Mark Waid (born March 21, 1962 in Hueytown, Alabama) is an American comic book writer. He is best known for his eight-year run as writer of the DC Comics' title The Flash, as well as his scripting of the limited series Kingdom Come and Superman: Birthright, and his work on Marvel Comics' Captain America.
Overall, my experience with this comic was....good. Nothing beyond average. For me, I had only read the first issue (from the reboot of the "Archie" comics). In all honesty, if I was up-to-date with all the comics that are featured in this compilation, I would have been disappointed and this would be an unnecessary read.
Even still, even though these issues are new to me, I do still stand by the opinion that this "Road to Riverdale" series is questionable when it comes to publications. All of these issues are featured within the comics of origin so it feels as if this specific compilation series is more of a promotional tool. I would recommend those individual series ("Archie", "Betty and Veronica", "Jughead", "Reggie and Me", "Josie and the Pussycats") to be read before I would recommend these.
Specifically, to this volume, the stories for each of these comics were good and entertaining. I did have some moments where I thought the illustrations were not up to par to the issues included in the previous volume but they still were okay.
Okay, now this just feels unnecessary and awkward and a total cash grab. Just buy the trades for the comic you like in the 'Archie' series. And then print out pictures of all the hotties in the show. That will be more enjoyable because you wont' get stuck with some of the more meh comics in the series.
I’ve read the first volume in the “Road to Riverdale” series, and I thought that first book had some really outstanding selections! I ended up finding this volume on sale at a comic book store a couple of months ago, and am just getting to it now. It was a fun read, but no issue here stood out to me as much as the issues collected in the first volume. There’s still a lot of amazing art, so I’d recommend for that, but the stories were not as memorable to me. I was surprised to find that the Reggie and Me story was my favorite in this collection, as he is not usually a character I enjoy reading.
I don't know why I even bothered to bring this home. I'm just going to direct you to my review of Volume 2. All this book managed to do was made me wish that Fiona Staples continued to do the art for The New Riverdale.
Nice to see more of the comics. Interesting that Betty and Veronica set up their whole fight. Happy that Pop still has his restaurant. Jughead being a secret agent is very interesting.
