Presenting wildlife in a fresh and exciting way, DK's classic Look Closer series awaits a new generation. The four revised and updated titles in this beloved series use a combination of simple text and close-up photography to bring readers face-to-face with nature.
This fun non-fiction book about sea creatures will be great to use for a sea lesson, sea animals lesson, or even to introduce the genre of non-fiction texts to students. Teachers can teach about the table of contents, glossary, index, as well as diagrams and labels that are usually present in non-fiction books. This would be cool to have anyway for kids who love sea life. I think this book can be used at any elementary grade level!
Self read for third grade. Perhaps a little easy of a read I feel like they could have expanded on some things. Some students want to know as many details as possible.
Sea creatures the book is formatted so that the images of the critters take up half the page spread and the text surrounds it. instead of reading in a straight line from left to write the text is positioned according to the image, which is playful and active to read.
Because clams freak me out: "Did you know... sometime a blue clam makes a pearl. It can grow to be as big as a golf ball!"
But how?!
this book would be useful to use if a class were going to the aquarium. The school I work in takes kids during the summer camps to the Shedd Aquarium. It would be a good idea to read about some of the interesting critters beforehand.
