An introductory section details the factors that determine proper joint selection, including the characteristics of various types of woods, joints and adhesives. It then breaks down basic joints into five chapters featuring complete instructions for crafting:

This guide also includes a quick-reference Joint Selector guide, and instructions for working with hand tools as well as power tools to achieve each type of joint.

Solid reference guide

As a new woodworker this was one of the first three books I purchased to learn the basics of woodworking. The number of joints and variations on joints included in this book is astounding. The author breaks the book down into six sections: Edge and Scarf Joints, Lapped and Housed Joints, Mortise-and-Tenon Joints, Miters and Bevels, Dovetails, and Dowels and Biscuits. He then explains the basics of the joint before going into dozens of variations on each joint. Included are hundreds of photos and illustrations along with how-to instructions. I haven't has a chance to try most of them, however, I am looking forward to increasing the level of my woodworking skill as I try new methods of wood joining.
