little more! I wonder what the future has brought to the lives of everyone, will they go to the next reunion and will everyone's lives be different?

Another go-to book whenever I don't feel like taking risks. The ending is a bit rushed, but the MCs are sweet, and I really like the secondary characters, too, especially the sister.

This is a solid 4 star older book that is well written, has engaging main characters and a solid believable story. Jennifer returns to Des Moines for her 10 year High School reunion and a chance to exorcise long held feelings for her long ago lover. There are engaging side characters including Jennifer’s sister, adorable kids and old/ new friends to embrace. Then there is Heather. I really enjoyed this book and this author. Can’t wait to read another.

Detailed score: 2.5

A very quick read for a full priced novel.

Very shallow - didn't really feel depth of emotion from any of the characters. The pwoar scene were brief and strangely unsexy

It was an okay pass the time of day read if you can get it for free

I didn’t read Class Reunion when it first came out back in ‘97 when Naiad Press published it. I didn’t get the to ‘the big city’ where there were women owned bookstores that carried Sapphic books, very often. It was my loss.
Needless to say, I loved this book. Being about the class of ‘77 (the year I graduated HS) I could so relate to the dread of going back to the place, and the people who hadn’t been safe or supportive of a young lesbian, and facing the secrets (shame) and skeletons in the “closet.”
All of the characters were perfectly drawn, and believable. The story was layered, well developed and emotionally charged. If I had one negative thing to say it would be that it was too short. I would have loved more.
This was the first book I’ve read of Linda Hill’s. It definitely won’t be the last.

The story in concept is nice but the author didn’t really expand more on it. I think this book could’ve been a bit longer (only 16 chapters) as I felt there wasn’t enough development for Heather and Jen for when they finally got together, along with Jen trying to be away from Sheila. That was too rushed as was her character. The side characters are enjoyable, the writing was decent, and this book had a lot of potential. If it was longer, I would’ve given this book 4 stars.

I really enjoyed the story and the characters. But the editing of this book almost threw me out of it. The name of the bully was changed from Danny to Johnny and back to Danny in the prologue. There were misspelled and missing words, but I was interested enough in the characters to continue reading.

Nice, easy little romance. The main characters are likeable and it's easy to see where the story sprange from it's heading.

It’s a perfect read if you have a high school love you still think about. The book portrays a realistic reality of a high school reunion and how it probably would feel to meet the one girl you crushed on back then. I really loved the ending. Many books aren't able to satisfy all the way through, but this book truly is.

Good story

I enjoyed this book a lot. He characters well developed. Jennifer and Heather's relationship was well done from when they were kids to when they were 28. Sheila's persona as the traditional "b....ch" was well done. Allison's relationship with Amy was well established from the get go. It would be nice to see the 20th high school reunion and what if anything is there with Allison and Amy. Sequel please!!!$$
