Brand new flavors

First grade is a time for new adventures for Tsumugi—from cutting her hair, to meeting a new relative for the first time, and even trying her hand at cooking all by herself! Tsumugi seems eager to try new things on her own, but Kôhei can't help but feel anxious, wondering if Tsumugi is growing up too fast. And when Tsumugi asks her father if he is ever going to get remarried, how will he respond? Does this mean Tsumugi is ready to move on from her mother—and if so, what about Kôhei?

Summer break means lots of outings and playdates for the first grader, as well as a visit from a cousin and a homework assignment. But it's all about the character interaction.

Sweet and gentle, as always.

Sweetness and Lightning, Vol. 9 (My Kindle Review)

We see a few changes for Tsumugi as she gets a new shorter hairdo and how she might have her first crush. She also gets to meets her father’s wild older sister, her aunt, who also has a daughter that is the total opposite of her. Tsumugi also gets an opportunity to cook a special dish all by himself with some help and wonders if her father is lonely and wants to find someone to love. A (100%/Outstanding)

a lot of growing up themes in this volume regarding marriage and family, whether for Tsumugi and Kohei or with Kotori's parents. I love how Tsumugi deals with hurdles in school and at home with innocence and a bit of a grown up attitude!

Oh my gosh, the kids are freaking cute! I ship Tsumugi and Mikio so much; I don't care if they're in first grade.

Then there's the awkward exchange of seeing old friends you haven't talked to in a while. I can identify with Yuka because the same thing happened with me and my best friend. But that bit about 'true friends still being able to play like they used to even though it's been a while' is true.

I love this series. It's cute and adorable but it doesn't flinch from the hard issues like Kohei possibly getting remarried and how painful that might be.

This series has 12 volumes.

A lot of progress done here, Tsumugi gets her new look, new school, asking more mature questions. I enjoy the characters growing, school is near the end and college is in sight for someone like Kotori who has things to think about too, the topic of getting remarried was heavy, first time seeing Kohei getting somewhat mad. I still wish they didn’t have to cook every chapter to let these moments stick out more but at its core this is what the series is

This was lovely. I really enjoyed seeing Kôhei's sister come to visit and Tsumugi’s Canadian cousin Ellie experience Japan. I also loved how well it dealt with changing friendships and different periods of life, like changing schools and differnent friendship groups. Overall I really enjoyed it and instantly picked up the next volume.

Setelah kemarin abangnya sensei, sekarang kakak perempuannya yang ditunjukkan. Sampai dikira istri barunya sama Kotori ^^. XD

This was a cute volume, I love the help Kohei asks for in terms of both cooking and parenting advice, but I also love how he is parenting, and how with some things he lets Tsumugi decide. This was another cute volume in a cute series.

Loved the topics covered in this one! Tsumugi’s cousin is very cute and their friendship was fun to watch develop. Remarriage was brought up at one point so it was also heart wrenching to see that being discussed, especially since Tsumugi still doesn’t know so much about grief and married life.

SHES SUCH A LITTLE LADY WAHHHHHHHH
I’m gonna be honest I don’t really understand the deal with Kotori’s parents as in like her dad’s job and why he’s never around. I can’t remember if like I’ve forgotten from the first few volumes or if it was never really explained

Highlights for me in this one were: when her dad thinks Tsumagi likes older boys (he has such a great face … ch 40), the whole set of interactions between Tsumagi and her cousin Ellie, and her free research cooking project (how dedicated she was to doing ALL her own work).

Very cute as usual. As always, I wish there was more material about Kohei, like how he met his wife and what his day is usually like.

A cut story about a single father and his little daughter and how they find balance in their lives through the (food and) relationships they build around themselves.

Everyone is growing up. This is such a sweet slice of life and using food as the medium of everything. What is not to love?

The relationship between Father and daughter is so very sweet. Learning to live without Mom isn't easy for the two of them, but they try their best.

3.5✨

I didn't really know what to expect going into this manga. It's a cute story about a widower single father learning to cook for his daughter. The meals sound very tasty and I've definitely jotted down a couple recipes to try for myself.

It's a little one note but it's cute for what it is and enjoyable. I plan on watching the anime as well
