In revising this best seller, we have focused on our users' needs. Not surprisingly, we found that the book was badly in need of a major update in terms of information and data. We also found that instructors wanted more applied issues or mini-cases on appropriate environmental issues. These provide real world examples that clarify the theory and bring in critical thinking. Instructors also wanted more technical examples and more mathematical modeling, with appropriate graphics.
As an aid to problem solving they also requested more practical problems in the chapter-end material to augment the existing discussion questions. This revision provides all of the above and in an accessible format that begins with the simple Supply and Demand model. The level of complexity builds from this simple base, allowing for different levels of courses to use the book.
Field and Field's Environmental Economics: An Introduction was essential to my understanding of environmental economics. The book perfectly complements lecture material and is an invaluable resource for anyone exploring how environmental policies can be effectively integrated into market systems.
My professor suggested this to me at the beginning of my Econ course when I told him I had difficulty following the class. It turned out to be a very essential book in shaping my academic year studying Econ, highly recommended!
