To ROBIN BARTLETT, men were nothing more than violent users.
After a hair-raising childhood, Robin and her two younger half sisters battled simply to survive. Determined to give her sisters a very different life from that of their mother; to never have to rely on a man for anything, she worked two jobs and put them both through college, while accepting help from no one. Her heart had turned to ice and she had no use for men or God.
ANTONIO "TONY" VISCOLLI had grown up on the streets, homeless. At seventeen, he entered a downtown church with the intent of casing it, but found himself on his knees at the altar. Lovingly fostered by the youth minister, Tony learned about God. Striking out on his own, he let God lead him to eventually become a very successful businessman. In a fallen world, Tony was a gem. When he bought the restaurant where Robin bartended, she immediately resented his intrusion into her well ordered, but exhausting, life. She suspected his special attention and constant kindness came with expectations of something from her in return, something she wasn't willing to give.
Tony knew God had led him to Robin. Would she ever allow herself to trust him? Could she ever allow herself to trust God? Or would the winter of their tragic youths rise from the shadows of the past and freeze any chance at happiness?

Dichotomy 1. A division or contrast between two things that are or are represented as being opposed or entirely different. 2. This book
I have such issues with this book that I can barely write what I want to without being mean. The definition above was mean enough.
A highly irritating theme for me in Christian books is one where a dedicated Christian pursues a dedicated non-Christian, even to the point of declaring love. Hoping to be an influence for Christ is not a good enough reason to hotly pursue a person who either does not share your faith, or is dead set against it. The possibility or high probability of the Christian falling into temptation is too great to ever go there. God expects better of us. And for a Christian author to use that as the main theme of the book is just plain irresponsible. What a terrible example for new or weak Christians.
Granted, there were some extremely Christ-centered themes also woven in the book, but the dichotomy is when a non-biblical theme is mixed in with a biblical one. The passionate kisses and temptations in which the main character engages are just wrong in something that is supposed to be Christ-centered.
Sapphire Ice had me captivated from the very beginning of the prologue. I expected to enjoy this book, but was surprised at just how much the story drew me in. Hallee brings her characters to life in real-world situations and settings that leave you imagining you'll run into them somewhere someday. This is a very touching love story that shows the true romance between the characters without graphic sexuality that has become common in other romance novels. The sneak peek at the end left me wanting more.
I was hooked from the Prologue and picked it up every spare minute I had. Even with an infant and a toddler, I finished it in 2 days because I just couldn't put it down! The characters are so real and well thought out, the story draws you in and has unexpected twists and developments throughout. More than just a good love story, it's a great book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Robin, Maxine, and Sarah are introduced in Sapphire Ice as three young women working hard to overcome a background of fear, deprivation, and neglect, raised by a drug addicted mother. Robin's sense of responsibility pushes her to work two jobs, both in the food industry, to put her sisters through college. Maxine has graduated and is a very successful advertising executive but Robin refuses her help paying for Sarah's nursing degree.
These women, while coping with the fallout of their pasts, have landed on their feet with some real hang-ups about any long term relationship with a man. Robin does not entertain any relationship but comes face to face with a man just as determined to win her heart in Sapphire Ice. Tony, a born again believer with a street gang background appears to be the one person who might change her mind about the opposite sex.
Emerald Fire opens with Maxine and Barry on a collision course to a lasting relationship. Barry, best friend to Tony Viscolli and his corporate lawyer, discovers his estranged wife is pregnant with another man's child. His faith in a faithful God is tested when she dies in a skiing accident after Barry prayed for God to mend his marriage. Maxine comes to the rescue but before their relationship blossoms, Maxine is involved in a life threatening accident. Barry comes to her rescue while sister's Robin and Sarah look on.
In Topaz Heat, Sarah takes center stage as OB/GYN nurse in the large Boston Hospital. Her nemesis, Derrick, uses every opportunity to gain her attention after returning to Boston to run one of Tony Viscolli's hotels. Sarah has no memory of her early childhood. She was the only sister who was adopted out of her circumstances as a child and raised by loving Christian parents. Sarah cannot relate to Derrick's street wise background.
This book grabbed my attention from the beginning and I loved reading it. There are strong characters dealing with real life situations. I love that it has strong Christian morals while not being judgmental or too 'preachy"! A great read.
I loved Sapphire Ice! This was the first book I have read in a long time and really enjoyed it. I was hooked and had to read the next two in the series.
This was a great Christian fiction book. I have to admit that the title made me assume that this would be just another typical romance, but fortunately I read the book description and realized that it's not. The title is actually perfect to describe Robin, the main character, and now I can see how perfectly the jewel theme works for this series. While it is definitely a romance, it is a good, solid, worthwhile story. The characters have flaws--some small, some quite large--that show they are real people. They also overcame terrible childhood circumstances to be who and what they are today. This book touches on child abuse, drug use, murder, and a few other such issues, but the author does so in a careful way without skimming over them or going too in depth. It is a beautiful story of God's love being shared and expressed through His children to bring others to Him. I plan on purchasing the other 2 books in the series. This one is not a cliffhanger and stands on its own, but I look forward to learning more about one of the other characters.
I thought this was a great book & really well written. I love all the characters & can't wait to find out what happens in the 2nd book of this trilogy.
Sapphire Ice is book 1 of the Jewel Trilogy by author Hallee Bridgeman. The author offered me a chance to review the whole trilogy and host a giveaway as well. After reading the blurbs I was excited to get a chance to review these Christian Fiction books on my blog.
Sapphire Ice begins the trilogy with Robin's story. She is the oldest of three sisters who were raised by a drug addict mother and her many, many men. The girls were all neglected and abused until the day their mother was murdered. Robin fought to get her sisters back together and after years of struggle was finally able to have them all living together in a small apartment. Her life is hard - she works two jobs to pay the bills and put her sisters through college and refuses any and all help. When Robin meets Tony she takes and instant dislike to him, while at the same time fights strange feelings of attraction. As their unlikely romance blossoms, she is reluctant to give her heart to God and Tony.
I loved this book. Robin's story touched my heart and I found myself empathizing with her childhood and the difficult choices she made to keep her sisters together. Her struggles are so realistic and heartrending, and her relationship with Tony not only pushes her past her normal barriers but also shows her God's faithfulness and Love.
This is not a book for younger readers. There is mention of abuse, rape, drug use, and assault. It is definitely a wonderful, emotional story that will surely tug at your heartstrings.
* I receive this book free from the author in hopes that I would post my review. All my reviews are my personal and honest opinion - see my blog for more info: www.momloves2read.com
The Christian novel, Sapphire Ice, by Hallee Bridgeman is like a Cinderella story with a twist. Robin Barlett, not a Christian, comes from a very dysfunctional family and is very independent, not wanting help. Robin meets Tony Viscolli, an attractive Christian man who is filthy rich and seems to be poised, confident, and a very influential man in the world.
Robin is very protective of her sisters Maxine and Sarah and works two jobs to make sure they are well cared for and able to attend college so they can be successful in life. She distrusts men and does not know how to interact with them.
Will Robin and Tony develop a relationship? Does Robin become a Christian? Should a Christian marry a non Christian? Read to find out and to understand the twist.
The book is well written and the characters are well developed. It held my attention from beginning to end. The author deals with the providence of God, forgiveness, material possessions, love, rape, faith, and hope. I liked the romance, the spiritual emphasis on coming to know Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior, and the description of how God can change a life once a person dedicates his life to the Lord.
Hallee Bridgeman graciously allowed me to read this book through bookfun.org in exchange for an honest opinion.
This is the story of a tender romance between two people scarred by horrific childhoods. Tony had a faith in God to repair the damage, but Robin only had faith in her own abilities to protect and provide for her sisters. The reader can’t help but pull for her as she fights exhaustion, financial worries and unsavory customers to ensure the happiness of her sisters in spite of the tremendous cost to herself. Will this Cinderella find some joy in her own life?
Tony is a wonderful character, loving and patient, having, with God’s grace, found success and used it to help others. Tony meets the prickly Robin and slowly teaches her about her value in his eyes and, more importantly, in God’s eyes. . Their story continues in the novella, GREATER THAN RUBIES.
The story is an emotional one. The abuse Tony and Robin suffered as children is heart-breaking. The conversion story, however, is beautiful and illustrates the miracle of God’s healing touch in the lives of his children--no matter how sorry one’s earthly parents might be, I received this book from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
Ms. Bridgeman’s Jewel Trilogy hooks you right from the start. “Sapphire Ice”, book one, introduces the reader to three sisters, now grown, but coming from a very rough childhood. By the end of the prologue I couldn’t put it down and each chapter had me wanting more. The writing is superb and gives the reader a clear visual picture of characters and settings. The story is full of suspense, reality, and faith without being overly “sweet”. The twists and turns in the story keep the reader interested chapter after chapter. The faith testimonies are heartwarming and reinforced my own faith. I was definitely not ready to say goodbye to the characters at the end of the book. “Greater Than Rubies” follows the storyline and continues the story of the first sister and her journey in her new faith and changed life, while helping the reader get to know the other two sisters. I can’t wait to read each of their stories! I received this book from bookfun.org in return for my honest opinion.
Sapphire Ice follows two main characters who had childhoods that would have crushed most people. Tony overcame poverty, abandonment, homelessness and his life as a young thief with the help of Christians who led him to the Lord. Tony now is highly successful and extremely wealthy. Robin overcame being raised by an addicted mother, abuse, rape, and the loss of her mother to murder. She worked hard and learned to take care of herself and her sisters. Shutting off her feelings was her method of survival. This book is a sweet story of Tony's love for Robin and how he is able to love her and lead her to a relationship with God. It is well written and I look forward to reading the other books in this series. I received this book as part of The Jewels Bundle 1: Sapphire Ice and Greater Than Rubies book set through bookfun.org in exchange for my honest review.
This bundle was a two-art beginning to a series that I am looking forward to finishing. Hallee Bridgeman brings to life two characters SO different from each other both in personalities and faith, that to watch their progress within the series is nothing less than a thrill!!!!!
Conflict, fear, heartache, triumph. It’s all here in a story that will have you crying and cheering in your reader’s chair! How do you get past your past? These novels show you how two families came together and headed towards their wonderful future, far beyond any horror from their pasts, to do just that.
Hallee Bridgeman graciously allowed me to read this books through bookfun.org. I am proud to post my review on this and yes, I recommend you start this series with me.
I’m off to hunt for Topaz Heat … 3rd book in the series!
I loved this book! It was my favorite kind of romance-one where you don't have to wait to the end for the couple to fall in love. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and liked each one's personality. The heroine's sister, Maxine, made me laugh. The hero (and what a hero he was!)was the kind of character you find yourself daydreaming about. Although misunderstood at the beginning because of the heroine's past, he was so patient and a gentleman. But along with the dreamy romance, was a story of God's power to save and change lives. The characters may have had sad beginnings but were able to overcome with God's help. Such a sweet story. I will definitely be reading the other books in the trilogy. This book was given to me by bookfun.org in exchange for my honest opinion.
I don't read romance. I found myself reading this book as a friend of the author. I was impressed with the depth of the characters and story. It is a sweet love story. The characters have rich history. If you are a romance reader this one is for you.
A Cinderella story only better. Better because a fairy godmother’s wand is not what transforms Robin, but the power of God working through her newfound faith and that of the man who loves her. Hallee Bridgeman writes for the glory of our God, unabashed and unashamed, yet her stories are not preachy or sermon-ish. Her tale of Robin Bartlett’s journey from poverty, abuse and hatred into the light of being loved and cherished by a wealthy yet godly man sparkles with intrigue, drama and most of all, romance. Romance to make you sigh at Robin’s fairy tale-come-true by the grace of God. Tony is a rare find. A self made man who pulled himself out of the grips of poverty and despair into a life of wealth. And yet he pours back his God-given gifts into the lives of others where need is great and hope non-existent. Tony is unlike most romantic heroes, unique and unexpected. He is not perfect and makes mistakes as we all do, and yet he allows his mistakes to be used by God in unimaginable ways. Robin’s life has been hard. Suffering and hardship is all she knows. And yet she embraces it willingly for love of her two sisters. Robin is stubborn and closed hearted, her inner strength an armor keeping everyone at arm’s length. And yet Tony finds the broken place in her heart that will serve as her escape route, opening herself to a love she could have never dreamed possible. The secondary characters give us a deeper and richer view of this poverty to riches story romance. I am anxious to read Maxi and Sarah’s stories next. I have hopes for Jacqui and Derrick and the others they will encounter along the way. Barry is my favorite with Hank a close second. I am itching to read the rest of the Jewel Trilogy to find out more about them all. I have not read any of Hallee Bridgeman’s work prior to these stories but am now a fan. What I love most about these stories is Hallee does not pay heed to the “writer’s rules” that can often stifle one’s own voice in an effort to conform to industry standards. Her inner soul is revealed in her writing leaving rules broken and battered amidst the very real life, love and faith poured into her books. Yes, it is possible to write compelling and inspiring romance that will enchant readers without regard to the “acceptable methods.” Thank you, Hallee. I received this book from bookfun.org in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Jewel Trilogy is the story of three half-sisters: Robin, Maxine and Sarah. These three girls had been raised in absolute fear and terror. I have been given the honor of reviewing “Sapphire Ice, Book One” which is Robin’s story; as well as the novella inspired by Book One “Greater Than Rubies”.
Robin Bartlett, now 28 years old, is working two jobs to support her two younger sisters. She is hardworking and determined to help her sisters to a better life. Robin’s dedication to her family is what caught the attention of Tony Viscolli on his first visit to Hank’s. Tony is a successful Boston businessman with a sad story of his own.
When Tony first met Robin, he knew he had met someone unlike anyone he had ever met before. Robin intrigues him as no other woman ever has. After meeting her sisters and discovering the sad story of their abusive childhoods he becomes more intrigued.
Robin has encased herself behind a wall of ice after all the years of abuse she had been subjected to. Tony understands how difficult it will be to break down the walls and get past Robin’s distrust and help her to move on. Tony’s hope is that with the help of God he can teach Robin to trust again and open herself to love.
Putting all this together you have a wonderful story that pulls you in and keeps you until the very last page.
I look forward to reading the next two books in this trilogy.
I received a copy of “Sapphire Ice” and “Greater Than Rubies” from Mrs. Bridgeman and The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.
This is the first book I have read of Hallee Bridgeman's but it will not be the last. I enjoy her way of proclaiming her faith without being too preachy. Sappire Ice and Greater than Rubies is a true "rags to riches story". Both literally but also in faith. Robin was so closed off to her emotions except anger due to her history of being raised in a drug infested neighborhood and rape. Robin and her two half sisters are each so very different.Robin has not had time or energy to devote to her faith. When she meets Tony, who is very active in the church, she at first dislikes him. But as she gets to know him she warms up to him. He comes from the same neighborhood as them and has worked his way up to where he is now through his faith. He encourages Robin to become closer to the church family and see what she is missing. By the end of the book they are getting married with their church family and friends. The twists and turns throughout make such a delightful read! I received this book through bookfun.org for my honest opinion
If you read the book description you may think it sounds like every other romance you’ve read, but it isn’t! I was hooked from the beginning and didn’t want to put it down! It’s a story of redemption and an unconditional love - God‘s. The writing was phenomenal, with great descriptions that made me feel like I was there. I loved the characters - they were real, like people you might know. I appreciated that they each had flaws and while they worked to live a life honoring God, they still made mistakes (as we all do) and saw that God loves them no matter what. It wasn’t a “preaching” book like I’ve heard some call Christian fiction, but still got the point across. This is the first book in the Jewel Trilogy series and I can’t wait to read the rest of them! If you enjoy clean, Christian romance, I highly recommend reading this book. I received this book through bookfun.org for my honest review, which I have given.
As soon as I started this book I was captivated. I was so glad it included the Novella Greater than Rubies as I did not want the story to end. Want to read the other two books in the trilogy. Well written and loved the characters. The main characters Robin and Tony had both endured terrible childhoods. Robin has two sisters and fought to be reunited with them after being in the system and the younger sister being adopted. Her love for her sisters was her drive in life. Working two jobs to put them both through school so they would not have to depend on a man for their livelihood. She was bitter not only towards men but also God. Tony found Faith at an early age and built an empire of wealth and used it as a ministry and helping others. The love Tony had for Robin was strong and he did not give up on making her his wife. Robin found Faith in God and overcame her fears. A wonderful story of love and Faith.
I received this book from bookfun.org for my honest opinion and review
The characters that Hallee has developed for this book are wonderful. They are very realistic and easy to understand. She does a fantastic job of building their pasts and then revealing them so that you are drawn deeper in. It is very easy to love them and root for everything to work out for them.
I love the fact that she has made Tony such a strong man of faith and that he is totally committed to God and doing what God wants him to.
I’m excited to be able to go on and read the rest of Robin and Tony’s story.
I received a free copy of this book from The Book Club Network for my honest opinion.
This was the first book that I was beta reading for Hallee! I couldn't believe how wonderful it was! I usually always judge a book on if I can't put it down or I want to stop my adult responsibilities to just read...and this was one of them! Her characters are wonderful and most are relatable to real life! There are some real life story lines and they are inspiring to see people come above their struggles.
I didn't think I could cry this much over a book. You'd think I was watching Beaches or The Color Purple. There were times I had to actually had to put the book. This would have been awesome read with a book group.
Sapphire and Ice by Hallee Bridgeman I really enjoyed the novella. Kept me interested all the way through the book. This is part one of a trilogy. Story is about three sisters who grew up in abuse and make it on their own through the help of the oldest sister Robin. due to all the abuse Robin wants nothing to do with men. Nor does she want anything to do with God. She is upset why would God put them through such abuse in their life. You might say she is as cold as ice. Robin gets her sisters back with her after being separated as kids. She is working two jobs to put them through school. so there is no time for guys in her life or does she want one. Till she meets Antonio " Tony " Viscolli. She looks at him like he is just a guy born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Tony takes her to see where he grew up and what kind of life he lived in. She then sees his life was no better then hers. He was helped by a church as a kid they helped him out and lead him to the Lord. He has worked his way to what he has. Tony buys out the place of business she works at and he wants to remove the bar. Robin doesn't understand this its a money maker and great tips for her. Tony wants to date her but she isn't interested. He keeps pursuing her. She finally goes with him. He is falling for her and she is for him. Only one problem she doesn't know the Lord. Or want any part of God. Then someone from her pass enters the picture. Will this person destroy what she has with Tony? Will she accept Christ? Great book get and find out how things turn out.
