========= Part of the Eyes on Nature series by KidsBooks, the book takes young readers through the oceans to explore the water world of whales and dolphins. Although the book does not indicate the intended age group, the vocabulary is occasionally rather sophisticated, making the book more suited to older readers, perhaps grades three and four.
Each topic spreads over a double page, with color photographs and illustrations. Brief facts and bits of information provide details for the topic. Young readers who are interested in learning about sea creatures are sure to enjoy this informative book.
This is a good nonfiction book about Whales and Dolphins. This book is full of information about Whales & Dolphins. This could serve as more of a picture book in lower grades for the words are harder for them to read.
Whales & Dolphins is a great nonfiction book to read with students as young as kindergarten through 3rd grade as part of a science unit. This book talks about the different characteristics and habits of dolphins and whales. It also discusses the habitats of whales and dolphins as well as how they interact with people. The book is beautifully illustrated which will appeal to the younger students. This book is part of a series called Eye on Nature, and there are many other animal books similar to Whales and Dolphins in the series. All of the books have detailed illustrations and excellent descriptions of the animals and their habitats, characteristics, behavior, etc.
A wonderful activity specific to the Whales and Dolphins book would be to have the students compare and contrast the two animals. The book does a great job of comparing the sizes of dolphins and whales which allows the reader to better understand the proportions and acts as a strong visual. There are many good descriptions that could help students compare and contrast what dolphins and whales eat, where they live, who they interact with, etc. After having the class compare and contrast dolphins and whales, half of the class could present information about dolphins and half of the class could present information about whales. Each member of the class could say a different fact about their sea animal. For older students, they could each research a specific type of dolphin or whale discussed in the book to learn more and then present their findings to the class.
This book can help students appreciate the animals that live in the ocean. It is filled with many interesting facts about whales and dolphins and their environment. The beautiful illustrations are an added bonus as well!
I absolutely love this book, not only does it talk about wales but it talks about dolphins to ! Whales are huge. I also like this book because I love dolphins.
