Help Doug find his dog by patting, tickling, and calling to the correct dogs based on Doug's clues! As the reader selects dogs, the pool narrows until a surprise ending reveals Doug's dog-and why he went missing. Featuring hilarious illustrations of funny dogs galore, this text is perfect for collaborative story time with beginning and reluctant readers.
Doug has lost his dog at the dog park. There is so many dogs and he can't figure out where his is. This story is interactive where each page by a deduction his dog is found. Like my dog has spots or my dog has a long bushy tail.
We really loved this book. It was fun tickling the small dogs or pretending to pet the ones with spots. The only annoying thing is trying to read aloud Doug and Dog next to eachother over and over. So tongue twisty, I'm sure the author got a kick out of parents reading this lol.
This book was confusing for my children to follow in terms of narration. The narrator is talking to Doug who is answering questions about his dog, but you are helping the narrator help Doug. It is all a bit too complicated. I liked the idea of having the child, call the scruffy dogs, pat the spotted dogs, tickle the little dogs, because that involvement is fun and works on the child’s visual discrimination. It might have worked best reading it aloud to a child, but my 5 year old reading it aloud was very confused about who was speaking. Also, he got a bit tripped up reading “Doug’s dog,” as the name was just too similar.
Poor Doug has lost his dog during an outing to the park, and it is up to the reader to help him find his canine friend. That's where the interactive part of the book comes in. As Doug describes his dog, listing one characteristic at a time, readers are encouraged to call out all the scruffy dogs, identify and pat the ones with spots, and tickle all the small dogs, among other actions. Youngsters will enjoy trying to spot the one dog that matters most to Doug and then feel a momentary letdown when the boy doesn't seem to recognize his beloved pet. But shaking the book provides a visual surprise, and it turns out that this dog is his, after all. The ending will put a smile on the face of readers as that dog heads back for more fun. From cover to end papers and everything in between, this sturdy board book contains illustrations, rendered with watercolor, pencils, and through digital media, that offer clues as to what Doug's dog has been up to. And hey! Isn't it fun to say, "Doug's dog"? This book would be useful in helping readers make predictions as they try to solve the mystery of this animal's whereabouts.
I love good picture books about dogs and I love reading interactive picture books at storytime, so this book is perfect! The premise of the story is that Doug can't find his dog among all the other dogs in the dog park. So the reader starts asking questions about his dog's appearance to narrow it down. This is a great way to talk about adjectives and build vocabulary. The book also asks readers to call the dogs, pet the dogs, tickle them, etc., which is a lot of fun. Plus, readers who look closely at the illustrations will be rewarded with some silly dog behavior. The dog illustrations are all adorable!
Of course, Doug does find his dog in the end, but there's a fun and silly twist that kids will enjoy. I can't wait to try this in a preschool storytime!
Fun book to share with your baby. The illustrations are colorful and energetic. Reading this story aloud is engaging for you and your child. The pictures of the dogs are vibrant on each page and you figure out with Doug, the main character, which Doug is his missing dog by process of elimination --- which dog out of the pack is small, has a wet nose, etc. The pages are thick so my daughter could tug at it and not break off a page even though it was not a board book. I like giving her different kinds of books to look at and turn the pages with and this was perfect.
Help Doug find his dog by following the clues he gives you to pat, tickle, and call to the dogs until you find the right one.
Help Doug find his dog by patting, tickling, and calling to the correct dogs based on Doug's clues! As the reader selects dogs, the pool narrows until a surprise ending reveals Doug's dog and why he went missing. I can't wait to use this one for storytimes! This book is very interactive, fun, cute and makes a game out of reading.
This book had a cute concept! It was an interactive picture book about helping a little boy named Doug find his lost dog. The art was slightly childish, I felt. This was a smaller book and I finished it rather quickly. I was engaged when looking through the pages for Doug's dog! However, I felt this book was mediocre at best! Cute to read and glad I had read it, but it's not a story I'd pick up again.
Miss 3 loves interactive picture books. Doug has lost his dog at the dog park and needs our help to find it! Introduces simple maths concepts (like counting, shapes, pattern matching). Miss 3 liked helping the dog get clean (and watching him run off to get muddy again!). She loves mud; she approved.
Doug has lost his dog at the park and readers are asked to help him find it! With inviting instructions (pat the spotted dogs, tickle the small dogs), children help narrow down the numerous dogs at the park while sharpening their observation skills. Kids will love the interactive element of the story as well as the surprise ending! Perfect for preschool and kindergarten dog-themed storytimes.
This is a fun and interactive book! Children are asked to identify dogs based on different characteristics, and take different actions to help find Doug's dog. It is a fun book with interesting and full illustrations.
Interactive for storytime. Pat the spotted dogs, pat the shaggy dogs. In the end, Doug's dog is white, not brown, but when he shakes, everything is made right :D Would pair well with Harry the Dirty Dog.
This interactive picture book about a boy looking for his lost dog is a wonderful read-aloud for preschoolers. The prompts in the story encourage children to engage with the book, and to help Doug find his beloved furry friend using the clues that he provides.
This is a cute story about a little boy trying to find his dog at a dog park. He gives clues every page on what his dog looks like so you can try to help him find it.
Adorable interactive book. Doug has lost his dog. You ask him several questions and by the power of elimination, you help him find his dog. But that does is brown and his dog is white. You shake the book and show him that does is white after all.
I loved the illustrations and the interactive aspects of this book. The illustrations of the dogs coming as they were picked because of their scruffiness or size, etc. was adorable. Great for dog lovers and a small story time.
Loved the concept and the interactive components would be fun for a dog-themed storytime, but the narrative was a little flimsy and I think it would be difficult for kids to read it on their own because the narrator/4th wall breaking was a little complex for the intended reading audience.

Warning: interactive book that has you point to dogs, kiss a dog, shake the book. Heads up to people who share my library, 7yo kissed the book. Kept the attention of an active child.
Fun read for toddlers and preschoolers. The author asks them to interact with the characters in various ways. Slips in lessons on sorting and categorizing.
An adorable and interactive search for Doug's dog. Can you call all the scruffy dogs on the page? Can you pat all the spotted dogs, and tickle the small dogs?
