Paddington #11.3

Медвежонок Паддингтон и фруктовая радуга (Малышам о Паддингтоне)

Rate this book

It's a shame there is no cover available for this book because there are some great illustrations by David McKee! This book is based on Paddington Bear and is about his day out with a family who are heading to the sea side. When they arrive at the sea side it begins to rain and so they are forced to go inside a cafe` where they can get dry and eat some ice cream. When they get inside there are lots of pictures on the wall of the types of ice creams you can eat. Paddington chooses the biggest, most colourful ice cream called the Knickerbocker Glory. Mr Brown will only let Paddington have this ice cream if he can pronounce Knickerbocker glory correctly. Paddington struggles to do this and comes up with lots of different names for the ice cream. Finally he gets it right and is given the Knickerbocker Glory ice cream which he so desperately wanted. When they look through the window they can see a big colourful rainbow in the sky. Paddington realises the rainbow looks like his ice cream (colourful and big). The family urge Paddington to make a wish on the rainbow before it disappears then they all head outside on to the beach where the sun is now shining.

I like how this book is about Paddington Bear and the journey he goes on with this family. There are many Paddington books out there such as 'Paddington abroad' and Paddington helps out' (to name a few). I think the book has a level of humour about it as Paddington appears to be new to the sea side and thinks the wind has blown somebody's hair off of their head when in actual fact they are just bald. They way he pronounces Knickerbocker Glory is also funny and i think this would make children laugh.

I think i would recommend this book to Key stage 1 because it has lovely pictures and simple text. Through guided reading or have it read aloud i think this book would make a good choice/option.

Mr and Mrs Brown, their children Jonathan and Judy and Mrs Bird take Paddington to the seaside for a treat. Unfortunately when they arrive it is raining very hard and a strong wind is blowing.

They brave a visit to the beach where the wind blows a man's wig off and Paddington comments, 'That man's hair has blown away' and fastens his duffle coat up round his face to protect his whiskers from the wind as he doesn't want them to blow away.

They decide to go in a café to escape the bad weather and, after some amusement over Paddington trying to say the words, Mr Brown buys Paddington a Tutti-Fruttie Sundae. At that point a rainbow appears in the sky and Paddington likens it to his ice cream sundae and Jonathan tells him to make a wish before the rainbow disappears. Expecting him to wish that they can go and play on the beach, Paddington surprises them with his wish for ...

Not my favourite Paddington book as it lacks the mild peril and adventure that I really enjoy. That being said, it’s still very cute and now I can’t wait to eat my first ever ice cream.

I have loved this book since I was a young child. Paddington is a very lovable bear who lives with the Brown family. One day, he went with the family to the seashore. Paddington has a hard time understanding the norms of humans, commenting that the man's hair had blow away, when in fact he was just bald. When they get to the shore and realize it's raining, Mr. Brown takes them into an ice cream shop. Paddington sees a picture on the wall of a Knickerbocker Glory, a large rainbow colored bowl filled with many kinds of ice cream and what looks like a cookie on top. Mr. Brown offers to buy one of them for Paddington if he can say the name. Paddington has a hard time and can't get the consonants in the right order. Finally he says it and the waitress, or nurse as Paddington calls her, brings him one. The sun comes out and a rainbow appears. Judy the sister says Paddington should make a wish on the rainbow, as it looks just like his rainbow colored ice cream treat. Paddington wishes for a Knickerbocker Rainbow every day of the week.

I find this book amusing. Paddington is such a cute little bear who has a few issues integrating in human society. I think this book could show students how people/animals are different and how we all can be sympathetic to those differences.

One me my favourite books as a child, I remember my dad reading it to me at bedtime. Decided to pick it up again as I'm home for Christmas and I must say it's still quite a good litte story, even if it didn't take as long to read!

I just reread this today upon hearing the news of Michael Bond's passing. I loved it so much as a child and I was so happy to see Paddington get his trip to the beach.
