About the author

Rachel is a writer of words, drawer of pictures and champion of silver linings. She exhibits widely, writes tirelessly and frequently creates slightly unhinged characters.

Her written work includes children’s stories and poems, clever advertising copy and lots of other stuff besides. Her illustrative work is a smorgasboard of giant, hand-printed poems, mind-bogglingly detailed gouache illustrations and a cacophony of quirky prints and etchings.

She explores the lovliness of words and the magic of pictures, revelling in a world of jam-eating miniature bears and other made-up animals.

Her work aims to capture a free way of thinking - one which makes you feel anything is possible, a feeling all too easily lost with the end of childhood. When we’re all grown-up, sometimes we just need a little nudge to remember it’s been there all along.

*Rachel has also been an air hostess, a garden designer and a lifeguard. She often runs a really long way and was once invited to the selection of the British ultra running team. She also once won a date with Man of the millennium and has been trying to live it down ever since.

Kevin from Down Under - a cute Koala. He is scared of not being in control. He is like so many of us thinking that he does have control. He learns it's an illusion. Luckily, he has a great community who is trying to support him and help him be brave. When disaster strikes, he learns that life is ok and he can let go a little. He starts to enjoy life a little more.

The kids had fun with this one. My brother has a horrible and funny Aussie accent so everyone was in stitches reading it. Great and eye popping art work.

The book had a nice rhyming pattern, making it a great choice for a read aloud. The illustrations nicely accompanied the story - Kevin the Koala was adorable. Overall, a great message about trying something new, even when you think it may be scary.

Para além das ilustrações maravilhosas, a mensagem é inspiradora, mostra-nos que sair da nossa zona de conforto pode ser assustador, mas saber que temos amigos por perto, é mais fácil e melhor. Um livro ótimo para trabalhar com as crianças que as mudanças podem ser difíceis mas podem trazer coisas muito positivas.

كانت تخفيضات شهر ديسمبر فرصة رائعة لاقتناء بعض العناوين المميزة ومن ضمنها هذا الكتاب

بالنسبة للسلسلة كاملة فقد أحببت العناوين مكتوبة بالإنجليزية أكثر من نظيرتها بالعربية ... فيها غموض وإثارة وفيها جذب للانتباه وتجعل الأطفال يحاولون تخمين المحتوى فيفرحون إن صدقت توقعاتهم أو يستمتعوا بالمفاجأة إن خالفت توقعاتهم ... اقتنيت من السلسلة بالإنجليزية هذين الكتابين

ولم تكن تلك العناوين متوفرة بالعربية في المكتبة حينما سألت عن السلسلة ... فقرأت الكتب التي بالإنجليزية أولا ولاحظت شيئا ... ففي حين أن القصص قطعا تناسب السن الصغير إلا أن لغتها الأصلية - الإنجليزية - بها الكثير من الكلمات الصعبة التي ربما صادفتني أنا شخصيا لأول مرة لذا فقد تكون من ناحية اللغة تناسب طفليَّ الكبيرين ولكنهما لن يحبا ذلك لأن القصة طفولية جدا بحسب رأيهم! ... وأثار ما سبق ذكره فضولي تجاه الترجمة العربية للكاتب المميز مهند العاقوص وجعلني ذلك أتحسر على تسرعي وعدم انتظاري لوصول باقي الكتب بالعربية للمكتبة التي تبيعها!

كنت متشوقة لقراءة الكتاب الوحيد من السلسلة الذي أمتلكه بالعربية وقد كانت التجربة رائعة ... فالنص يجري بسلاسة وسهولة وربما وبعد أن تعرف الولدان الكبيران على الكاتب وأعماله فهي المرة الأولى التي أقدمه فيها لأصغر الأولاد وقد جاء ذلك من باب الترجمة

القصة هنا عن كوالا يخاف أن يغادر شجرته ليشارك باقي الحيوانات لعبهم وأوقاتهم الحلوة ... في باله أنه لا يستطيع النزول ولا الابتعاد عن الشجرة ... هو شديد التشبث بها يخاف أوهاما في عقله ... وحتى حينما جاء اقتراح وتم تنفيذه فعلا وأصبحت الشجرة على إثره معرضة للكسر (يظهر ذلك من الصور) وعلى وشك السقوط فقد قاوم محاولات أصدقائه من باقي الحيوانات لإقناعه بالقفز رغم مراعاتهم لظروف الأمان وتأكيداتهم على الحرص على سلامته ... فهو خائف جدا ولا يستطيع! ... ثم فعلها وقفز! 😍😍 واكتشف شيئا جميلا 😍😍

الكتاب رائع وكبير الحجم ... رسومه مدهشة في تفاصيلها وألوانها ... وأرى أنها كأنها الكتب الأصلية وفقط تختلف اللغة ... وقد أجادت الدار في ذلك حقا

بداية معرفتي بالدار كانت عن طريق قصة مميزة أخرى أحبها طفلي كثيرا مما دفعني إلى اقتناء عناوين حلوة من الدار

This is a really cute picture book about a koala who avoids playing with his friends because he is afraid. Once the koala gets a can do attitude he discovers life is much more fun. I'm using this book for my Australia storytime.

Nedávno vyšla ďalšia milá detská knížka zo zvieratkovskej série, a tak nám nemohla chýbať v našej kolekcii. Tentokrát je pre mňa špeciálna tým, že som ju nečítala sama, ale v spoločnosti môjho dietka, a teda prešla aj detským testom.

Príbeh mal zas raz úžasnú myšlienku a myslím, že pomôže veľa deťom vyjsť zo svojej komfortnej zóny. Text je veršovaný a aj keď ho malá T. zatiaľ neocení, pri jeho čítaní sa jej vďaka veršom lepšie zaspáva. Ocenila však vo veľkom ilustrácie, ktoré knihu skrášľujú a zabavili ju na hodnú chvíľu. Teším sa na spoločné chvíle s touto knihou, pretože je v nej naozaj kopec vecí na sledovanie a neskôr aj na rozoberanie. Deti sa pri nej rozhodne nudiť nebudú.

Rachel Bright really knows how to do a cute animal story with a great message about how we live our lives as part of communities. This is no exception. Kevin the Koala likes to live a predictable life and is so scared to relinquish control (relatable much?) until an unexpected event forces him to try something new. The illustrations are cute, the rhymes are well-done, and it was fun to read with an Australian accent.

Sehr schöne Illustrationen, wie in allen anderen Büchern dieser Serie. Der aus dem Englischen übersetzte Text jedoch wirkt hölzern, bisweilen holprig und gezwungen.

In der Geschichte von Kimi Koala geht es um Furcht vor dem Neuen, um das Loslassen und wie wichtig Freunde als Begleitung beim Aufbruch ins Unbekannte sind. Alles ist sehr einfach gehalten und der Text ist sehr kurz, der Fokus liegt hier auf den Bildern.

Je nach Hörverstehen ab ca. 2,5 Jahren geeignet.

This is a great book - I love it.
Kevin the koala is very happy living on his tree. He doesn’t want to venture down below into the busy world. One day a woodpecker pecks at the trunk and Kevin has no option to come down before he falls. Kevin still refuses and he does fall. Kevin soon realised that it isn’t so scary on the ground and from that day on he knows that he CAN do things even if he is scared of them.

Kevin, the koala, doesn't want to ever leave his true. He's too worried about will happen if he ever comes down, but when something happens that forces him down, he discovers there wasn't anything to be worried about. This would be a good book for kids with anxiety, especially about trying new things.

Vrolijk prentenboek met een lekker lopend rijm over de koala die ontdekt hoe fijn het spelen met anderen kan zijn. De illustraties zijn aandoenlijk en met warme kleuren, maar iets minder expressief in vergelijking met de boeken Twee vechtende eekhoorns en De leeuw in de muis, van hetzelfde duo.

A cute little picture book about Kevin the Koala who lacks a little bit of confidence and self esteem. An ok message but quite boring. Definitely better ways to get across the message: leave your comfort zone and try something new. I did, however, like that it was a rhyming book. Lots of rhythm so could capture children's attention and interest.

Good pace. Just be careful when saying "can't" with an Australian accent. I made that mistake.
