Sleep Well, Little Bear
Not since "Goodnight Moon" have the rhythms of bedtime been so well played as in this enchanting picture book. Instead of counting sheep, an insomniac little bear sends himself to sleep by contemplating the nighttime world from the bedroom window, remembering the day's adventures and planning for tomorrow's. At the back of the book, waiting to be discovered, is a special magic letter that has materialized out of the story, for each reader to color and place under his or her pillow to ensure "a beautiful dream and a good night."

Quint Buchholz
35 books17 followersQuint Buchholz was born in Stolberg near Aachen in 1957 and grew up in Stuttgart. He studied history of art for four terms, followed by painting and graphic design at the Munich Academy of Art under Prof. Gerd Winner.
He has worked as a painter and illustrator since 1979, illustrating over thirty books for German and international publishers. From 1982 onwards his works have also been exhibited in over seventy solo exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Greece and Taiwan.
He spent 2001-2002 working on a series of about thirty box installations and "found object" sculptures.
In recent years he has also worked as a stage painter, creating sets for The Golem in 2005 and Caligula in 2007, both of which were staged by Jochen Schölch for the Metropoltheater in Munich.
In 2008 and 2009 Quint Buchholz ran the Illustration workshop at the Kunst leben (Live Art) summer school in Kloster Irsee.
At the end of 2008 a theatrical interpertation of The Collector of Moments opened at the Theâtre de Cornouaille in Quimper, Brittany, directed by Jacques Nichet and with Jacques Echantillon in the lead role. The production then went on tour to nine other French cities.
A German production of Der Sammler der Augenblicke (The Collector of Moments) opened in March 2011 at the Metropoltheater in Munich, directed by Jochen Schölch and after fourteen sold out performances will return to the theatre in November 2011.
Quint Buchholz is married, he is the father of three children and lives in Munich in Germany.

When I was really young, my father bought this book for me. It's the first book I remember that I chose from the bookstore...I loved it so much, I was fascinated by the pictures and I read it sooo many times I can still remember everything. Something about it stuck with me. Is it the wonderful, dreamy, fantastic story or the equally beautiful, amazing illustration by (my favourite) illustrator, Quint Buchholz, I don't know. I just know this, this book will always be one of my favourite childrens books of all times. This book is a poem and a good night song so lovely my heart warms for it.

December 3, 2013This is a wonderful tale about a little bear that is about to go to sleep but is not tired quite yet. He contemplates the nighttime world from the bedroom window. He reflects on the activities of the day and makes plans for tomorrow. In my opinion, this is one of the best bedtime stories that I have read. It is a very peaceful but eventful story. This book wouldn’t be used in the classroom. If a parent were to ask for suggestions for bedtime stories, this story would be on my list. It is interesting that this book was first written in German and translated to English. This story might be scrutinized for animation of a stuffed animal but to be honest, the little bear doesn’t look animated in any way. The story is simply told from the perspective from the little bear.

A 1001 CBYMRBYGU.
This little story of a small bear headed to bed reads just like a poem. The pictures had a sleep inducing effect on me as well. Lulling me to sleep. With words and pictures.
In the evening, the little bear took off his apple trousers
and put on his star pajamas.
He had heard a long good-night story.
He had said a small prayer.
He had hummed along with a little sleep song.
He had gotten five kisses.
But he still needed a drink of water from the blue cup,
because suddenly he was very thirsty,
just like he was every night.

The illustrations are so beautiful and I could look at them all for hours. Charming story too and a really delightful surprise at the end. I would buy this as a gift - it is really special for a good night story.
