Aha! I remembered this story but not its name, and a friend suggested Oscar Wilde's Canterville Ghost. I read that and it jibed with my memory but Oscar Wilde was unlikely to be in the children's room of the library. It makes sense that Corbett reworked the story for children.

A fun read. I read it in less than an hour. I was a bit disappointed since I had high hopes of it being a good cheesy like the movie based off it. "The Canterville Ghost" but like the book "The Princess Bride" it pales in comparison to the Hollywood adaptation.

I suspect this must get interesting only after you've read "The Canterville Ghost."

So fun and so sweet. Just an easy, old-fashioned read.
