A compelling new biography of First Lady Laura Bush retraces her journey from a West Texas town to the halls of power in Washington. $100,000 ad/promo.
As a biography I don't think this was very good. I didn't learn anything I didn't already know about her. The author tends to go off subject and talk about something or someone completely different. I found myself skipping whole pages. With that being said, I do think she did a great job depicting Laura Bush and her quiet elegance. I have always thought she was a real classy lady and reading this didn't change my opinion. I just love her as a person and I did enjoy reading about her personal choices in books.
After reading American Wife, I wanted to know more about the real Laura Bush. This book really didn't shed much light on her. Yes, she's a librarian and quiet and calm. She loves her husband and likes to keep her opinions on policy to herself. I pretty much already knew that.
This book should have had a different title. Yes, I enjoyed the written material about Laura Bush; however, the author would elaborate on topics that didn't have to do with Mrs. Bush's biography. I also didn't enjoy his writing style. It was quite simple and basic.
This book is below average for me. Not the subject, I admire Laura Bush tremendously. I was just not excited about the way the book was written. It felt like the author was writing more about Barbara, George, or even Lady Bird Johnson, Jacqueline Kennedy and Hillary Clinton. I didn't learn much about Laura Bush from reading this book although I did enjoy about the Book Festivals in Texas. Strange the book I was reading ended with the plight of Afghanistan woman as we watch the news of the Taliban taking over today, 20 years later.
Although most of the information in this book were facts I have learned or read about in previous books, it was still interesting to read. It shows Laura as the calm, quiet and respected lady that she is. It is a short quick read and a few different slightly new turns on facts that surround her life.
I really enjoyed getting to know more about Laura Bush through this biography. Sometimes when I read books like these I think that it would be interesting to spend an evening with the person to hear more of their story, but Mrs. Bush seems more like the kind of person I would cherish as a friend. A couple of times the book went a little farther than I cared to know about things going on around her instead of directly about her, but I understand some people like more details than I do and I was able to skim these sections and get back to the story dealing more directly with her.
Note: This is an older book, so it ends with the attacks on America 9/11/01.
3.5 stars. Laura Bush is an amazing person and did (and is still doing) amazing things. Her life is interesting and inspiring. The writing style of this book isn’t my favorite. The author randomly goes off-track and gives unneeded information about random things not relating to Laura Bush. If this is the only biography on Laura you can find, read it, but I can assure you that there are much better biographies on her out there.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone. I came away feeling like I coul do more, that I knew her on a personal level and my respect for her grew. She went from being a shy librarian to the first lady of the United States with so much grace. She is still simple in her title as first lady. This is definately one I will read again.
Biography of Laura Bush presents the wife of former President George W. Bush as an intelligent, warm and caring wife, mother and First Lady. She reminded parents to comfort their children after the 911 tragedy. I enjoyed reading about her family and friends. I appreciated Laura Bush even more for what she meant to America in our time of need.
