All have remarkable life stories that will entrance any child.

Beautifully produced illustrations include an introductory portrait or self-portrait of each artist, followed by reproductions of some of their greatest works. Both paintings and sculptures are represented, offering children an inspiring insight into the visual arts. The artworks―Michelangelo's colossal statue of David, van Gogh's self-portrait with bandaged ear, Velázquez's Las Meninas with little Infanta at center stage, Delacroix's dramatic Liberty Leading the People ―have all been chosen specifically to appeal to a young audience.

I've read this book approximately 100 times with my three kids. It contains interesting facts presented in an easy-for-kids-to-digest manner. If you'd like to inspire your kids to enjoy art, this book is a great primer.

Într-o prezentare modernă şi atractivă (atât grafic, cât şi la nivelul conţinutului), albumul lui Charlie Ayres Viaţa marilor artişti îşi propune să le ofere copiilor (şi tinerilor) sau poate şi celor prea puţin familiarizaţi cu acest domeniu, o scurtă, dar relevantă introducere în viaţa a douăzeci dintre cei mai importanţi artişti din ultimii şapte sute de ani, începând cu Giotto şi terminând cu Vincent van Gogh.

Fiecare artist beneficiază de patru pagini, cu cele mai sugestive ilustraţii, conţinând şi note explicative (câteva cuvinte despre istoria din spatele picturilor), precum şi o casetă „Ştiaţi că…?”, în care sunt oferite o serie de detalii în general mai puţin cunoscute, scoţând la lumină evenimente mai mult sau mai puţin picante din viaţa artiştilor prezentaţi.

Cartea nu ignoră nici mijloacele de informare on-line. Pentru fiecare artist, sunt oferite câteva surse de consultare on-line, site-uri pe care cititorii le pot accesa pentru a afla mai multe informaţii. Pentru că nu există spaţiu foarte mare de detaliere a anumitor aspecte, autorul dă câteva indicii, stârneşte curiozitatea şi, pentru a se asigura că cititorul, după ce închide cartea, nu închide şi subiectul, îi îndeamnă să acceseze nişte site-uri dedicate artistului respectiv şi unde poate să afle mai multe detalii şi să vadă mai mult din creaţia lui. Táto kniha je vlastne detská encyklopédia, ktorá predstavuje 20 najväčších európskych umelcov. A pretože je to určené pre deti, je to písané pomocou takých divných provizórnych príbehov, ktorých štýl mi zrovna veľmi nesadol. Navyše boli používané veľmi jednoduché vety. Ale nie je to nič, s čím by sa aj dospelý čitateľ nevedel zmieriť. Predsa len to má veľa obrázkov a mojich dvoch obľúbených maliarov, takže som spokojná.
