Kyle’s got a problem. He needs to pass college composition to graduate but he can’t get words on a page. And it’s landed him in a pilot class called Extra Credit for students in trouble -- when all he wants is to be left alone.
Lani’s got a problem too. She doesn't like making waves and it gets her stuck in that Extra Credit class. When she ends up partnered with Kyle things start getting complicated. Kyle is angry, restless, impatient; Lani is calm, introverted, bookish. But when these opposites attract how will they manage to stay “just partners”?
Extra Credit is a New Adult series that takes place on a college campus and puts three unlikely couples together to see what happens. Each novella is in dual point-of-view with a happy ending that can be read as a standalone, though they’re better together…! The series includes sexy times that are only meant for readers over 18.
Charlotte Penn Clark writes sweet-sexy New Adult and contemporary novellas that take romance seriously. As an avid romance reader, she used to spin love stories in her head until she finally started to write them down two years ago. She has studied English literature and taught college composition, but now she enjoys playing matchmaker to friends and enemies, geeks and nerds, jocks and bookworms.

This is the story of Kyle and Lani.
I really liked this book. The concept of the Extra Credit is nicely done and it really gave me something to think about. The author wrote a beautiful story about two totally different persons who meet, help each other to grow and change in the best way! During this process, they fall in love and it was fantastic! I was wrong when I thought that this will be a "light" and fast read. It was fast but not at all light! I am still thinking about everything that was said and done! The story is written by a dual POV and it's well done.
Lani prefers to stay in the shadow and not to attract any attention to herself. In my eyes, Lani is stronger than what she gives credit to herself for. She doesn't like waves but she realises that waves are needed some times! I really liked her! During this book, Lani bloomed and it was beautiful to read about it!
Kyle is a wave himself! He has a life plan and he tries his best to make it happen. I really love Kyle! He is honest and easy going! I even like his jealous side. It was really nice to see how he changed.
Their interactions were fantastic from the very beginning. There was honesty and attraction but everything happened to the right time. There was no insta-love and it was nice to see how their feelings grew for each other.
The end of the story was awesome! I love each of the characters in this book! Oh, and there was a fantastic epilogue! And I cannot wait to read the next book that will be about Matt and Annika.
I definitely recommend this book to everyone who loves to read a NA that is so much more than just love!
Thanks to New adult book club for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
What I love most about this book is that it is so relatable, I really enjoyed reading this book. This book is also my first by the author, I like the writing style and plot a lot, can't say the same for the characters. The book is written in a dual POV format. The plot is like nothing i've ever read, looking forward to the rest in the series.
Plot summary (with spoilers) The story is about Lani and Kyle both university students who got stuck in an extra credit class due to different circumstances. They became partners and helped each other. Then everything changed when they got attracted to each other and started going out. Then broke up when they had a misunderstanding and they both taught they were not good enough for each other, till an intervention from their friends and they got back together. Cool love story.
The Partnership by Charlotte Penn Clark is the first book in the Extra Credit series. It's also the first book I've read by Clark. I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
I liked the premise of the story but it dragged for me. Kyle Madison and Lilani "Lani" Ito met in an extra credit class that was designed to work on a specific problem for each individual. They were partnered for assistance and accountability. It was told in the dual POV and was set on a college campus.
Clark took us through the class, the self awareness journey and the growth as a result of the class mixed with the interactions of their fellow class mates. It almost read like a self help book versus a novel.
Clark set the stage for the series by introducing all couples: Kyle and Lani, Matt and Annika, and Noah and Holly. It appears Matt and Annika are up next in The Do-Over.
The Partnership is such a cute book! It's not your typical New Adult angsty, drama-filled story, so if that's what your looking for you might want to give this one a pass. But if you want a book that's fun, flirty, and light-hearted, with just a bit of conflict, then snatch this one right up- you won't be sorry!
Kyle and Lani are complete opposites who are partnered up in one of their college classes. They are both so endearing! He's brash, cocky, and sarcastic. She's quiet, caring, and reserved. I loved the chemistry between these 2, and how good they were for each other! Kyle's so protective of Lani right from the start, he was just so sweet and swoony, a complete delight. Lani is a little overwhelmed by all that is Kyle, but girlfriend can't help help falling for his sweet, swoony self.
Lani and Kyle each have some issues that need working through, and it seems this "Extra Credit" class came along at the perfect time for them. I really enjoyed seeing the changes these two went through over the course of this book- how they each grew and really came into their own. They learned a lot about themselves and each other, and it was so much fun to go on this journey with them.
The Partnership is the first book in Charlotte Penn Clark’s Extra Credit series, and after reading and enjoying some of the author’s other work I was curious to see what this series would bring us.
In many ways, The Partnership is like my other Charlotte Penn Clark reads. It was quick and enjoyable, but it didn’t quite have the depth I usually enjoy in my novels. It’s fun if you’re looking for something you can quickly read through, something to pass a wee bit of time, but it doesn’t quite have the complexity I usually prefer in my books. Of course, this is a personal preference – for many, this book will be exactly what they’re looking for.
With The Partnership, we’re introduced to many characters who will go on to make up the future books in the Extra Credit series. I really did enjoy getting to know these other characters, and I am curious about their stories. When it comes to the main characters in The Partnership, I found myself rather enjoying the romance between the two of them. They were both such distinctive characters, and I enjoyed watching the way they helped each other developed. I would have liked to go a bit deeper into the past of both of the characters, especially with how family history and life played a vital role for both of them, but as a whole they were great together and I had fun with them.
Without a doubt, this is a fun read for anyone looking for a quick and enjoyable romance.

"It wasn't until the morning after my uneventful shift, when I wake up, dazed and tense and frustrated as hell, that I realize I'm getting obsessed with that girl, my partner, and this thing is running me ragged"
The Partnership (Extra Credit Series book 1) by Charlotte Penn Clark is a sweet story about two totally different people: Kyle, a campus EMT/Bio major who is impatient, anxious and fond of curse words and Lani, a yoga instructor/dance student who is bookish, calm and fond of big words. Written in a dual point of view, they are in a pilot program called Extra Credit, a program that is required for troubled students to get out of their situations with either extra credit or get excused from a disciplinary problem. Kyle needs to pass College Composition but is having a hard time putting pen to paper and Lani is there because she doesn't like making waves.
They end up partners in the second day of class. Lani helps him write the paper that he needs for College Comp so he can graduate and he helps her open up, stand up for herself and make the waves that she is so afraid of making. They end up falling for each other. But there is a major hurdle to overcome...Kyle is in the ROTC and will be leaving in a few short weeks when he graduates, leaving Lani on her own. This is a happily ever after story with a few sex scenes, none really over the top or explicit.
WOW! Just finished the book not two minutes ago. I have to digest before I put it down on paper.
I'll start with the obvious aspects of the book:
Author: Clark Charlotte - This is my first book of hers, I've had the pleasure to read. I found it free on amazon not to long ago, in fact as of today it still free. If I were you I would go grab it before she changes her mind.
Narrative: Fist person with Lani and Kyle POV. I really enjoy stories that have the MMC POV as well as the MFC. Give me the chance to read how the male character feels and sees things through his eyes.
The ending to Kyle and Lani story was perfect! However this book is part of a series, I do believe this can be a stand alone story. The second book is about one of the other couples introduced in this book. I'm sure it will mention Kyle and Lani some but the focus is not on them.
The story setting is about 6 collage students in NY that have to take a writing class together. They are paired off and Lani gets stuck with Kyle.
He has issues and she has issues. His are mostly anger and hers are more internal more mental. As the book describes her as "a push over".
At first I saw Kyle as a douche bag, he has a smart mouth, loud and his cranky. Then you have Lani, sweet quite and shy. Totally opposite attract here. She has a way to calm him and have him think rational before he blows up and gets into more issues. He has a way of growing on her and standing up for herself. Kyle had me laughing with his antics, his frustration and his language! The author does a great job describing the surrounding as well as what's happening that I was able to see everything in my mind.
I can't find anything remotely negative to say about this story. Loved the cover, Loved the characters, Loved the beginning, middle and ending to this story!!! Also Loved the editing that was done, very professional!!
Can't wait to get my hands on #2! Thank you Charlotte Penn Clark for the great free story and opportunity to read it! Also will mention that there are sections for mature readers, their collage kids what do you expect, hormones are raging at that time. However the sections were very decently done.
I was given this book in exchange for a review. Well what can I say except that I enjoyed it a lot (I finished it in one sitting)! I connected with the characters and it wasn't the usually predictable trope. The plot is a dual narrative (which I love) of Lani and Kyle, both put together in this extra credit class for things they did and problems they need to face up to. The both of them are opposites but come together to help each other figure out their problems and end up falling for each other. The deeper they go the more questions arise about their relationship, where will it go, what will happen, are they serious? How can they be together when they are so opposite?
There was more in this story e.g. the main female character speaking about her ethnicity and how she is stereotyped by her friends.. the author didn't really expand on this which I would've liked or the aspect that she has an autistic brother... or how the main male lead deals with the death of his mother at a young age.. but still it was highly entertaining and I couldn't put it down.
It was not a quick read for sure, but I enjoyed the way the author built up the foundation of Lani and Kyle's friendship. I also enjoyed the secondary characters and how they too helped Lani and Kyle with their issues and this formed a greater part of the problem Lani and Kyle were both dealing with. I honestly thought Kyle would choose a completely different profession and finally be comfortable with what he actually wanted, but how it ended made sense since he chose the field he already had experience in. I loved the way Lani's character developed from shy and meek, from her reluctance to participate to even her clothes, to confident and uninhibited in what she went after.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good friends to more romance as well as exploring characters and their issues to a greater depth.
Kyle is a college senior who is failing English Composition. Lani is junior, a dancer who is a pushover. Lani is in trouble for covering for a friend. Kyle and Lani both end up in a special class to make up for their transgressions- Extra Credit. The class ends up being more of an examination of how they ended up there and utilizes partnerships for the semester to help each other with their issues. Kyle and Lani are partnered up. Kyle needs help getting words on paper, Lani needs to learn to stand up for herself. As Kyle and Lani help one another the tension between them grows until their academic partnership is more like a partnership with benefits. As the end of the year approaches for Kyle and Lani, they have to make decisions about where their short but intense partnership will take them.
Sexy, sweet and fun, The Partnership is a realistic new adult romance with characters that I could easily relate to. With the point of view switching between Lani and Kyle, I was able to see what was going on inside each of their heads. I love seeing when the guy is just as unsure about a relationship as the girl. Lani and Kyle both had a great energy that pulled them towards one another for a passionate romance. The sexy times were great, not over-explained but genuine and true to a college experience. In addition to the sex and romance, Kyle and Lani's story is about growth, change and entering adulthood. One of my favorite characters was the Extra Credit teacher, Marjorie who tells the class: "Trust...You should all be working on trust-when to give it and when to withhold it." I think we all should have taken Marjorie's class in college. I would love to continue this series and see where the rest of the relationships in the Extra Credit class go and find out more of Marjorie's advice. Overall, The Partnership is a fast-paced, sexy, New-Adult read.

The Partnership (Extra Credit, Book 1) by Charlotte Penn Clark is a standalone coming of age college romance.
The books start out with the reader meeting Kyle a college senior who can't seem to pass English comp and Lani who is stuck in the course after hanging out with the wrong people. Kyle is instantly attracted to Lani "Golden Eye" and partners up with her for assignment. There relationship slowly grows from friends to boyfriend/girlfriend. Kyle is stubborn, hot headed with good intentions. Lani is shy, dancer, great writer who learns not to get pushed around. The chemistry flowed naturally between Lani and Kyle and made the story seem realistic.
This book is told from dual point of views and has a lot more depth then just an average college romance. Lani and Kyle in the beginning had their issues, when they became partners they worked together to deal with them. Kyle and Lani showed growth at the end of the story. The author did a good job of making the interested in the secondary characters and what to learn more about them. I enjoyed the story between Matt and Annika. I was curious to know what happened between the two and look forward to reading their story.
This was my first book by the author and I was good look forward to reading more books.

The Partnership by Charlotte Penn is witty as hell, I was reading like a normal reader would and suddenly would start chuckling, in the middle of the night, on an airplane! So yeah... The story revolves around people seeing each other for who they are, a group of students, bonding over the fact that they have to take an additional class to either better their scores or as a "semester long detention", whom they might not have gotten to know in any other circumstances. How the layers come off and you see people for who they are and not judge and make assumptions about them based on how and when and where you see them. This way you get to know them better, build a stronger connection which ultimately leads you to overcome all kinds of barriers that may stand in between the said people. Our heroine is sensitive and lovable student, who has to learn to be confident in herself and her abilities. Whereas our hero, even though sure of himself, has to learn to reach out and say what he needs to say, both on paper and off! They both cross paths, and in an effort to help each other overcome their struggles, find love and a relationship worth fighting for. They also make some great friends in the process, every single one of them a different person with their own quirks. These friends, in fact, are so lovable that I can't wait for their books to be out. If you are looking for a quick, witty, a lil bit angsty ride, this book is definitely for you. I was generously provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Happy Reading people

Lani and Kyle are both signed up for a pilot class for students who are in trouble called Extra Credit. Kyle is angry and restless and needs to pass a composition class or be wont graduate. Lani does not like to make waves and has been put in the class even though she did nothing wrong.
Lani is the opposite of Kyle, she is introverted and bookish. But as they say… opposites attract.
This is a contemporary college romance. It's about Kyle and Lani finding each other and themselves so they grow into more confident and happy people.
I found this to be a cute 'feel good' book. I loved how Kyle and Lani balance each other as work to help each other, but also encouraging them not to rely on each other on the journey. I would say it met my expectations, it was a good read.
The Partnership is a part of a new adult series called 'Extra Credit'. I would like to read The Do-Over which is about other people in their Extra Credit class.
I would recommend this to people who like reading new adult novels and self discovery and romance books.
Quick Summary: What a super cute love story! I found this romance to be very engaging. The protagonists in story one had great chemistry. It was definitely an opposites attract matchup.
What I Liked: I really loved the Extra Credit class concept. The female students in the class had spice and sass, and the guys were so sweet. The stories of each partner set grabbed my attention.
What I Did Not Like: While conflict existed in the story, it was pretty mild. The couple in this book faced a unique challenge, but in the end it proved to be so easily dealt with and then it was just over. I felt like there could have been more.

Charlotte Penn Clark is a new author to me, and I really enjoyed The Partnership, the 1st installment in the Extra Credit series. From the start, her writing really engages you in the lead characters, and story development, so expertly, that leaves you gliding through the pages for more. The two main characters, Kyle and Lani, come from different worlds, brought together in a Extra Credit Class at University for totally different reasons. More than the usual boy and girl meet, the author takes you on their journey, where they become a better person for knowing each other, through helping each other break through the issues they face. This underlying bond brings friendship, then love and the possibility of a future. All while maintaining the key characteristics that drew us to them in the first place, which I think is very important. I can't wait to read the next installment.
This was a nice story about college love that delved into the personalities and insecurities of a group of college students taking a remedial "extra credit" class to improve their grades or wipe out disciplinary actions. This first book in the series focuses on ROTC senior Kyle, an EMT who is outwardly outgoing, but emotionally closed off and has some underlying anger issues, and Lani, a dancer who refuses to be the center of attention or "make any waves". He's reactionary and she's calm. These two opposite personalities become partners in the extra credit class. But the exercise brings them closer than just partners. The story is based on whether they can each help their partner to see why the needed the class and what their hang-ups truly are. Good story with what should be a HEA...but who knows what's to come in the future? There are several books in this series.
The Partnership by Charlotte Penn Clark is a great YA/NA romance. Ms. Clark has given us a book that is well-written. It is in alternating first-person point of view format, not my favorite, but the story made up for it. The characters in the story are outstanding and make this a fun read. Kyle hates that he's being sent to the Extra Credit program. Lani is embarrassed that she is forced into Extra Credit for something she didn't do. Lani and Kyle's story is loaded with drama, angst, humor and sizzle. I enjoyed reading The Partnership. The Partnership is book 1 of the Extra Credit Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from a third party. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a new author for me and I am really glad I took a chance. The story was not your average jock guy, geek girl, there was a lot more to it than that. Feelings and emotions were really well explored in this book and the way in which childhood/teenage trials can really change the path of your life and how you experience love was honestly explored. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be seeking out more books by this author.
This is the first book I have read from this author and I liked it. This was a cute sweet fast read. I enjoyed the story line and loved the characters in the book. Can't wait to read more from this series. If you are looking for a quick, witty, a lil bit angsty ride I recommend reading this story. I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review.
Kyle has to pass a class before he can graduate. So they put him in extra credit class when he gets partnered up with Laney. Will they keep it just as partners or will they strike a relationship?
I read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book.! I thought the chemistry between the characters was great and can't wait for the rest of the series!
I enjoyed reading this book. It's part of series. I look forward to reading book #2. It's very entertaining that I finished it in one day. Great author.
Thank you to Victory Editing and NetGalley for providing me with a copy in return for an honest review.
The concept of this trilogy: Each book will focus on one couple who are forced to take the Extra Credit class in college. All three, to my understanding, occur around the same time. Each can be read as a standalone, though.
I was in mood for a good NA Romance and I’ve read most of the good ones already out, therefore I went onto NetGalley and this drew me in immediately. It didn’t take long for me to get completely sucked in. I finished it in one sitting. It was that good.
I liked just about everything, but here’s a concise list:
--There wasn’t too much sex. I like NA books because they occur in college. I love college romance. The only thing? Most of the times I tend to skim through the sex scenes, and there are quite a few. But not in this case. It was there, but appropriate amounts. It’s only descriptive once, so you can concentrate on the story. --Not the usual pairing. If you’re bored of the usual jock-and-nerd or guy-with-tragic-past-and-girl or vice versa etc, this is what you’re looking for. All Kyle wants is to graduate and join the Army. ----Lani is a dancer, kind of a doormat and doesn’t like attention. The other two pairings (for the next books) are different too, from what I understood. --POC representation. Lani is Hawai’ian. I’ve never read about a Hawai’ian before. She also spoke about the first time she’s faced discrimination and how it is. --I learnt how to spell Hawai’i right. I honestly didn’t know Hawaii was wrong. I like titbits of general knowledge in books. --Kyle is huge and tough looking, but a cinnamon roll at heart. He doesn’t mind that Lani yells at him or doesn’t do what he says on the way to standing up to herself. In fact, he’s proud that she’s finally learning to say no. He’s also really protective of Lani, right from the start, and it’s so cute. --The ending. Almost all the books end with the couple coming back together after a fight and staying together forever. The characters’ future plans fit. But here, it isn’t like that. The future plans don’t fit perfectly. I love that they are not putting their dreams off. They’re working around and through it. That is reality. --Extra Credit class. I’ve never heard of such a class, but it’s a really good concept and I wish it was there is all colleges and universities. The class pairs up students and they help each other overcome their fears and difficulties. It helps in practical life. I also liked the teacher/professor. She actually advises and helps. Overall, it is a sweet, fluffy, romantic book which I totally recommend. If you liked Smut by Karina Halle, you will definitely like this. And I don’t say this lightly because Smut is one of my favourite NA Romance books.
I can’t wait for the next two books, and this book has just been published!
Thanks to Netgalley and Victory Editing for my ARC in exchange for honest review.
Extra class is for those who needs to make a credit or in trouble. Lani and Kyle is in same extra credit class and from the first class Kyle is memorized by Lani’s eyes. Kyle really hates to write and Lani hates attention where they needed to pair up. Teacher gives unusual group assignment where they need to find what each other needs help and help them through writing. Kyle is loud mouth and not afraid to make waves where as Lani hates attention drawn to her and loves to write. When they are paired up together, both are trying to find what they need to improve on. Lani is willing to help Kyle but Lani is afraid to open up to him. They were working along each other and they are finding ways to help each other and it becomes more than just friendship and they are not sure how to handle their attraction. All their friends from class is pairing up like Kyle and Lani and they seem to get along as the semester goes. As the time flies, Kyle is set on joining the army and he want to spend more time with Lani but it seems like the end for both. Lani doesn’t know how to handle the relationship and she is running away again. Will they find their happiness and love at the school??
I did like the story more than i thought I would. It was great storyline between Kyle and Lani and I can’t wait to read about other classmates. I did enjoy reading this book and i did like both characters.
The Partnership by Charlotte Penn Clark was a charming, cute new adult romance.
The university has started a pilot program for students who have been in academic or behavior trouble. This program gives them the opportunity to earn extra credit and learn how to manage their problems through thought provoking exercises.
Kyle and Lani are complete opposites that are paired together in this class. Through the assigned exercises and new friendship, they both help one another face the real root of their problems that landed them in this class.
A sweet relationship develops without sex being on the table. They are truly getting to know one another as individuals. They are both learning about each other as well as themselves.
The entire class seems to forming these kind of connections through these paired partnerships. They are also finding friends that are outside of their social circles.
I enjoyed this book and hope there is more to come.
*I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinion stated are solely my own and no one else's*
This was a sweet, cute read and I enjoyed it. The characters were engaging and I liked the tension slowly simmering between them. Lani always ran away when things started to get interesting which got annoying. I liked Kyle; Lani presence ties him in knots - he's affected by her and isn't afraid to ride out the wave.
This was my first book by Charlotte Penn Clark and I'm happy I came across this book. I liked the build up of the relationship between Kyle and Lani. I liked how both characters helped each other out and we got to see them change and grow. I am looking forward to reading the next book.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
Charlotte Penn Clark has written a sweet story with The Partnership. I really loved the Extra Credit class concept and the differences with Kyle and Lani were great. I really enjoyed this one.
This is a first book I’ve read from this author, and I have to admit, I was entertained, and I’ve actually seen a “Kyle and Lani” in classes before. Both characters take on an extra credit class, and if two people are any different than these two, they would have to be from other planets. Kyle and Lani each just wants to work alone, and when they are partnered up, sparks fly.
Normally I don’t like first person narratives, but the author jumps between the two characters POV in each chapter so you get both Kyle’s and Lani’s voices. I think that Kyle acts a bit like he’s in high school in a detention rather than being in a college course at times. I did enjoy the secondary characters also and this is a nice, light hearted read perfect for a rainy day. Reviewed by Cyrene
