Jaylior #2

A Flare of Power

Rate this book
How would you feel if you were gifted to wield nature’s greatest power?

Ever since Haylie found out she was a Natural—one of the rarest human beings in existence—she was determined to find out about her power. The problem? She had no clue where to start. What made things worse was that Dylan, the man who'd dared her to show up in his periphery, was now her trainer and eager to push her to her limits.

Dylan was on a mission to avoid Haylie. She was the reason his brother was buried six feet under after all. Still, as long as they were in the dark about her ability, she was a ticking time bomb. And of course, he was the only one who could defuse it. In the end, no one could have guessed what kind of power she hid behind those haunting eyes of hers.
He was just glad they still had a year or two left before her Awakening.
Little did he know that time was quickly running out...

Everything about me was always different or unique or special, or whatever the others called it. Couldn't I be normal, for once? --Haylie, a Natural

5 stars!

I really, really, REALLY enjoyed this sequel!! This series is unique in its world-building and 'rules' and terminology and super badass characters. FLARE OF POWER picks up pretty much where FLARE OF HOPE left off, with Haylie struggling to understand her newfound abilities while still dealing with the fallout and guilt of Shawna and Ricky's deaths. She is thrust into this entirely foreign and unwelcome situation and doesn't know how to navigate the rules now governing her life, while Dylan still seems bent on punishing her for Ricky's death.

However, we learn so much more about Dylan and his past and what makes him tick in this novel, and I just fell in love with him even more. He is such a tortured and broken-down character, with his walls built up so high as to seem impenetrable. But his relationship/dynamic with Haylie is such a giant piece of slow-burning chocolate cake that I absolutely loved savoring. She is strong and independent and not afraid of standing up to him, and it takes him a while to realize that and admit his feelings. The new characters we meet in FoP also added new obstacles, and I am definitely a suspicious Susan about certain people so we'll see if everyone is who they pretend to be.

Overall, I definitely recommend this book and could not put it down! Love this series and cannot wait to continue. I was a little confused because I read the blurb for FLARE OF SORROW before starting this one, and it sounded as if Haylie got kidnapped?? She doesn't (so I don't consider this a spoiler), but I was expecting it and was ultimately a little confused....and disappointed when she wasn't. I don't wish her harm; I just like the promise of angst and reunion. Anyway, READ THIS SERIES!

Dylan's back tattoo (I can't stop imagining this)....

This author just keeps getting better and better!! I have read all of her work, and believe me if you haven't then you really need to!!
This is the second book in this series, and well WOW !! The characters continue to grow and develop and storyline flows so beautifully, before you know it you will be screaming at your device, something along the lines of....'NOOOOOO WHERE IS IT?? DID YOU EAT IT??' True story...not proud ...lol
I am dying for book 3!! Please dont make us wait long!!!

I got the darkness in this the second book in the series but nothing blinding,no total blackness,no knockout where is the lights kind of reaction though Haylie the heroine is still dealing with some heavy guilt from past experiences and Dylan her nemesis is still beating around her neck like an albatross of doom. The book is still a tentative 4 stars.

A good second book

These books are so addictive. Although the first was far from a romantic novel the second seems to focus on Dylan and Haylies feelings for each other and overcoming their past. Also Haylie is learning about her powers of what she. Is capable of. Chris seems to have settled for someone else. Cassie, what is she up too. I can't wait for the next one to download. Sexual content and bad language. Highly recommended

Sorry I just can’t get into this. The main reason is Dylan. I just don’t like him. Not even a little. I find myself skipping through his chapters just because I can’t stand reading his thoughts they are so shallow and at times insulting. Can’t do this series if the “hero” acts and thinks like a zero.

>Book Review – A Flare of Power
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 2nd in the Jaylior series and ends with a cliffhanger. This part of the story brings in the BFF, Lauren. She has no special skills, but seemed super aware of the specialness of Haylie. Haylie finds her power in this book and a lot of the scenes involve her and Dylan trying to learn how to control them.
>Dylan and Haylie circle around each other, finally recognizing their attraction. A threat from within their compound is discovered, along with the mean ex, Cassie, acting totally different. I was frustrated with Dylan and his inability to just go for it with Haylie. This story is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. The characters really stand out and the story is getting fun.

I didn't think matching the greatness of book 1 was possible, but Elodie has done it and beyond! I loved the growth all the characters had, especially Dylan and Haylie. They are getting closer to figuring each other out and I love the slow burn of their relationship. Their attraction is described so well, it's almost tangible.

My favorite scene would have to be when Haylie first is practicing with her power and gets trapped on Dylan. I giggled quite a bit.

I'm definitely rooting for this couple, along with the author. Can't wait for the next two books! I would definitely recommend this series and author! Original and exciting!

I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.

5 stars for A Flare of Power by Elodie Colt. This is book two in the Jaylior Series. “Don’t fight her. Fight for her.” Dylan is fighting his attraction to Haylie. Haylie knows she is a natural, a rare human. Everything about Haylie and her situation breaks my heart. I want to just hug her and fix everything for her. She has been through a lot. Dylan is avoiding Haylie, he blames her. I want these two to work. I want there to be more for both of them. I can’t wait to see what is to come for all of these characters.

Slow burn in the best way

I discovered throughout series by accident and am so glad I did, even if it did leave me with a love hate relationship of the cliffhanger ending. I loved the unique twist on a world of supernatural and all the relationships and character building that have gone into the series. I downloaded the book the same day it was released and finished then too...kind of wishing I'd dragged it out a bit now. Can't wait for the next one!

I am not disappointed in the least bit. This book topped the first one. Its hard to pull off a second book that is better than the first, and this author has done it. I picked up book two immediately after I finished the first one in the series. I just had to know what happened. It kept me completely intrigued and I am officially invested in the outcome of Haylie and Dylan. I can't wait to find out more! If you haven't read this series yet, what are you waiting for!?

I enjoyed this one even more than the first! The author puts a lot of emotion into her characters and you can really feel how they do. I will say I'm not to sure how I feel about the main pairing. I don't usually struggle with that but for some reason they don't seem like a good fit to me. They are almost too different in their personalities and it makes it difficult for me to ship them.

Exciting

4 stars because it always keeps my interest. Dylan is a bad boy wanting to be good for her. She's a Natural and doesn't want to be used for the rush. Can they make it work? Off to the next book to find out.

Exciting!

Enjoyed this series. It has lots of action and slow burn romance. I wanted to finish the whole series in one sitting. I loved the character development of the heroes and the supporting characters.

So good!

Like in book 1 you feel all of the characters emotions. Sometimes you get teary eyed and sometimes you laugh, you almost vision what's going on. There's a good balance while you get pulled in.

Yet another awesome book in this Jaylior Series! Book 2 was just as exciting as the first. Everything is starting to get way more intense, and Elodie knows just how to keep you at the edge of your seat!! This book has a cliffhanger ending, but not to worry, the rest of the series is out!

3.5 stars. For me, this series feels more YA/NA than what I'm usually into. The whole plot of the series 3 books in is around a battle between 2 groups of superhumans trying to control/possess a "Natural" - a rare type of superhuman with Jaylior colored eyes.

I have read the first and second book but it’s just too frustrating. It’s very slow and after two books not a lot has happened. They are not awful books I just can’t be bothered to invest anymore of my time.

A Flare of Power, the second book in the Jaylior series, is an ebook I downloaded from Kindle Unlimited. The storyline continues with fast pacing and plenty of relationship development between all the characters. There are times I feel Dylan is a bit over the top, but it works well with the story.

Great Book

Why Amazon insist on 20 words for a review via kindle, I don't know. Especially when I just want to say that I really enjoyed this book.
