As tensions continue to escalate between the U. S. Army and the Comanche, members of the Rivers family find themselves involved on multiple fronts of the “Red River War.” Josh Rivers discovers his efforts to covertly negotiate on behalf of his newest client have been exposed, and now he finds himself looking over his shoulder, even in the relative safety of Santa Fe. Meanwhile, his journalist sister, Tabitha, is embedded with Colonel Ranald “Bad Hand” Mackenzie’s forces on the eve of battle. What begins as a ploy to sell more newspapers, quickly spirals into a series of life-changing events as the opposing sides converge in the Texas Panhandle.
In Mouth of Hell, the second book of The Law Wranglers series, the unexpected paths that each take lead to a long sought after answer for the Rivers family.
Ron Schwab is the author of the popular Western series, The Law Wranglers, The Coyote Saga, and The Lockes, as well as several standalone novels, including Grit, a winner of the Western Fictioneers Peacemaker Award for Best Western Novel, and Cut Nose, a finalist for the Western Writers of America Best Western Historical Novel. He is a member of the Western Writers of America, Western Fictioneers, and Mystery Writers of America.
Ron’s earlier published works included the suspense novels, Crocodile Fears and The Buddy System, both printed under a pseudonym, Michael J. Stewart. He is a member of the Western Writers of America, Western Fictioneers, and Mystery Writers of America.
Ron and his wife, Bev, divide their time between their home in Fairbury, Nebraska and their cabin in the Kansas Flint Hills.
All considered, this story has real heart to present truths about the native american and how other Americans felt and dealt with each other. Characters are strong and story line righteous!
I am certainly glad that I read some of his other books before I read this series. I have mixed feelings. Ron Schwab is a talented writer and enables you to enjoy and know his characters well. Josh is the first character I don’t care for. I don’t think he’s worthy of being a lawyer and all he thinks about is sex and who he can do it with. On the other hand I’ve enjoyed very much Abby, Marty, Tabitha, and Cal I guess —he also is somewhat of a sexual deviate but he finally settled down. I could be wrong but I think women have more time to read and there are more women that read these westerns. I didn’t care much for the great detail regarding mutilation by the Comanche. I know it was real. This story will be interesting to see where it goes with Josh and his long lost son, Flying Crow. You know if Josh could just have sex with Jael every night—problem solved! Liked White Wolf and I hope he and Tabitha hit it off. This book was written in 2016 so there’s not much hope of the series changing.
Is Ron Schwab the new Louis L'Amour of Western writers? No, but his Law Wranglers series of books are good enough and enjoyable enough that I've already read the first two and purchased the next three. His female and male characters are strong, tough, and admirable. His Commanche and other Native American characters are presented as real people, not cardboard cutout savages. His settings, especially when drawing the Staked Plains are so real you'll smell the dust.
It's likely when I finish this series I'll try his others. To make that easy, many of the first and second books in his series are free from Amazon.
Josh and Jessica are still having their best adventures
Josh's law firm finds the mole that's been turning in information to Josh's enemies fires Hooter they also hire Tara from the court when she turns in her resignation there as she's a fine clerk and they need a new one. She is trustworthy and a friend so the office is now complete for the time being. Josh can rest easily now that things are organized and he and Cal need to go on to fort Sill to set up things with general McKenzie about quana. This will take several weeks maybe even months depending on the weather as it is the winter time.
I nearly put this book and series down, but continued to march through. IT wasn't that the main story was badly written, it was the plethora of sex scenes. I don't have a problem with sex scenes when they make sense in the context of the story, but when they seem to just try to appeal to your prurient side - I read something else.
With that said, after I passed over the multiplicity of carnal presentations, I liked the book.
If you have a family rated inclination to stories, this probably isn't for you.
Law Wranglers is a really good series. The plots are great and well thought out. What I like best, however is the characters. They are not Saints, nor Wimps. They are real people with real personalities, and real morals... or the lack of them. No person is looked at as perfect. They seem so natural. I really am enjoying this series and this author.
Perfect follow up for Deal with the Devil. Mouth of Hell gives you more of the Comanche's life style and culture. Schwab weaves the fabric of the story with characters of Deal with the Devil. I felt empathy for them all and enjoyed the read so much I bought the series. I just wasn't able to leave them all behind. Well done and we'll worth the price!
Thr story continues, I am hooked. You knew I would be though. Get the book and continue with me. Indians, Navajo, Comanche, Apache, the Dine. My keyboard don't make that funny thing that Mr. Schwab puts over one of the letters in the Dine. Anyway come along you'll be glad you did. Ffank
This twisting and unimaginable story is a non-stop, page turning read, It is filled with action and intrigue, Multiple races entertwain and show how love bridges everything. What a humanitarian saga that traces the real lines of American western history albiet it is fiction. I loved the build up of suspense as this book came to an end.
I’m The only other alternative,. a that this a The only you that I know is me I. And The only way your tive I can co believers will see I’ll a good ending would have Josh and she who speaks w would MARRY and they could work out the difficulties they encountered that makes any sense. I can’t get any better.not
Beautifully written story with high adventure, much more sexuality than is believable for that time period, but characters wonderfully drawn and appealing. Can hardly wait for the next book!
This is a great read. Tantalizing, believable, exciting. Have already read the first book and now this one and have just ordered the third in the series. Can't wait to get started. I would recommend this series to anyone interested in Western lore. You will not be disappointed.
Well done! Read of a family rooted in the Sante Fe region before true civilization. Each has been affected by Indian wars, and white man's reaction to Indians in the West. See how each lives and loves.
If you want a dramatic ending to a good story, it isn't here. Leaves you with a good cliffhanger that will lead to the next book. The over the top sex that marred the first volume has lessened.
This the second book in the series is just as good as the first one, so I am beginning to like this author. Can´t wait to get started on the next one in the series. Good coordination with real history and real people.
Excellent writing. Character development progressed continuously throughout the well developed plot. My only issue is with the abruptness of the ending. I can only presume the author has plans for plot resolutions in a future story. At least, I hope so.
Went right from the first in the series into the second. I actually liked this one more than the first. I enjoyed reading about a period of history that I know very little about. Fun reading.
