Addictive escapism ... much like eating cotton candy or watching sit-com reruns for hours ... at the last page I felt bloated, dizzy, and on the downhill slide of a sugar crash.

"Hyperion will return in . . . . "

It's weird because they set this book up to feel like the first arc of some grand story, but I don't think the grand story is there yet. That is, it doesn't feel like it was planned, right?

This series turned out to be just a set-up for another series that turned out to be just a set-up.

Brilliant handling of a Marvel take on a D.C. universe seen somewhat through a WATCHMEN type lens of "realism." So excellent one wonders why Staczynski was not seen as deserving a better artist than Dan Jurgens for the "Hyperion" part of the book! (No offense Mr. Jurgens!) And this contrast between the first part of the book and the "Hyperion" part is quite interesting, as Gary Frank's flawless art takes Straczynski's excellent writing and pushes it into the realm of genius, and then we have Jurgen's second rate art taking the writing and making it seem, well, second rate. Bottom line is, "Hyperion" deserved a much better artist, and since they did not get one it should not have been included in the collection as it just sets up a really LAME finish to an exciting read! My 4 star rating is only for the Supreme Power part of the book.

The first half of this book continues the amazing quality of the first volume. Then we have a total shift of artists, which I couldn't stomach. And the formation of a team. I still haven't read the second half of the book, so maybe its better than I'm giving it credit for on the surface. I hope so.

While the first half of this book, Supreme Power #13-18, is superb, like the previous volume, the second half, the Hyperion mini-series, is a bit crap and bit deviation from the Supreme Power story. A bit sad that.

The first half was spot on and ended the MAX series in an interesting way offering many possibilities for the next chapter. It was well written and well drawn, something I can't say about the latter half of this book. Anyway, the first part of the book - and Gary Frank - saved the day!

See review for volume 1. A blah finish to a potentially quite good tale. Oh well.
