Bad Things #3

Undead or Alive

Rate this book
Don't fear Death. Desire him.

Cassius "Cass" Garvan is the last Reaper. One of the baddest of the bad...Cass can literally kill with a touch. He's the bounty hunter who always brings in his prey, undead or alive. This time, he has a new target...the all-too-tempting Amber Fortune. Hunting her down was the easy part. Giving her up? Cass isn't so sure that he can let her go.

Amber has been on the run for decades, and she isn't about to surrender herself to the Reaper. Sure, maybe she does have a weakness for bad boys. Maybe she does like guys who have dark sides--and a man can't get darker than Death. And when Cass kisses her, she doesn't fear his touch. She wants him. Wanting a Reaper can be a very dangerous thing.

When Amber finds herself trapped with the Reaper for forty-eight hours, she knows that she is in for the most dangerous time of her very long life. If she hopes to escape the torment coming her way, then Amber has to convince Cass to let her escape. Does Death have a heart? Amber is about to find out. She'll use every trick in her playbook to get Cass on her side. But even as she works to seduce him, Amber has to be very careful and not let Cass break through her control. Because everyone knows...

Once you fall for Death, there is no turning back.

4 - "If you think you're bad enough..." Stars!

Cynthia Eden, once again strikes PNR gold with the Bad Things series, as usual Undead or Alive was a book I picked up and pretty much didn’t put down again until I had finished it.

This book kind of diverted off the original storyline of the series a little in that Cass Garvan wasn’t the character I was expecting to be up next, in fact book four Broken Angel I think was originally up as the third book, so I am guessing inspiration struck the author and she went with it.

"What can I say? I have talent."

And I am so glad she did as Cass and Ambers’ book was a real treat to read, it included a bit of page time for Luke and Leo as well, so the development of their relationship as brothers/enemies is given more depth, as well as a decent suspense aspect to Amber’s character it kept the story rolling along at a steady clip.

"I’ve finally got something worth fighting for."

Add in a bit of insta-love, plenty of twists and turns on the plot, and this was another Cynthia Eden book that I did not struggle to read.

"The world can’t keep going unless you’re in it… Not my world."

Great continuation to the series, I am still excited for Rayce’s book though, so hurry up December!

Copy gifted by the author, and it was a pleasure to say thanks with a review.

Undead Or Alive is book 3 in the Bad Things series and featuring the Reaper, Cass and Amber. I won't say much about Amber because her identity is kept secret until you get close to the end. What I can tell you is that she is in hiding from Luke and Leo.

If you aren't familiar with the series, Luke and Leo are twins born for one to rule the Light and one to rule the dark. Luke, who rules the dark, asked the Reaper to find Amber and bring her back to him. It's kept pretty quiet as to why Luke and Leo are searching for Amber and what exactly he will do with her once the Reaper delivers her.

Cass brokers a deal with Luke that if he brings Amber to him, he wants a mate that he can touch without killing. As the Reaper, all he has to do is touch someone and they die. He wears special gloves so that he can safely touch others. He's lived a long and lonely life and he is ready to take a mate. Luke agrees to the deal but what Cass wasn't expecting was to fall for Amber and his protectiveness rears up.

I'm absolutely loving this series. The titles of the series make it sound like it would be a pretty dark read, but looks can be deceiving. This is actually a very safe series to read. The dark paranormal species are actually quite honorable. I really love the fact that the author is pairing up couples where one is from the light and one from the dark. I highly recommend this series if you enjoy paranormal.

Yesss to Reapers! Give me a tortured bad boy any day! and if he has also a scythe even better 🤣🤣🖤

Cass and Amber were awesome. He is Death himself, but under that title he is just a lonely , sad, sometimes awkward and angry man. Amber is a mystery until the very end, but I ll tell you a secret, she is very important.

Cute, entertaining romantic suspense. Love Cynthia Eden books🖤🖤🖤

You have got to love a Reaper - dangerous and hot Reaper Cass brokers a deal with the devil - Luke. He agrees to locate a woman (Amber) who Luke is determined to find, but only if Luke finds him his mate, a woman who he can touch without killing her, and who will silence the loneliness that now shadows him. What Cass doesn't expect is to be so fiercely drawn to the woman who is his bounty. As he finds himself consumed by Amber and Amber finds comfort and safety in his arms, Amber's secrets and his enemies dodge their footsteps - bringing the threat of death closer and closer.

For me Cynthia Eden hits the right notes with this read. Both main characters individually and together are enjoyable and had me cheering for them.

A very enjoyable re-read - it made me smile more than once and had me engaged.

What a great series! The books just keep getting better and better. I loved this one and even figured out the little secret earlier but didn't care. It only added to the story when it was revealed. Such emotion! I love it!

Cass is the Reaper, the bringer of Death. Luke has hired him to bring in a woman by the name of Amber. If he does, Luke will grant him the one thing he's always wanted; to have a mate he can actually touch, since anyone who is touched by his hands, dies instantly. Cass agrees and sets out to bring Amber back to Luke.

I loved every moment of this book. Every interaction between Cass and Amber, loved the interactions with Luke, hated the villain but loved how that was resolved, and absolutely adored the ending!!! Can't wait to read the next one in this series.

WOW! I loved this one! LOVE LOVE LOVE!

This was fantastic! Cynthia Eden never fails to keep me hooked. In this book, she introduces some new paranormal creatures, and they’re really cool.

Cass isn’t just known as Reaper, he is the Reaper. The only one. The last one. And he’s very powerful. Luke (he’s been in all the books- basically he’s the Lord of all things Dark) uses him as a bounty hunter, but they don’t deal in money, they deal in magic. Cass has had some…magical upgrades. But being Death can be lonely. This time, when Luke asks him to look for someone, Cass’ price is a mate. He wants someone he can touch without killing.

Amber is working as a bartender on Halloween when she looks up and sees Cass coming straight for her. She bolts. She doesn’t know who he is, but she knows he’s there for her. She bolts.

Cass can track her anywhere. Luke wants her, he’ll deliver. That is, until he realizes no price is worth turning Amber over to Luke. Luke isn’t exactly known for his compassion, and while Cass doesn’t know why Luke wants her, he knows he can’t turn her over. And when he discovers Luke’s brother Leo (Lord of all things light) also wants Amber, he begins to wonder what they want with her.

Amber isn’t talking. She knows Cass is going to deliver her to Luke, or that Leo will grab her on the way. Her goal is to stay alive and away from the brothers. And in the meantime, there’s an attack from someone they never saw coming.

This is one where you really wonder how Cass is going to get them out of trouble. I had an inkling about Amber, but I was way off, so well done, Cynthia Eden. I was surprised at the end.

The book can stand alone, but if you’ve read the first two books, you’ll get more out of it. I hope you guys grab this novella, because it’s worth it. With a mysterious heroine, a lonely hero, and a suspenseful storyline, you can’t go wrong!

I think I may have said this a couple of times before, however I feel it pertinent to say it again and that is, that I love this series.

The first book in the series The Devil In Disguise was so brilliant that I didn't expect the second book On The Prowl to be as good, turns out I was wrong with that one because it was great, but I honestly did not even know that this book Undead or Alive was happening yet or ever, so imagine my surprise when I receive a newsletter saying there's a third book just in time for Halloween and that this is it. Well as you can imagine, I wept with joy, (not really but I had the feels) and I literally skipped on over to Amazon and bought this little gem.

Now as you can tell, I didn't read it in time for Halloween, (my bad) but to be fair you don't really need to, it is Halloween in the book but not mentioned that often for it to really matter. Plus it really is a book you can read whenever.

So I started reading and boy was it a read. I love paranormal romances. I have done for a long time. This was just as good as the first two.

So, we have Cass (aka Death) and Amber. Cass is a bounty hunter hired by the devil himself, Luke Thorne, to find Amber and bring her back to him. Alive.

The trouble with Cass is that his touch is deadly. He literally has the touch of death. So imagine his surprise when Luke insists he bring Amber back alive. Hard enough for someone who only has to poke someone to kill them, add in the fact that as soon as Cass sees Amber, he wants her.
Over the course of the book, there's bloodshed, drama and enough tension to fill a balloon. It wouldn't be a paranormal romance without a bit of action right?

I enjoyed the characters, although Amber did annoy me at times mainly it was frustration at the secrecy. She is a headstrong character though and this portrayed really well. Cass is the hot alpha you shouldn't want but really fancy the pants off of him. They suit each other really well, there's enough banter and to-ing and fro-ing to give it that edgy chemistry between them.

And there's also the very hot main characters from the first and second book, Luke and Leo. Winner.

The story is what wins it for me though. However I won't divulge more because ya know....spoilers!

Happy Reading :-)

Once more, from the get-go, I was invested in this story. Luke making a deal with Cassius to find a woman? What hidden agenda did Luke have now? Why did he want this woman found? Why was Leo after her as well? How had she hidden herself from both brothers? What did she mean to both of them? All these questions needed answers. So of course, I had to read this book.

Cassius was extraordinary. I loved his voice and he was intriguing and fierce. And his affliction? Falling for the very woman he had to hand over to Luke. And you didn’t break a deal with the devil and go off scot-free. I totally commiserated with him.

Amber was a mystery and I really liked her a lot. She was so likeable. She had to make tough decisions for herself and she didn’t expect sympathy from anyone. She accepted her lot, did what she had to do. She was stoic and brave and cool.

I have to admit I’d expected Rayce’s story next but the way Cynthia Eden writes Cassius’s character, you can’t help but love him. Add in a courageous heroine as a counterpart and an intriguing storyline? Perfect. Plus, we get to see meddling Luke and annoying Leo again. What fun!

Each time I read one of Cynthia Eden’s paranormal romances, I get blown away by the plot-line and the suspense and mystery so cleverly crafted in the story. She has an excellent imagination and Undead or Alive hit the bulls’ eye once again.

When the Reaper is assigned a mission to find a woman and return her, alive, he didn´t expect her to be just what he needed, but Amber is proving him wrong. Can Cass complete his task, and give her up in the end?
Amber has found a way to stay under the radar, until Cass comes along. Now she´s got 48 hours to delay him from delivering her, or all is lost. But can she resist the feelings that grow between them?
When danger comes lurking, they´ll have to join forces to survive..
PNR Romance, action, suspense and smutty fluff in an awesome combo.
Disclaimer; I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review. Love this series, so I´d gladly buy my own copy <3

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I began reading this. I follow Eden on Facebook so I knew this was a sort of “surprise” book she hoped to get out in time for Halloween. I assumed since it wasn’t planned exactly, that it would be a side book in this world without much big reveals that could affect any of our beloved characters. How wrong I was. This fit in perfectly and I loved how many scenes we got with Luke and Leo. I loved what was discovered in here and to be honest, I think Amber and Cass might be my favourite couple. The feelings that grew between them felt real and deep. Their back stories well thought out and I was cheering for them the whole way. This had great action, romance and suspense. A must read for fans of this series!

The Reaper’s in the house *fist bump*. This is Cass, he’s the reaper and the last of his kind. To say that he’s socially awkward may be an understatement, but he’s also adorably awkward. He just wants a mate that he can touch with his hands...awwwweeeeee. Since he is death, and holds all the power of the reapers, anything he touches dies...oh and did I mention he couldn’t die, yeah, there’s that fun fact too. So really a badass, wait, did I also mention his tattoo of a scythe is magical and the scythe he uses....yup....total freaking badass. I think our twins may even be a bit weary of him. And I may have a teeny, tiny crush on him too😉. He is sent out to retrieve someone, Amber, for my Luke. And with this deal, comes a bit of a shit storm. Gotta love out of control paranormals, makes for a great book.

This was a safe read with an adorably socially awkward Reaper that’s a badass and the sweet woman that falls hard for him. These two had a lot of chemistry and dare I say there were some shower shenanigans. These two will also pull at your heartstrings. There are new enemies in this book, we get to see many of our favorites, like my Luke and gain a few new favorites...like my Reaper...I know, I know, kinda being stingy *shrugs shoulders*. Just like the previous books, so much goes on and twist at every turn. Oh, oh, oh...I know a super secret *jumps up & down* ...you totally gotta read this book crack series...seriously, I just can’t get enough. Feel like I should be sending Cynthia Eden a virtual fruit basket.

(Update: 9 Jun 22) Adding extra tags/shelves. I'm finally organizing more lol.

This one was such a fun read, especially finding Luke's hidden family 🤣.

Cass had such a hard life. Honestly, Amber too. I thought they are perfect for each other! I love how Cass took a role as her protector & helped her with Luke problem too.

Though that reveal in the last few chap was awesome!

Amazing!!!

Loved every bit of this story. Cass, death himself, the Reaper with hands of death. Amber a very important hybrid, light and darkness and an important secret that she can never reveal. A reaper and his hybrid. Wonderfully written. I have yet to read a book by Eden that is short of nothing but perfect!!! Loved it! 5 stars!!!!

Thought the next book was about Royce. This one has two new characters and they are the best couple, yet. Loved Amber and a reaper is always irresistible. Cass is dark and mysterious but Amber is even more enigmatic than him and hiding some powerful secrets. This series is getting better and better.

Finished, review to come.

Review day is here!!!

Review 4 of 5.

4.5 Untochable stars

My second favourite book in the series.

Following the events of book 1, Luke and Leo are gearing up, with Leo going after his angel who had been captured, but is now free and wants nothing to do with him, plot of book 4 which I think I will be reading next. But in the midst of it, Luke needs Cassius “Cass” Garvan, grim reaper, last of his kind, badass with a body described as whoa, to track down someone for him. Cass usually brings his prey in, most times dead, but Luke wants this skip brought in alive. But, even when Luke is making the deal, if you always read between the lines like I do, you know Cass is being set up because that deal was way too easy.

So, Cass is to catch Amber Fortune. Haha, that name. Amber has some power in her, but for all intents and purposes comes off as a human, a lie she tries to pass off to Cass, who doesn't buy it. Then, they now start making their way back to Luke, but with the threat of Leo looming over them, that arsehole, and Cass's long time "brother" turning into a bad seed.

So, towards the end, we find out what Amber really is, a fairy and why Luke and Leo both wanted her back, together with resolving the issues of Cass being the last of his kind and the fact he couldn't touch anyone, which, by the way did not take away from their excellent smut scene, that involved the breaking of some bed slats. *Sigh* second book boyfriend of the series.

Then, as a parting shot, the book sort of came from left field, because I was expecting the next book to be for Angel+Rayce, but nonetheless, it was a good read, and when it ends, you sort of hope Leo gets his own book, because you see Luke is finally understanding the cause of his temper tantrum ways.

Re read on may 2024

Oh why did i decided to re read this series. It's bad. It's cliché as hell and cringy and repetitive. The world around could be interesting but not developped enough. But since i wanted to read about the angel (next book) and needing something easy and quick i picked up the series again ... And i'm regretting it lol. Clearly my tastes have changed but i'm a bit bummed that it's at this point ^^

I'm so glad i started this serie, i'm having so much fun reading it ! The characters are really interesting and i'm always surprised (that's what i like the most).
Cass was very sweet and fierce. Amber was really interesting and a good addition to the story.
Reading this one i wasn't less sold on reading about Leo but know i can't wait !
I'm just confused a little because after finishing it, i still don't understand why Amber was so hell bent on hiding though ... It just don't really make sense.
Anyway, can't wait to know more about this world and i love seeing that bad isn't so bad and good isn't so good either !

How utterly delicious this series is! I commented to you today, that is has been total escapism for me. I mean I never thought I would be saying that I would love to meet the Grim Reaper in all his glory, go live on an island with the Devil himself, surrounded by Shifters and Angels, but, after reading Book 3, Undead or Alive, that’s exactly where my thoughts are going. This book was an unexpected but very welcome addition, to what is my favourite paranormal series to date.

Teena and I are fully invested in this series. Come on over to Scandalicious Book Reviews to read our thoughts

Everyone knows I'm a Cynthia Eden fan-girl. This book is no exception. It's not a long story, but boy does she pack a lot into this book. I loved Reaper. He was so desperate for love, so aching for it, that you couldn't help but cheer for him. I had my suspicions about Amber and the motives of the man behind the set up, I was grateful they were correct. I LOVED this story and plan to re-read it in a few days. For now, I'm going to savor the feeling. I so needed the escape.

Another great book in this series. What an eventful 48 hours they were for Cass and Amber.
There were such sweet moments and heartbreaking ones too.
And we got to see a little of Mina too!
I’m going to keep this review short because I don’t want to give too much away.

And also because I stayed up reading this and it’s now 7:56am and I think I’ll go take a nap thinking of how this one’s my favourite in the series so far.
