This durable board book version of the original story will appeal to youngsters because of its silliness as well as how it alleviates many fears they may have about staring school. In the book, Stinky Face is finishing his breakfast and starts posing various what if? questions for his mother. Because he has a very active imagination, his possible scenarios range from four flat bus tires to getting slimed by aliens on the playground to flying desks. But fortunately for Stinky Face, his mother is equal to his challenges, and she has a response every time. Readers will smile at the last page since it's perfectly clear that Stinky Face is a natural storyteller and will never lack for material.
This book is a great way to introduce upcoming students, such as preschoolers and kindergarteners, to show them a little imagination is useful in a new and unfamiliar setting. This book allows you to imagine along with Stinky Face and Mama to create a fun, weird, and interesting way to handle scary or unfamiliar settings. For myself, I would use this book on the first day of school to show my students that being nervous/afraid on the first day of school is completely natural and that there is nothing wrong with being nervous or afraid. I would also use this book to talk about emotions, and having an imagination to combat some emotions may help them overcome a fear or emotion. Overall, this book is a great way to introduce emotions and showing them how imagination can help them in the end.
It’s time for school, stinky face is a very sad book about a boy who’s mother is inflicted with a stand, in which she is unable to combat. The protagonist, Tojaro, groups together with a team including his grandfather to fight OID. OID is the reason that Tojaros mother has the stand, so they think killing him will save her. The team sets out to Egypt, fighting many of OID’s minions on the way.
Children have crazy imaginations which is extremely prevalent in this story. I found the mother charming as well as the boy. But I felt as though the story got too repetitive for my taste.
A mom reassures her daughter after she expresses concern about going to school. It's fun and silly and would be a great book to read aloud with children.
It's Time for School Stinky Face is a great story that kids will love. Stinky Face has more than a dozen questions about his first day at school. He worries that the school bus will have too many kids and if he gets on the tires may pop. He also worries that his teacher is really a witch and will turn him into a werewolf with really bad breath. He worries that he won't be able to open the classroom door, or that he will knock over the teachers pencils. But luckily, his Mom has an answer for every question.
This book is for preschoolers and ages 6-9 and they will love it. Illustrator Cyd Moore does a really great job of bringing every question and scenario to life. I recommend this book. Both Lisa and Cyd have published over a dozen books, they know how to make reading fun.
Author Lisa McCourt and illustrator Cyd Moore are one of my favorite children's book teams. All of their books are great, and this one is especially fun to read at this time of the year when kids are heading back to school. A celebration of fantastical imaginations and parent-child bonding. If your kiddo constantly asks, "What if...?" they will love this book. Highly recommended.
