Dang, I wasn’t really a big fan of book one and wasn’t going to pick up book two but it was under political for a challenge I am doing and thought oh why not.

Well, it only gets hotter and more mysterious. But I loved how the story unfolded and we kind of had two love stories. We get all the characters we love from book one but with so much more.

From the Mr. President to the press secretary to Ex FBI agents, and so much more you’re thrown into the action and you can’t help but keep listening because each piece is just enough to make you want more.

Oh and we can’t forget the narration Therese Plummer KILLS it so freaking good.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Disclosure - I DNF this after reading 50% of the book

How disappointing! My book rut continues.

This middle book of this trilogy (Web of Lies) falters. The first book had an intriguing premise and set a good foundation to move the story forward; however, it failed to develop almost all the secondary characters and was inconsistent in the characterization of the characters we've already been introduced to. It focused on one of the elements being manipulated by the shadow group, the media, and that works to an extent. However, it failed in expanding, exploring, and explaining the complex motivations of what a group such as this is trying to achieve.

Sure, it wants to create chaos in order to further their ideology, but not all the people in the group can feel exactly the same. There has to be competing wants, and having that complexity would have made the story more believable and also given it more depth. It might get explained later in the book but I honestly wasn't interested enough to continue reading.

The Highlights

The writing is still strong (the storytelling not so much). I like the idea of putting the limelight on the media and how it's owned by major corporations with many parent companies. So what should be a service to the society becomes a service for the powerful who then decide what to showcase and what to hide. That's an interesting angle, that's very real in our society. But there's a lot of smoke screen.

The Lowlights

The romance, or should I say "the romance" because if I'm being honest, the romantic paring in this book is not very romantic. Like the first book, the central romantic pairing is underdeveloped. Tate and Birch are given the insta-love treatment, which I really and truly dislike. The chemistry is not there, and I found their scenes together cringe, I actually jumped forward so I could skip most of it.

There's also the additional issues that it's a highly problematic relationship because of the power imbalance in the relationship, which can technically apply to Lizzie and Dalton, though with them, they are more equals. There is a reason why there are rules in companies about dating your survordinates; it's unethical. The power imbalance is a huge issue, and sure Birch is a good guy, and yet for two supposedly smart people, they acted stupidly. I'm not saying that people who work together can't fall in love, that's silly. There are ways to go about it having these types of relationshps, one of which is being transparent about it so as to mitigate some of the problems with an imbalance of power. Long story short, I didn't like the romance, and I didn't think it was well executed.

Also, Birch has been widowed for 12 years, what is he feeling guilty about? Give me a break.

There's also this thing Tate does, which is ridiculous as in real life, if a press secretary did that, especially a female, she wouldn't have been able to keep her job. Especially for a supposedly weak president like Birch.

Then we have the issue of women being catty towards each other. This trope has never been my cup of tea. I get Val being reticent with the new girl, keeping her distance until they get to know each other, but her continued dislike of her was unreasonable at best and catty/ mean girl at worst. It seemed silly for both Lizzie and Val to hate on Tate because she wasn't a physical fighter/ law enforcement or military. It's not a good look.

And Lizzie telling the president that she's in-charge and making the final decision. Face-palm! And of course, it's all for nothing because she just looked like an ass and also a hypocrite for thinking she can be neutral with Dalton when in the same chapter she admits she's in love with him.

Then we have issues with pacing and character motivations, inconsistencies in characterizations, plot holes, etc.

I'll stop here. I had a lot of issues with the books and the characters.

Overall

I can't recommend this book, it wasn't good and there are too many issues that bothered me that I wasn't willing to gloss over. It wasn't good enough to allow me to do that. I won't be reading book three.

Wow what another great story in this series. Love it. Fantastic Narration too (audible review)

So full of action, mystery, intrigue and a bit of romance thrown in.

This is such a great series so far, I love that Kathleen Brooks is writing stories like this. Fast paced, great characters, super dialogue and very entertaining and exciting.

The story line and plot is great. All kinds of characters, the president, FBI, DEA, Military, Hackers and so much more. This is the second book of a to be continued book and is also left in somewhat of a cliffhanger but it was still so good and the cliffhanger wasn't too bad. I will totally be looking forward to the next book in October. I hope they keep the same narrator!

As for the narrator, she is great. She does the male voices very well, everyone gets their own distinct voice and she reads with emotion. She has a very nice reading voice too!

This 3 part thriller starts off slow and builds its way up to an explosive and epic conclusion that features a shadow group assembled by the President to take down a group calling themselves Mollia Domini who want to control the world via assassins, the media and high ranking political figures. The ragtag group the president gathers are ex FBI, ex DEA and Air Force PJs along with a young computer hacker. Along the way they pick up other to help in the crusade to bring down the evil that is trying to destroy the world for their own nefarious purposes.

Part 2 – Introduces us to Tate Carlisle. She was another victim of the Mollia Domini and lost her job as an investigative journalist when she looked into the wrong person. The president sees her as an asset to both the White House and his shadow group and hires her to be the new Press Secretary. Tate's the one that figures out Mollia Domini is using the media to fuel the fire of hatred and chaos. The president, who is a widower, finds himself attracted to Tate and we get what was is probably a pretty good example of how the media would react in real life (complete tearing apart of Tate's life and mean and ugly things said about her). Tate may not be physically as tough and Lizzy and Valeria but she proves she is strong in other ways and an essential part of the shadow team.

Lizzy and team keep unraveling more threads that lead them to more patsy's working for Mollia in their quest to find and bring down the leader. More people are brought into the group to help in their fight..

By the end of this book you know the final showdown is coming and its going to be epic..

I honestly don't know why I read on. It might have to do with the fact that I am trapped in a cabin, with heavy snowfall and am seeking to cure my boredom. This is all i have. And they are free. There's that.

I was frequently irritated when reading book one, and this one was no different.
My main frustration is the inconsistency of character actions and behaviors. Except for Dalton. He is so undeveloped that its like he doesn't exist. And not existing is very consistent. Go him! Lizzie exhibits many behavioral traits that a psychopath would. One second she's charming, the next, screaming, the next, shooting someone in the head, the next, wearing the dead guy's underwear that she bought him while making jokes about it. And that's not even delving into her narcissistic mindset. Totes Psycho!

President Birch was so dumb. If we didn't have access his mind he would have been way less annoying/creepy. The insta-love was SO odd for a man in his situation. Do he and Tate not understand priorities/safety concerns?! Wasn't the main reason she was brought in to serve as a direct line to the group? Her free movements and all that? Yeah ok, lets put pda before the well being of the world's citizens, because that is the priority. Bleh. Like seriously. That man is the worst, and should not be president.

If they had taken the romance out it would have been a 3 star for me. It gave me the creeps and made me hate stupid people. Unfortunately, the power is still out and I have book three downloaded. So book three, please be better.

Wow! This book was a real page turner. Lots of plot twists and turns, but it made it more interesting. I thought I might get some characters confused but as usual Ms Brooks did a great job of keeping things straight for me.

I can't wait for book 3.

Pretty riveting. Hopefully this does not mirror real life, although life can be stranger than fiction. I’m going to get the next book just to see where this goes. $4.99 well spent.

I liked this one a bit better than the first.

This one centers on the newest member of the team, Tate, the ex-reporter who becomes the WH press secretary and love interest to the new (hot young) President.

The central mystery in this one is the take down of "the media" and social media influencers who are all part of the shadow conspiracy group and who are turning public opinion against the President. Tate hatches a plan that comes off rather nicely in helping neutralize that area of the conspiracy.

Like the last book this one was entertaining. Also like the last one, this book the central conspiracy makes no real sense. We still don't know what the group wants and how the hell they have managed to infiltrate all areas of American society and foreign governments. So a lot of handwaving of plot holes must be done.

Also "media" and "the public" are treated as simplistically monolithic. There is literally no attempt to present any group as dissenters or disbelievers except for one or two who are satellites to the inner circle. But, whatever.

I actually really liked Tate. And I thought she and Birch's romance felt more interesting that Dalton and Lizzie's from the first book.

Lizzie still continues to be a bit of a problematic character for me. I simply don't find her an authentic bad-ass. The writing for her feels transparent like the the author is trying really hard to convince me she is a bad-ass. Instead she comes off irritating more than anything.

Also she and Valeria (who I just find irrationally bitchy) lose a lot of points for just being assholes toward Tate for no other reason than Tate is pretty and reporter? I hate it when women hate on other women for no other reason than their appearance. Also they immediately characterize her as useless because she isn't military or DEA? Come on. If you are the supposed leader of a covert ops team that has to take down a shadow conspiracy that infests all areas of society, why is it that you don't understand not all of your assets have to be ass kickers? A good team has members that bring in all different types of skill sets. This is why I find the writing for Lizzie especially kinda bad.

Outside of that, I do think this author has a nice touch with humor. The book has great little pockets of it that surprise me into laughter sometimes. And I still love Alex.

Another good book! I love that my dude is back! lol. I also love how they are tearing apart the media, social media and the fake news. There was one line that really stood out and it affects a lot of what goes on today. The president addressing cyber bullying. No one should ever be picked on, persecuted or harrassed for being who they are. There are way too many haters in this world and it's really sad that the only way they can feel good about themselves is ruining someone else's lives. Pretty sad. I'm going onto the next book and I can't wait to see what happens and how the team brings the bad guys down for good!

OK, I am not going to complain that I am going to have to wait for the next book in the series to come out. No matter what, I love this series and Kathleen Brooks as the author. I will just have to wait and speculate. I want to know if the series will have a wedding or two in the future.

This book kept me captivated for the entire story. I love the group, Lizzy and Dalton, The president, Birch and Tate. I loved getting know Birch as a person and not just a president. I enjoyed how his relationship developed with Tate. I want to know how their date went. I hope we get to see some of that develop in the next book.

Alex is so cute, I loved how he was kept so busy this story and how he dressed up to emulate Flint when he was helping out Tate, I laughed a little about how he portrayed himself. I was sad that Val disappeared, but I look forward to her story and what has developed. This book defiantly kept my heart racing almost the entire time. I feel like I am speed typing because I have not come down from the adrenaline rush from reading the book.

I like that we get a peak of a happy ever after but I might be greedy and want a little more, so I am hoping for one in the next book, but if Val the main character her attitude will cause the the book to be more actioned packed than the previous two books in the series.
Thank you for such a great read. It is really hard to do my day job when I get to read books like this. Thank goodness I had a three-day weekend to read this book.

Wow! The first book introduced all the players, well, most of them, and it showed what kick-ass agents of the President Lizzy and Dalton were but this book got down to the nitty-gritty. All the bad guys they rounded up, or killed, though still not the "spider" yet. Everyone was just amazing.

And then there was the love story that came about, not only between Lizzy and Dalton, but between Tate, the press secretary, that went from being an airhead beauty queen to being a real asset to the team, and bachelor President Birch Stratton. It was there but neither love story overpowered the true story.

There were a couple of real surprises, that’s for sure. People you thought were bad that turned out OK and people you just knew were good that turned out to be just the opposite.

This was as great as the first one and I hope to hell we don’t have to wait a year for the next book since this was such a BIG cliffhanger. (Just checked and the next book will be out in October. UGH!)

I’m not going to fill this one with all kinds of spoilers like I did the first one. I can only encourage you to read them if you’re looking for a romantic suspense.

There was foreplay, without sexual tension, then fade-to-black. It kind of all fit together just fine. And the F-bomb was used 19 times.

As to the narration: Therese Plummer is almost perfect. Needs to lower her voice a little more for the men but her emotions are absolutely awesome.

Loved it

Ok, I should have read or listened to the first book again before starting this one to refresh my memory of the storyline and characters, but I didn't..and you know what..I didn't need to. This books was awesome from beginning to end.

Litzy and her band of warriors are hot on the trail of a sinister group trying to play puppeteer with world. They are finally staring to see the connection between the politics, entertainment, media, and world leaders and are positioning to bring the whole organization down.

Tate and the President have found a mutual attraction and love that they have no problem expressing..if only their fearless leader can follow suit. Litzy and Dalton are practically living together, but neither one will admit how much they love one another.

We are ringing more and more people into the group and our financial backer is starting to look a bit squirrelly..finally, Valeria has found a thread that she's decided to follow up all by herself. Hopefully, one of the new members of the team can get her out of the mess she's found herself in.

Loved the story, characters, and how Tate found her own strength in the midst of her friends. Having a single President is tricky and watching President Stratton claim his woman, public be damned, was romantic to see.

Of course, we cannot wait until the next story..tick tick, tick tock

The story continues....

The web of lies is starting to pick up pace and strings are snapping. Another element is brought to light when Tate, the newest member finds there are hidden forces that control the media and what is reported to the people.

Fast paced and steamy. The dreamy President Birch Stratton and Tate Carlisle fall in love in a media storm set to ruin both their reputations. Lizzy and Dalton are realizing their connection is more than just a hookup.... just another layer of yum to the mix. All the while, Valeria goes rogue and is immersing herself in to a lead she finds. It is feeling as if things are starting to fall into place in this search for the true puppet master seen as the spider that has made these web of lies.

Definitely a good story. Fast paced and smart. I do feel that the ending of this installment felt a little choppy, but still holds a cliffhanger of sorts to prime you to read the next book in the series. Definitely recommended to be read in succession because as the story grows..... so does the list of characters. Definitely recommended to read. 4-1/2 stars.

If I could give 6,7,or even 12 stars......I would. If there was only one word to describe not only this book, series and yes this author’s writing.....it would be WOW!!!!! I will confess I had finished reading the last book out of the Bluegrass series and wanted to read another book. I liked this authors writing, so I started “Web” series. Oh my goodness. I don’t often leave reviews, but this was a must. This is a suspence book with of course mystery, romance and a little fun on the side. In this story, our country is divided, everyone hates the President, some people aren’t supporting the military, Hollywood thinks they are more important than what they are.....sound familiar? This author has taken a lot of what is happening in our country (in a very broad sense of the word), and twists a suspenseful tale. At the same time, at the the end of the day, there is always hope for our country! Kathleen Brooks has now shot up to my favorite author to read!!!! If you haven’t read any of her books, it is highly recommended!

Tate used to be a reporter, but now she the White House Press Secretary, working with a secret group put together by the President of the United States. This group is working on a special task to find corruption in the White House. The President has just been sworn in but doesn't know who he can trust or who's out to get him. This story is full of suspense, every conversation could possibly lead to the death of someone, only leaving more questions to be answered. President Birch is a single man and can't stop thinking about Tate. They both try to hide their growing feelings for each other, but are failing at it. OMG, there are soo many characters to talk about, my suggestion is to read you will love it.... Valeria where are you?

Tate Carlisle has more tricks up her sleeve than anyone on the President's Team was prepared for... except maybe the president himself. As she follows threads to uncover the people behind Mollia Domini, the web grows larger and she finds that the media is playing a bigger role than they realized.
Birch Straton next expected his eclectic little team to find a worldwide domination scheme when they began their investigation, and up until this point he's taken every hit the media has thrown his was. But enough is enough. With Valeria gone, more members added to their secret team and unexpected feelings for his new Press Secretary, Birch is done paying passive president and is ready to level the threats being directed at his country.

Love is blooming again, but the stakes aren't life and death this time. They have the power to negatively effect President Straton's vie for the presidency in the next election. Those are Tate's top concerns, but Birch is ready to go all in with his newly disgraced Press Secretary.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!!
Rogue Lies is a gripping, politically charged romance that keeps you on edge from start to finish. Tate Carlisle’s new job as White House Press Secretary already comes with intense pressure, but when she starts unraveling a conspiracy with global implications, she finds herself in the fight of her life. And making things even more complicated? Her growing attraction to her boss—the President of the United States.
Tate is an incredibly dynamic heroine, balancing intelligence, wit, and fierce determination. The forbidden romance between her and the President is sizzling and filled with tension, making every stolen moment feel electric. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and Brooks masterfully blends danger, politics, and passion into an unputdownable read.
With high-stakes action, emotional depth, and a powerful romance, Rogue Lies is one of the strongest books in the series. If you love political thrillers with a romantic twist, this one is a must-read!

Once again, Kathleen Brooks has given us another wild ride in “Rogue Lies.” This book focuses primarily on Tate and the President although the rest of the crew makes appearances, too. Tate, the seemingly “weakest link,” proves her strength lies with words, not necessarily with fists or weapons. She epitomizes grace under pressure. In the end, not only does she take major chunks out of the enemy, she also ends up with the guy. And what a guy! In this book, Birch Stratton finally starts coming into his own. He realizes that while he might be the president, he’s also a man, one who has been alone too long. In Tate, he not only has a partner in the fight against evil, but a woman who feeds his soul. Ms. Brooks ties up this part of the story arc nicely but leaves many loose ends. Who is really one of the good guys, who is one of the bad? Many questions still need to be answered. I’m looking forward to the next installment.

Drama, romance, intrigue

Rogue lies is by far one of Kathleen Brooks best pieces yet! Tate Carlisle, newly hired press secretary for the president of the United States finds herself thrust into the middle of a masterful plot to undermine and ruin her new boss. He is the president of the United States, the most powerful man on earth, and yet she sees more than that, all she can see is the man in front of her. Her past creeps up on them, making their already difficult situation seem even more so.

This book is more than just words on a page, Brooks thru her imagery and talent pulls the reader so far in it feels like they are walking the halls of the white house, sitting in the Roosevelt room, and looking out over Pennsylvania avenue.

GOAL, HOMERUN, SCORE, HOLE IN ONE!!!! SHE'S DONE IT AGAIN !!!!!

Enjoyable political intrigue/romance. The first volume is available from Audible's Romance package, so it's free. I bought the other two through whisper-sync deals. Not worth using full credits, but enjoyable and worth the time.

Each volume focuses on one of the women in the secret elite group helping the new president take down an evil organization.

The political intrigue is actually the better part of the series -- I'd give the romances 1-2 stars. The author mentions the couples almost as an aside, like "oops, I need to add romance so I'll talk a little bit more about them getting closer." And poof! They're in love already. None of the love stories are particularly believable -- if you are having a couple fall in love that quickly then you need to concentrate more on their stories. And by the end it sort of came across as a cheap teen drama where everyone pairs off...

This second installment of this series exceeds expectations. I liked the first but admittedly kept looking for the snarky Southern characters that Brooks is expert at writing. They are still not there. But, the intrigue of the story and camaraderie of the group has grown in leaps and bounds. I love the story of Tate and Birch. She is so strong and allows herself to be vulnerable. Birch is not afraid to express his feelings and protects when needed, although it could cost him his career. The new additions to the group show purpose, not added just for romance value. I look forward to the next book and may re-read the first to make sure I didn't miss something.

Suspense and Roma ce

Another winner from Kathleen Brooks. This is book 2 of a 3 book series. The "crew" continues to track those responsible for undermining the President of the USA. They have gotten closer and have discovered a lot about each other and their feelings. Lizzy and Dalton are still denying that their feelings for each other are more then they care to admit to themselves or each other! Birch and Tate are taking the leap...Will it work out or will everything get in the way. Bring on the conclusion

Through Fiction Comes Realism

Many fictional stories are based on true facts and Rogue Lies is such a story! Today we are living in a society that believes in lies and half truths developed through the media! We have bred hate and bigotry due to a media that is being controlled by the rich and powerful. This series has thus far shown how we are being manipulated today! Who ever thought a little romance series would point out how much we are like sheep! THIS IS A MUST READ!!!

Another Awesome Book for Ms. Brooks

This one has it all - intrigue, romance and lots of lies. This series just gets better and better with each book.
I seem to fall in love with each character in her stories but I think Birch and Tate are the perfect fit for this one.
I am so looking forward to Shattered Lies for so much more intrigue.
I highly recommend this series to anyone who appreciates love and lots of mystery.

This is the second book in the Web Of Lies series and it's great !

Things are really coming to light in this installment. It's filled with action, intrigue, suspense, murder and a bit of romance.

The group in really coming together as a team and they are connecting more and more of the dots and exposing lie after lie.

Who can they trust, what is the truth, what is the end game, I can't wait to find out. Anxiously waiting for the next book, Shattered Lies.

And it keeps getting better.
This one was devoured in one sitting. The plot just gets thicker and more intriguing the more that's revealed.
More focused on Tate and Birch's hot chemistry.
Lizzy and Dalton don't let you down.
Humphrey just makes you laugh out loud.
Can't wait for Valeria's story
Would be great to see something on Sebastian, Brock and Maybe a little something for Crew.
All in all a fantastic read. Keep up the great work.

Overall Amanda score: A
This book was better to read than the first in this series, I am not going to lie. I really did enjoy this part of the series. I enjoyed the relationship that grows between Tate and Birch. I think that the plot gets better as well as all the different characters. We finally learn more about the previous characters dumped on us in book number 1. I do think that Kathleen once again delivers a great story. Would I recommend this book? Yes. Would I recommend this series? Yes. Do I love all of Kathleen's books so far?? Absolutely.
