Adria F. Klein is a sought-after educational speaker, author, and expert in literacy instruction; author of children's books; and director of a center focused on early literacy intervention at Saint Mary's College of California.
This book follows Max to the doctor for his annual physical. It has fairly simple text, but does a good job of showing what typically happens at the doctor's office.
The publisher calls this a "Purple Level" book because it "presents basic topics and objects using high frequency words and simple language patterns." Even with the repetition, the reader would have to be at the end of letter name/beginning reader stage moving into becoming a transitional reader to read this book independently.
But, it would be a great read aloud to help discuss doctor visits.
Grade Levels: Pre-K - K * Introduces young children (Pre-K to Kindergarten) what typically happens during a visit to a physician's office * Can be used to encourage students who may be fearful of the doctor's office * Use to introduce healthcare to young children
This book would be a great kindergarten read. It has great illustrations that show exactly what the text is saying. It would be a great way to start the school year talking about students' doctor visits.
