Summerwood Wolves #1

Wildlands Omega

Rate this book
Deep in the wildlands, Riley has lived by his grandmother’s two rules: Don’t wander far. And alphas are dangerous creatures who are to be avoided. With rules like that, Riley was perfectly content to live out his days on his small homestead. But when a wildfire drives him from his home, leaving him lost and wandering, his only goal is to find a place to rebuild his life of solitude. But when he is rescued by the tall and handsome alpha wolf Jack, he is both wary and intrigued. Despite his long ingrained distrust of alphas, he can’t quite bring himself to fear his savior.

Jack’s life was going great. He had finally been given the honor of leading his pack’s hunts, and he was ready to stand by his brothers and help lead the Summerwood pack. So he’s not thrilled when raids by a band of rogue shifters puts the pack on lockdown. After a fight with his brother, he escapes the confines of his village, only wanting to get away for a little while. When he runs into a human omega with fiery red hair from the wildlands, he can’t stop himself from getting rather attached.

I didn’t really like this little mpreg story.

This could have used a bit more world-building. I couldn’t get a good handle on the whole pack structure. And even though I liked 18 year old Riley, Jack (20) felt too young for me to be a real alpha who could protect his omega. He also acted like a kid having a tantrum in the first few chapters.

The rest of the story was all over the place. The romance happens early on in the book, and even though I like insta-love, this was INSTA-love. These guys meet and talk about love. Yeah, sure.

The ending also felt very underdeveloped. It felt rushed, and I was confused when it just ended all of a sudden.

And why on earth would you call your newborn daughter JJ, after your brother? Wouldn’t that be confusing?

This was a mess. I didn’t like it.

Cute story, but definitely had some major editing errors, including a chapter that was repeated twice and wrong words were used. I found the world building interesting and also frustrating, because I still had questions about when and where this was.

I really enjoyed this story. The only problem I had was a editing issue. One of the chapters for Riley was titled for Jack. I know this because the chapter basically repeated everything in the previous (Riley) chapter. It confused the heck out of me. However, despite the editing issues, it was a good story.

It wasn’t one of my favorite stories. I didn’t dislike it, but I didn’t like it either. I felt like the romance was just very fast past . I don’t know the was conflict but not really and it also left me on cliffhanger which I normally like, but I didn’t like this one. There are three more books left in the series and I may or may not read them.

If you're new to Mpreg/Shifter sub-genre, this book isn't a bad start.

Okay, it isn’t amazing literature, but unlike a lot Mpreg stories I just started to read, I DO find it (so far) more tolerable than Kirk/Spock stories. (I still can’t see a pregnant Kirk whining and complaining on how REALLY tight his shirts were becoming and that his feet needed foot rubs all the time due to edema… Gah, just shoot me and put me out of my misery!...) And it serves to tell more than one story OTHER than just sexsexsexsex. Good. I liked that a lot.

Now I’m going to be a picky copy editor right now. A person knowledgeable in 1950s’ grammar and such should have gone through this with a fine-tooth comb… See it? The idiom I just used? Are we dealing with a universe that could have come up with an idiom like that? Probably. What made me grimace is our world’s clichés and idioms sneaking in… until I was buried in them! That took away my ability to suspend my disbelief and at many points spoiled the story being told. Though a good writer will probably let several slip through, a good editor wouldn’t have.

The ending, some would say, would have been anticlimatical, but I am still a fan of “a day in the life” endings as long as I get enough information to answer more than a few questions.

Did this story make me want to check out the next book? Sure! At $0.99 for the first, I would and I did. It definitely was a novel (which I liked), I didn’t find myself with a dreadful cliffhanger, and I found out that Riley birthed… Whoops! I don’t like doing spoilers, so read another review that does ‘em.

Needs editing

A nice read, but repeated chapters and passages really throw you out of the story. If not for that would have rated 3.5 stars

I enjoyed this, and isn't it all that matters?

Still, the worldbuilding was lacking. I don't quite understand if the ABO categorization applies to all humans? Or simply to shifters and some humans. I wish I could get more explanation.

Although Riley's hermit lifestyle seems quite interesting, it was a bit unbelievable. There are wildlife in the woods and it's hard to believe an elderly and a boy can survive alone. Don't they also have to acquire living utensils from nearby human settlements?

The ending is a bit abrupt, which isn't quite neat.

But one thing I really like about the characters, is that they fit their age and experience. Riley is independent with a sense of naivety, Jack is a hot-headed teenager with self-doubts and a need to prove himself. I like characters that fits their age setting, with mutual support for each other. I love this portrayal of a m/m A/O relationship.

It's very entertening if you don't have any issues with the omegaverse and the MPreg. I think the characters lack depth, and everything happens so quickly it left me a little bit dizzy. They fall in love in the span of one week. Riley was shelterd so I can forgive him for been the way he is, but Jack grew up with others and has like 1 brain cell. I don't like the fact that the pregnancy was never discussed beforehand and it just kind of happens, in the middle of Riley's heat, wich most authors (that I've read) agree it´s not the best time to make important decisions.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it even if I was rolling my eyes the whole time. So if you're looking for a quality reading, this isn't it, if you want something to pass the time and everything above doesn´t bother you, by all means give it a go.

Mediocre at best

There was a lot wrong with this book. The writing seemed very immature or like it was imitating someone else's writing. The plot, if you could call it that, was very standard. There was nothing special about it at all, predictable and flat. There was instant attraction and insta romance, which I hate. Especially, if it is not backed up with any kind of story following the initiation. There were whole phrases repeated, the sex was boring. The main character score very underdeveloped . And way too accepting of a extraordinary situation. It made it unrealistic . This book just didn't work.

A Rough Encounter

Riley, a human omega, was raised deep in the woods, with little contact with other humans or shifters. After he was forced to flee his home barely ahead of a wildfire, he was rescued from a vicious rogue alpha by Jack. Jack recognized Riley as his mate and thus began their story. This is a good story, but could have used more proofreading, as there some confusing spots where it's hard to tell who is speaking. Also, there is an entire chapter repeated, at least in the Kindle version. Although there isn't a cliffhanger, there is an underlying storyline that carries over to the next book.

Ok read

Needs more world building. I think each book's primary focus is going to be on the couple getting together and some external drama. I think Riley was far more interesting than his counterpart. Jack was just sort of lackluster and his temper tantrums didn't endear me to him at all. In the end, he does seem more mature but you don't really understand where his personal growth came from. I accidentally read the 4th book first and then this one. I don't know if I want to read the 2nd and 3rd books.

The best book in the series. I honestly really loved the world this series is set in. It's really unfortunate how the low quality the writing squanders it. Riley is for sure the best character in the series, although I did feel his character was kinda caged up after the mating. Considering he didn't know anything about human/werewolf, alpha/omega reproduction, its weird that he didn't have some kind of existential crisis when he went into heat.

This book and the next book are the same plot, but told from the POV of 2 diff couples in the same pack/village.

I've been on an MM shifter romance kick recently, and most of them have been pretty decent. This one really stands out, but not for any of the right reasons.

The writing is amateur.
The editing needs more attention.
The characters are juvenile.
The dialogue is terrible.
The plot is zzzzzz.

It's all just BAD. I don't know what else to say. There are plenty of decent shifter books on kindle unlimited if you're looking for fluffy romance. This isn't one of them.

Okay, so I've really been getting into reading MPreg this last month and when I stumbled across this series I just had to read it. I am only giving this 4 stars because I really like the story line and the idea of them having triplets. But the fact that a published book that is being sold had a simple error such as the name of a chapter being wrong, as well as it also being repeated is just not right...
But other than that I am loving it so far...and now onto book 2...

Huff n Puff! I had to!!!😍😍😍

Ruby Nox has a way with words! And she puts them together in the most delicious combinations. The first of the Summerwood Wolves books is full of evilness and beautiful goodness. The journey of our sweet omega starts with a bang keeping you breathless. This omegaverse is creative and exciting with fierce and sexy wolves. And having to wait for the Big Bads is naughty.😋 I highly recommend adding this series to your kindle!!!😘

This book is a good series starter. It has good potential for the series. There are good things about the book and story itself that are enjoyable and believable and worthy. Maybe not 4 star worthy. But when you combine everything together, I'm pretty sure it averages out.
I voluntarily read this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.

Great book

I loved Jack and Riley's story. While Riley wasn't raised to know about what he was and about wolfpacks, he was very mature.... The complete opposite of Jack. But through meeting and loving Riley, he grew and you see him become the Alpha that he should and meant to be. This is a great book, and this series will be wonderful. I'm definitely going to read the next one.

I know this is a short read, but oh my goodness the insta love is very strong. I read Wildlands Omega with the impression that our main characters were much younger than their actual age, which made the idea of them getting pregnant infinitely scary for me. I couldn't finish this book because it felt way too rushed, both in the relationship and in the overall plot.

A redhead from the Wildlands that takes an alpha.

Riley has never been to the outside world and is unaware of other societies. Jack is a young alpha who is a little on the wild side. A fire and a rogue alpha bring the two of them together. What happens next is an education for Riley.

Riley was lovely, innocent yet strong. I loved the descriptions in the books, the way Jack saw him and they treated each other <3 I loved their relationship and the action too, Riley with a crossbow was amazing.

After fire forces you to leave the only home you've known and go running into the big bad scary woods, you're bound to run into someone who wants to hurt you bad. Good thing there was a handsome hero close by to save you.

3 stars cause though a great story... it was WAY WAY too short.

Sweet stuff

The story was entertaining, I loved the characters and the writing was good. Is quite cheesy and lovely, gives you some ideas too for next stories. My only problem was the "I have only known you for a couple hours and I'm already taking you for life"...

I like this author and look forward to the next installment. The characters are sweet and well written. This does need for a bit more editing.

Great start to a new series and author for me. I liked the writing style and characters. I think the author could do with some more editing but over all very enjoyable. Riley is likable and I was impressed by his strengths as well as his softer side. Jack took a bit longer to impress me. He's a bit immature and selfish. He does love Riley and wants to be the man he needs to be for their family.

Family

A wonderful read of family, love and new beginings. Also of love of neighbor. Honor even in hard times. Read it and the series will keep you wanting more.😉
