Ask A Shadow To Dance

Rate this book
Two riverboats. Two people in different centuries. Can love find a way to keep them together? While attending a dance on board the Memphis Queen III, Dr. David Stewart sees a woman standing in the shadows, dressed in black, with a veil covering her face. Lisette's old-fashioned clothes, speech, and her fascination with "new" landmarks common to present-day Memphis fascinate him. The next morning, David reads an article about the disappearance of the Cajun Star, in 1885, the most luxurious riverboat ever to sail the Mississippi. On the list of passengers he finds Lisette's name - and his own. Somehow, David must find a way to go back to 1885 in order to keep Lisette and himself off a riverboat destined to leave Memphis and never be seen again. Ask a Shadow to Dance will leave the reader breathless with suspense and desperate for David and Lisette to find a way to be together - in one century or the other.

Linda George is the author of five published novels and, with her husband and co-author, 68 published nonfiction books for children and teens. She became a professional freelance writer after taking the basic course from the Institute of Children’s Literature. Her first three sales were made while taking that course. Writing novels was a logical next step.

In 1990, her picture book, The Hallelujah Corncobs, was published, followed by her first novel in 1998, Gabriel’s Heart, under the pseudonym Madeline George, for Harlequin Historicals.

In 1996, Capstone Press had assigned her 12 books on snakes, a book about koalas, 4 books on working dogs, and 4 books on extreme sports, while Children’s Press had requested a book about the history of Alcatraz. Next came books on Mississippi, Montana, and Idaho for the America the Beautiful series. Nonfiction assignments poured in to the point that her husband, Charles, joined her in 1997 to be able to meet the demand.

68 nonfiction books later, they decided to retire from writing the labor-intensive books, leaving Linda free to return to her first love of writing—romance novels—in 2013.

Having dealt with numerous publishers and editors, Linda decided she wanted more control over her novels. The explosion of books being published for Kindle led her to choose Kindle Direct Publishing instead of having to wait years to have a book slotted with a traditional publisher. At last, her lifelong dream of writing one book after another and seeing them published in a timely manner was possible.

Kiss Me, Chloe is the first novel in the Kiss Me Series, which already has half a dozen books planned. And Linda has another series planned, called Forget Me Not, to follow the Kiss Me Series.

A wonderful time travel historical romance. There is lots of action and a strong plot. The characters are strong and the story flows well. I hated to put it down!

I was intrigued by the book description enough to purchase this without hesitation and I must say - It didn't disappoint.

Ms George approached the subject of time travel from a slightly different angle which was refreshing and sometimes a little frustrating. The characters were all well defined and strong although Andrew did seem a little less grounded. His personality 'roller coaster' became annoying at times but he was at his best when his true nastiness came through. I liked the characters and often thought about the story when my Kindle wasn't in my hands which is always a sign of a good story for me.

Time travel, strong pull of love, well defined characters, hurdles to overcome in both time lines - I enjoyed the journey presented by the author and will no doubt re-visit their tale in the future.

This is a time travel book. David is a doctor in the future, Lisette is a rich man's daughter in Memphis over a hundred years before. There's a portal on the top level of a boat, and another in the fountain at the Peabody hotel.

David falls for Lisette, but when he looks up her fate in the future, she disappears on a ship in an event that was a historical mystery... and *his* name is on the passenger list, as well.

It was... long and predictable and I don't know if I wasn't in the mood for it or if it just didn't suck me in the way I wanted it to, but it... was a slog. I can't tell you why. There were extensive characters, there was good dialogue, there was plot and characterization and good writing... I just felt... nothing. And... I wanted to. So...

Lisette is a rich woman in the 1850's. Dr. David Stewart is a pediatrician in 2009. While on a paddle wheel boat party in Memphis, he sees Lisette. He is drawn to her but when they get on the 3rd deck, she disappears. He is infatuated and wants to find out who she is. He manages to travel back to her time when he visits the Peabody Hotel.

This was a pretty good storyline but the ending was wrapped up a little too quickly. I would have liked a little more at the end.

The book was interesting, although thought there should have been be a better ending. Like time travel stories if they are believable but this one was rather predictable. wanted it to be better but the plot line wasn't really remarkable.

Skimmed a lot of it. I love time travel books and hoped for better, but no such luck with this one.

It was ok. Writing was pretty good but the plot elements seemed contrived at times.
