Over a year ago Selena Blake (from England) went to Greece to talk to her younger sister (Millie) who had gone to Greece with some of her girlfriends and she didn’t return back home to England. (The girlfriends told Selena and her Aunt Nora that Millie met a handsome barman, Kostas, and she didn’t want to leave him.) While Selena is in Greece she meets hero Alexis Constantinou in the bar of the hotel and mistakes him for Millie’s male friend. Alexis tells Selena that Kostas is his employee and that he (Alexis) owns the hotel. Alexis eventually tries to help Selena find her sister. Selena falls for Alexis and they become lovers. Alexis claims to love her, but one day his father shows up (while Alexis is away) with news that Alexis is already engaged to be married. His father tries to buy Selena off with money so she will leave Greece and Alexis. Selena refuses the money. Heartbroken, Selena goes back to England but eventually, over a year later, has to return to Greece because of her sister, and she meets Alexis again…

Selena and Alexis were a likable main couple. Most of their relatives were terrible! Selfish sister Millie, cold and strict Aunt Nora, Alexis’s dad who wanted to buy Selena off, etc…

This was a sweet reunited lovers romance with lovely locations, sexy love scenes… Another entertaining read by Sara Craven.

Orphaned heroine lives with an evil aunt and selfish younger sister.

Selfish younger sister vacations in Greece with school friends, but defiantly stays behind to marry the barman at their hotel.

Evil aunt sends heroine to return her underage sister to England. Heroine meets hero who is the owner of the hotel.

Hero helps her find the runaway couple. Then he sets the sisters up in his house for a cooking off period. Sister will learn to cook and clean and be a good Greek wife. Heroine will be hero’s pillow friend “guest.”

I think we know how this is going to turn out. Misunderstandings ensue. Hero’s father tries to buy off the heroine. H/h are each told lies about the other. Heroine finds out she’s pregnant, etc. . .

So there was a lot of angst, but it was diluted by the many, many flashbacks and the heroine drifting off into thought. I think a more straightforward narration would have maintained the emotional intensity.

The fostering of the H/h’s son was a nice touch and could have been milked for more angst. It seemed to be an afterthought while there was way too much about the selfish younger sister.

I really think hero should have shipped the sister and her barman off to another island. They are useless and will always have a hand out during their inevitable next crisis.

And that cover is horrifying! Yikes.

Sara Craven once again tortures a tiny h into near oblivion. She also populates this story with so many crappy people it boggles the mind, but, hey, it's Sara Craven.

Tiny h has two foul female relatives: the manipulative and arrogant bitch of an aunt and the manipulative and selfish bitch of a sister. Auntie wants the h to got to uni to get a teaching degree. That's nice. Not really. Auntie wants her to do it so the h can be a cheaply paid teacher at the aunt's snooty and expensive school. No trickle down economics here. Ronald Reagan would be very displeased. The h goes after her nightmare sister who at 17 has travelled to Greece and stayed there to shack up with a hunky Greek waiter. The aunt sends the h and tells her not to come back without the sister. Auntie is very in to what will people think.

The h gets to the small island and falls immediately for the H who owns the hotel. He's Kyrie Muckety Muck on the island and, gulp, the h becomes his...it's so hard to write...his pillow friend. I HATE THAT PHRASE! Is that really a phrase they use in Greece as this is not the first time I've read it? I am too scared to Google it.

The H seems to be head over heels with the h but is strangely silent at times. Dun dun duuuuuunnnnnn. The H's evil father is waiting for her, offers her $250,000 pounds to leave as he doesn't want his prospective daughter-in-law upset. Oops. The h leaves for England without the $250 big ones but takes something else with her. Shh, it's a shameful secret. Her sister stays behind as she is going to marry the waiter and help him open a taverna.

The H and h are kind of bland, and there's more tell than show about how much in love they are. Little sis makes me glad I never had a sister as she is so bad. She's not the worst HarleyLand sister, but she's no prize nor is her loser husband who was the one to contact the H's evil father in the first place.

Pillow friend...This is the first thing I saw when I googled. I don't think that's what SC had in mind.

Sara Craven really knows how to write an old school Harlequin Presents. Lena and Alexis had an affair during her trip to a Greek island but when Lena finds out Alexis is engaged to be married she leaves him. She returns back to England heartbroken and pregnant. She is depressed and when her child is born she gives it up for adoption until she recovers. When Alexis finds out about the birth of his son he brings her back to Greece and confronts her.

I loved this. I despise a heroine giving up her baby for adoption but my heart broke for Lena. She was in a really bad place and she planned on taking her son back as soon as she could. She missed him and loved him deeply so I wasn't annoyed by the adoption theme. Alexis was a smitten hero u could tell he was deeply in love with Lena. I loved the epilogue with their baby son and pregnant Lena. Heartwarming romance!!

I think Sara Craven loved making her characters SUFFER, especially the heroine, but I'm not complaining as the angst hurt so bad that it was good! *sniffs*

So what caused all of this angst? For starters, Selena and Alexis were saddled with some of the vilest, most skunktastic relatives to grace HelPlesslandia, and that's saying a lot because there are soooo many.

woman

That's not to say Alexis was completely blameless. His lack of full disclosure about his single status and lack of faith in Selena also made things worse. I would have liked to seen him grovel some, but can't complain too much because he suffered for his mistakes, and I believe he really did love Selena.

This romance was told in flashbacks but it worked. There's even a sweet, necessary epilogue and blatant passion and chemistry to balance out the previously mentioned angst.

P.S. Selena had been celibate during their two-year separation, but there's no mention if Alexis remained so. However, I like to think so as he was besotted.

TWO AND A HALF STARS
I'm a little disappointed with this story. I love an angsty story where the heroine of the story is wrongly judged and kicked out of the life of her hero, later to discover she's pregnant, but none of that really happened that way in this story. The heroine was tricked and kicked out, but there was no mention of her baby until the very ending of the story. What little angst there was felt rushed and crammed into the last 1/4 of this story. I wish I could have felt more of personal Selena's struggles after she was cast out by Alexis's uncle. So sad that the a-hole relatives didn't really get the paybacks they had coming either.

I wish more of the drama was on-page. It felt like we dwelled too long on the wrong stuff and not long enough of the good stuff. Still, it was mildly entertaining 🤷🏼‍♀️

its always a delight to read Sara craven books and this book was again very beautiful!I loved it,especially the heroine and the heartache she suffered on having to give up her son.I liked the hero as well.but my only complain was that I found the ending too abrupt unlike other Sara caraven books where there is proper closure between hero and heroine.what I didn't understand was why the hero took 2 years to contact the heroine and his son.I mean he knew that she didn't take the money so why didn't he go after her and confront her when he loved her soon much!maybe I just wanted him him to grovel a little bit for what he put the heroine through.their two years separation and hero not contacting her and letting her face the consequences alone even after knowing she was pregnant somehow spoilt this perfect romance for me. I wanted a little more explanation from the hero!

It was on my tbr, and I'm not planning to read it yet when I saw one of my friend's reviews here in Goodreads. (Hi, Sandra!) But I learned that it was part of a series and since I'm OC and like everything in order, I downloaded and read all the previous books in the series. So I was really excited to read this one, and I unconsciously set high expectations on it. Unfortunately, I found myself disappointed. I mean that it was just an okay read, and I didn’t love it. But still, I do not doubt Ms. Craven's writing ability. But, I wasn't feeling it and sadly found myself skimming through many of the book's first parts. I honestly found it bland, and I never felt connected or invested in the characters.

Wow this was angsty

I cried several times for some reason. Sara craven was one of my favorite authors back in the day and she still can tug at my heartstrings. What a terrible time this heroine had. A worthless sister, a evil father, mean aunt and an awful lover. he should have told her more about his life and where he wanted her to be in it. So many missed opportunities. He did love her. For two years he kept away from her, and I would think he would jump on it to face her for what he thought was a betrayal but no! It was awful. It never clarifies his celibacy either safety squad. I don't think he was but its never fleshed out. Only hid claim that his past and pillow friends were none of her business. I do think.the heroine suffered. I felt her pain. The ending was sweet but I must admit it made,me sad too.

In an attempt to save her sister from an unscrupulous Greek bartender, Selene, takes a trip to Greece where she meets Alexis, the owner of the hotel where her sister's barman works. Alexis offers his assistance in finding Selene's sister and her boyfriend.

Selene soon falls under the spell of the sexy Alexis and finds herself in love and making future plans with him. Then she learns that he is engaged to be married and she believes that he has sent his father to pay her off. She leaves Greece with a broken heart and unknowingly pregnant.

Years later, Selene is called back to Greece by her sister's husband who claims here sister is ill. In an attempt to mend her broken relationship with her sister, she decides to go. This leads to an confontation with Alexis, who is the person behind her return to the island. He has learned that she had his child and is viciously unkind to her. Selene, fed up with the unfair judgement, tells Alexis the truth about why she left the Greece and what happened after she left until her present time.

This was a sad read. Selene's decision was a heartbreaking one, and I applaud her for doing what was the best at the time. Alexis was a sweetheart, but there were monents when he was a real butt head. Selene's sister's husband was an asshole. I disliked him for his part in ruining her life and then having the audacity to ask her for help. Jerkoff. For the most part, this was an enjoyable, engaging read.

No sé, estoy re decepcionadaaaaa.

This seems like a very short read with not a whole lot to it. Told in flashback (which really wasn't necessary), Selena is sent by her aunt to convince Selena's 17 -year-old sister to come home from Greece. Unfortunately, Amelia has decided to marry a Greek hotel worker. In the process, Selena meets the hotel owner and billionaire Alexis and proceeds to fall in love with him.

The flashback format really didn't work for me. It would have made more sense in the flow of the story to tell it from start to finish. The conflict plot points were just thrown in- a wicked aunt, a selfish sister, a lazy worker, an angsty handsome Hero, evil father (hero's), and an innocent doormat.

Maybe I'm being too harsh, but I really didn't care for the story.

Normally I like a good harlequin to sink my teeth into but.....did not finish, it felt like a re-write or update of an old mills & boon manuscript. Why? The heroine wrote a letter on a blue airmail. Not email? text? Facebook DM? Please, these are supposedly young women in their twenties. Also I found the heroine too stupid and her sister too manipulative to get into the story.

MARCADA POR SUS CARICIAS (Spanish Version)

¡Madre mía, como analizar esto!

I rate this 2.5 stars.

Adult romance novels are a guilty pleasure of mine. I now that there are problems with some of them and that most contain love at first sight (which I usually hate), but there's just something about these novels that is so addicting.

I enjoy romance novels where the girl is hard to get throughout at least half of the novel and it seems more realistic instead of falling for the guy the minute you see him. Does that even happen in real life, is that even possible? Also, I've noticed that the couples in many of these romance novels, can barely handle being in the same room without wanting to touch each other. I've never been in love or lust, but I don't think that's how love and attraction works. It just seems stupid when people say or act like that they can't control themselves is a good excuse, it's not, it just seems stupid. But then again, these are romance novels, so of course they are going to have this kind of stuff in them, it's just hard to tolerate them sometimes, especially when they keep repeating that stuff over and over and over.

Overall, this book was ok, but also boring. There were times when I had to put the book down and read other books or just take a break from it. I don't really know how I feel about this story or even the characters, which is probably not a good thing.

And just because your a virgin, does not mean your innocent. Not being a virgin also doesn't mean that you know so much about life and stuff. If that were the case, then 15 year olds would be so wise. I hate it when people think this kind of stuff. I know that Selena's (the main character) annoying little sister said it and not Selena herself, but it still annoys me, since some people might actually believe that or end up believing it.

I'm not sure if I will write more of my thoughts on the book later or if I'll just leave it like this.

16th read of 2018

I just finished reading Amanda Bouchet's Hearts on Fire and I love it so much that I found it hard to get into the next book that was on my list to read.

So, as always, I put the new book down and picked up one of these quick, guilty pleasure reads for a reading palette cleanse.

Why did I do that? This was so bad. So bad. Have I mentioned this was bad? Very unlikable (and naively stupid) young lady who seems to sacrifice everything in her life for a very unlikable sister and aunt. Gives up a child to foster care because she doesn't want to ask the child's father (who just happens to be a billionaire) to help out. WTF? I need a lead character with a backbone, not one who is so willing to sacrifice herself and her child for people who are really undeserving. Boring. Silly. Illogical....and not at all modern. Where are the modern, strong women?

Reading palette cleansed - well and truly....

The story begins with the most boring introduction to h's personality and her current circumstances in life. She is an orphan who ended up in the care of a disinterested relative and has a beautiful but selfish sister who takes advantage of her doormat sister who has ambitions to be a martyr. With this inauspicious beginning I gave up early than continue reading it. Skipping ahead, the book didn't improve with accusations of abandoning a baby and reads like a soap opera that has throwaway dialogues intended to deliver shock rather than meaningful conversations that shows character development. A few more skipped chapters, it turns out the abandoned baby is being fostered by a loving couple who wish to adopt him but the h is intending to find a steady job to support her baby.

The book from what I have skimmed reads as a convoluted drivel that I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

SC very keen on Flashback structure which sometimes detracts from the, Idk, pace or something? Anyway, this h Selena is truly cursed with terrible relatives (a cold, cruel aunt-guardian and a selfish bitch sister whose failure to return from a holiday because she's met a Greek barman prompts the h's trip) and then the H, Alexis's household retainers and father also stick their miserable oar in. Add in a betrayal, a pregnancy (outside marriage) complete with postnatal breakdown and the child fostered away until she can sort herself out and frankly it's a wonder the poor girl is as 'together' as she is. Mark deducted for the H keeping secrets and not pursuing. Bonus points for h joyfully and guiltlessly going for the sex and for lovely 'this is for you' oral in a ruined temple. Just what a girl needs 😂

St Margaret provided a great review of the plot. In this story, with her Aunt and Sister, she had all of the useless and manipulative people in her life that the h needed! Once she left her shell and started to enjoy life, the H's father presented a bunch of lies that sent the h back to the UK with a broken heart...and pregnant. Thinking that the H was engaged and starting a family, she kept her pregnancy from him (why is this a common theme?).

After returning to the island to 'help' her worthless sister (again), she and the H finally meet and solve their misunderstandings. It seemed both were used and manipulated to meet the needs of their worthless family members. They did achieve their HEA...and on a Greek island...with the sun and the white sand!

Not one of Sara Craven's better stories. Selena is surrounded by unlikable characters. Her Aunt Nora is nasty and uses her, her sister Millie is self-centered, her sister's fiance is without a backbone of his own, Alexis's father and his lawyer are despicable. I'm also confused as to how Selena can afford all these plane flights back-and-forth between England and Greece without any kind of salary. And there are many parts of the story which are absolutely boring.

I should have stopped reading when I realized it was one POV! I can read single pov romances but they usually aren’t as entertaining. Knowing what’s going on for both leads is important! Also the story being told in flashbacks. At first I though, “cool, a different kind of HP.” But No. So much of story is wasted on her sister and H disappears and readers don’t know what he’s up to because of the single POV!!

SC isn’t a bad writer at all but the way this was told just didn’t feel like the Presents I’m used to. 🤦🏾‍♀️

I was annoyed by the characters in this book from main character's sister Millie to the evil aunt and the guy Millie shacks up with in Greece. (Pillow friend?) And the plot line of Selena having to put the baby in foster care then the foster parents telling Selena that the baby would be traumatized if they didn't get to adopt the baby?

Not one of my favorite Harlequin's.
