The Life of Pope John Paul II in Comics

Rate this book
John Paul II was one of the most beloved popes in history. Here is his complete biography told in the graphic novel format. For the first time in beautifully illustrated comics, the entire story of his incredible life is told -- from his youth and inspiration to join the church in his native Poland, through his heroic defiance of the communist regime which first brought him international attention, and to his leadership as Pope. His inspirational quest for peace and world understanding touched millions, reaching far beyond his faithful followers. Ages 8 and up.

Aw mannnnn. I miss this dude. And my eyes got wet a surprising number of times reading this slim but quote-and-event packed volume on his long and eventful and wonderful life. Like when he was all "I make so many people saints because there are so many saints!" Jeeeeez. The long quote/important event slanted nature of this book was great for me as a certified papist, but as a comic book it was a little hard to get through because it was not particularly action-driven and the illustrations were of the just-ok comic book style variety. Except when you'd see glimpses of the old pope on the young Karol Wojtyla's face. And oh also! It emphasized to me how Polish he was and how socially/physically Catholic he was (as opposed to being a professorial type like Benedict)... And finally. Yeah. The Pope Was Dope.

The Life of Pope John Paul II in graphic novel form. While, I'm sure, this doesn't give you as many details about his life as a biography book would, it still has quite a few details and things about him I did not know.
The story of his life, even in graphic novel form, is powerful and you really realize the hardships he went through, the loss, moments of sadness and moments of happiness. I believe he truly was a great person, who did as much good as possible in this world while he lived.
I recommend this to anyone interested in his life.

Very nice comic on his life. My son and I enjoyed reading it together. Soem depictions of war are a too graphic for very young readers.
