I have to say that I found this volume a bit slower than the others. Anyway, the story is still very interesting and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next.
Mostly story, but I felt like nothing really happened. It's a lot of information to take in in one volume. Also, "Section 13" ? They could've chosen so many more different names, but they went with this... WHY.
The art work is excellent. The story behind the BLUE NIGHT is further explored. The Ex-Wires and Lightning are deeply involved in learning more about True Cross Academy. Rin and Yukio are struggling to understand their relationship as well as their future paths.
A very exciting volume delving into the motivations of the Baal and the history surrounding the conception of Rin and Yukio. I always love a volume where Mephisto is doing the full Machiavelli and here he was at his best, doling out pieces of the mystery to Renji and Lightning. I am wondering what in the world is going on with Shiemi and what more will come to light.
Reveal after reveal in this series is propelling the plot forward, here we finally learn more about the Illuminati's motivations and why the Okumura brothers are so important to their plans. I hate that I am almost caught up on the series, which is a good sign of the quality throughout!
Interesting that so much of the focus seems to have shifted onto Yukio. But I still massively enjoy all of the investigation plot and I am invested. I just think that it highlights what I preciously said - that series needs to give a bit more growth to Rin.
The whole story behind Section 13 and this detective work is very addictive. Curse these manga… but I’m loving it! Izumo Kamiki is my birthday twin… !!
As much as I appreciate the amount of plot finally achieved in this volume, it resulted in the majority of it being an info dump basically. Given how it was learned it would probably be difficult to separate it but having it interspersed through previous volumes would have been great.
WOW SO MUCH HAPPENED IN THIS ONE. At the end the little bonus chapter is all about how actors get together to record the speaking parts of an anime so that was super cool to see
True Cross has a new student – Ambrosius Faust. But he’s actually Amaimon, passing himself off as Johann Faust’s nephew. What’s up with that? To Rin’s dismay, he claims Shiemi is his bride, but she quickly sets him straight on that count. Meanwhile, Lightning and Suguro have been investigating in the monastery where Rin and Yukio were raised. Afterward, Lightning storms into Mephisto’s bath to confront him an unofficial contract of Morinath, which is completely against order rules. Mephisto tells him the location of the treasure he seeks, and advises he go at night, and to “place the key in the hand.” Off Lightning and Suguro go!
Shiemi has been wrestling with whether or not to take the exorcist exam, conflicted between her desire to please and her wishes for the future. Having made her decision, she approaches her mother, who asks that Shiemi hear her out before she makes a final decision.
Lightning and Suguro find themselves beneath the monastery, in the place that was the predecessor of the cram school. This place was dismantled sixteen years before, because it was ground zero on the Blue Night! They talk to one another about their backgrounds, and then they run into an unexpected blast from the past. When Lightning accuses the newcomer of signing a contract or Morinath, he tells them where to find the Section 13 they seek. Lightning and Suguro find the ruins of what was once the cram school, as well as Section 13. It seems as though someone was experimenting with finding elixirs for immortality! Worse than that, they were delving into cloning! Mephisto, you have some ‘splaining to do!
Christmas break has arrived, but the Exwires decide to stay at the school in order to study for the exorcist exam. When a discussion of birthdays arises, they decide to hold a Christmas party/birthday party for the group! The students split into groups to take care of preparations, even as they speculate on what Shiemi has just told them, trying to figure out why she made the decision that she did.
I love following the ongoing investigation of Lightning and Suguro. What they are uncovering is totally fascinating, even if I’m not sure how it fits into the scheme of things. Cloning, immortality and elixirs? We learn more about the Blue Night, as well as Lucifer, while Mephisto continues to protest that he is not the enemy, and he’s certainly not helping the Illuminati. The plot is definitely thickening, and as usual, the Okumura brothers in in the midst of it, whether they know the truth or not.
I also love Suguro’s character development. At the beginning of the series, I thought of him as a muscle-bound lunkhead, but there is a lot more to him than that. I’m dying to find out about why Shiemi decided what she did – what did her mother say to her? And is Yukio ever going to confide his fears to his brother? After all, two heads are better than one!
The beat goes on in this volume of Blue Exorcist. Unfortunately, now I have to wait for the next one to arrive! I’ve reached the end of what is already published. I’m greatly looking forward to the next volume, whenever it comes out!

This volume sure had a lot of plot reveals!! It is a lot to take in! Essentially, Lightning and Bon continue their investigation into Section 13 by confronting Mephisto who reveals a whole lot of details. It looks like the True Cross was experimenting on humans, partaking in cloning and attempting to create vessels for the various Demon Kings. Mephisto explains that demons were only conceptual beings with no bodies of their own. However, as human civilization advanced demons found themselves with bodies and this created egos within them. They took great pleasure with the new bodies they had, but their new found bodies would deteriorate far too quickly. Demons found this incredibly cruel because now they had egos, awareness and experience of what it was like to have physical bodies. Many of the demon kings were tired of this with their bodies failing and deteriorating and no one more so than Lucifer who was beyond his breaking point. As such, he wants to return everything to how it all was before to nothingness. Many demons are in agreement with Lucifer, but other demons like Mephisto are against this and have decided to ally themselves with humanity.
Now, due to all this pain the demons feel of their deteriorating bodies, Lucifer began to befall humanity with disease, unfortunate, a bunch of horrible stuff. Thus, demons who sided with humanity gave humans the knowledge to be able to fight against demons and defend themselves This resulted in the creation of the True Cross.
Now, as the human experimentation with cloning was occuring, a near perfect human body vessel was created. The one who inhabited the body was not Lucifer who needed it the most, but some unknown demon who turned out to be Satan! Once he obtained this vessel the Blue Night occurred and he conceived two twins, Rin and Yukio Okumura with exorcist Yuri.
As Bon said, both Okumura twins are caught up in some major sht they have no idea about and know nothing about their pasts and parents. My poor babies!! 😭😭😭😭
And those who know about Section 13 were made to form this contract where if they ever told the truth immediate death would come for them for daring to speak the truth. So, this is why that guy from the monastery where Rin and Yukio grew up died after revealing the name Section 13 to Lightning. Unknown to Bon who was there to witness it, at the man's funeral, Yukio overheard Lightning was there and is suspicious of the fact and wonders if Bon was there too. Meanwhile, he is still desperate to know the truth about his origins and of his eyes.
Finally, the only other major thing is that due to something Shiemi's mother revealed to her, which I hope we learn about soon, Shiemi has decided not to become an exorcist. Sort of disappointing considering her skill and kind heart and I mean c'mon one of the few female exorcists, but well, oh well.
Overall, very much enjoyed learning about all these shocking and mind spinning details. Hope to learn more, especially finally learn more about Rin and Yukio. Which I am honestly, not emotionally prepared for knowing what is to come between my precious Okumura twins 😭😭😭😭

This was the info-dump volume. The old True Cross Academy was getting up to some hinky shit. Never have I seen a story where making clones for all powerful demons to have corporeal bodies that don’t degrade ever ends well. Basically, once upon a time, all the demon kings were aligned. They didn’t like living in bodies that decomposed in a matter of years, so Mephisto (Sammael), suggests getting a bunch of scientists together and running a research organization to give each of the kings permanent bodies. He only suggests this because Lucifer is talking about wiping out all of humanity so they can go back to a time where they did not have corporeal forms. After all, humans believing in them is the only reason why they became corporeal in the first place.
Lots of fun cloning happens, but it’s not a perfect process. The only King who was ever able to find a permanent body seems to be Amaimon. However, Lucifer, becoming desperate and increasingly unstable, pushes experiments further, and, in that process, they somehow manage to create a clone that was able to house Satan for a short period of time. Thus, causing the Blue Night and the conception of both Yukio and Rin with a still unknown woman. We’ve heard her name, and we know Shiro, who was also a clone it turns out, knew her and maybe even loved her. Thus, why he raised her kids.
Also, Shiemi has been told something quite shocking by her mother, which has caused her to change her mind about becoming an exorcist. We don’t know why or what that revelation is, but here’s hoping it does not stay a secret for long.
Basically, a whole lot of shit is happening and Yukio and Rin are the key to everything. How? We don’t know, but I am ready to find out.
An exceptionally story-centric volume for this manga. I don't recall a single battle in the whole volume. Still it allows Kato to put forward a TON of plot detail, and really advances both the narrative plotline and even more so gives us massive leaps in world-building. Kato answered so many questions at once that my heads spinning a little bit. The four's not for a lack of battles--this is well-written enough and has enough humor to easily survive that with a high rating and without any difficulty--but for the fact that all the information comes so fast and so easy and I can't figure any reason at all rather than authorial delay that it should have been withheld from the reader all this time. It's pretty major, but nothing that immediately transforms the plot or leads us off in a new direction it just says explicitly a whole bunch of stuff Kato's only hinted at till now. That was a touch frustrating. If the character's had earned the info by something more than waiting, or it had cost something to find, or if it had immediately transformed the plotline it would be a five star volume. Still it's nice to finally know.
We finally learn more about Satan and how Mephisto and Amaimon obtained human bodies (or human vessels...).
Aside from that, the scenes with them in the bath was hilarious. I know I've said before that I don't like fanservice, but it's a *little* different with the man being fanservicey, and it was also comedic. Especially since Lightning barged in while Mephisto was taking a bath. And then Mephisto got his revenge by forcing Lightning to take a bath later.
I suspect that Shiemi still wants to become an exorcist but it's her mother that won't budge. I know her mom said she could, but her face said otherwise. And I think Shiemi noticed that too because she didn't smile when her mom said she could take the exam.
Also, Yukio wants to know about his birth but Rin doesn't. I can see both sides of this. Rin probably doesn't care or wants to know because he doesn't want to deal with the past or the burden of knowing (possibly?). And I think Yukio wants to know because he keeps wondering about his eye...

Ambrasius faust -president johann faust's nephew was actually amaimon in class. Yukio is out of the hospital plus he informed to his students especially Rin about test are in 3 days.Yukio told Rin about old man misumi sudden death while bon feel guilty about it. Lightning barge in mephisto's bathroom 😂 because he wanted to speak with him about section 13 & the elixer. Lightning & bon headed to secret place but all in sudden they meet dr igor guy (one eye patch) who told them the place they were searching for. They discovered the truth behind it all, amaimon & shiro also part in experiment, I'm so sad for them, not just them other people who involved in human experimentation in clone strengthening too. shiro was clone of azazel ?🤔 There's a lot of questions plus what did sheimi mother said to sheimi - I'm curious. This manga plot story is full of secrets even mephisto knows it. I want to know what's next🤩. Next volume 20 pls ~

No i nadal wygląda to naprawdę świetnie.
This is very plot forward and has rekindled some of my waning passion for the story. Amaimon is passing himself off as a new student. Shiemi has come to a conclusion none of her friends like. Yukio is recovering from his injuries but Rin feels further from his twin than he ever has.
However that is a very small part of this volume. It's Bon and Lightning-centric. They're investigating the Blue Night among other things and make a horrifying discovery in a pocket-realm that Mephisto has lead them to. I don't want to say more than that because it would ruin it but it's a very creepy reveal and I enjoyed it. I enjoyed much less learning that Lightning doesn't just look scruffy he hates bathing and literally reeks.
