He finds himself in the middle of a case that brings the dreamy detective to the front door of his Curl Up and Dye salon. Both men deny that there’s something between them, even though they’re drawn together like magnets. Can Gabe convince Josh to let down his guard or will Josh let past hurts destroy his chance at a happy future?

Okay, first things first: I highly recommend reading the prequel story (Fatal Reaction) before diving into this novel. I know the latest edition of this ebook has the prequel attached as a sort of extended prologue, but some readers may not have this newer edition or they may simply feel it’s safe to skip over because they don’t like that sort of thing – either way, I would not recommend skipping it. The prequel not only introduces readers to the town of Blissville and its assortment of quirky and (mostly) lovable residents, but it’s also there that the main characters of the series – Josh, the hair salon owner, and Gabe, the detective – meet during a case and begin their tumultuous love/hate/love relationship. Jumping straight into this first novel without any foreknowledge about Josh and Gabe would be doable, sure, but I’d imagine starting with book one would feel like jumping in mid-story and probably wouldn’t make the best first impression (especially if some of the reviews are anything to go by).

Putting all that technical reading order stuff aside, I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery/romance story and eagerly look forward to reading more in this series.

Dyeing to be Loved is my first experience with Aimee Nicole Walker’s storytelling and I was not disappointed. She managed to combine a bunch of tropes I truly enjoy into one well-written and well-paced story. The mystery portion of the plot was engaging and well thought out; it was just the right amount of suspenseful and complicated to keep me interested, but it didn’t overpower the developing romance either, which I really appreciated.

As for the relationship between Josh and Gabe, I can see how their constant back and forth would annoy some readers, but I personally loved it. Gabe was your typical, slightly gruff but lovable, seasoned detective, and it didn’t take me long to go all heart-eyed over the guy. In contrast, Josh seemed to be a bit trickier for some readers to love, with his unpredictable mood swings and his sometimes downright aggressive and unfounded reactions to Gabe’s overtures. I can see why some readers may have struggled with Josh and his hot/cold attitude towards Gabe, but I found myself easily liking the guy anyway. In fact, I think I preferred him to Gabe, which is quite a big statement and one many readers of the series may not agree with.

I especially appreciated that although Josh and Gabe’s physical relationship was quick to start (like, back in the prequel, quick), their emotional connection was unhurried in its development, making this the kind of slow-burn romance I thrive on.

As I mentioned earlier, there are some seriously mixed reviews for this book, which honestly had me hesitating for a year (or two). Ultimately, I’m so glad I decided to give this series a shot (and followed the emphatic recommendation from the one whose opinion I hold in the highest esteem), because this story was right up my alley and I’m all aboard for whatever comes next for Josh and Gabe.

4.5 Impressed Hearts!

Wow, this was a fantastic read if I do say so myself. I admit I’m not always up for a murder mystery since often the romance gets pushed to the side as the main focus is finding out the whodunit, but this right here? The romance took center stage, and it was a really entertaining story that pulled me in, surprising me at how much I enjoyed this.

Set in small town Ohio, this focuses on local hair stylist Josh Roman who’s had more than his fair share of horribly disappointing relationships. When a friend is murdered, he clashes with detective Gabe Wyatt, as Gabe awkwardly puts his big foot in it, making it an upward battle to make amends to the feisty Josh. Oh how the animosity runs high! What also runs high is their attraction, try as they might to deny it. No doubt there’s lust between these two, but the dislike on Josh’s part is understandable and the main obstacle to their lurve.

What I adored was the juxtaposition between Josh and Gabe. Josh is not some limpid person. He’s full of personality and bite, albeit with a huge chip on his shoulder - a button that Gabe unfortunately pushes over and over again. Gabe in turn, is one hot piece of man in all the right ways who admits to his mistakes and doesn’t play games. These two fight, resist, fight, pursue, and fight some more, and there was plenty of uncontrolled angry heavily on the dislike but can’t help but love each other’s cocks and wanting more but too scared to admit kind of sex. Uh huh.

I listened to this story, and I have to say that the prolific Joel Leslie is slowly breaking through my defenses. He’s still a little jarring at times but the back and forth that fuels the yummy UST, peppered with just the right amount of emotional feels and snark, along with the hot hot smex was just so good. Again, I like romantic mystery - this just had all the other stuff that I love even more which is a total win! I’m only bummed that the audio for the next book is not out yet. Darn!

Thank you to the author/publisher for the audio in exchange for a honest review

* Re-read June 27, 2020 Still one of my favorite series, it's magnificent and fun.
** Incredible, wonderful, amazing mystery romance ! ***
Josh/Jazz was having a great day when two women broke

out into a full fledged fight on his hair salon floor. He even got a black eye trying to break them up. Detective Gabe was on the scene the next day...
when one of the women was found dead in her tub. Who did it !
Gabe and Josh have had a one night stand and must work to find the murderer.

Gabe would like to be with Josh again, but they do snark at each other, and irritate each other. Despite that, we love them. We root for them. The plot is a steady paced, action packed investigation, and we meet new characters as the search continues. Josh and Gabe become closer and more deeply entrenched in their relationship.
We see terrific sexy times, and then there is a new twist to the murder being discovered. I loved the snarky banter, and it's funny, with snappy nicknames, etc.. Josh calls his sexy and frustrating man, "Detective Dark and Dangerous"

"Detective Hung Dick" Detective Hot Lips, and so forth ! So cute ! Josh has a Siamese cat, a Ferret, and a dirty talking Macaw, while Gabe finds a sweet abandon dog

he takes in.
This is simply a fun, and exciting mystery romance. The epilogue is fabulous. It can stand alone, but we do get a lead on the next book, and it sounds great.
Highly recommended. ENJOY !

Well! Well!

Surprise!

description

description

This is my first book by this author and sure won’t be the last I liked it.

This is the story of Gabe the detective and Josh the salonist. The story starts with a murder mystery that brings these two together. The start is not a smooth one, they start of as enemies who enjoy some hot scorching sex to lovers who enjoy cute moments together.

I Loved

-Gabe and Josh, I felt their connection from the start. Josh could be frustrating at times, but I understood his reservations.

-The writing, the plot flowed nicely, it was not OTT and there was balance between the mystery and the love story, and I was glad I did not know the unsub, this made the mystery part enjoyable.

-The supporting characters which include Josh’s friends Chazz and Meredith, Gabe’s partner Adrian and his wife.

-I loved the small town setting and its gossip. I would love to visit Josh’s salon.

I have discovered one of my major pet peeves is unnecessary miscommunication, there was none here when they argued and disagreed they talked it out like adults. I loved that.

It was amazing to me how much things could change after a few sentences were exchanged. It wasn't like Gabe and I sat on my couch and divulged every feeling we'd ever had. We told each other exactly how we felt about the argument we had and talked about how we could avoid it in the future.

2.5 stars. Very frustrating read. The hot and cold relationship between the MCs almost had me giving up on this book. I actually started it weeks ago and to put it on pause. The book does end with the relationship on seemingly solid ground, so I will give book 2 a try. But if the back and forth nonsense starts up again, I'll just give up. I hope it doesn't because Josh and Gabe are pretty sweet together when they aren't acting like idiots.

I don’t hate it...

Josh takes some getting used to cuz his push and pull routine was getting old. It’s either you want the mans or you don’t, can’t have it all Josh 🙄

The way it ended has intrigued me so now I gotta get book 2. I call that a win.

You do not NEED to read: Nut Case Love Anthology, but in that book you will find the prequel (and the beginning of Josh and Gabe's relationship) to this story.
And a heads-up: some of the scenes from the short story is repeated in this one as flashbacks, just... *UGH*!

I feel cheated; first something is missing from this one, and after some googling and searching I find the beginning in the Anthology, and then it turns out, that some of the already SHORT story is incorporated in this story... Just FUCKING keep it in one book, goddammit!
description
*Sigh* As stated in my review of the short story, I started this book, and felt that something was missing. Turns out, that something was missing, but could be found in another story, and that annoyed the crap out of me.

So Josh and Gabe met-met during the investigation of Bianca's murder. They have seen each other around Blissville, but never talked before.
Gabe has a definite type, and Josh is NOT it. A fact made clear in the prequel and the many MANY times, that Gabe says he doesn't even like Josh. (The reason that Gabe starts seeing Josh in a different light, can be found in the love potion Bianca slipped him in the prequel... !!!)

Josh is a hairdresser with his own salon, he has great friends and parents, but have not had ANY luck in love.
Gabe is a detective, and when one of Josh's clients is murdered after an argument and blow-out (the fighting-kind, not the hair-kind) at the salon, Josh is put in front of Gabe (again).

Gabe and Josh sleep together, then Josh is a douche, then they sleep together, then Gabe is a douche, then they sleep together, then they are both douches...
*phew* the angsting and the fighting, was sort of fun, but at one point it became a wee bit too much for me.
I get that Josh has been treated badly by former lovers, but we never get a FULL story or an explanation on what happened, and that negates his reasons for being SO prickly and SO set in his ways, to the point of just being irritating and ridiculous.
description
The case was okay, and I had not guessed the murderer, BUT it felt rushed and read like an after-thought amongst the angsting and the fighting.

If you are itching to read a romance with a touch of mystery, I would say this is a good bet, just don't expect too much on the mystery part.

Lastly I had some issues with the writing. There was a LOT of telling (and re-telling), and not a lot of showing:

Wanda’s tiny hand trembled in mine when she shook my hand. It was obvious that Wanda was grieving over Georgia’s murder and I was grateful that she hadn’t been the one to find her.

I looked over at Adrian to see if he had any more questions for her and he shook his head slightly indicating that he didn’t. We rose to our feet at the same time.

So final rating is 2.51 stars, it was fun at times, and Chaz and Mere were great characters, but the back-and-forth between the MCs, Josh's (at times) unreasonable (unexplained) behavior, the confusion with the prequel and the 'skated-over' mystery, dragged my rating down.

This didn’t bother me as much this time 🤷‍♀️ I do love them individually.

Originally read September 2019

This kept me interested the whole time and given I was pretty much in a slump, reading mediocre books, that's saying something. The writing was great and I enjoyed the mystery part of it.

But holy cow! Could a book drag out the push/pull any longer? I mean I didn't really enjoy the relationship until the last 5% or so. Push/pull is not my thing but I stuck with it thinking it would get better. And, like I said, I did enjoy all the other things and the other characters. I actually liked both Josh and Gabe separately. But I wanted to strangle Josh so many times. His denial of his feelings was getting a bit ridiculous by the 50% mark but then it continued on! And maybe I missed something, but I never did figure out how he had actually gotten "burned" in previous relationships, enough to make him treat Gabe the way he did. I hope more will come out as the series progresses.

I'm definitely interested enough in these two to continue on with the series. Hopefully their relationship improves.

A sweet and Sassy romance

Before I even start the review I have to give a shout out to the cover lovers, like myself and say "DID you SEE that cover??" Sexy as hell! Those two on that cover are perfect! Let me tell ya the formatting is amazing as well and we get to see these sexy guys all through the story to keep them fresh in your mind! Loved it!

Now the story...

Dyeing to be Loved is a romantic love story with a side of mystery, featuring two MC who are made for each other. Josh is such a Sassy guy, I fell in love with his personality from the get go. Josh will constantly surprise you and make you chuckle with his creative names for Gabe and his bold personality, he doesn't fit in a box and he is proud of it!
“I’m not sure I even like you,” I heard myself say to Gabe, earning a quick flash of a smile from him. “That’s okay because I’m not sure I like you either.” He relaxed the fist that held my jacket and slid that hand around to cup my neck. “But I will respect you in the morning.”

Gabe, we don't get inside his head as much but what we do see is loveable, nothing sexier than an Alpha male who owns his sexuality, and uses handcuffs in his day job.
"I craved Josh Roman like an illicit drug...He was an exotic animal I wanted to pet but feared it might bite me, hard." *swoon*

This story is told from alternating POV and has amazing support characters. I can say, I was actually surprised by who the culprit was in this story and that doesn't happen a lot, so kudos to the author for writing a very creative mystery. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the pets in this story. A foul-mouthed bird named Savage, Diva a siamese cat, and Jazzy a ferret all of whom belong to Josh. Then we have Buddy, the abandoned German Shepherd/lab mix that Gage finds and adopts. I loved how these animals were included in the daily storyline, much like real life. The romance and passion between these two characters is scorchin' hot - these two set the sheets on fire!

The Romance between these two was slow to build - while there was definite chemistry Josh was leery and was afraid to get his heart broken.  So, when Gabe is trying to pry open that closed door - Josh fights him, hard. Watching Josh learn to trust Gabe was a pivotal part of the story and even at the end of the book one he is still a little gun-shy, but he is trying and he deserves kudos for that!
"I raised my mouth for a kiss because he couldn’t talk if he was kissing me. He couldn’t tell me meaningless words that my heart would choose to cling to; the stupid organ didn’t know anything except a yearning to be loved and accepted."

Overall, a 5-star start to the series and I am ready for book 2!!

**Cliffhanger Alert**

All in all I liked it a lot, especially that it's from both Jazz and Gabe's POV. I'm especially glad in the edition I picked up for free on Amazon a little while ago, and the audio, included the original prequel story. and having the prequel Fatal Reaction makes all the difference in the world.

What also made a huge difference was Joel Leslie's narration. He makes it so that the emotion jumps off the page. It's very easy to follow along between the different characters with distinctive character voices, and it seems so effortless the way he's able to really punch up the storyline. Joel has the enviable ability to immerse himself and become the characters giving them passion and personality.

Three things I disliked: The time and scene jumps, Jazz's maddening hot/cold routine (which thankfully warms up by the end), and the cliffhanger. However, they are in no way stacked against the things I liked, or the narration I loved. I'm definitely grabbing book two!

3 stars story, 5 stars narration = 4 stars total

3 frustrating stars

80% of this book, yes 80%, was spent with Jazz being childish and giving serious mixed signals and Gabe not getting a frigging clue and walking away.

I normally enjoy this author's work and I kinda sorta liked this book too but I thought the interactions, and constant chasing by one MC for the other, was totally overplayed and at one point thought they were better suited NOT being together.

This felt like a story which was stretched/dragged out to make a book and it didn't inspire me to continue the series but they kinda got their shit together by the end so I *might* give book 2 a try.

I had high hopes for this but it didn't deliver IMO.

All the drama... I liked the title, but the drama not so much. This is book one of the series, and I will seriously reconsider reading book two. I just can't stand the hot and cold between the two. And the mystery was not that great.

2022 Review
I still enjoyed this. I skipped towards the end when I was about 80% through it because I was really just refreshing my memory about these characters so I could keep going with the series. I don't think I made it past book 3 my first go round so I hope to make it all the way this time. The prequel and book 1 are really good, but I stopped reading the series because it just became too much drama and it seemed to have changed from what it started out as. Fingers crossed I can enjoy the rest!

2017 Review
I LOVED this book! It was so cute and Josh is snarkalishous. LOL! :-D I just knew I was going to love this series and I was right. Gabe and Josh get off to a rough start and Josh isn't one to let people into his life easily. Gabe really has to work hard to get Josh to trust him and they don't even know if they like each other while they do know they are attracted to each other.

I highly recommend this book and you do need to read Fatal Reaction before you read this one as the prequel is referred to in this book. It's where Gabe and Josh get their snark on for the first time. *giggle snort*

I am already addicted to these two men and even the side characters Kyle (Gabe's ex) and Chaz (one of Josh's BFF), and Meredith (Josh's other BFF).

I have to tell you I was shocked to learn the identify of the killer, and so was everyone else. I had a lot of theories going on but I wasn't right until the end when all was revealed.

Josh's parrot (I forget its name) is just hilarious. Let's just say its vocabulary is perfect for Josh. :)

Josh and Gave are a great couple and Gabe is very understanding that Josh is gun shy from being hurt in his past. At times it was painful to see Gave try to win Josh over only to be turned down and away. They find their way to a happy ending, and are in "like" with each other. I completely enjoyed the ride to get there.

Great characters, great story, and great hair (heehee). I read this during my KU trial and am thinking of buying it (them); which is saying something because I am such a cheapo! I hope they come out on audio; the snark is soooo worthy of it. Enjoy!!

Dyeing to be Loved (Curl up and Dye Mysteries)

3 and ½ starts.

A somehow engaging story with a somewhat mysterious murder and a sometimes annoying MC comprise the summary of this book.

A detective in small town US, Gabe, falls for Josh, the flamboyant owner of the Curl Up and Dye salon, even when he’s not what Gabe believed to be his type.

Josh, a stylist with a phobia about relationships, cannot resist the hunky detective.

It was an ok book but nothing to call home about. I checked a couple of times to make sure I was actually reading the first book on the series and yes, I was. The reason I checked was because they had a history, these two, that could have easily been another book. Flasbacks are inserted in the story the way authors let the readers know about certain things that happened in a previous book when they are writing a stand-alone that’s part of a series. That’s why I was confused.

A Kindle Unlimited book that barely raised above my meh rating by keeping my attention till the end.

DNF at 9%, which might be a new record.

I really disliked the first and only Walker book I read, but that was, I believe, over a year ago, so here I was thinking maybe her writing had matured.

Not the first time I've been wrong.

"I drank my coffee and looked around the business with pride that I had built from scratch."

"...an ordinary booth you'd except to see at..."

"There had never been another guy who tied me up in so many knots than Josh did."

An enjoyable read about a small town hairdresser and the local detective who had a serious love hate hard on for each other. Josh was a little flighty and paranoid at times and Gabe was hard headed and stubborn - the result being a lot of on and off again moments, but finally once a little trust was shown things started to improve. Of course there was a murder to solve - which really wasn't much of a thriller, but the developing romance saved the day !

Meh, I had been anxiously waiting for this one on AUDIO, when I heard my FAVE Joel Leslie was narrating I was beyond excited. First part that irked me was there was a prequel - fine, but then it lead directly into book 1 and was really repetitive. I liked a bit of the banter, then Josh's attitude to Gabe got old. Yes he was rude at first but move on or forget it. The snippy attitude began to grate on me. Also my pet peeve is Insta-love/lust, although these two were not in-love per say- they were all for each other after the first meeting & that's just not my thing.

I enjoyed Joel's narration, not my favorite one of his books, but that had more to do with the content.

I think I may have been spoiled by a couple of excellent mystery series recently. Like ruined for a whole lot of other books of the same genre ...

This was entertaining enough, and it certainly kept my interest all the way, but not so much for the mystery plot as for the Gabe and Josh, and whatever blossoms between them.
If you are looking for a well developed 'whodunit', this is not it! (I could not believe who the culprit was and what they did to Gabe and Adrien!)

So is the romance worth it then?
I really enjoyed the initial enemies vibe going on between the two of them, and had a good chuckle at Josh's quick, smart mouth.
But the hot/cold treatment he gives Gabe starts to get a bit wearing after a while. I failed to understand why Gabe doesn't give up to go after Josh after their second sexual encounter. He plans to, and, I freely admit it, I really wanted Josh to get payback for the way he treats Gabe.

For all he may have suffered in the past at the hands of guys 'like Gabe' (talk about throwing every guy in the same pot of' douchebagness'!), there is absolutely no excuse for what he pulls off with Gabe, who in my eyes is a genuinely nice guy who tries everything to get into Josh's good books!

Josh DOES behave like a blooming queen, but oh! my!, when Gabe mentions that in an argument, does he fly off the handle! It felt like Gabe has to walk on egg-shells just to be able to be near Josh. (And WTH is so bad about being a queen, anyway! If I in any way could, I would LOVE to be one! Looking at you Helena Handbasket!)

Eventually the guys do talk and things are sorted, and yes, they are hot together, but I am not sure if I have forgiven Josh totally for his behaviour...

However, I did enjoy all the crazy characters, the funny pets and the small town frame of mind.
In a way this is a 'soft and easy' version of a mystery romance.
I might go for one more book and see how it develops!

4 stars in the rating, but it is a very clear 3,5!

It's not me - it's the book.

I don't get how this book ended up with such a high rating at goodreads. Ok, the plot and setting seem promising when you read the blurb.
There's the manly, buff but soft-hearted police detective, his love interest is a slightly feminine, somewhat high strung hair dresser who keeps his butt bubbly with yoga and pole dancing. And then murder happens in the small Ohio town where the story is set. That could have been a good story. It should have been. But sadly the author ruined everything by means of very bad writing.

This book could be taken as a bad show case for people who want to see the difference about telling and showing. This is how it should NOT be done. This is telling all the way. The language seems like out of a middle school creative writing class - very stilted, mechanical and immature. The telling keeps the reader always on the surface, emotions hardly ever come across. The sex scenes read like litany.

The characters could have been engaging, but alas are not. The detective is a spine-less sort who always comes back for more beating. The hair dresser is endlessly annoying. Whenever he is angry he starts swaying his hips in an exaggerated manner. He keeps lashing out verbally and has a push and pull tactic towards the detective that I can not find anything but exasperating.

Anyone can guess now that I am not planning to continue this series.

So, this book was...okay. I tried to read it once before when it didn't come with the prequel (Fatal Reaction) and I DNFed it because I felt like I was missing a chunk of the story. Now if you download it from Amazon you get the prequel (I actually had to mess around with the support desk for a bit because mine kept downloading the old version, but we got it worked out--thanks support helpdesk person!), which helped, although the prequel wasn't exactly what I expected (I had gotten the impression that their relationship was more extensive than it actually was).

And, honestly, I wasn't really impressed with this book. I wanted to be, but I wasn't. Some of it was because parts of it was offensive ("gypsy blood"...why was that even necessary?, the constant refrain that Josh wasn't feminine in any way, even though I fail to see what they meant by that if anything is understood to be feminine at all), and parts of it was jut rather overly manufactured drama. I wanted to roll my eyes at the two of them a lot. Like, okay, if you two are choosing to do that, it's your business, but I don't actually choose to care.

So I thought this was going to be a series that I'd invest in while I have Kindle Unlimited, but I actually forgot that I'd read it until I was going over the books I hadn't reviewed (oops!), and I think that says something about my level of investment in the series. So while Kindle Unlimited may make further books in the series low investment money wise, time is a finite resource, and I think I'm going to save mine.

I might have read this book, at some point. Could have been a few chapters. Here I was thinking I started at book 3. Guess I was looking for more ghost stories. I know they aren't monster's. The theme of this year's reading choice. There are more monster's that make ghost. Than their are ghost looking to scyphon life to continue to stay on this plane.

Okay this second read of the book I enjoyed it a lot more than the first time, I was still annoyed at how Josh would push Gabe away all the time. But I hear the series gets better so I wanted to start again!

Now on to book two!

3 stars... maybe closer to 2.5 honestly..

The beginning of the book hooked me in, and unfortunately it lost some of that initial spark as I continued haha

If there was a theme song for this book it would be “Hot N’ Cold” by Katy Perry. I swear it felt like whiplash with Josh pushing Gabe away and getting him back... and by getting him back I mean just getting him back in his pants, they didn’t really feel as if they had a relationship more than sex... I didn’t feel the connection between them which I am bummed about. It would show up occasionally but then go away when josh over reacted, when he thought he didn’t but we all know he did...

Overall it was okay, not sure if I will continue the series even though it kinda ends in a cliffhangerish..

Why Gabe even wanted a relationship with Josh I don't know? He was exhausting. Someone keeps rejecting me like that I'm out! I liked Josh sometimes but he annoyed me also.

Definiately a book to "dye" for. I love Aimee Nicole Walker's writing and she has a great start to this series. I love Detective Gabe Wyatt and Josh as a couple. The mystery was compelling and there were many canidates that could have done the murder.

When I first started reading, I thought I'd missed the first book along the way when it kept referring back to another murder that had happened before this book. So I never figured that out. I assumed it was just part of the book and there wasn't any story before this book.

Anyway, I loved the book and would highly recommend it.

Audiobook review

Full disclosure; I read the print version of this book about a year ago and was very conflicted. I really enjoyed the story, the people, the town and not to forget I just loved and adored Savage! I'm his fan for life! But, the writing, or more importantly the lack of editing, completely destroyed the book for me. So when I had the opportunity to listen to the audio version narrated by Joel Leslie, I decided I wanted to give it another try. I mean Gabe and Josh are just a lot of fun, and I do love the rest of the series.

The verdict you ask? Well, Joel Leslie truly amazes me. He brings this book alive, he saved it! So I highly recommend skipping to read this book and listen to the audio instead. Really worth it! the only thing that didn't work for me was Leslie's impersonation of Savage, but that's so minor in the whole scheme of things that I might just forgive him ;)

I was a bit surprised when the audiobook started out with the prequel, Fatal Attraction. On the one hand it was good to get the back story to how Josh and Gabe met. Who they were and get to know Blissville a little. On the other hand, large parts of Fatal Attraction is quoted verbatim in the actual book. And since you’ve just spent the last hour or so listening to it, it gets a bit tedious to listen to it all over again especially if you're listening for longer periods at a time and not just a little here and there.

Once again murder shakes the small town of Blissville. A friend of Josh's is found murdered so death once again brings detective Gabe to the doorstep of his salon. (The first time being in the prequel.) The mystery itself was good, there were many threads to follow up on and I can honestly say that I was surprised to learn who the killer turned out to be. Reading all those Agatha Christie books didn't help me at all in this case ;)

I'm a bit conflicted about my feelings towards Josh in this book. At times he's a lot of fun, cares deeply for the people around him and has the ability to see the beauty in people where others only sees ugliness (and I'm not talking looks here). I love that kind of genuine people. But I also had a hard time with how he treated Gabe. This hot and cold for most of the book drove me up the wall at times, and he really didn't treat Gabe as he should've. I mean how long are you supposed to pay for an off-hand comment, or even worse, the mistakes of others?

Now Gabe on the other hand was much more, dare I say, stable (I do fear Josh might just come around and bitch-slap me) of the two. Sure he could be an insensitive jerk, but he was also quick to learn and trying to make amends. He made mistakes - he was human (aren't we all?). But what I loved was that he was honest about it and tried to do better. I admire his immense patience when dealing with Josh. And it paid off in the end.

The book ends with a solid HFN for Gabe and Josh, but a part of the mystery ended with a cliff-hanger and will continue in the next book... So until then!
