Their relationship might be fake, but their love is real
Roger likes to play, but he also likes to play it safe. He has two rules—don’t get pregnant and don’t give your heart away. He’s been through too much shit to trust any guy to treat him right and, besides, he’s too busy. A trip to Canada to see your favorite hockey team in action doesn’t happen, unless you work for it. And that’s just one of the many things on Roger’s bucket list. He has his life all planned out, and relationships have no place in it.
Zed used to believe fated mates only existed in fairy tales, so when his overbearing mother arranges a mating for him, he doesn’t mind. One dragon’s as good as another, and these things have a long tradition in dragon culture. To sweeten the pot, his show-biz icon parents have offered to help his band hit the big time in exchange for his vows.
Everything looks good until Zed runs into Roger one night after a show—and the attraction between them is undeniable.
Could the stories of fated mates actually be true? If so, he needs to find a way out of his arranged mating and a way to keep Roger around long enough to give them a shot. In his desperation, the only solution Zed can think of is to hire Roger to play his boyfriend so he can convince his mother that he’s found his true mate.

Look, you should know by now I am not a fan of miscommunication and it's unfortunately woven throughout this story, which really impacted how much I enjoyed this.
At the same time, I really liked the characters and storyline (minus the miscommunication), especially the dual POV, and I feel like if the ending hadn't been so rushed, and we learned more about, and had a better understanding of, Roger's past, which felt like it got short shrifted, I'd be rating much higher.
Each book in this series is better than the one that came before. The MCs are more 3-dimensional and the plots, while still being sort of similar and progressing as expected, are more interesting.
Still not fond of the whole "bonding" trope (because dying when your mate does just seems too similar to the old ritual of throwing yourself - or being forcibly thrown - on the funeral pyre of your husband/owner) but I get the idea behind it in these stories...
OMG I thought Ty’s mother was bad, but Zed's mother took it to a whole new level. Poor Roger my heart absolutely broke for him when we find out about his past. Zed was the perfect mate for him and helped him heal.
I was excited to climb back into Ann-Katrin Byrd's world of dragons, omegas, and mpreg. 'A Dragon's Love Song' is book three in her 'Fires of Fate’ series and I'm still very intrigued by the author’s world building. This book deals with Roger, Michael's best friend, and Zed, the gorgeous dragon rocker who made an appearance in Michael and Kylan's story. I couldn't wait to see what deliciousness the author was going to bring for their fated love story.
Roger's modus operandi is a one-night stand, that's it, and he's happy with the way his life is. He's thrilled that Michael met his love match and they have a fairy tale life along with their daughter, but that's not what Roger is looking for. Roger is aggressive and knows exactly what he wants. He lets his partners know the score straight up so everyone is on the same page. Except when he meets Zed there are some feelings he doesn't understand and it goes both ways. Zed is to be mated to a girl his mother picked out in an arranged mating and Zed is fine with that. He'd love to tell her no, and that he'd rather wait for his fated mate, but all dragons know that true mates practically never happen plus his parents have agreed to help his band get more publicity if he does this.
"He was the one. I'd realized that earlier. When he'd told me he was an omega and that he felt like he'd known me his whole life...... Suddenly it had all made sense. Why I was so attracted to him, why I'd felt compelled to heal him, why I couldn't think or act rationally in his presence. Why my dragon wanted him. He was my fated mate, the missing piece of my soul. And I had no idea at all how to convince him of that."
It doesn’t take Zed long to get a handle on Roger so his invitation to the Island to act as Zed's "pretend" mate so Zed isn't forced into a traditional mating was sheer genius on Zed's part. Of course, Zed wants to find out what it is in Roger's background that has him feeling the way he does about relationships and pregnancy. Roger being close to Zed for days and weeks on end had Roger looking at his own emotions a little too closely and on the night of the Solstice Zed tells him the truth, and well, Roger reacts in the predictable manner.
I adored the way Roger and Zed's love/mating came about. It was so sweet and there were parts that almost broke my heart for Roger and his fears, plus the reasons behind them. This was a wonderful addition to the series and I look forward to more.
Both, Roger and Zed, suffered great loss in their past. A hard fought, undying commitment to one another helped them heal, give unconditional love and grow their family.
The situation between them may have started out as a fake relationship, but fate always has other plans.
If there was one character I wanted to literally punch, it was Zed's mother. What a horrible person. Her meddling caused a lot of pain. Despite this book being a work of fiction, her ruthless methods were definitely rooted in truth.
I adore shifter books, but tentatively stepped into the dragon realm for a another dip, where I was pleasantly surprised with an entertaining read.
Roger is a human omega, very much a loner with only one true friend, works 3 jobs and likes to keep his nightly activities to one night stands and no repeat. Zed is a dragon shifter and singer in a band. He discovers Roger is his fated mate and then has to slowly proceed to get Roger on side.....
I liked Roger, he was dealing with a lot of baggage from his past and not quite forgiving himself for past events and so still carrying the scars as a consequence. He refused to allow himself to be happy. Zed is all prepared to take on a planned mating when he discovers that fated mates are not fairy tales and he has actually found his!. The was some moments of sarcasm and banter that made me grin, Roger appears confident and full of sass. Zed was strong and supportive and allowed Roger to find his space.... until he doesn't and then let's him go. The blip was a little out of blue and maybe a tad farfetched, but I rolled with it - especially with Roger's phobia and Zed's mother needed a slap......
This is the third book in the series and I haven't read the first two, but this reads well as a standalone, even with dialogue and scenes with prior characters not causing an issue.
The last quarter of the book seemed a little rushed and Roger a little too accepting - but, it finishes nicely on a HEA with an epilogue.
Overall, an enjoyable read which has given me the impetus to give dragon shifters another go!
I voluntarily received an ARC from the author for my reading pleasure.
A Dragon’s Love Song is the 3rd story in this series, and while I think that the second book is still my favorite in this series so far, I still really enjoyed reading about Zed and Roger.
We met Zed in the last book, he’s one of the members of the dragon band and the one who went on a date with Michael while he was on a break with his mate. I’m so glad Zed got a story, I really loved getting to read about him. I will say that I HATED his family, and his mother especially! What a bitch! I wish he had been able to stand up to her a bit more, and a bit earlier.
Roger is an omega with a lot of sass as well as strength, and also a heartbreaking past that we learn about in this story. It really explained why he was the way he was and why his opinions towards relationships and pregnancy were what they were.
I thought that Zed and Roger were very sweet together, had good chemistry together, and I loved the ending for them. (But someone should tell them that using 2 condoms at the same time is a big no-no hahaha!) and I can’t wait for the next story, which seems like it will be the other member in the band and his friend.
I received an ARC copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this more than the first 2 books!! Roger was so utterly different from our first 2 chaste protagonists. Not that I didn't love Adrian and Mickey, but Roger's snarky humor and sexy banter was just delightfully refreshing. I also felt that this book was kind of deeper than the first two. Like I literally cried when I reached the part about Roger's past trauma. Together with Zed, they just pulled my heartstrings. I also need to fist pump Roger for being the ONLY omega so far to give a crap about safe sex. I mean Ann Bryde must have some kind of fetish about insta-preg or something. Not that I think I have much room to judge given how I'm reading all her books. Anyways, I thought the characters were very unique and different to the previous couples despite following the usual format of her stories. Conclusion: This book was sexy, emotional, and HEA guaranteed. A highly recommended read.
Book 3 of a wonderful series of dragon shifter and human omega books. this book a love story of Zed and Roger did not disappoint me . Zed the singer in a dragon shifter band meets his fated mates and long the way we have steamy encounters between the two of them, healing and love that knows no boundary. well worth the read. has further lifted my spirits as well as providing an escape from the horrors going on around thew world with COVID-19, Trump and the likes.
I like this. Very cute. But as with the other one I just recently read, the timeline is off. It seems they can’t just quite get that right. Like in Ryan’s story, book 4 ( I accidentally read them out of order when I couldn’t remember where I left off).
Anyway, it was a lovely story and I’m sure you will enjoy it.
See my notes, highlights and commentary on Goodreads. Happy reading!
This was sweet. I liked both characters and I learned about a new phobia! I liked that Zed took his time with Roger. I hated Zed’s mother. I think I’ll go back and read the first two books but I didn’t miss out not having read them first. I would have liked a little more world building but maybe that’s what I missed starting the series here.
I absolutely loved reading this book! Roger and Zed are truly tested by fate. I honestly wanted to reach through the book and strangle Zed's mother. I'm happy everything turns out perfect in the end!
I really liked how Zed and Roger's story played out. Both had issues they need to deal with to make things works. The nly thing bad about this book was Zed's parents. I wanted to b*tchslap his mother.
This was a very enjoyable read.... I liked Roger and Zed and the plot was very engaging.... It was brilliant how Zed got Roger to believe in the fake boyfriend/mate thing.... It was also good to see the other guys and their kids as well.... Off to book 4
I loved this story. The characters were adorable and I liked the significance of the tattoos. Their emotions are so real and I was rooting for Zed the whole time. The might be my favorite book so far.
I really liked Zed! He was sweet and fell for Roger right away. Roger was more complicated and it took me a while to warm up to his character. Zed’s mom on the other hand was just plain nasty!!! This is a sweet read!
Roger has a secret fear that is going to make things difficult for Zed. With some help from friends and annoying family we get our happy ending. Loving the differences to the Fated mates idea in this series.
There are hints of a more complicated past for these two and I'm a little bummed out those weren't explored more, we got tiny morsels sprinkled in but the way the ending was just so conveniently perfect just made me wish for more.
Enjoyed reading the third book of the Fires of Fate. It was so different from the first two book--two men Roger and Zed had both lost someone they loved. It was a slow burn for Roger to realize he loved Zed. Recommend reading. Are there going to be anymore of this series?
