Lizzie is separated from Alex and Malcolm takes care of her. Among the horrors of war Lizzie has to contend with a love triangle, everone trying to control her, pregnancy and birth and being stocked by a psychopath.

This the second in the Freedom Fighters Trilogy and it is an amazing book. The characters are so strong in their convictions and they have a great deal of personal strengths, although they are not perfect by any means. The writer takes us along for an emotional rollercoaster as the characters deal with their feeling, pasts and the many obstacles they face. Lizzie continues to grow up and in challenged in many ways. The storyline flows smoothly filled with action, violence, sexual scenes, emotional conflicts, mystery, suspense and betrayal. The author does a great job with the narrative, allowing the reader to really feel like they are involved in the character’s lives. Just a note, it ends in a cliff hanger so be prepared for that. I read the first two books back to back as I could not put them down. My only complaint is that I have to wait for the final book in this wonderful series.

WOW! Nikki Landis is on a roll! Midnight Surrender (Freedom Fighters Book #2) is a phenomenal follow up to Refugee Road! This book has quite a few twists in it as Alec tries to keep Lizzie and their son Benjamin safe from the militia. Is putting Lizzie in the hands of the man who loves her as much as he the safe choice? The war rages on, and there are many sacrifices. In this post-apocalyptic world, can anyone be trusted? Alliances are betrayed, and trusts are tested to the extreme. The ending made me scream! Book 3 needs to come soon!

War is brutal. No one escapes unscathed. Lizzie is taken by the psycho Darren. When she is saved, Alex becomes the leader of the now named Freedom Fighters. But with being the leader brings risk to him and Lizzie and their newborn son. Through it all Malcolm is always there for her, keeping her safe. On the numerous times Alex has to leave until she, Malcolm, and the baby have to stay in a secure space for 6 months. She realizes she has always loved Malcolm and they become lovers, but Alex returns, always for a short time and leaves. When she begs him to forget the war and stay with her he leaves. He is keeping a secret from her, one about the danger to her. He has set up a place for she, Malcolm and the baby to be safe, but a traitor has been in their midst for months. The same person who tried to kill her at the militia base has been betraying the Freedom Fighters. Now more than ever Alec’s life is in danger. She has two men she loves more than her life and she can’t imagine being without either. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review

That ending! What the heck is that ending? I don't have words...for the feelings...that ending made me feel. That said DO NOT SKIP to the END and read it first. Seriously DON'T!!
Throughout this book my romance junkie heart would soar and at other times it would plummet. And though I would say that love does happen in this story...Often. It really does go wrong in a few different ways. I won't give any spoilers (I know the story continues) but I'm reeling in thought and I'm left a little lost. Between Lizzie, Alec & Mal I can't even try to figure out what's going to happen, let alone try to pick a favorite character. I'm so invested in these characters I've got to read Crimson Dawn like ASAP!!

My rating 4.47 stars.

I'm in a barrel and it's rolling down on a wedge and I have my head circling. I loved the book, and it's better than the previous one in the series. The characters are awesome and the romantic story is at it best. So much going on in the book. I had my heart sunk on many pages. The Author is amazing with the choice of her words and how Author ended the book. The perfect ending for an author and the worst ending for a reader.

Hats off to the Author for a perfect ending and better book than the previous one.

Really hard hitting

This is now book two in the “Freedom Fighters” series and is just as dark, just as filled with graphic violence.

One thing I can’t deny is that it is a page turner. I just ended up flipping through pages, even when it became uncomfortable. Having read the first book, I had a better idea of what to expect, yet some scenes were still shocking and brutal, especially as most consider this a “romance”.

I also questioned the reactions of some of the characters at every turn. Alex was never truly honest with Lizzie, which led her to doubt him greatly. Lizzie makes many questionable decisions, partly because of this, partly because of her weakness of character in general.

Despite all this, mind, the majority of readers seemed to enjoy this. I can’t deny being pulled along as the story progressed, and annoyingly it means that I’m invested enough in the story arc that I want to read the next, the third book. Yet I still wish that all of these books came with the necessary warnings.

Final rating: ★★★★☆ – Really liked

Midnight Surrender by Nikki Landis is the phenomenal continuation of the Freedom Fighters series…. This is the ongoing saga of Lizzie and Alec. Now, he is determined to keep Lizzie safe at all costs….and those costs can be very dear. He has to make so hard choices…choices that could drive a wedge between them. Meanwhile, he’s entrusted her safety and his son’s to Mal!!!! This book has a MAJOR cliffhanger….dunno if I can wait for this ending of the trilogy!!!

Nikki Landis is absolutely FLAWLESS in creating believable characters, situations, feelings, and emotions…everything is just SPOT-ON!!!! I had to stay up and finish this story!!!!! Couldn’t put it down!!!

If you've read book one, "Refugee Road," then you have a basis for what's going on. If you haven't, then back up and start there because this is one you need to read in order. "Midnight Surrender," book two of Nikki Landis' "Freedom Fighters" series took me on such an emotional rollercoaster ride. One minute my heart plummets from the situation and the next I was soaring as high as the characters in this storyline. Stay within the storyline because, by the time you get to the end, all the precise work this author has laid out will come to an epic ending that, if you're like me, will absolutely blow your mind and leave you wondering at the same time. I'm so vested in this series wondering where she will take me next. I love it!!

This is book two in the Freedom Fighters series. Lizzie, Malcolm and Alec's story continues. Their fight is a constant uphill battle but nothing worth having is ever easy. How much determination and stubbornness do these characters have? Well, they will each need each and every ounce. This book contains more twists and turns for our roller coaster ride but it is all worth it. Looking forward to reading the next book, great read. Enjoy!

This second story packed quite a punch for me emotionally. I found it to be more war-focused than romance-focused although there was plenty of love regardless.

I appreciated the steamy scenes.
