Texas, 1907. Miss Opal Wilson may be elderly, but she’s certainly not ordinary. And when local circuit-riding preacher, Andrew Marek, finds himself trapped in an engagement to an unsuitable woman, Miss Opal considers it her duty to set things right. With the help of her sister (and the good Lord, of course), Miss Opal sets her match-making scheme into motion. Will she find the right bride in time? Set in Central Texas in the early 1900s, Miss Opal Makes a Match is a lighthearted story that combines authentic historical detail and lovable characters with a Texas-sized dose of faith.
Miss Opal Makes a Match is a delightful book that just makes you smile. Two senior women who are in good health and a beacon in their community devise a plan to make sure their young traveling preacher selects the right wife. He was engaged to marry the wrong woman and not the one God had planned for him. They interfere in an adorable way and get a woman to come care for them that is God fearing and eager to fulfill the plan God has for her. When their young preacher sees her, he is smitten. But getting the two of them together is harder than it seems when there is a fiance in the middle.
The book is well written and is clearly the beginning of a series where Miss Opal gets her heart set on "helping" others to realize the plan God has for them. It is a quick read that keeps you smiling as it injects humor and scripture in a way that fits perfectly in the story.
A sweet inspirational romance set in early 1900's Bell County,Texas! When a pair of elderly sisters take matters in hand to bring the young preacher a bride, using subterfuge and a lot of prayer, there isn't much that will get in their way. Some fun characters, a solid faith theme, and an interesting setting made this quick read a special one. Hope to see more of these characters in other stories. Readers who enjoy Christian historical romances will like this one.
(An e-book was provided by the author. All opinions are my own.)
This book was very entertaining delightful and I could picture the characters and it places date they lived. I cannot wait for more Adventures with Miss. Opal and her sister what will they do next. Capital Please continue writing about these characters they are quite lovely. Thank you very much for this very wholesome story. Janet Haynes
From the very first sentence, I was hooked and couldn't get enough of Miss Opal Makes a Match by Amy Rognlie. Hopefully there will be many more adventures with Opal and Armilda. They are truly extraordinary characters to build a series around.
When Opal and Armilda decide the preacher is marrying the wrong woman, they come up with a plan to set things right. There were times I laughed and just shook my head because I could picture these two ladies up to their conniving while always discussing it and listening to the Lord. I recommend this book to everyone. It's a feel good easy read that will leave you with the hope of encountering Miss Opal again and again!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book and all thoughts, comments and opinions are my own!
The story of Miss Opal and her sister, Armilda was not just a lighthearted mini novel. It was also packed with helpful spiritual advice and life lessons from Miss Opal. The characters were easy to love and well developed. I was disappointed when I realized the story was coming to an end so soon. Oh well, that just makes me look forward to the next installment all the more.
Miss Opal and her sister, Armilda, are two feisty, lovable older women who know how to "arrange" things that need arranging ... like relationships between a cute ranch-raised young woman and a preacher caught in a promise made in haste. Set in Central Texas as the 19th century gives way to the 20th, the story captures your attention and gives you a hug as sweet as peach pie. It's a short read but perhaps it just went by so quick I thought it was short.
Inspirational, historical read. I smiled a lot at the antics of Miss Opal and her sister, Armilde. It is set in a small Texas town not far from where I grew up, so it was very fun to picture the characters there. Written from a strong Christian worldview, but not preachy. Short enough to read in a night or two before bed, but long enough to tell the story well. Overall, it was a very enjoyable read.
A delightful short story I couldn't put down. Miss Opal is a peach and I loved her. God sure does work in mysterious ways, and sometimes he has the help of a little old prayer woman.
What a cute story! I would love to be neighbors with Miss Opal and her sister, Miss Armilda. I often laughed out loud at the antics of the Wilson Sisters, and then was astounded by Miss Opal’s spiritual depth. Amy does a great job of helping you to see the characters in her story. I can’t wait to see what Miss Opal is up to in the next book!
Such a cute story, easy romantical read. Not too preachy. I read this one before bed for a few nights. Was such a relaxing read before bed! I will continue to the next one. Short story.
