Before he passed away in December 2009, Jim Rohn had influenced more than 5 million people in all corners of the world. He was counted as a mentor by thousands including the likes of Tony Robbins, Les Brown, Harvey Mackay, Mark Victor Hansen and others. Jim was one of the most powerful and memorable listening experiences ever because he could take timeless, ageless principles and present them in such a simple way. Tony Robbins, who first met Jim Rohn when he was 19-years old, said Jim, "had a positive impact on me at a time in my life when I was first forming the philosophies that guide me today." That positive impact continues today with this special edition of Jim's My Philosophy for Successful Living. It's Jim at his best and includes teaching like: * The American Economic Ladder and Girl Scout Cookies * The Philosophy of Performance and Productivity * Measuring Success in Your Financial House * Six Steps for Leading an Extraordinary Life * And lots more! "I truly believe Jim Rohn is an extraordinary human being whose philosophy can enhance the quality of life for anyone." -Anthony Robbins "Few men are endowed with Jim Rohn's ability to motivate and effect changes in other human beings." -Tom Hopkins "Jim Rohn . . . is one of the most profound thinkers and mind expanding individuals I've ever had a chance to listen to." -Les Brown "Jim Rohn is a master motivator-he has style, substance, charisma, relevance, charm, and what he says makes a difference . . . The world would be a better place if everyone heard my friend Jim Rohn." -Mark Victor Hansen -- Includes a special offer for a FREE Jim Rohn audio.
Emanuel James "Jim" Rohn was an American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker. His rags to riches story played a large part in his work, which influenced others in the personal development industry.
Rohn was the recipient of the 1985 National Speakers Association CPAE Award for excellence in speaking.
"If you work hard on your job, you make a living. If you work hard on yourself, you can make a fortune." (Jim Rohn, My Philosophy for Successful Living)
I listened to the audio book of this program, and unfortunately, it is not read by the author, but nevertheless, the spirit of Jim Rohn is evident in this program. He tackles many subjects, including: time, money, bringing value to the marketplace, wages, making your fortune, and much more.
I am no stranger to Jim Rohn and his philosophy on life and business. He has many programs that are worth their weight in gold. One thing I like about Jim Rohn is that he does not push his philosophy on you, he only gives his own ideas on the subjects in which he speaks and encourages his listeners to form their own personal philosophy.
There were some really good ideas and truth in this program. I especially liked his teaching on goal setting. He says, "Taking the time to sit down and write out your goals for the present, the near future, and the remote future is the necessary part of transforming your life."
Short, direct, insightful and filled with hope. Jim Rohn was one of the masters of this type of thought and writing. Comfortably in the leagues of Earl Nightingale, Zig Ziglar, and Napoleon Hill. Rohn wasn't quite as 'aww shucksy' as Ziglar or as stilted and formal as Hill, or as regal as Nightingale. But he mixes elements of each into his own genuine and straightforward style.
If you have ever heard Rohn speak, the memory of his voice will leap immediately from these pages. If you haven't, you really should. While these short quick pieces pulled from interviews and speeches stand alone profoundly, the empathy and competence of truly one of the great speakers of his time adds another dimension to the message.
The book is very short. Couple hours at most. But the concepts inside can change things for a whole lot longer.
typical self-help book tbh, but a really good one. if you find a thin motivational book, don’t need to hesitate at all because this will be your best choice to begin with.
Trước giờ mình vẫn sống với triết lý: Everything will be okay khi gặp khó khăn.

I am a fan of Jim Rohn, so I am a little biased, but I really liked this book. Especially as a quick, light read. It would be perfect on an airplane, in a waiting room or some other time when you want a pick-me-up but don't want to read something heavy. It's surprisingly short (38 pages from beginning to end), but I thought it was a nice overview of some of the ideas from his general philosophy (not a comprehensive overview by any stretch, though).
I wasn't as much a fan of the bonus transcripts included at the end, but only because I'm not really a fan of Bob Proctor. Proctor is more into the "mystical" and "law of attraction" side of self-help, which isn't for me. I like that Rohn is typically more about goal-setting and the practical and measurable steps you can take to accomplish your desired results.
If you've read any of Rohn's stuff before, you probably won't be surprised by anything written here. I do think you'll enjoy this book if you like his previous work. It's also a great book choice if you aren't familiar with him and want to get introduced to a new way of thinking about motivation and effective goal-setting. If there's something you want to accomplish, but don't know how to get there, I've found Jim Rohn's methods gave me new tools to get inspired, make better plans, and stay on course towards my dreams :)
Avoid profound research, and behind the mirage of inspiration hide a groundless pragmatism and idealism which burns yet never leads the way. And most importantly — sell books in an age when speed is taught as a virtue.
The best way to express my impression about this brief supposed-to-be word of life-wisdom is that it should be titled thus — My Philosophy for MY successful living.
The whole ranting and raving; though girdled by a gentle inspirational tone, all boils down to one fact: Invest in yourself. the only thing that I really appreciated about this book is the idea of how important communication is. The author mentions that individuals should invest their time to learn how to communicate effectively; which in this book, by the way, not one single thing is mentioned about the matter.
I understand that it is supposed to be a collection of some kind of pearls of wisdom mentioned by the author during his time as a motivational speaker; I also understand that many people out there sometimes need books like these to serve as some kind of a wake-up call, and if that's what the book is supposed to be about, I should think it a success. Yet I cannot help notice how all these facts do not justify how, I would venture and say, unserious and extremely fleeting an impression the book seems to convey. But I guess this is a thing with all the self-help books out there.
Quick read with an overview of Rohn's approach to self-improvement. Nothing is examined in much detail, and it would probably work better as an audio -- Rohn was a great speaker and a strong influence on Ziglar, Tracy, and others who came after him.
I learned very little reading this book :/ well, the good thing is it is short and to the point, the bad thing is it is kinda shallow and preachy. Most of what's here, you can find on other more inspiring reads. So move on people.
Loving these small nuggets of wisdom. It is so true that we have to motivate ourselves to self teach beyond university or despite any university knowledge. Love it.
Step one: channel your energy toward productivity. When you’re productive, you’re significantly happier, and that’s because you feel a sense of fulfillment and meaning. So keep those productivity levels high!
Step two: treasure your connections with others. Steer clear of the “me” mentality and surround yourself with friends who impact your life in positive ways.
Step three: value your roots. It won’t hurt to look back and appreciate the history and heritage of those who came before you.
Step four: nurture your spiritual well-being. Spirituality and beliefs are the glue that holds communities together. It’s essential to make time to explore and study these beliefs to keep you connected with society.
Step five: establish a close-knit circle of trusted family and friends. These are the people who you run to when the going gets tough. They’re your shoulders to cry on, and you can count on them to keep you inspired.
And finally, step six: take action and let God handle the rest. God can do all sorts of miraculous things in your life, but before he can do so, you need to initiate the change first. Take action by improving yours
**ALL IN ALL** Your philosophy of living is instrumental in building wealth and an extraordinary life. That’s exactly what the philosophy of performance and productivity can help you achieve. Placing an emphasis on self-education and improvement, this philosophy encourages you to invest in your knowledge and skills that will ultimately turbocharge your finances. To make this philosophy work better for you, you can tweak it with some simple steps. That includes tapping into the lessons you’ve learned from your experiences and those around you, setting ambitious targets, and keeping track of your progress.
But at the end of the day, your fate is in your hands. Establishing your philosophy is just one step in the journey. Taking action is the next.

The book is your classic self-help that comes from the origin of think and grow rich ideas.

Honestly go to youtube and search for the day that turns your life around you will find 75% of the book content there and Jim will take you on a journey of the motivational roller-coaster that will lift you to the sky
The book is decent self-help recommended as its super short I finished it within 45 min
Jim Rohn is recommended by the author of the book I recently finished and it's pleasant discovery for me. I don't know how I have missed his books until now. Anyway, this very short book is fool of basic wisdom and I can't wait to read some other if his book.

I agree with the read - 5 stars 4. not difficult to read (as for non English native) - 5 stars 5. too long and boring story or every sentence is interesting - 5 stars 6. Learning opportunity - 4 stars 7. Dry and uninspired style of writing - Smooth style with humouristic and fun parts - 4 stars
Total 4.57 stars ───────────── Here are some excerpts from the book that I find inspiring:
▪ For nearly 50 wonderful years, I have been in the business of sharing ideas.
▪ First and foremost, I want people to always feel as though they absolutely received value for the money that they spent. I want every participant to walk out of one of my presentations saying, “I certainly got my money’s worth!”
▪ My second goal in my presentations as well as in this book is that everyone feels that they not only got their money’s worth, but also used their time wisely.
▪ The bottom line is that time is more precious than money. You can always get more money, but you can’t get more time.
▪ One good idea can transform your whole future, ranging from your health to your finances to your relationships.
▪ the knowledge and inspiration you need to transform your life may not come all at once, but instead in pieces as part of a process.
▪ This is why we should all engage in the sharing of ideas. Ideas are knowledge.
▪ Over the years, it became increasingly obvious to me that when I inspired others, I too became inspired.
▪ we get paid for bringing value to the marketplace. The general idea is that no matter who you are, if you bring value to the marketplace, you will be rewarded.
▪ formal education gets you a job, but self-education is what makes you rich!
▪ Success is not something you pursue. Success is something that you attract by becoming an attractive person.
▪ Achieving wealth and greatness can be distilled down to helping others. Find a way to serve many people.
▪ For example, here’s the philosophy that ensures poverty: spend your money and invest what is left. The bottom line is that this strategy will make you poor
▪ On the flip side, here is the philosophy that will make you rich: invest your money and spend what is left
▪ Becoming a skilled communicator is one of the single best investments you can make in yourself. As a skilled communicator, you will be able to communicate your own needs and motivate your employees. Don’t underestimate the importance of this one.
▪ How you feel about your past and your future will influence your decisions and the paths that you select for yourself
▪ Taking the time to sit down and write out your goals for the present, the near future and the more remote future is a necessary part of transforming your life
▪ Andrew Carnegie said that he was going to spend the first half of his life earning money and the second half of his life giving it all away
▪ Having a strong core philosophy is one part of the equation, another is having the right attitude and the third part is “rolling up your sleeves” and putting in the work that is necessary to get the job done
▪ Remember being able to distinguish between danger and opportunity is one of the core elements that we are exploring in this book.
▪ what constitutes a good life?
▪ 1. Be Productive
▪ Your goal should be to produce something of worth and value for the world
▪ One way to find such meaning and purpose is to provide for one’s family and for others in the world
▪ 2. Value Relationships
▪ The second element necessary for living a good life is to have good friends
▪ Those who do not contribute to society often find that they pay a price in the form of solitude.
▪ Medical research is strongly indicating that relationships can actually increase your lifespan
▪ Just remember to make certain that the friendships that you do cultivate are positive ones
▪ 3. Respect your Origins
▪ The third element on our list is to know your culture, heritage, language and history
▪ 4. Spiritual Health
▪ Don’t leave those beliefs unexplored and unstudied
▪ It is this commonality of experience and shared identity that helps communities and countries thrive and grow
▪ 5. Build an Inner Circle
▪ Fifth, cultivate your inner circle and take the time to inspire your inner circle of friends and family
▪ No matter how careful you are and no matter how much you work towards spotting the difference between danger and opportunity, you may occasionally fail. When these moments or other unexpected events occur, it certainly is nice to know that you have friends and family to depend upon and rely upon
▪ 6. Plant the Seeds
▪ God says, “If you plant the seed, I will make the tree.” What an amazing arrangement. God doesn’t expect you to make a tree, he just expects you to plant the seed. This is exactly how the process of personal development and self-education works. If you plant the seed, God will do the rest

Do you sometimes feel like you’ve hit a roadblock in your life? Your income has been in the same range for years. Your personal goals aren’t moving either. It’s as if you’re in a deep ditch with no way out.
Well, there’s some good news: there is a way out. It starts with changing your philosophy of living. The way you look at life plays a pivotal role in shaping your present and your future. That’s why it’s of utmost significance to have the right kind of philosophy to propel you forward.
That’s where this book by Jim Rohn’s My Philosophy for Successful Living comes in. You’ll find out what the right philosophy is, what it entails, and how you can turn your life and finances around.
Let’s dive straight in.
-
Your income is dependent on your philosophy
How often do you catch yourself daydreaming about a fatter wallet? In those daydreams, do you point fingers at external forces for your meager earnings? Maybe you keep on saying that taxes are gobbling up your paycheck, your stingy company isn’t paying you enough, or the cost of living in your area is just ludicrous.
But here’s something to blow your mind: you’re making less not because of your taxes, company, or city – you’re making less because of your thinking. Your philosophy of living holds the power to determine your financial status. It’s this philosophy that fuels your decisions and actions and ultimately brings about changes in your life.
There are four philosophies of living that most people gravitate towards. The first is the philosophy of governmental intervention. As its name suggests, this philosophy involves asking your country’s leaders to enact laws that provide higher compensation.
The second is the philosophy of demand. Instead of the government, you depend on your company to give you a raise.
The third is the philosophy of collective confrontation, where you and your fellow workers go on strike to demand a wage increase.
And the fourth is the philosophy of performance and productivity. Here, you prioritize self-education and improvement, honing your expertise and gaining more skills.
To get where you want to be finance-wise, you need to scrap the first three philosophies and adopt the fourth one. This means taking matters into your own hands rather than wasting your time and energy waiting for the government or your company to act. That’s what the philosophy of performance and productivity is all about. But how exactly can it help you get rich?
-
Improving yourself is key to achieving financial growth
Financial growth starts with personal growth. When you improve yourself, you set the stage for wealth to naturally follow suit.
According to the philosophy of performance and productivity, formal education can only get you as far as landing a job. If you want to feast on financial success, then you should focus on self-education. Continuously improve yourself until you become a treasure trove of knowledge and skills, someone so valuable that people can’t resist showering you with cash.
That’s how you can make the marketplace work in your favor. You see, people are more than willing to pay premium for things that add value to their lives, whether that’s helping them get rid of a problem or making their lives more convenient. That’s why the more value you bring to people, the more income you can expect to come your way.
The best part is that it doesn’t end there. When you focus on self-education, not only do you gain knowledge and skills, but you also gain new titles. You can become a manager, a supervisor, a leader, and perhaps even a business founder. And, of course, with new titles come better pay and bigger opportunities. Doors of possibilities will be swinging open for you left and right, and you can walk through them confident that a successful life lies on the other side.

How to improve yourself
With all this talk about the importance of self-education, one question remains: How exactly do you improve yourself?
Start by seeking out a mentor. They can help you break free from your excuse-based thinking and shift your mindset to the philosophy of performance and productivity. Remember that the pathway to fortune begins with your philosophy.
Next, hone your skills. Master and refine the current crafts you have until you become an expert in them. By establishing yourself as an authority in your field, you increase your value. And you already know that value equates to money.
But while mastering one skill does have its perks, it isn’t an excuse to slack off on learning. Find the time to expand your skill set with fresh knowledge and abilities. When you have multiple skills under your belt you’re more likely to thrive and survive in a constantly evolving marketplace. Trends come and go, new technologies emerge, and demands change over time. Sooner or later, one or more of your skills will become obsolete. But with your diverse repertoire, you’ll always have an ace up your sleeve.
Improving yourself also involves preparing to become an empowering leader. A great leader understands the importance of rewarding the people working for them. When you recognize and celebrate your employees’ efforts, they’ll be more dedicated to the business, which, in turn, will yield more profit. It’s a win-win for you and your team.
In addition to leadership skills, being an effective communicator should also be on top of your list. It’s not just about being able to express your needs and expectations eloquently, though. It’s also about speaking more than one language. This offers you an edge over your monolingual peers and consequently increases your value, too.
Don’t forget that your self-improvement transformation won’t be an overnight affair. Keep at it and remember that what you’re doing is an investment in yourself.

Keep in mind the foundational principles of acquiring wealth
When you’re out in the real world, it’s easy to get lost in the sea of information. You’ll find financial gurus everywhere, feeding you a never-ending stream of advice and tips to get rich. That’s why it’s crucial to always keep in mind the foundational principles of acquiring wealth to prevent you from losing your way.
One of those fundamentals is to embrace the belief that profits outweigh wages in terms of growing your finances. Unfortunately, relying on wages alone won't make you rich. But you don’t need to give up your steady wage to rely on profits full-time. You can do both.
Another must-remember fundamental is to practice caution when encountering new information about gaining wealth. There’ll be people who’ll tell you all about an attractive new way of making money. Don’t fall into their trap! More often than not, they’re just trying to trick you. If you’re unsure whether or not to engage, first assess whether that person is someone who you’d want to associate yourself with. Ask yourself if their method is something you’d want to do. If not, it’s best to steer clear.
Lastly, make your health a priority. You can’t expect to achieve great things if your body isn’t up to the challenge. Bear in mind, your physical well-being is the foundation upon which you can build success.
-
Optimize your philosophy of living
Even the best engines need fine-tuning every once in a while. The same is true for your philosophy of living. It needs a little tinkering now and then to match your lifestyle and goals and give you the best results.
There are several ways to optimize your philosophy. First and foremost, look at both your own experiences and those of others. Experiences are teachers, offering valuable insights on how to navigate life’s opportunities and pitfalls. Leverage these insights to improve yourself and better your understanding of the financial world.
Optimizing your philosophy also calls for developing your attitude. In one way or another, your emotions will affect how you decide and take action. While you can never be completely free from the shackles of your emotions, simply acknowledging that they influence your direction can empower you to make more informed and rational choices. This can help you cultivate an attitude of self-awareness.
Setting your goals right from the get-go can also play a part in fine-tuning your philosophy. Build a habit of writing your goals down and categorizing them for the present, near future, and distant future. If you don’t know what to write yet, it helps to start with a prompt like, What do I aspire for myself and my family? By plotting your goals, you’ll be more motivated to work toward them.
Speaking of work, it’s important to remember that taking action is part of the process. No goals can be achieved without you breaking a sweat, so be prepared to get your hands dirty.
-
Evaluate your progress
Imagine running a five-mile course without trackers or signs of any sort. You get to the 200-meter point before the finish line, but because you’re already too tired and have no clue where you are, you quit right there and then. Now imagine a different scenario where you find markers telling you you’re already there. Would you have given up then?
That’s exactly why it’s crucial to regularly check your progress. Every once in a while, you need to pause and evaluate how far you’ve come from the starting point and how far you still have to go to reach the finish line. Not only does this energize you to push through but it also allows you to see whether your strategies are working or not.
But for your progress checks to be effective, you need to give yourself reasonable periods to accomplish certain milestones. After all, you can’t eat a whole chicken in one bite. But that doesn’t mean to say that it should take you three years to eat your chicken. Don’t drag out the process intentionally just because there’s no boss to check on you. Learn to build personal accountability and keep your milestones both attainable and challenging.

A six-step roadmap to an exceptional life
Just like countless others, you’re probably yearning for a life that’s far from the one you currently lead. But getting there isn’t as easy as getting into bed and waking up to an entirely different reality. You need to work on it, too. To get you started, here are what Rohn calls his six steps to cultivate an exceptional life.
Take action by improving yourself, then allow God to take care of the rest.

I love the simple formula that Jim describes in this book. It covers every area of life in plain and simple language. A superior example of less being more as it is written, the focus here is on doing. The how of what success requires will make personal development necessary to accomplish things. It’s up to me to decide what and why, then seek out actions and people to help me get there!
Just 64 pages long, this delightfully simple book is something that I feel was much needed in my life. I've been relentlessly working on my self-improvement, and I've realised it's so easy to look so inwards - that you forget to consider ideas on how you can positively affect others around you. And you or I will never be successful to our greatest degree possible if we only think about ourselves, our careers, our relationships, our hobbies, and our self-improvement. There's an inherent paradox in self-improvement that a lot of us miss.
It's only by improving other people's lives, through using our greatest strengths, that we improve our life in the most profound way. There's a synergy here that's incredibly rewarding when you work on stuff that you love doing but also benefits others. To that end, this book made me consider creative avenues where I could help others. And even if it's for "free" or "pro-bono", I know that by working that muscle, I will eventually end up reaping the rewards just the same way the other person will reap the rewards from what they receive.
More and more, I realise that all the reading and experimentation I'm also doing needs to be slightly adjusted so that it creates a net positive effect on society. And "society" is a term that I mean very loosely. It could mean just those around me, even my little brother. The people who amass the greatest wealth, often produce the amount of most significant value (not always) but most of the time.
Firstly, it starts with those around them. Then to a greater amount of people. And so on and so forth. That's how all businesses start. But I always felt like there was this divide in my head between working on myself and working for others. Through reading this book, I realise now that these two things can be merged into one.
Let's use this book review as an example. By reviewing this book, I deepen the mental pathways related to the lessons I gained from reading it. I gain better clarity on how it helped me. At the same time, through reading this, you're able to get an insight into this book that you otherwise wouldn't have. Maybe it stirs some change in you and improves your behaviour by 1%. Or maybe it causes you to buy this book and then sets a chain reaction where you now consider more books from this author. Whatever happens, I am helping myself and whoever reads this review - at the same time.
Now, I'm considering where I can do this more and more in my life. This book is especially delightful because of its brevity and eloquent message.
Highlights:
"The core of the word “productivity” is that you produce. Your goal should be to produce something of worth and value for the world. Don’t sell yourself short, but instead strive to produce all that you can for your family and your fellow man."
“Bob, you’re the only problem you’ll ever have and you’re the only solution.”
“There’s a difference between wishing for a thing and being ready to receive it.”
My Philosophy for Successful Living” by Jim Rohn and Vic Johnson is a motivational guide focused on personal development and success. It emphasizes the importance of bringing value to the marketplace and continuously improving oneself. The authors argue that your income and success are determined by your philosophy and mindset rather than external factors. They advocate for self-education, productivity, and investing in personal growth. Key principles include prioritizing productivity, nurturing meaningful relationships, respecting one's origins, maintaining spiritual health, building a supportive inner circle, and embracing the concept of planting seeds for personal development. The book stresses the significance of communication skills, particularly in inspiring others and fostering positive change. Through practical wisdom and actionable advice, Rohn and Johnson encourage readers to adopt a philosophy of success that focuses on continuous learning, self-improvement, and service to others.
Top 5 Highlights:
1. Value in Marketplace: The book underscores the importance of bringing value to the marketplace as a fundamental principle of success. It suggests that individuals are rewarded based on the value they provide rather than solely on their qualifications or background.
2. Self-Education: While formal education may secure a job, the authors say that true wealth comes from self-education. They advocate for continuous learning and personal development as keys to achieving success and prosperity.
3. Philosophy Determines Income: Rohn and Johnson argue that personal philosophy plays a pivotal role in determining one's income and overall success. They emphasize the need to refine and change one's philosophy to positively impact various aspects of life.
4. Wealth Philosophy: The concept of the "Wealth Philosophy" focuses on giving recognition to others and investing in communication skills. By prioritizing service to others and effective communication, individuals can attract wealth and success.
5. Communication Levels: The book delineates three levels of communication—training, teaching, and inspiring. It emphasizes the transformative power of inspiring others to envision greater possibilities and pursue personal growth.
The most crucial lesson from "My Philosophy for Successful Living" is that success is not merely the result of external circumstances or luck but is deeply rooted in one's mindset, philosophy, and actions. By adopting a philosophy of continuous learning, self-improvement, and service to others, individuals can attract wealth, achieve personal fulfillment, and positively impact their communities. This underscores the transformative power of personal development and the importance of cultivating a positive mindset in pursuing success.

I gave this book 5 stars because I really enjoyed what it was about and what it taught me. I like Rohn’s central message and theme. Furthermore, I like Rohn’s theme. Rohn tells us about his core of philosophy, Rohn tells us “If you work hard on your job you make a living, If you work hard on yourself you can make a fortune.” (Rohn 10) Also I like Rohn’s use of theme. Rohn states the essence of personal development when he states “All human beings have the ability to transform like a caterpillar emerging from its cocoon.” (Rohn 4) Although I also like Rohn’s theme. Rohn talks alot about our old experiences and how to learn from them, he states “Your own experiences are potentially a rich source of information and self education.”(Rohn 28) In addition, I like Rohn’s use of theme. Rohn explains that helping others helps you, he states that “You can have all out of life if you endeavor to help others.” (Rohn 29) Finally I like Rohn’s use of theme. Rohn explains that wages will only get you so far so shoot far, he states “Wages will make you a living, but profits will make you a fortune.” (Rohn 21)
