This book has been the most horrible sh*t I've ever read and that's saying something because I've read some stupid sh*t before.. 😫

And before I get the author's fans attacking me for my opinion on this horrible book please NOTE that this is not an attack on the author.

****Everyone is entitled to their opinion so please keep that in mind.****

With that being said, I'm returning this book and getting my money back because this is childish sh*t if only all the characters in this book had sat down and talk about everything it wouldn't have caused such of stupid and unnecessary drama but can't expect much from childish characters.

The only likable character for me was Steel

Yeah when he told her off I liked him a lot more..

The Male Character and secondary Male characters are ALL manwhores and Female character is weak pathetic excuse of a woman and don't get me started on her best friend who cheated on her boyfriend with his own brother.

‘It’s been three years. You’ve got to let Asher go for good.’

description

Abbi Glines delivers yet another overdramatic country read that involves a love triangle. Yet I’m super surprised just how much I enjoyed this book. Yes it contains several soap opera moments and once again has that typical heroine who everyone deems as walking perfection. Still, I liked the characters and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

PREFACE: In the past, I have enjoyed many books by Abbi Glines. But somewhere along the line, something changed significantly with her last several releases, and she just hasn’t been up-to-par with what I expect when I pick up one of her books. I might add that those books remain some of the most high-priced in the romance category. Also, I was surprised and aggravated to find the manuscripts riddled with editing errors that are glaringly obvious. A good proofreader could easily spot them. I'm aware that some readers skip right over these problems and aren't affected -- but I'm not one of them. I especially expect better from a second release, a $3.99 price tag, and most importantly, from a NYT Bestselling author. My review makes clear exactly why my feelings have taken this turn. Some may feel I’m being highly critical, but this is my honest view and I’m sticking with it and making no apologies.

***

If this book feels familiar, there’s a reason. It’s a re-run of Asher (Boys South of the Mason Dixon - #1), a book Abbi Glines wrote originally in 2014, under the pen name Effy Vaughn. Now she’s dropped the pen name and is republishing the series under her own name. It could be that she feels the series will get a better following to boost sales using her name as the author. But it’s still old news folks – nothing new to get excited over in this second round. Frankly, I wasn’t impressed with either the two released “weekly” serials or now with this first “full length novel.” After waiting more than two years for the rest of the story, readers are once again back in a holding pattern awaiting the arrival of whatever new material might come next in the same storyline with no posted release date in sight. I think I’m done with the whole messy shebang. Hopefully, each of the Sutton brothers will eventually find their true loves and live happily-ever-after.

OMG! I simply can’t forget to mention those book covers either. Awful! I guess they fit the “hick” vibe that gives the storyline an almost comical feel. Come on -- you can do so much better!

Down south along the Mason Dixon Line live the five Sutton brothers -- five gorgeous bad boys. Only thing keeping them in line is one strong-willed momma who rules the roost. There's a wide range of diversity in the personalities among the five that keeps things jumping. The story stays true to southern roots and is a mixture of emotional angst and drama. One thing stands strong throughout: they love one another without question and are all momma's boys even in the roughest of times.

Two of the Sutton brothers, Asher and Steel – and one neighbor girl, Dixie Monroe, make up the triangle in this first installment. Of course, there's a big secret held tightly that has stirred up a ruckus for three years. Asher has spent most of that time in Florida attending college, leaving Dixie without explanation. And in steps Steel to wipe her tears and win her heart. I'm not going to spoil the big wowzer hoopla that results with the return of Asher to the family farm. Add in the twins, Brent and Bray, along with the youngest brother, Dallas, who bring plenty of opinions and comedy into the mix. And I gotta give their momma a nod for being the pillar of the family. She's a saint with a little devilish side to her. I’m assuming they’ll each get their story told at some point, since we were introduced to some possibilities that lead in that direction with another love triangle involved, too. Can we just say, "overplay?"

Overblown drama and an awkward attempt at the hick language and lifestyle. There was very little focus pointed directly on the main two characters, Asher Sutton and Dixie Monroe, because of all the interruptions for planting details on the secondary characters. The book was half over before the relationship between Dixie and Asher fully came to light casting a wham-bam insta-whatever cloud over the entire circus. For a romance to work you have to build the connection. There was hardly a foundation laid here.

And yes, I kept reading. Heck - at this point after more than two years of waiting to know more, I was almost desperate for new information on what is taking place in this soap opera family. None would ever be considered as a favorite book-boyfriend or girlfriend. I found virgin Dixie to be a weak and sniveling character, while her best friend, Scarlett was a trollop and tease. The romance wasn’t particularly stimulating. Too many misunderstandings and sibling fighting and rivalries kept the boys in the immature range. Near the end, right out of left field came changes with new points of view thrown in by secondary characters that add absolutely nothing towards the story. It was just pointless -- once again taking the focus off the main characters.

The plot has some potential – that much I’ll admit. And the characters on a whole are entertaining to some extent and could be so much more so with some effort. Overall, the story is a bit over-the-top and stretches the imagination at times – especially that last surprise dump which felt like a last-minute Hail Mary pass. It was a fumble in my opinion. Definitely no points on the scoreboard.

The writing was less than stellar. The cheesy dialogue felt like a forced attempt at Hicksville-type framing. That said, the prose felt slightly underdeveloped and the plot lacked emotional depth and maturity, as well. A waste of money and time on this one. I guess I hoped that Abbi Glines was making a comeback. This is truly as perfect an example as can be found for driving readers away from ever starting another book series. At this point, I’m sorry I didn’t listen to that little voice in my ear when it screamed, “don’t one-click.” Fool me once – or even twice – but then I am done, finished, outta here!

This story as about Dixie and Asher. Dixie as loved Asher since she can remember. Even though he is a few years older it never mattered to. She didn't think she stood a chance he had a reputation with the women and some were even older then him. But one day Asher kissed her and everything changed they were a couple. Dixie was on top of the world until one day he broke it off never told her why and never looked at her again.

Asher is super sexy good I like him straight away. He would do anything to protect Dixie it's alway been Dixie she was the only girl he could really see. Even when he was growing up she was alway there he loved her do much she was his forever until one he couldn't be that forever anymore he had to do something that would kill him break Dixies heart.

I was a lil unsure about this story as first with the whole love triangle story but I don't know why I was worrying I should of known I would love it this author as never let me down. I alway love her books. My heart broke for nearly everyone in this book I don't there was a character that I didn't feel sorry for and I think I had a few tears in parts of the book. Dixie and Asher were so meant to be the more of read the book the more I was cheering for them to get there act together. Like I said I m dying for Bray's book after what happened with him I need to know how things are goin to go. I would highly recommend this book I really enjoyed it.

***3.5 stars ***

I enjoyed this book considering there was a love triangle in it. This would be why my rating is on the lower side as I'm really not fond of the awkward love triangles! I didn't know when I started the book that there was one in here! I am still glad I read it though!

There are five Sutton brothers!!! I'm in love with all of them!!! I can't wait for Bray's book though as he seems to have the most demons! Why I go for the most screwed up; I'll never understand!!!
As far as the hero and heroine in this story; they have a chance at love from a really young age; but a secret is discovered by Asher and it changes everything about his relationship. He leaves Dixie with no explanation, and she is devastated. Three years later he comes back... and the love they have for each other is still strong... but there are complications! Will they get a second chance at love???

I'm absolutely looking forward to the next book and all the other brothers books! I had forgotten how much I do enjoy Abbi Glines work!

I gave it 3 stars because I finished reading that is a great thing lately. I gave up on several books that I lost interest or found too bad.

Asher Sutton’s truck. It was famous. Well, at least the stories about that truck were. All girls in town wanted to experience Asher’s truck. He was known as the best kisser in town and he was by far the most handsome boy I’d ever seen. I knew he’d had sex in that truck with a college girl just last week. And Asher was only sixteen.

Asher Sutton had destroyed me. I shouldn’t react to him anymore, and I most definitely shouldn’t care anymore that his face was still chiseled perfection and his body that of every woman’s dreams.

I went from being one half of the “golden couple” to the discarded girl who surely must’ve done something horrible for Asher to throw her away and never look back.

“Oh, Dixie,” she sighed and pulled me into a hug. “You know he won’t. It’s been three years. You’ve got to let Asher go for good.”

I caught a glimpse of Asher, standing at the pool table, with a grin on his beautiful lips. His arm was propped on Andrea James, Emily’s older, college age sister. She was leaning against him, enjoying herself and Asher doing the same.

I knew Asher was popular with the older girls. He was popular with all the girls, regardless of their age. They all wanted him because he had it all— looks, charm and mystique.

One night he was loving me, telling me he wanted me forever. The next day he couldn’t even look me in the eyes. And he never told me why.

I refused to glance over at Asher and Emily freakin’ James.
Emily of all people. Asher knew how she’d once treated me. And he’d done it anyway.

I’d been with other women since her.

“After what I’ve seen, what I’ve been through, I don’t think love is meant to be easy. At least not the kind worth having.”

Oh em gee, I freaking LOVED this book! Honestly, it felt as if Abbi took everything I love and created this book especially for me. I'm a sucker for a love triangle and a forbidden romance theme, and with the additional complexity of the boys being brothers, I was in literary heaven. All five Sutton boys are hot and intriguing and I cannot wait to read more in this series. The angst and drama levels were exactly to my liking and the pacing and writing were spot-on. And Asher, oh my, how perfect is he? Totally swoon-worthy and so selfless and I loved him from page one.

Roll on book two, please :) I hope we don't have to wait too long and I'm dying to know which of the brothers it will be about. Would love to read Bray's story next as he is so troubled and out of control and I just know it will make for riveting reading.

Awesome job, Abbi. I don't even mind the fact I have massive dark circles under my eyes this morning from staying up half the night reading.

*** UPDATED 05/16/2017***
I received the full book yesterday. Well, I changed this from a 3 star rating to a 4 star rating. It was predictable but it was also one I could not put down once I started. I really enjoyed the chemistry and the pull these main characters all had. And to have from multiple points of view was an added treat for me.

Disappointed

I love Abbi Glines!!! But when I spend $4 on an eBook, I expect a real book. Not a 20 page tease!!!

UPDATED - (4/26/2017) per Amazon - Once the actual full book gets published/updated, our e-books will be corrected and the content will be automatically updated. Whereas I am sad I do not have the book right now, I totally understand why. Just wish there was better communication when it happened. But problem resolved. YAY!

I still love Abbi Glines and I am absolutely nuts for her The Field Party series.

Her recent books are just super boring. This book lack drama. Most of the time the characters are whining or crying.

I expected a love triangle bcuz there are 5 sutton boys then . Then Abbi throw another plot twist out . Ok fine that salvage the story a little, but the love triangle is like an endless tug of war. One minute I love you Next minute stay away from me bla bla

This is just the prologue and the first two chapters. Abbi said on her website that the entire book will be available on May 15.

She is trying to write and juggle the demands of being a new mum so we as readers will just have to wait a little longer.....

Possible spoilers ahead, you've been warned!

This is the novel version of an unfinished serial that Abbi wrote under the pen name Effy Vaughn. Too bad because the serial is much better. It had heat, the sex is more explicit than her usual books.

The new version is abysmal. I have problems finding things to like in it.

What I like?
1) Steel and Dallas.
2) That the heroine is a virgin and faithful. Just personal preference.

What I didn’t like?
0) The book cover. Need I say more?
1) The flashbacks. It distracts the flow of the story. I would have preferred a more linear storytelling as it helps build the connection to the main characters.
2) The basic plotting. It’s a bit too soapish - more than usual.
3) The big secret that made Asher leave Dixie for 3 long years was resolved within a day or two.
4) The twist in the end, which feels like a cheat. As usual, like in her other books, it seems like Abbi’s just Googled a disease and plucked it in. It’s all surface. It’s also feels like recycled from Harlow Manning’s character.
5) Asher had plenty of women during their time apart. I don’t like this in romance books (personal preference).
6) Asher is not an alpha and can’t make up his mind and then all of a sudden complete change. The heroine’s better off with the other brother.
7) Siblings falling for the same girl is a bit incestuous for me. And it seems to be the main thing of this series. Again, personal preference.
8) Bray’s character flaw feels recycled from Krit Corbin’s character.
9) The sex scenes are boring. I don't read Abbi for great literature. She used to write better sex scenes than what's in this book. Actually, the serial version had better ones.
10) I would have preferred reading a more detailed first sex scene between Asher and Dixie, not just in passing on a flashback.
11) This book seems to be in between new adult and young adult. The original novella is very adult as the sex is more descriptive and explicit.
12) The last part and the ending feel very rushed, typical in Abbi’s recent books.
13) For this price range, also for a pretty well known author, there’s no excuse for the typos and obvious editorial mistakes.
14) I also hated the random switch of point of view (in addition to the dual pov). At one point, Dixie's mom and dad had a pov, which basically served as mostly fillers.

Advice for Abbi for this series:
1) Character consistency. For example, Blair’s mom and Rush’s mom in the Falling Too Far Series were bestfriends, and then in the novella Kiro’s Emily, they’re cousins. If they are cousins, that makes Blair and Rush distant cousins. In Because of Law, Cage is described as half-Indian. In the rest of the series, there was no mention of it.
2) If you are going to use a disease or malady, please do more research about it.
3) Use a professional editor.
4) Use new beta readers.
5) Play with your strengths. Keep it simple.

Oh come the fuck on! I'm done. For real.

This was by far the worst book I've read this year. Who the fuck walks away from a "secret" that big and says nothing? Hello?!?
Oh, I'll go suffer in silence while I fuck my way through college. But my heart will always belong to another. Glad to see he was all broken about it. Rolling on my eyes here people. So happy his dick wasn't broken like his heart.

Steel was the only reason this book received a star.

The perfect trash I needed to get through my shift at work.

If you've read a single Abbi Glines book, you've read them all. So, if you've enjoyed something by her, congratulations are in order because you've just found your next favourite author. If not, well it's best you stead clear of her work.

Abbi Glines is a formulaic writer. She sticks to what she knows how to write and writes to her heart's content. This isn't a criticism, it's a fact and Boys South of the Mason Dixon is not an exception. In this romance you'll find five swoon worthy brothers, not one but TWO love triangles, and all the southern life you could want.

If you've enjoyed The Royals by Erin Watt, I would recommend Boys South of the Mason Dixon because it offers the same ridiculous addicting plot. Though it’s not as good as The Royals, but it is good enough to hold you over until January 2018 and Cracked Kingdom ;).

I'd give this 10 stars if I could but I am biased because Glines is one of my FAVORITE authors. This book was no different for me. Absolutely amazing. I cried so much both happy and sad tears. Glines also scared the crap out of me for Dixie! I don't think my heart has recovered yet. Just so amazing.

I need an Asher Sutton in my life as much as I need a Rush Finlay. Asher is such an amazing character. Dixie Monroe is a girl that everyone can relate to. She's the girl next door in love with a guy she thinks she has no chance with only to find out that he does in fact want her too. They end up falling madly in love only to be destroyed by a secret that turned out to be a horrible lie and cost them three years. Right when they get their second chance tragedy strikes, will they be able to get their happy ending?

It was absolutely amazing! Read this book!

Dixie has known the five sexy Sutton brothers forever but Asher is the one she's always loved. Until he breaks her heart for seemingly no reason. Now he's back in town after three years and even though her feelings haven't really ever left Dixie is now dating Asher's younger brother.

For some reason I haven't read an Abbi Glines book in a very long time. I think because I've changed and now like things a bit darker. However, this book made me miss her. The characters aren't super deep in her stories and I don't want that to sound bad. Her books just make for a quick and enjoyable experience. You kinda know what you're going to get and sometimes that's all you need.

First posted at Words Fueled by Love.

I've read a fair amount of books by Abbi Glines and they are usually a great fast read after I finish a heavy book or series. That was the situation I found myself in when I picked this one up to read. I purchased it during a one day $.99 sale. I figured, since it's short, that I could read it in a day, two max. Plus it's set in Alabama, my home state, and it's about good ole' country boys! Let me hear that southern accent! Cue the country music station.

The plot theme of this book isn't a new one to me. Recently I have read at least one series that deals with a similar issue, The Kennedy Boys by Siobhan Davis . This similarity doesn't bother me as it might some readers. Perhaps if I read these series back to back I might get tired of the "same thing" but there's always some detail that's different and of course the characters are slightly different, enough so that I'm still loving the angst and romance.

Five brothers: Asher the oldest, Bray and Brent the twins, Steel, and Dallas the youngest. When the story first begins our MC, Dixie, is only 13 years old...and she's got it baaaaaaad for the eldest Sutton brother, Asher, who is 16 at the start of the story. His reputation with being with older girls is well known and yet his protectiveness over her and kindness towards her makes her fall hard for him. The book goes back and forth between current events and events from 4 years ago. Eventually Dixie grows up and becomes a woman, albiet more slowly than her friends bodies seemed to transition. Asher is a guy after all and definitely takes notice...but by then three years older (he's 19 and she's 16) and having cared about her since she was a young kid, he finds she is the one girl that he's never felt he couldn't be himself around. Until one day he discovers a secret that changes everything and to spare her he leaves to go off to college far away so that they don't have to be around one another. Shattered hearts and broken dreams. Only now, when he returns home after a few years staying away (he's now 21 and she's 18 and both are in college), she's in a relationship with his brother Steel, and though it's wrong for some many reasons, he can't stop loving her. Only now, her heart is torn between what she once had with Asher and what she may have with his brother.

A fun tidbit from the story: the mention of the brothers eating tomato gravy and biscuits for one breakfast. I grew up with my family enjoying this same meal....everyone but me that is. I never did care for this southern tradition!

Quite a few typos throughout the story on the Kindle version I read. I will also say that at times I felt Dixie was a bit fickle in her feelings. First Asher is the only true love she ever had and then she wasn't sure she loved him enough. All in all, I got my happily-ever-after and the series is set to discover more about the brothers. I was a fan of all of the brothers. They can be hot-headed, but they were fiercely loyal to one another and to their mother. They had a ton of respect for their mom also. That's nice to see in stories. They definitely fall closer to the bad boy spectrum in how they are with a revolving door of girls, but they each seem to have hearts of gold. A few of the brothers have some demons it seems they are dealing with in their own way and I'm sure we'll learn more as the series goes on.

If you need a quick pick-me-up, angsty love story, give this a read!

Top 5 Favorite Quotes:
"When a beautiful girl cries, a boy never forgets why."

When your soul finds its match, there's no doubt in your heart.

He was protecting me. Asher cherished what he had. All the things my momma said I was supposed to expect from a guy and should never settle for any less.

...all I realized in the end was that once you'd found perfection, everything else paled in comparison. A puzzle piece would forever be missing from your soul.

"The future is a funny thing. It may lead you around the world and bring you rihgt back where you started."

4 Boys South of the Mason Dixon Stars

I am a fan of this author, I love her YA, NA stuff always have probably always will. That being said did I roll my eye a few times… HELL yes, did it stop me from reading the book .. HELL no.

I am not one for he said she said, or the games people play or all the immature stuff but I totally take it from this author every time and I enjoy the heck out of it. Who knows why I just love the characters and the brothers all now have a place in my heart

I want everyone to get an HEA. I am invested now. I am a sucker for a single momma raising boys, she was probably my favorite character in this book because she was totally like a southern momma is in my head.

Dixie and Asher were made for each other and it just took them longer to see it and that is ok because I think they both needed to do a little growing up to truly appreciate each other.

I quite liked the narration and how each brother had their own voice. I can’t wait for more books in this series to come out.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

This is the story of five cowboy brother's and their messy love lives. I have always liked the books by this author but this one was just not for me, I also had it on audiobook where there were several different narrators that just made it very confusing to listen to as the male narrators sounded similar. For me the characters very immature and the story line moved along at a snails pace, in fact it was pretty boring with no substance or excitement to it.

I remember reading this on Abbi’s website. It wasn’t an entire book yet, it was just a few chapters. I’m glad she decided to publish it and complete the story.

This was full of drama, and I must say that it was kind of overwhelming. It was literally in every page, and I must be crazy…

description

This book did have its faults, I’m not denying that.

Scarlett. She is a horrible person, and I don’t know how Abbi will redeem her character.
Bray. How could you do that to your own brother though?
There were a lot of typos.
I hope the next book is better. I’m still expecting lots of drama, but if we could just keep it to every few chapters, that would be great.

Sorry, but the subtitle and synopsis is strikingly similar to Asher (Boys South of the Mason Dixon #1) by Effy Vaughn. Five Sutton boys , one girl....almost identical??? And Abbi wrote this book? Or was it republished by Abbi? Completely confused.

Excellent

Honestly I have mixed feelings about this one. It's a typical Abbi Globes story. A deep hard love story. Normally there is just enough angst to keep things interesting but this one is all about the angst. The thing that troubles me is more personal. In my opinion this book seems to portray southerners as a bunch of incestuous hicks with nothing more driving them than their sex drive. Still..did I read the whole thing? Yes. Did I enjoy it ? Sign - yes. So the author did a good job of grabbing my attention and keeping it.
