Mannix Dragon Shifters #3

Mating of Convenience

Rate this book
She makes a deal with the enemy… What could go wrong?

Calla has to protect herself. She doesn't have a choice. The stupid councilors have dreamed up a bogus assignment, just to send her to Dragon Country… alone… with the expectation she won't be coming back. But she has a plan: she'll seduce two dragons before she leaves.

With their scents on her, no other dragon will come near her…

Except the sexy and powerful dragons have different plans. They aren't interested in pretending. They want to take a mate. Her.

***

This hot and sexy novel has explicit sexual content in menage situations, graphic language and a happily-ever-after ending. Each Mannix Dragon Shifters story can be read as a stand-alone story, but relationships and situations would be best understood by reading Their Runaway Mate first.

EXCERPT:

Her shadow fell across the glass door to the private room, drawing his attention from Kolz. The shadow slipped across the floor like a teasing caress as she moved closer. Then he saw her.

The ever-present need to claim her curled through him.

Her usual charcoal business ensembles had been left behind tonight. Instead she wore red. It was the same burgundy hue as his dragon fire. Was that by design or coincidence?

Either way she looked stunning wrapped in his color.

She opened the door. The bellow of music and loud conversations surged into the quiet room for a moment before the door fell closed again on a hush. As she glanced around the room—her gaze jumping from Kolz to him and then over the array of vacant chairs and sofas— her eyes widened as if in surprise. She took a small, but perceptible, step back, toward the door.
Hmm… interesting. What had she expected to find?

"Hello," she whispered.

"Calla," Kolz said softly, welcomingly, as he pushed away from the glass wall. "Please, join us." He waved toward the sofa he'd recently vacated.

A smile flashed briefly over her face as she met Kolz's gaze, then she wove the thin strap of her tiny satin purse between her fingers. "I hope I didn't interrupt anything."

"We were hoping you would come," Kolz said.

Then her attention slid to Xander, as if seeking to confirm Kolz's statement. Her leaf green eyes met on his. They held gazes much longer than what would be considered polite or normal. Her pulse quickened and her scent grew richer, warmer… more enticing.

"I will be leaving tomorrow," she said quickly. "And I'm sorry about the other day. I know Quick didn't give you a choice. I get it. Really."

She licked her lips. It wasn't a sensual movement meant to seduce him, more of a nervous action, but the why didn't matter. Just the sight of that glistening pink tip made his body tighten with anticipation.

"And I wanted to check your progress on the missing girls before I go," she continued, as if unaware of the effect she was having on him.

Kolz frowned. "We haven't had many answers yet. Quick has been clever. He's hidden the evidence pretty deep. But we'll get there."

"Okay, good…" She nodded.

"Now why don't you tell us why you are really here?" Xander said.

Her mouth dropped open in surprise, she obviously hadn't expected him to be direct. When she didn't answer immediately, he let his face relax into a smile.

Read this on a tik tok recommendation and made sure to unfollow the person who recommended it. Don’t read this if you want character development or world building. There is also major NLOG vibes.

Whyte has created a very interesting world in the Mannix Dragon Shifters. I really enjoyed the political aspect. It was truly interesting to see how a world would deal with the fact that there are dragons and the species specific needs they have. How would that effect laws and propaganda? I will say that since this was my first book in the series, I felt a little like I was dropped in the deep end on some of the world building. I will certainly go back and read the first book.
Calla was an excellent heroine- strong, independent and fierce in her own way. She certainly needed it to stand up to 2 dragon mates! Kolz and Xander were sweet and extremely attentive, in every way! The love scenes were very steamy and sexy, though they sometimes felt a little like taking turns rather than a true menage.
The end scene was tender and a little tearful with a great HEA.
I am definitely looking forward to more from this world! I really hope Heather Quick comes into her own and gets her own book.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

When Calla thinks she found proof that women are being kidnapped and given to other dragon shifter clans to be mates, she goes to the dragons that she knows to get help. What they find proof of is even worse than she thought though. So the dragon shifters go about investigating things which puts Calla in danger. The council she's on votes for her to travel to another dragon clan where she could be kidnapped and forced to mate dragons if she isn't protected. But the two dragon shifters that she went to for help with the missing women want her for their own mate and aren't going to let her go anywhere near other dragons without their protection.

As they travel together and spend more time together, she finds herself falling for both Kolz and Xander. There are some mistakes made by all and some miscommunication that leads to some hurt feelings but things are starting to look up for all three of them when tragedy strikes and it might be the end for all of them if Kolz and Xander can't find a way to help Calla.

I liked Xander and Kolz a lot. They let Calla make up her mind if she wanted to be their mate and they weren't too pushy even though they were feeling things that made them crazy because of the mating bond beginning. This was a fun book.

I feel like the author has really grown between the last book and this one- The character development in this book was much richer and I felt like I got a much clearer idea of the composition of the two societies and their history of conflict. It felt like this book really opened the world up into becoming a much larger and involved series. I selfishly hope the author chooses to continue writing this series and (hopefully) at a faster pace than one every year or so now that the plot is thickening.

Mediocre

This wasn’t a bad story. It just felt like it left out a lot of important steps. They meet, spend a couple days together, and then mate. During that entire time FMC was 100% against mating, until she changed her mind out of the blue and then BAM! Mated. There were no feelings involved. Not even a lot of sex. Nothing.

No real plot. No real world building. No character development at all. Two spicy scenes which were fairy boring…The rest of the writing was good though.

Finding love is the silver lining

I love Lori Whyte's Mannix Dragon Sifters series. This book is no exception. It may be a convenient exit from a bad scene, it may start out as refuge from a sh*tstorm, but one gutsy woman and two conflicted dragon shifters equals a steamy menage a trois that morphs into the love of a lifetime. SEXY MFM with a bit of danger thrown in for sauce, this one is worth reading.

I enjoyed this book!
Perhaps, as I hadn't read the previous books, I was at a disadvantage! I didn't get the Dragon pair idea initially! The whole bartering women thing for power threw me, until nearly the end.
Not sure I'd read another

Wow, this was bound to happen at some point and I'm glad it was Calla. Her ideas and beliefs about the dragon country and how they attain their mates are 50% correct. In a way I'm glad that she brought her concerns to Kolz and Xander. They will protect her and see that no harm comes to her, but when the council decides to send her on a journey to e her from finding out the truth. Instead that journey has lead Calla to the loves of her life( Kolz and Xander). They were waiting for her and allowed her to take all the time she need to come to the realization that they where meant to be. Of course when are starting to go good Calla gets abducted and is hurt badly by the tone they finds her. In the end her mates were able to nurse her back to life.

Mating for Convenience is the third book I have read about the Mannix Dragon Shifters. It is a hot, steamy romance with suspense and I enjoyed this book so very much. Calla is working hard to overcome the prejudices humans have against dragons but fighting against the men on the council seems like a hopeless battle. When young women disappear over time she takes her suspicions to Xander and Kolz who are working with the council. She has always felt drawn to them and wondered what it would be like to be with them. Sander and Kolz know Calla is their mate and want to be with her and protect her. When Calla is put in danger they do whatever they have to do to protect her. Read this exciting book to find out just how everything turns out for them. Lori Whyte weaves fascinating stories and I always look forward to more from her.

Dragon Mate

I'm sniffling and trying to dry my tears so I can write a review. Not an easy task! Zander is a Chosen one. He was infused with magic so that he can serve as judge, jury, and executioner (if necessary) to the Dragons he police's. Most Chosen, do not take on a second nor do they find a mate. Zander has a second and between them, they know that Calla is the mate for them. She sits on the Council and fights for the rights of human females. She is attracted to them too, but how can she effectively do her duties if she becomes a Dragon mate? Great love story that tugs at your heartstrings. We learn more of the inter-workings of the Dragons and discover more about the human trafficking and that reaches the highest levels.
