Hope escaped the Underworld with her life, but her memories are as blank as the Book of the Fates she brought back. Still determined to break the curse, she and Xan take an offering to the Olympian temple to solicit the goddess Artemis for aid. But the petition has disastrous results, and now the gods are hunting her.
Athan sacrificed everything for Hope, but she’s leaving him behind to travel with Xan to Mount Olympus. But the closer they get, the more Athan’s mortality becomes a liability. Forced to seek refuge in mists and darkness, Athan tangles with deities that weave the very threads of fate. But these goddesses also wield the immortal blades that lay ruin to destinies.
With everyone she loves damaged or destroyed by the blood of Olympus, Hope must face the power of the past to change the fate of the future…
Fates and Furies is the fourth and final book in The Sphinx series.
RAYE WAGNER is the USA Today Bestselling author of young adult fantasy books, but she hates writing bios. She’d much rather tell you a story. She’s partial to fantasy, with dragons or magic or something so she can lie and not feel guilty. She also has an obsession with sweets (all the bakery goodies), nerf wars, wigs, and occasionally tutus.
When she isn’t writing, shenanigating (I’m sure that’s a word), or lying, Raye is with her family . . . preferably at the beach.

It was a good conclusion, but I felt as if the action and the romance of this book wasn't as well balanced as the rest of the series. The first 200 pages were slow, without much happening, but the last 200 pages were full of crying, of action and of a lot of things that were happening way too quickly. I still enjoyed it very much though.
Fates and Furies, the fourth and final book concluding Raye Wagner's superb mythology based, YA, urban fantasy, Sphinx series, is one of the best YA level adventure fantasy books I have read this year.
Raye's beautiful writing, a plot full of twists and turns at every corner, and conflicts after conflicts thrown upon her young heroes, all this contribute to a whopping 4.5 Bohostars.
Hope, the Sphinx, suffers from Apollo's curse. She can't marry a mortal (or anybody in fact) and has the only choice of becoming the Greek God's consort, mate whatever the sick psycho God would name that relationship. The curse runs for generations through all the females in the bloodline. All of them reject Apollo, resulting in the loss of their human or demigod husbands.
Hope wants to break the curse. She falls for Athan, a demigod, and son of Hermes, befriends Xan, the son of fierce and battle-lusty Ares, a Goddess of the night, and her children, the powerful Furies.
Our beloved Sphinx and her allies wreck havoc in the Olympus and win against the greedy and immoral Gods with a great loss from all sides. The book ends on a very positive note, a little unexpectedly so, making me a very happy fan. Thank you for the pleasant surprise, Raye, I almost cried my eyes off when I though we lost you-know-who for good.
The dual POV works very well in this book. We see the main events unfold through Hope's eyes while Athan gives us inside information on the side characters.
The book has a great pace. The action is never-ending and probably the fastest read in the series. Fates and Furies offer the maximum plot complexity and character growth in the series. I have noticed an overall maturity growing with each book in this YA series.
Raye is a descriptive writer who doesn't skimp on the details for the sake of plot complexity. Each book focuses on a different setting. Previously confined within a conservatory, Raye moves her characters through the Underworld into the Olympus mountains and ultimately rewards us with a lavishly terrifying yet luxurious world building. The underworld gave me the creeps while Olympus left me with some derisive awe.
A true mythical adventure in an urban set-up, Fates and Furies is the perfect ending to a thoroughly enjoyable series.
What an amazing way to end this series. I am speechless with this book in a good way. It was a roller coaster of emotions. The strength and bravery of Hope is amazing. She is one good role model and she never gives up. Her support system of Xan and Athan is also amazing. The love she has for both of them and the love they return to her is exactly how it should be; so much like family. Always sticking together. I love seeing the other gods and goddesses in this book and the games they played. It was so interesting to see how this would all work out. Raye does an amazing job pulling everything together and answering every question. The Fates and Furies are goddesses you want on your side. “Fates and Furies” by Raye Wagner is outstanding and I recommend it to you all. Great ending to Hope’s journey of breaking her curse.
Thank you to Raye Wagner and Lela Grayce for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for review! All opinions are my own.
"The end of one adventure is only the beginning of another..."
Fates and Furies is the final book in the Sphinx series by Raye Wagner and what a finale it is! This book is nothing short of fantastic and is sure to please all fans of the series with what I feel is one of the most satisfying series endings I've ever read.
Plot: Hope may have escaped from the Underworld but her memories are still completely blank- just like the Book of Fates she brought back with her. Still determined the break the curse and with Xan by her side, the two make an offering to Artemis that ends in flames. Now, the gods of Olympus are hunting her. Nowhere and no one is safe, especially newly mortal Athan. With Athan's mortality becoming more of a liability, Hope has to leave him behind in order to travel to Olympus. But hidden in the darkness, Athan meets the goddesses that weave the threads of fate and works to aid Hope however he can. With everything riding on Hope's shoulders, she alone must confront the past in order to save the future.
With this being the final book in the Sphinx series, I knew going into it that there was going to be a lot of closure within these pages. Everything from Hope's love interest, her curse, the corruption of the gods on Olympus, and even the Book of Fates is wrapped up nicely with a beautiful bow. I was almost expecting a cliffhanger or an open ended sentence that leaves the reader guessing, but thankfully, that didn't happen. What we did get is this message: "The end of one adventure is only the beginning of another..." leading me to believe that Raye Wagner isn't done with this world just yet. Hope's story may be finished, but there are always others to be told! There's so much that happens in the pages that make up Fates and Furies, but it's easily the best book in the series. Even with the changes in point of view from Hope to Athan, you still get a very clean, well-flowing story that comes together in an ending that is sure to give you thoughts of happily ever after and all of that happy ending jazz. Seriously, I had tears in my eyes from how fantastic it all was!
Characters: One thing I wanted to point out in this review is Hope's growth as a character from Cursed by the Gods to Fates and Furies. At first, she's so focused on getting free from her curse so that she's free to love who she wants without fear of them dying due to Apollo's jealously. But she evolves to wanting to be free to choose, and eventually works towards re-balancing the power that the gods and goddesses of Olympus have been abusing for so long. I just really appreciated how her vision grew from only thinking about herself to being concerned with how the gods were basically taking advantage of the humans. It showed a lot of growth in her as a character and it really made me appreciate her a lot more by the end of this book.
In general, the growth of all the characters is something that makes this series such a fantastic read. One of the most enjoyable parts of the series is all of the ups and downs and watching each character approach them in their own way. It's really easy to get attached to Hope, Xan, and Athan and I truly believe that anyone that has read the previous books in the series will be very pleased with not only how these characters have continued to grow but with how their story ends.
Writing: I will forever praise Raye Wagner for her beautiful writing style. It's incredibly easy to just sit down, dive into the world that she's created and follow these characters that I've fallen so in love with. Her writing is so vivid and the way that she describes places such as Olympus and the Underworld as well as the gods and goddesses is incredibly ethereal. You really get the feeling that these people and places are larger than life and completely different from humans and Earth. This entire series has been such a treat to read and I can definitely say that Raye Wagner is an author that I will insta-read anything she puts out in the future! Fingers crossed for more stories in the Sphinx universe. Cough short story about Nyx and her daughters please cough.
Fates and Furies is beautiful, heartbreaking, exciting, and a wonderful conclusion to the Sphinx series. Raye Wagner has, once again, written an unforgettable book that is sure to stick with readers well after the final page. If you haven't picked up the series yet, Fates and Furies releases on 29 June 2017, so be sure to pick up all four books in the series and give it a try!
This was a hard book for me to read. I always find the last book in a series the most challenging typically because I just don’t want the series to end and I am afraid that it will either disappoint or leave me wanting more. This book did not disappoint at all. Fate and Furies is the fourth book in the Sphinx series and by far my favorite book in this series.
The author continues to create a vivid world of Gods and Demigods in this conclusion book of the Sphinx series. The entire book is about Hope trying to escape her curse as the Sphinx. As the series reads we learn a lot about each God and what is really going on at Olympus. The journey finally takes us to Olympus in this book.
I feel this is the most fast paced of all the books. We cover a lot of ground during this book, but there was never a part where I felt that it was overwhelming at all. The pace was perfect for such an elaborate series. Also, since there was a lot of setup in the previous books it felt perfectly in tune with the series.
Hope really grew into such a mature character during the series of these books. I enjoyed watching her grow and become her own person. Hope could put everything aside for the common good and work towards a bigger picture solution. I loved how level-headed Hope was during this journey even with so much happening and her friends being placed in danger.
The author does an amazing job creating the world in this series and in this book, we get an amazing look at Olympus. I loved all the world building the author created, she really took her time to go into a vivid description of how she pictures Olympus. I was easily able to image being with the characters while they were in Olympus and taking this journey with them. The author made the characters come off the page.
My one complaint would be that the series ended. The ending is perfect for this series I didn’t want more at the end, but just knowing there isn’t a book five is hard. I can’t wait to see what Raye writes next.
I would suggest reading the entire series from start to finish. I don’t really feel these are standalone books as the author pulls people and previous events into the series. I would suggest this as a perfect weekend binge series.
So, the end is here and I'm sad to see this series go as I have floved all these books. I read the first book at the beginning of last year and have then impatiently waited for all the rest of the books in the series to be released since then. There have been laughs and smiles along the way and there have been tears. There have also been shockers, none more so than in book number three so I'd say this last book is the one I have been most impatiently waiting for.
Raye Wagner has taken me on such an amazing, magical journey throughout this series which meant the last book had a lot to live up to. Well, it certainly didn't disappoint. Fates and Furies was amazing. It was the perfect end to the series, and a lot happened in this book, but my questions got answered. Raye Wagner did take me through an emotional wringer though, and boy did I cry like a hysterical woman at one point. There were quite a few twists that I just did not see coming and I have to tell you that I really didn't expect it to end the way it did.
I really have loved this series and this last book has just rounded it all off nicely. I've become a Raye Wagner fan for life and I know that I will be reading whatever she writes next. I do hope though that we will get some books from certain side characters from the Sphinx series as I feel that there is so much more of this world to explore. A full five stars from me for Fates and Furies. Bravo to the author, Raye Wagner for writing a book that has drawn me in and enchanted me.
This is an action-packed, exciting conclusion to the Sphinx series, and no one could have written it like Raye Wagner. She's taken us to the Underworld, and in this edition, she takes us to Asgard. Hope's story takes us on the adventure of a lifetime, and this is a fitting conclusion to this part of the story. It is thrilling and perilous, breathtaking and frightening. And it shows us just how much the soul can endure when fighting to right the wrongs of the gods.
This author's stories are lush a full and keep us guessing with each sentence. And as much as I want her characters to find the happy conclusion to their courageous exploits, I'm never ready for the story to end. I cannot wait to see what comes from her creative mind next!
I was hooked on this book the moment i started reading it. I love Athans point of view and getting to read what his life is like now that he is a mortal. I love Xan but he made me a little mad with all the bashing he did to Athan, i know he wants the girl but dang Athan dod give up something huge for her. I love the fight scenes, the descriptions made then seem so real and i think this author has a brilliant mind to come up with them. I couldnt put this book down it was that good!
Raye has done it again with another great book! I could not put this book down. It was great to see all my favorite characters and I enjoyed seeing more of the gods in this book. This is a must read! Raye does a wonderful job getting you so wrapped up in her story you don't want it to end. I will miss The Sphinx series characters but I look forward to reading whatever Raye puts out next.
I look forward to reading more from you. This book was awesome and I wish there was more but I always wish for more. I have fallen in the love with the characters. I am still team Xan. I love his snarky attitude.
What a great ending to this series! Loved the developments within the story and all the action. Amazingly written by Raye. I would definitely recommend.
I really enjoyed this book. there was love and hate to things that were happening. Great last book on the series. Due to events i was changing the teams i was in: Athan, Xan and Hope. i finally got to team: cheering you all. Final events were really fast paced and surprising, but in the end everything was explained clearly. YA needs more books with emotions like in The Sphinx Series. I hope there will be more books on this huge Universe.
Well then, Raye outdid herself yet again. This book is amazing and in the last chapters it leaves asking yourself what's happening until everything is explained fully but Yay hope
An absolutely amazing addition to The Sphinx series. This series just gets better and better. Follow along with Hope, Xan and Athan to see if they can break Hope's curse. Find out what happens next in the lastest installment of The Sphinx series.
I don't even know where to start. The final book in this series was awesome. Raye takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. She left me gasping, laughing crying and swearing. You litterly feel all emotions while reading this. Once you think one thing was going to happen, Bam Raye totally takes it to another direction. You don't want to miss this book
A nice end to this cool Ancient Greek meets modern time adventure. I had a lot of fun and I love the characters... I might've picked a different guy though... That part was a bit weird. Anyhu. Fun fun fun :D
IMG_20160721_171325 THE WRITING. I love the wuting style of the author in this book. You can see the improvement on the writing of Raye Wagner since the first book in the series. I love the cliffhangers on every chapter because it kept me wanting for more and had me hooked til the very last page. I like how she wrote those moments of action, especially how she made us see the pettiness, obsessiveness and just asshole ways of how those Greek Gods can be. Amazing writing style and laying out of the plot and characters.
THE PLOT. My gosh, there’s an insane level of ups and downs of this book. We are now direct dealing with the Greek gods here and when I say Greek gods, I mean the lot of the Olympians. I always thought that any moment, a war will break out between the Olympians because of their level of petty and arrogance. I like the plot progression, the search of Hope, Athan, and Xan’s way into Olympus. I love how intense the book is because it literally had me at the edge of my seat and reading til I reach the end. I like how the plot was laid out and how the bound gods on the Underworld made a play on the unraveling of the fate of the characters fueled by Hope’s fury. See what I did there? Fate and Fury? Uhuh *wiggles eyebrows* LOL no.
THE CHARACTERS. This book made me love Xan, I liked him in the previous books but in this one I sort of fell in love with him! He’s like a guy who looks like he can kill you, can actually kill you but still a cinnamon roll. I felt bad for him the way his dad treats him and gosh in the the temple where he has to fight of his bro to death to be granted audience by Ares! And what Ares did to him! Xan made me cry so much in this book. Now let’s talk about Athan, he’s mortal now so it teared up mu heart when in the beginning of the book he was trying to keep up with Xan and Hope in the training and he ended up in the hospital. My baby 😭. I love how he fought for his love for Hope even in his mortal self and how he made his father see it. Oh and speaking of Athan’s dad, Hermes, he really did love Athan. What he did to his temple’s priests because of what they did to Athan and all he’s willing to do to protect him. Hermes may not be the best dad but he’s a good one especially to Athan.
Hope! She has grown so much, I love her drive when it comes to achieving her life mission. I cried at the part when she finally forgave her dad for leaving them. I was like “Girl you might not remember meeting him in the Underworld but thank the gods you finally forgave him”. I also like the moment when we go back to Goldendale and she connected with the people there like Mr. Stanley and Hayley. Another amazing amazing thing that happened to Hope? Her changes of appearances! Like my gosh, aside from the hair, she always got some awesome coloured eyes! I like how she found her powerful sisters and they kinda welcomed her in their circle because after that I was all like, ” Ah, the title made sense”😂. Any ways, I love the three so much! They made me cry, smile, laugh and feel all kinds of emotions especially in this book. I’m glad what happened to their fates in this book.
THE ENDING. It was just perfect and beautiful! It made me cry because of satisfaction and that special appearance at the end of the book! I so want more suddenly even though this is already the end of the series. Such lovely ending, thank you so much Raye Wagner! Also, you mentioned Dahlia, is there gonna be a spin off? Please?
Hope is back from the underworld with no memory but she still has a curse to break and break she will or at least she will keep fighting to break it for as long as she breathes.
Hope needs to talk to one of the Gods to get help in breaking her curse so she needs to go to Mount Olympus but there is one little ole’ problem and that is she needs an invite from one of the Gods. So now she is on a mission to see all the Gods until she finds her invite.
Hope takes Xan along for the ride on her journey to find her invite with the Gods on Mount Olympus. Hope and Xan will face tragedy and a lot of obstacles on their journey to Mount Olympus. But Hope and Xan are very good fighters and make a good team.
Hope has come a long way in growing up and maturing since the first book in The Sphinx series Cursed by the Gods. I have so enjoyed going with Hope on her journeys of trying to find a way to break the curse and on being with her when she met Athan, Xan, Dahlia, Haley, Mr. Stanley, the Fates and the Furies, Nyx and all the other characters for the first time.
This has been one amazing journey and one I am going to miss so much. The Sphinx series has been my favorite books on mythology so far. I think every book I pick up on mythology I will probably always compare it to the Sphinx series to see how it stands up. The Sphinx series is going to be one tough cookie to beat. I have enjoyed every book in the Sphinx series including the short stories and am very thankful to Raye for giving me the opportunity to have met Hope, Xan, Athan, Dahlia and all the rest of the crew. Thank you Raye for this wonderful world of the Sphinx. I am going to miss every one of the characters but hopefully we have not seen the last of them.
If you have not read the Sphinx series then I would love to suggest that you give it a try if you love reading about the Gods and Goddess and mythology or just want an amazing new story to try.
This book series is completely fantastic! From the beginning of book 1 to this book, Raye Wagner has completely intrigued me. Since the book summary is already above, I am not going to summarize. But my thoughts on this book, oh my gosh I have so many. I'm going to try not to spoil the book. I just want to say, the variety of gods that she included in this book is astonishing. Their personalities, the author made them so, life like. Usually in some books (such as Percy Jackson, a so called children's book) the gods have human-like personalities, and in this book, you can really see their difference among the gods, demigods, and monsters. I really enjoy the difference she puts between them. This book, I would say, is the best out of the series. So action packed and with moments that your heart just jumps out of your chest, I would really recommend this book. I'm personally still on team Xan, still hoping and in my mind fanfiction putting them together :). After Athan gets his immortality taken away, you can really see some vulnerability from him, and that really makes you sympathize with the character. There are little bromance moments and the epic ending is , like I said, epic! The only thing that I really would change is description. I would add more to the description of places, which make the reader really immerse themselves in the book, making them feel as though they were a person just watching the events unfold. Congrats Raye Wagner, you have done it again!
The final installment of Hope's journey is a crazy rollercoaster ride...SO NOT KIDDING!!! Don't read any more of this unless you've read the first three books!!!!!
Myths of Immortality (book 3) left us with Athan as a mere mortal, a hot mortal, but still a mortal. And Hope has this crazy idea to go up to Mount Olympus, but can't remember why after her memory was wiped by the river Lethe. Problem is, the only way to get to Mount Olympus is through an invite from one of the gods. Unfortunately, Hope isn't at the top of any of their lists at the moment.
Hope and Athan's relationship has obviously changed a little due to his mortality, but Hope's friendship with Xan is stronger than ever. #TeamXan for life! Seriously. Without giving away any spoilers, there are more than a couple hurdles for all three of our main characters, but their struggles are well-written by the amazing Raye Wagner.
My only warning for readers is that there are A LOT of names thrown around in this book, mostly gods and fates. If you're a mythology expert, you'll be completely fine, but if you're like me, keep a list of all the gods (conveniently located within the index of Fates and Furies) within reach. IT'S WORTH IT!!!
This book was a great end to a wonderful series. It's genuinely sad to see this series finish, but I am glad that what I had hoped for, was fulfilled.
As always, I loved the way Raye incorporates Greek mythology in this, but does so in such a unique way. For example, we see more of the fates and their role. I also loved the idea of how the meaning of words can be interpreted differently and how it is cleverly used to help Hope break the curse.
Similar to the third book, I really liked the change in setting here, from the underworld to Olympus, where we got a chance to see the gods in action. I liked that Raye gives us a different perspective on the gods, showing their two sided natures.
I loved the characters, Hope for her determination and Athan and Xan for their selflessness. I enjoyed the plot too, although there was an unexpected moment that broke my heart. Raye is really good at expressing the high stakes that are involved in Hope's quest and leaves you thinking at times whether Hope will succeed or not.
As a whole, I really enjoyed following Hope on her journey to break the curse and I highly recommend the series for all Greek mythology fans!
It's a YA read?!! Exciting, allot of action, love, betrayal and... Hope;-)
I had no clue, after the first book I realized there was no steamy scenes.. But that want right either.. There was romance.. Allot infact. Just not the kind that you read with your back against the wall.
***Spoiler warning****
Hope is extremely strong emotionally and physically...I just don't understand why she's so unsure of EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING. --- she's a bit of a whiner. Which is understandable with almost all of the characters killed off.. Mutt my God... Give her some belief in her self.
Xan- arg.. Why oh why did he NEVER get anything out of any of these books. I was hoping for Xan.. but I can see why she picked Athan. Then.. He's gone.. Not even mad at always being pushed to the back?
With that being said. I was and am hooked. I'm 31 and I'm ridiculously hooked on this YA series..I just signed up for the newsletter..
I was a bit disappointed by this ending not that it wasn’t good or satisfying but it felt a bit unbalanced in my opinion I mean I found a big part of this novel quite slow but the last few chapters made me gape and I couldn’t stop reading I have the happy ending I’ve always wanted even if it was really convenient I’m ok with that And even if the world building and plot are still really good I found the characters a bit annoying I mean Athan is adorable but he spend a lot of time complaining about his not immortal anymore statut and I get it but it was a bit too much and Xan is too much in the self sacrifice mood and Hope even if I think she’s a great main character she doesn’t always think before doing something I still liked them a lot but for the first time I was mad at them during some scenes It’s still a really good book series if you love Greek mythology and ancient gods and unusual story surrounding it
A quest to seek an audience with the Gods in Olympus... Filled with danger... Disastrous results occur... Will Hope face the power of the past to change the fate of the future? Will she finally be free from of the curse and Apollo?
Such a mystical, captivating, enjoyable and fantastic read. Such a great end to a successful series. So happy as to how all the events occurred and played out.
I was so eager for the last book to come out and I'm filled with joy as to how everything played out. Such a promising series.
Full of curses, Gods, demigods, monsters, action, adventure, darkness, sacrifices and love.
Perfect for readers of Greek mythology/urban fantasy.
Now this is how you end a series! I've been dying to read this book since it downloaded on my Kindle. I got home from work and read the entire thing in one shot, only taking breaks when it felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest. This book is a phenomenal conclusion to the Sphinx series complete with drama, romance, and enough energy to keep a reader on the edge of their seat (or at least have them yell at someone when they try to interrupt... I know I did). Already loving this series, after reading this book, it is now one of the few book series I recommend to everyone because it has something for every reader. Happy reading!
What a fantastic way to end a series! The last in this the Sphinx series sees brave Hope battle the gods of Olympus to save her friend, family and the world! Action packed from beginning to end, with Xan and Athan at her side Hope proves what a heroine she really is.
I love the dynamics between Athan Hope and Xan, and I enjoyed how they interacted with each other, and the straths between their bonds. I am very sad to see this series end, but there are many other characters awaiting their stories.
Raye Wagner is a genius at weaving exciting and thrilling stories for us readers to enjoy, I highly recommend this book, it is a thrilling and exciting conclusion to a fantastic series
I really loved this book. What a great end to a wonderfully imaginative series! It's so easy to get wrapped up in the lives of the characters while reading this book...you just want to laugh, cry, mourn, and experience each feeling along with Hope and her companions the entire way. I love the mythological ties throughout this series, book 4 included. I'd recommend this book to fans of mythology, fantasy, and maybe even those that feel like they don't quite belong in a specific setting or situation. It's good stuff, I promise! :)
WOW, just wow! This book had me on my toes the entire time! I had a hard time putting it down. The final installment in the Sphinx series has us following Hope and Xan through the trials and tribulations of her quest to end the curse on her and her family. Throughout this book my heart raced as I truly felt the emotions, especially anger for the characters! I am an extreme lover of mythology, while devouring this book my world melted away until it was just me, Hope, Xan, and the Gods. Serious love for this series, THANK YOU RAYE!
