Born and raised on the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario Amy fled the big city to settle down with the country boy of her dreams. When she's not furiously typing away at her computer, she's a mom to three wonderful children, who have given her another job as a taxi driver.
A voracious reader, she was given her first romance novel by her grandmother who shared her penchant for a hot romance. From that moment, Amy was hooked by the magical worlds, handsome heroes and sigh worthy romances contained in the pages and she knew what she wanted to be when she grew up.
Life got in the way, and after the birth of her second child, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a romance author.
It's been many years since I read a Harlequin category romance, but they were my introduction to reading romance. I and several schoolfriends used to visit the local charity shops, pool our loose change and go back with carrier bags full of them, which we would pass around and then read until they fell apart.
As a reviewer and an indie author myself, I review mostly indie-published books, but when I saw a whole bunch of Harlequins pop up as available for review on NetGalley, I started clicking on impulse... and ended up with nine of them to review.
So here goes. Were they like I remember? Were the heroes dark, brooding, tortured and generally asshats? Were we told that the heroines were intelligent, independent women, and then shown that in fact they're a Bit Dense and Need A Man to take care of them?
Well, His Pregnant Royal Bride definitely ticked all those boxes, I'm afraid.
Dante is a prince (of course) who is working as a trauma surgeon in Venice. He and Shay (a nurse practitioner working for an organisation obviously meant to be a parallel to the WHO or perhaps MSF) have a passionate night at a conference in Honolulu and Shay ends up pregnant because the condom failed.
We're told all about Shay's work in third world countries for the not-WHO several times through the book, so my first question is 'why the hell isn't she on regular birth control?' Any woman working in a third-world country generally goes for a long-term solution like an implant or IUD, but it's never suggested that Shay even considered that.
Dante's first reaction when she tells him about the baby (at 16 weeks pregnant) is to demand a paternity test... and then tell her that IF he's the father, they WILL get married. He doesn't bother informing her that his entire reason for this is that he will lose his princely inheritance to his even more asshat father if he's not married and a father by his 35th birthday, which at this point is about 5 months away.
Way to be an absolute ass to the woman who's just turned up with the solution to save everything you care about, Dante.
And Shay! I wanted to like her, wanted to believe in her intelligence and independence... but when she let Dante convince her into marriage BEFORE coming up with a pre-nup to share custody, and without even bothering to check into Italian laws ABOUT custody (which most definitely favour the father and/or the Italian citizen parent), I absolutely despaired of her.
Even though they do find their way to an eventual happy-ever-after (one assumes) I didn't like either of them enough to want them to be together.
The book isn't badly written; the language is good and it's well-edited though the story feels a little choppy at times. I just couldn't warm to either of the main characters, and right now I'm not looking forward to the 8 other books I have to read for Harlequin.
Two stars.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book for review through NetGalley.
MS Ruttan has delivered another story that is emotional and so very moving this one brings two very caring and beautiful people from two totally different backgrounds together in a sensual and uplifting journey to a beautiful HEA in the most gorgeous of settings Venice, sit back and enjoy this one.
Nurse Practitioner Shay Labadie comes from New Orleans and hurricane Katrina changed her life, she now works hard travelling the world helping out where she is needed for United World Wide Health Association she has no intention of marrying but when a one night stand leaves her pregnant she needs to find the father and let him know. This brings her to Venice and back in contact with the gorgeous Dr Dante Affini and her well- ordered hard working life is about to change.
Dante is a caring trauma Doctor he has a few problems relating to family that need to be taken care of when fate steps in to help and the gorgeous one night stand Shay he had months ago arrives to work with him and drops a bombshell on him. His practical thinking steps in and he is determined to marry Shay and give their child a father and mother, it will of course be a marriage of convenience or will it that spark they created months before is not gone.
I was in tears towards the end with this one it is so emotional but I ended up smiling big time as Dante realizes his love for Shay when disaster strikes and this little family starts fresh. Thank you MS Ruttan for a beautiful story in such a beautiful setting another one for the keeper shelf I do highly recommend this one.
His Pregnant Royal Bride by Amy Ruttan feeds one’s addiction for romance. This is an enjoyable story and one that is a quick yet entertaining read from beginning to end. I enjoyed meeting and getting to know the two main characters as much as I enjoyed the secondary cast who added depth to the drama which unfolds. Nurse Shay Labadie is a genuinely warm person and when she meets sexy Dr. Dante Affini sparks fly and one thing spirals into another. Before you know it, Shay’s sexy prince is popping the question, though for his own reasons we’ll soon learn, after he discovers she’s carrying his child. But will she say yes? And if she does will her reason be because she’s fallen head over heels for her doctor prince?
Shay and Dante met in Hawaii at a medical conference. Thinking they would never see each other again, they share one passionate night together. When Shay realises she is pregnant she tracks Dante down in Venice to let him know. Dante is wary of Shay, after an ex lead him to believe he was the father of her baby. He demands a paternity test and tells Shay if he is the father. They will get married, it will only be in name and last for a year. What he doesn't tell Shay is why that must happen. Dante's father is a horrible man who only cares about himself. If Dante and his brother don't get married by the time they are 35 and produce an heir. They will lose there inheritance. Will Shay find out about this and how will she take it? I'm not going to tell you. If you like contemporary romance with a little medical thrown in. Pick up a copy .
His Pregnant Royal Bride (Royal Spring Babies) by Amy Ruttan Nurse Shay Labadie meets Dr. Dante Affini and little does she know he is a Prince. They grew up in 2 very different settings and worlds. Nurse Shay grew up in New Orleans and when hurricane Katrina hit it changed her life forever. She lost her mom due to it when her mom spent too much time in a mold infested dwelling and she dearly loved her mother. Nurse Shay works hard and travels the world with The World-Wide Health Organization. Shay comes to Venice never expecting to find Dr. Dante and she did and drops a bombshell on him. She is pregnant from that one night they spent together. Dr. Dante’s family issues past and present lead him to the point of having to marry by a certain age and produce an heir to win back things that their father basically stole from the 2 boys once their mom died. When Shay announces, she is pregnant he of course insists on a test to make sure it is his which it is then he also proposes a plan. Dr. Dante and Shay will marry and remain married for a year, give the baby a legal name and basically making it a marriage of convenience. However, neither expected to fall in love the way they did. This story brought tears flowing at the end of the book and yet some were happy tears. Please enjoy!
Shay Labadie decides it can't hurt to have a night of fun with Doctor Dante Affini its the last day of the conference they are attending and she probably won't see him again. Best laid plans don't always work out like you figure and she finds out she is pregnant. Knowing she must tell him she heads to Italy not wanting anything except to tell him about the baby. Surprise he asks her to marry him and also lets her know he is a prince. She has big trust issues but for the love of her unborn child she will try. Ms. Ruttan keeps you involved in this story to see how these two will find their HEA and she always delivers.
"His Pregnant Royal Bride" by Amy Ruttan was one of those books that once I picked it up I didn't want to put down. Nurse Shay Labadie wanted one night of passion with Doctor Dante Affini on the last day of the conference they both attended with no strings attached, but a few months later she found out she there was a lasting impression from their lovemaking. Finding herself pregnant she heads to Italy to tell Dante the news and doesn't expect anything in return. To her surprise he proposes.
Wow. Amazing as always. I was supposed to be sleeping but couldn't put this book down. I had to know how it ended. These characters are well developed and truly loveable. I loved everything about this story. Lots of emotional drama and several moments when I wanted to smack them upside their heads, but they figured it out and I was left with a light heart and a smile. Another sigh worthy read from Amy Ruttan.
HIS PREGNANT ROYAL BRIDE by author Amy Ruttan is a March 2017 release by Harlequin Medical Romance series.
Nurse Shay Labadie had one passionate night with Dr. Dante Affini, yet it had consequences. Now she was pregnant and in Italy to let Dante know.
But what she herself didn’t know was that Dante was also a prince and there were paparazzi after him all the time.
Dante’s way of saving Shay from the tabloids was for them to get married. Would Shay agree to a marriage of convenience? She wanted a man to love her for herself not for the baby she carried. Could this marriage turn out to be her happy-ever-after?
HIS PREGNANT ROYAL BRIDE is set in Venice. I felt as I was there with Dante and Shay. I was hooked in the story as a reader until the very last page. This story had all the drama of a medical romance and a royal romance.
Highly recommended for all readers of medical romance.
•One Perfect Night This is a part of a duet about two brothers who are not only doctors but Italian princes too boot. I cannot wait to read the other half of this duet about Dante's brother Enzo written by Robin Gianna. I absolutely loved reading Dante and Shay's story! When one perfect night turns into so much more! They are both afraid that the love they have for the other will not be reciprocated, just like their parents. To find out if they have to live a loveless life together or if they get the happily ever after they both crave you'll have to tear HIS PREGNANT ROYAL BRIDE! It'll be worth your time. Now I want to read Baby Surprise for the Doctor Prince by Robin Gianna to find out what happens between Enzo and Aubrey.
Completely fell in love with this book, definitely as always ticks all the boxes for me, not to mention getting to vent at certain villain omg made myself jump 3 times shouting at the book including omg I want to punch said villain and no I'm not giving it away. You definitely go though all emotions and get surrounded and pulled in to this wonderful book, as always love is the best medicine, always and I will be reading its counterpart in a moment as I cant wait, literally finished in one go, thank you as always Amy xxx
It was only supposed to be one night of passion but its leads to more when Nurse Shay finds herself pregnant. So when shes decides to tell Dante about this little tidbit little does she expect for him to not only will she have to marry him now but that hes also a price. Now they are going to have to get married for convenience but there seems to be something that the Dante is hiding from her.
I liked this book it was pretty basic and like many other books that I've read just can't help but keep picking up books like this. It was enjoyable and has its only unique bits to it. This book was well written with a set of interesting characters from different backgrounds which I can appreciate. Overall this was a pretty good book I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed this read, but I didn't love it. There was just something missing that I can't put my finger on. Perhaps because I didn't really connect with Dante & Shay until about 80% of the book. That is just me though so I do highly recommend it...
A wonderful one night stand leads to Shay beoming pregnant. Taking up a post in Venice where the baby's father is a surgeon, Shay informs Dante of the consequences of their unforgettable night. Having no clue who Dante really is or how their baby can save his heritage, Shay agrees to a marriage of convenience.
I really liked the location of the story and the medical drama's including Shay's. I liked the history of Shay and Dante's backgrounds and I really liked learning about who Shay works for and I loved the low build to the path of love.
A wonderful solid and heartwarming tale which is part one and Dante's brother and Shay's friend who are part two looks just as captivating. This is a medical romance with a touch more!
Ok Everyone lets get out some hot chocolate and a warm blanket so we can snuggle in and read a good book. If you want a sweet romance. Then this is the book ....DANTE and SHAY two different worlds apart manage to come together after one unexpected night. This book was easy going , slow to begin. Once it got started I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I felt like I was apart of the book because of where. Shay was from and also the Villan could have been a little bit more in depth with him. I am not a big of Contemporary romance , but I love this book from beginning to end. So I will definitely read her next books. Thanks Amy Ruttan.
One night turns into a lifetime! I had a hard time liking Dante even though I could understand what led him to be standoffish. I would have liked a little more of the guy that she met at the conference that would have led to more warmth and connection between them, but I did enjoy the story and following them on their journey.
Nurse Shay Labadie was only expecting one night of fun with Doctor Dante Affini on the last day of the conference they both attended, but a few months later, she realized she was pregnant. When she heads to Italy to tell him, she's not expecting anything from him ... least of all a marriage proposal!
Dante shocks her with his news that he's a Prince and that he wants her to marry him so he can take care of her and the baby. She's not big on trusting the happily ever after, but she's willing to try for their baby's sake.
I loved His Pregnant Royal Bride by Amy Ruttan. Nurse Shay Labadie and Dr. Dante Affini share one passionate night together. Now four months later, Shay takes a job at Dante’s hospital in Italy to tell him the happy news. Little did she know that he is going to expect her to marry him, not to mention he is Italian royalty!
This is a great story, the characters have real chemistry, and they are both well rounded and have emotional depth. The story flowed beautifully and I highly recommend it to any romance lover.
Definitely a good read! From the first page I was caught until the last. It is a book of contemporary romance, however, one that is intriguing. The writer has a gift that shows through out the book. I was only a little disappointed in the bad guy not being more visible for the comeuppance of the person causing the chaos. The characters and plot are different then a normal one I have been reading lately and it was refreshing that it was not all about sex. (Sorry, even with the heroine ending up pregnant.) Instead it has a story and plots and happening that keep you reading instead of skipping a multitude of pages. I sincerely enjoyed this read and think if you like contemporary romances with a little royalty thrown in for spice so will you. I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna Swedenmom
Dante Affini and Shay Labadie never imagined they’d see each other again after their one-night stand while away at a medical conference. Now though, Shay’s pregnant and she’s determined to tell Dante. However, she never believed he’d make an offer he expected she’d never refuse. But Dante has his reasons and with so much on the line, Shay might not have any choice but to accept his marriage proposal. Read More
It was okay. I could have done without various plot points and actions of the MCs, though. I really don't feel like getting into the details though. 🤷🏻♀️Just...whatever. I read this mostly due to the fact that the author is Canadian and I needed that for a reading challenge.
