Wichtig. Wichtig is gar nichts, dazu is de Welt zu groß. Aber richtig, richtig soll’s zugehn. Was richtig is, ick meine, wat Recht is, det sollt auch Recht sein! Nich!?
Important. Nothing is important, the world is too big for that. But right, right it should be. What is right, I mean, what is just, that should also be right! No!?It’s not so obvious from the quote above, but large parts of the play is written with a thick Berlin dialect. Voigt is speaking it, as well as many other characters. There are also quite a few other dialects, and the high German is clearly in the minority. But that, even if I think it’s a bit overdone here, gives this play a special and appealing flavor if also little challenging to read.
