ATF special agents, Thayne Wolfe, and his partner, Jarrett Evans, have gotten into sticky situations in the past but nothing prepares them for the daunting task of being loaned out to a coal mine in West Virginia where Jarrett’s grown up. Investigating a deadly mining explosion may be the end of them yet.

In one of the most beautiful places on earth, Jarrett is familiar with the territory, growing up working in a nearby mine for a couple years before joining the Marine Corps just after high school. When he and his partner encounter a dubious mine CEO, two ATF agents who they’re tasked to investigate, and a good ‘ol boy who has a pickaxe to grind, all they can hope, is to solve this case before ending up dead and buried in that mine.

From the beaches of California, to the coal-rich mountains of Appalachia, Jarrett’s dubious past seems to rear its ugly head wherever they go. Join our heroes as they are forced to face danger, fear, and maybe the most frightening thing they’ve ever faced together… family.

This book is definitely better than the previous 2 books for me. I find it hard to connect with Thayne and Jarret as a couple and this book helped me a lot with this. The personal side of this story features not only s*e*x but also family ties and connections as much as Jarret's past which until now is really shady and makes him a dark horse. I liked that he was more open about himself and it made him more approachable for me and easier to like. Thayne on the other hand is very much an open book and the way he is with Jarret and his family really endeared him to me. So I am liking them more and more.

As far as the case goes this one was absorbing, well-researched and well-written. The whole situation with mine workers and the mine itself shows not only the one person problem but the issues in the entire town and how the corruption and deceit affect everybody both as a whole and as individuals. It's a crime against miners' community and all their families. The support system is amazing among them and it helps Jarrett and Thayne to work faster and actually facilitates their way into the heart of the problem and finding its solution. I would have liked a little less of the coal mine lingo but I guess it was unavoidable in order to make it more genuine. The second part of the book was a page turner and I enjoyed it very much, it was the build up to it that was a little slow moving for me.

Another small issue I had with this book was a tad too much inner monologue done by both MCs. I would have liked more conversation rather than internal musings spanning several pages at a time. It made me slightly impatient and I almost gave into the urge to skim *unforgivable finger twitch* some paragraphs. But I resisted.

Otherwise I truly enjoyed both Tayne and Jarret and their recent adventure and I can say that I would love to read more bout them. I will recommend it!

I swear this series just gets better with each book. I am just more and more impressed with this Authors writing each time I get through another book in this series. The amount of Research and effort she very obviously puts into these books is amazing. Like with the last book we learned a good deal of information about Fireworks. This book you get such a great deal of information about Mines, how they run properly, and the wording for different procedures and for things you would encounter in the mines. But besides all that knowledge the structure of these stories is fantastic. Its almost like they are Real Account Stories and Not Just Fiction. You get everything. Other than learning about different aspects of the things Thane and Jarrett have to deal with during their time in the ATF, you get some Humor, parts that will make you laugh out loud. Romance, the Relationship that is developing between the two men. And every single book keeps you in Suspense at the end needing to know what is going to happen to them next. I felt like this book delved even more into their relationship as a couple as well, and we see them strengthen and evolve as just "partners" to something even more and the way it progresses is just great to see.. I cannot wait to hear how the next one turns out!!
Audio - Listening to Michael Pauley during this narration was so Exciting. He puts such effort into all of the books he narrates but this one has been moved up to the top as one of my favorites now. I literally found myself on-edge, yelling at the Audio, close to the end of this book just trying to get him to hurry up to find out what happened next in the story. lol. . I haven't read the E-books, I've only listened to the Audios in this series, which I think, for me made the feeling of listening to them so much better and I will enjoy listening to them over and over.

Yes, I finally got my "I love yous" even though my boys were trapped in a collapsed mine shaft. The boys have been struggling since book 2 with letting their feelings show. But deep down in their hearts they knew that they were the one for each other.

The storyline is moving along smoothly and I hope Jarrett's Dad doesn't have "an accident" now that he has reconnected with his family. The mysterious higher up has sent a new viper after Jarrett but now Thayne is in the line of fire also. We'll just have to see what awaits our wonderful ATF agents.

Book 3 in a series that must be read in order to understand.

As we move to book 3 in The Death And Destruction Series we're all waiting for that one thing.

Here's the series review:

Just when you think Patricia Logan can't get any better and you can't possibly love a couple more than the one in the book you just read, you search Logan's catalogue and uncover more magic. Pure, emotional, heart stopping, page turning passion heat and true love!

The story of Jarett and Thayne is one you'll never see coming. It'll blow you away with its page turning twists.

You will never expect the way they each grow as individuals and how epically Patricia Logan writes the two men. Both of these two men are hurt by life in their own way.

Thayne is angry he has to be in Witsec after being undercover for two years. Thayne works for the ATF. His last mission to get one of the world's most dangerous criminals was brutal. Thayne has experienced great loss while he has been gone. He's angry at his boss, the ATF and the arms dealer he had to be around for 2 years.

All Thayne wanted was peace. His boss had other ideas assigning the white haired and blue eyed mysterious Jarret Evans to be in charge of his safety until Thayne had to testify against his tormentor.

Jarret, a man you will no doubt love, was just as much as beaten down by life as Thayne. As a former Marine sniper, Jarret has faced his great share of loss from his time in the Marine Corps. He is jaded and has never believed a man like him could ever find true love. You will read this story and be right there with Jarret and know his mind as well as you know your own.

You will live in this story as the world building the author writes is perfection. This is why I love Gay Romance!

Follow Thayne and Jarret along as they find themselves, let down their walls and find love. After all, love is all that matters. They are truly soul mates in every sense of the word. The author captures the real moments that happen when a couple falls in love. I appreciate that.

This is one of my favorite stories and my favorite couple. Talk about Boyfriend Goals! Everyone will want to watch Thayne and Jarret together. It's pure enjoyment from start to finish in this entire series!!

Entertaining story of two hot ATF agents solving cases and smooching in their down time. 10 book series, must be read in order. Great characters, nice growth and development over the course of the series, lovely side characters, friends and family. I read the first 5 books a while ago and I wished I had kept notes to give this series a proper review. I know I loved the characters and the couple and that the cases were interesting and exciting. The hair salon was awesome and totally memorable, even years later. Some undercover assignments, everyone a bit broken due to the nature of their work, taking chances and being reckless on the job to get results.

These books need to be read close together, at least read through book 6 before taking any large breaks. The long-term plot has a lot of twists, turns, betrayals and characters. Due to the betrayal storyline, they understandably don’t want the culprit too easy to identify, so there are a TON of characters. I took a large break between books 5 and 6 and unknowingly deprived myself the joy of the big reveal, since I had forgotten who most of the side characters were. As everything was unraveled and explained in book 6, I barely had any idea what they were talking about. My fault completely. Learn from my mistake, don’t take any long breaks until after book 6!!!!! I read the first 5 books over three months, then read book 6 nearly 2 years later. Don’t do that.

Reviewed as a series, each book is a 4-5 on its own, with the entire series coming in as a solid 5. Great writing, excellent banter and conversations, interesting investigations, great action scenes with tough guys and beautiful hurt/comfort moments when cases fall apart.

Contemporary, vers, m/m, finished series, must read in order, ATF, federal agents, HFN during series, HEA in book 7.

4.5 Stars. This series just keeps getting better IMO. I really love Jarrett and Thayne and how the relationship between them is developing. Lots of action and suspense in these books and in this one we also get quite a bit of interaction with Jarrett's family. I'm intrigued by the plot line that is being carried through these books about who is out to kill Jarrett and why. This is fast becoming one of my go to series and I can't wait to read more!

Ok so, I'm starting to get a bit bored by this series...Don't get me wrong the sex is still amazing, and the mystery is interesting enough, but I think the books are losing some spark. There is too much sex, the plot is way too simple, and the books are too long....

I'll keep reading only bcs I don't wanna have another "dead body" in my reading list, but meh, I was expecting much more from all the high ratings reviews I saw.

Still, I'm giving 4 stars (kind of), bcs the author writes well, also if sometimes it seems to be reading a worst copy of Zane and Ty from the series written by Abigail Roux.

Bah.

Why oh why is this story trying to be a little brother of the legendary Cut & Run series?

There were soooo many tiny things that made me think of Ty and Zane.
Why does Jarrett need to sing like an angel? Why was he born in West Virginia? Why was his father a coal miner?
Don't get me wrong. The storys are not at all alike. But the background kinda is...

Slip and Slide sees ATF agents Thayne and Jarrett being sent to West Virginia to investigate a mine explosion in Jarrett’s old stomping grounds. This proximity to Jarrett’s family invites some opportunities for socialization, which initially are a little awkward due to Jarrett feeling ostracized by his Dad and oldest brother because of his orientation. By all accounts I should love this series. There’s nothing I like better than 2 alpha males, struggling with their emotions and blowing things up. Clearly the chemistry between me and the Death and Destruction series is lacking. I wasn’t keen on the first 2 books; but I heard the series got better and the ratings were so high to begin with; I felt I just had to give it another try. Unfortunately Slip and Slide was no better for me, and I find myself once again rounding up to 3 stars. To be fair, I can see where people who like this series feel this book excels – Thayne and Jarrett finally have their moment of acknowledging their feelings for each other; and there are some definite feels when Jarrett gets to reconnect with his family. That said, the issues I had with the previous installments continued; and while my complaints feel really nit-picky even to me – it goes back to chemistry

3 books in and I finally figured out that the writing style doesn’t work for me. Both characters are in their heads too much; and they’re engaging in a mutual admiration society that feels over the top and out of place in an alpha male/LEO storyline. It feels like it would be more at home in a harlequin romance.
“No one, even an officer in the military like Elijah, was as brave and capable as his partner. He glanced at Jarrett with such love in his heart, it felt as though it would burst from his chest.”
And then:
“Thayne was all his for the taking. Beauty, brains, and brawn all together in one blue-eyed package, his personal walking wet dream.”
So of course, I guess it’s only natural that: “their bodies meet in a slow harmonious dance of love.”
I expected butterflies to dance around their heads and woodland creatures to gather to celebrate their union. It’s just too flowery and purple prosey for my liking.

Then there are the issues of repeated words and actions and over-explaining. Thayne and Jarrett are constantly referencing each other as their “lover”. Here’s where it gets really nit-picky – I simply hate the word. I could write a paragraph on why – but nobody cares. The repeated action involves handshaking. Constantly everyone, always. We could probably shave off 100+ pages if we eliminated all handshaking scenes. (It could be interesting however to combine the 2 and make a drinking game). The writing style also hits an extreme with regards to over-explaining. To be fair, some books go to the extreme in the other direction and your left wondering what the hell just happened. This series breaks things down and spoon feeds you. The characters are constantly recapping:
“So would you agree we know how the explosion happened?” Jarrett asked his partner the next morning. “If what Haney says is true, Boggs and his board of directors ignored the citations that were issued by the MSHA inspectors. We can only assume it was because of money.”
To the point that we have to show how even the characters get aggravated with the repetition:
“Yes, yes, we know that much,” Jarrett urged.”

So in conclusion I’m just gonna say it. Not a Thayne fan. I cannot work up any enthusiasm. He just strikes me as a bit sanctimonious with a side of buttinsky thrown in. I think I’m really done, even though I bought the first 4 on sale.

About the Book: Suspicious accidents in the mines where Evans grew up land the pair there for an investigation. Corrupt officers, strangely functioning coal mine, rural way of life and Evans’s estranged family…

My Opinion: The book consists of fairly dull and sometimes outright passive action, very long inner monologues that offer little to nothing for the characters, and sex where “so hot” is every other word you read. You know, just so you don’t forget how hot these guys are.

Good story, more character development

This third book in the series gives us more character development for Thayne and Jarrett as well as a profound deepening of their relationship. We get family background on Jarrett and some further information in the ongoing secondary story of who is trying to kill him.

The primary story relates to a mine explosion that Thayne and Jarrett are sent to investigate. The story is intriguing and keeps the reader's interest. There is a lot more attention devoted to the relationship between the two main characters which is nice, and overdue given this is the third book. The sex scenes are still a little over the top and poorly written (it's like reading what a bad porn movie would be like) so I did a lot of skimming there.

But I like these characters so I'll keep reading the series. The next book gets us back involved with the villain from the first book. And I'm still nursing a grudge on how poorly done that book was, especially the ending, so I'm hoping we're finally going to be rewarded in book four.

**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**

Once again, what an amazing addition to this series.

ATF Special Agents, Thayne Wolfe and Jarrett Evans are called to investigate a suspicious and fatal explosion at a coal mine in West Virgina. A place Jarrett is all too familiar with as it is the place he grew up. Jarrett ever reluctant to revisit the past, pushes away the painful memories that drove him away from his home and family. But with Thayne's love and support to guide him Jarrett gathers the courage to face what he thought lost.
As they investigate the explosion things get too close to home when Jarrett's loved ones get caught in a mad man's schemes.

I loved how their relationship was more focused on in this book. However it never once took away from the suspenseful mystery of the story. I didn't think these guys could get any cuter and just down right HOT together but once again I was happily proven wrong! lol

Simply wonderful and I so can't wait to get into the next book!

I can't say this one had as much action as Flash and Bang but it was still so good. Thayne, and I noticed this in the second book as well, is becoming such a solid rock for Jarrett. He's a great partner on the job and in their relationship. It was fun to see Jarrett with his brothers and I'm glad he finally has some peace there. These two still fight their feelings a little and I think its going to be a recurring theme as they both battle their demons.

This series just keeps getting better. Not only do you have the growing romance between Thayne & Jarrett but the deepening love between them as well. They are both afraid to be the first person to say those three little words. In this story, we are taken back to Jarrett's home state of WV. There are issues between him and his family. I loved that that was resolved fairly early on in the story & wasn't hanging over their heads. Thayne is accepted not only as his work partner but as his partner, partner. We get a history lesson in mining which I really enjoyed, coming from kin that worked in the coal mines I really liked that part of the story. You have the crooked company men, which happens in the real world and the mystery of the death of some minors. You get to see a little of what miners go through to make a living and take care of their families, not nearly enough in my opinion. And on top of all of this, there is still the person(s) who want Jarrett dead. We are still no close to finding out who they are. His dad has narrowed it down to a past mission but what that mission was really about no one knows. Other than they were babysitting a shipment for a short period of time. Loved watching Jarrett's family just being a family and the boys having a good time while they are together. I can't wait to start the next book as I haven't figured out who it is that wants them dead. Highly recommend this series.

Loved the audio.

I absolutely LOVED this third installment in Patricia Logan's Death and Destruction series! Jarrett and Thayne have quickly become one of my favorite couples. Slip and Slide gave us a little more focus on their relationship and the development of it than the prior two books, and it was exactly what I was hoping for! There was a lot of character development as well, for Jarrett especially. I enjoyed getting a glimpse of his past before the Marines and where he is from, and also getting to know his family. And the sex scenes? So hot! Jarrett and Thayne are absolutely combustible together. Wow. And that ending? There may or may not have been a few happy tears shed. It was perfect.

Although there was a focus on the characters and their relationship, it was balanced nicely with the coal mining case that sends them to West Virginia. I thought this case was really interesting. I found myself really intrigued by the details of the coal mining industry and culture.

Overall, this book definitely gets 5 stars from me. I enjoyed reading Slip and Slide from the first page to the last. I already cannot wait for book 4 - I need more Jarrett and Thayne in my life!

Wow, another awesome book in this series. I all in love with Thorne and Jarrett more each book and this time they realize they are falling for each other more too!

A case in a West Virgina coal mine with corruption calls the boys from California in to assist and find where the corruption lies. Jarrett is both nervous and happy going close to home. Thane finally meets Jarrett's family, and there are many twists in the story.

I loved the combination of the mystery/suspense with the growing romance between Thorne and Jarrett. I also like the little tease of a mystery person having a small view tossed in once in a while ...just enough for me to want to ask who the heck is this? And I am worried about the guys. *Runs off to start next book*

If you like mystery and suspense, hot special agents, and an even hotter romance you will love this series. Sorry but you do need to read it in order, or you would be pretty lost.

This is absolutely fabulous, the 3rd book in the Death & Destruction series. Agent Shane Wolf & newly appointed Ex Military, bodyguard Jarrett Evans are partnered and sent to West Virginia. The ATF agents are to investigate a mining explosion. The miners are a closed group but Jarrett has some knowledge as he was brought up near by. The gripping mystery surrounds the town and unfolds as the duo snoop about. I love the connection & humour between the partners, and the heat behind closed doors. This story journeys in the mines and we get a visit to Jarrett family. Jarrett is able to reconnect with his Dad &sort out a misunderstanding with his brother. The mystery is full of exciting twists & turns and an even bigger mystery is occurring in the back ground, which CIA Dad is quietly looking in to. You won’t be disappointed with this series.

This book was absolutely brilliantly researched and written.. though out the book you never know whats going to happen next especially when the author includes twists. Once again Jarrett is the office clown with a stunt he pulls, put that turns quickly serous when they get a new assignment.
They are sent to Louisville (Jarrett's home town) to investigate a mine explosion involving 5 miners. Since Jarrett's Family grew up in the mining he has knowledge which may come in handy. You learn more about Jarrett and Jarrett's Family.
Jarrett and Thayne continue their relationship strengthening their bond of being in love. The funny and scary and drama will keep you reading. A Highly Recommended with 10 huge stars. I love this series..

Warning: this review is repetitious. If you read my review of last book, skip to the second paragraph. :D

This series (so far) would all be 5 & 4 star reads for me if there was just some judicious editing/proofing. The bones are excellent. I love the couple, the humor, friendships, and the hotter-than-hot sex. (Also, I listened to this and the narrator does a fairly good job, but has a few words he mispronounces every time, and that is a pet peeve of mine.)

My big problem is the repetition of words within sentences, and phrases throughout the scenes. And don't get me started on the word "lover". It was used 92 times in this book. Literally. That said, I did listen to the whole thing in one day, so there is that...and I'll be reading the next one soon.

Thayne and Jarrett are back and this time Jarrett's family is along for the ride. I loved this book. Of course I learned a lot about coal mining than I ever wanted to know but that's okay because this book is amazing. Jarrett's brothers are awesome and I fell of all of them even stoic Elijah. The action is thrilling and the fact that Thayne and Jarret go into these dangerous situations not knowing who can be trusted besides each other makes it that much better. Thayne and Jarrett's sex life is as hot as ever and ***spolier alert*** they finally say the L word to each other. I can't wait for the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Another outstanding story!!!!

The third book in this series is just as good as the first two, if not better. The intrigue, the action and the detailed depth of this story was engrossing.
Patricia Logan has written a series that will resonate with readers who enjoy stories that have rock solid substance with little angst and no fluff, but still has the right amount of romantic build-up with the two main characters, Jarrett and Thayne.
Again, I highly recommend this series. It is well written and will join the first two books in this series in my to read again library.
I can't wait for number four!!!!
