The Three More Wishes Series is three hot and hilarious novellas. Each novella is roughly 100 pages with NO cliffhanger.
Blown Away Journalist Millie Mossberg has four positive pregnancy tests in her purse. Four. The problem is that Cade Reed, her aggravating — and crazy hot — colleague is the father-to-be of this secret baby. She’s got to tell him about the bun in her oven, but she’s still wishing that the pregnancy tests were duds. While they cover a story about a deposed dictator, they’re trapped in a runaway hot air balloon. Will they plummet to their death? Will these friends turned lovers admit their love for each other? And most importantly, will they figure out how to have sex in a balloon basket?
Inn & Out Beryl Meyer is a bum magnet. Her latest bum boyfriend was responsible for sending Beryl to prison for a crime she didn’t commit. Tired of bad relationships and sworn off men, Beryl learns that she’s inherited an old inn on Summer Island. She plans on selling the rundown house, in order to start a new life, but when she arrives on the island, she discovers that she’s only inherited half of the inn, and the other half now belongs to an ornery and hot ex-navy SEAL. Thor Stockman wants to run the inn, throwing a wrench into Beryl’s plans. Now she’s stuck in the inn, even though she wants out, and her vow to keep away from men is being tested by the hot hunk in the next room.
Quick Bang Norma Blaze is off limits to her brother’s best friend, Stone Jenkins. But that doesn’t stop him from eating at Norma’s café every evening. The Blue Plate Special is good, but Stone craves more forbidden fruit and only has eyes for Norma. When a huge storm hits Summer Island, Stone checks up on Norma as the lights go out, and the two finally let their desires take over. Just as they think they’ve reached their happily ever after, someone crashes their party and the night takes a dangerous turn. It’s up in the air whether they’ll survive the night or if their attraction is true love or merely a Quick Bang.
Elise Sax worked as a journalist for fifteen years, mostly in Paris, France. She took a detour from journalism and became a private investigator before trying her hand at writing fiction. She lives in Southern California with her two sons. An Affair to Dismember is her first novel.
I love this authors sense of humor. She really knows how to write a cute and seriously, funny story that just makes you laugh out loud. This collection of short stories had me completely entertained. I highly recommend listening to the audiobooks. The narrator was fantastic. Her voice is perfect for these quirky characters and brought each book to life. I hope there will be more in this series.
I enjoy the heck out of these tidbits of zany fun but oh my gosh…when I get the chance to listen to Ms. Hickman narrate them, they take on a whole other dimension. Suddenly, they’re not just cute and fun, they are full of so much hilarity and humor that I’m beside myself with laughter. As in I-can’t-stop-laughing laughter. Ms. Hickman does an astounding job of bringing every one of these characters, be they a main character or a secondary character, to life. I can’t get enough of them because of her and I am highly addicted at this point.
Every one of the stories in this collection were spot on perfect to make you feel good. Some have more drama than others but even then it’s laugh out loud drama as these characters finesse (or stumble) their way out of the crisis. Written in the heroine’s point of view they leave you to wonder what the hero is thinking about as he witnesses all the zany antics of the female character and yet you know he’s just waiting for the moment when he can finally let his own feelings be known. They are each satisfying to such a degree that I had a hard time moving from them after I finished listening and I wanted to replay them all over again.
I stumbled upon this series in an email from bookbubs, so I decided to give it a try. I had just finished a fantasy series, so I was jonesing for some quick romance, and this set looked like it might have just what I was looking for.
I started out really into the first story and highly entertained by the voice of the main character. After a short while though, that voice started to become a little overdone to me and then the story got a wee bit ridiculous. That said, this was still my favorite story of the 3 and the deepest. The other two got shorter and flimsier from there.
These were quick reads, and great for the price, but I had hoped for a little more.
This is my second trilogy by Elise Sax and just like the first time (in the Five Wishes series), I’ve been rolling on the floor laughing and shrieking with madness due to the hilarity of these three romantic comedies.
It’s been nonstop fun and laughter as we get to know more people from Summer Island as they toss their coins and take their chances with the dilapidated magic wishing well.
There’s Cade and Millie who were blown away literally with a deranged despo trying to avoid jail time. Journalists Cade and Millie were like cats and dogs, not the best of friends but they love to hate each other and vice versa. When the opportunity to interview an infamous politician had come their way, both Cade and Millie tried to outdo each other to get that coveted byline, until things went awry.
What happened next involved a hot air balloon with a lunatic jumping overboard, crazy Mexicans with bullets at the ready, a copious amount of illegal contraband and stolen cars and a baby to seal the deal.
Sounds crazy enough? Wait till you get to book 2, which begged the question, are you INN or are you Out? Beryl just got out of prison and she’d inherited a mansion at Summer Island which was in dire need of renovation. A couple of contractors and a number of broken limbs after, Beryl must decide whether to take chances with the other owner of the house, Thor (yep, that’s his name!) Or just leave and take her inheritance money and spend her days with vanilla lattes.
One thing I was sure though… Beryl Meyers can charm a crocodile any given day.
Which could have been really helpful in book 3, when hometown girl Norma encountered a fugitive hiding in her friend’s bathroom while she was dogsitting. Good thing Stone was there to rescue her, but why couldn’t she behave like a normal lady when he’s around?
A quick bang of the gun and chasing in the rain might just to the trick, but for what it’s worth, Norma sure had been one feisty girl.
Loved all the stories in this next installment, had a lot of laughs and tears and chuckles and sniffs. Elise Sax definitely is the master of hilarious romances, her short witty stories need to be turned to romcom shows and have a spot in Netflix!
This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible:
This is the second box of romatic comedies by Ms Sax I listened to (the first being the Five Wishes series) and it's as entertaining as the first one.
Again, we have stories in which romance and comedy intermingle, with quite a lot of strange coincidences, bizarre obstacles and sudden twists coming in love's way (such as a kindergarden graduation turning into a parents' brawl or dog-sitting turning into a wild chase after a criminal) but they will all make you laugh, maybe even laugh out loud... Yes, the stories are unrealistic, yes, the heroines do tend to be over-the-top with teenage-like behaviours when it comes to their love interests, and yes, the love interests themselves are all the Prince Charming type... but it makes for a wonderfully entertaining whole, so I can kind of turn a blind eye to those imperfections...:) All three stories are fun, but I think I like the second one - Inn and Out - best (it's the one with the parents' brawl:)). Beryl and Thor are a great example of the opposites attract rule, and the secondary characters will certainly make your day.
The only thing that may be considered a slight fault is the sex scenes - quite hot for romantic comedies (while it normally doesn't bother me so much when on paper, it tends to crash a bit with the overall mood of the stories when listened to...). That's why I've given the story 4 and not 5 stars...
The interpretation by Ms Hickman is very good; she does well both female and male parts, even though she doesn't differentiate the voices too much. But she's great at conveying emotions, which makes the listen great entertainment.
DISCLAIMER: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Blown Away - I've loved every book by Elise Sax that I have ever listened to and Blown away is another to add to that list. Throughout the entire story I am either laughing or smiling and loving the sense of humor no matter what the situation. If you need a laugh this book will definitely give you one. Angie does a wonderful job narrating and helps make it even funnier.
Inn and Out - I loved this sweet slightly off-beat romance. Listening to their disasters and successes made me smile and just really enjoy my time while listening. This was a great quick listen and Elise and Angie are a wonderful team I love listening to.
Quick Bang - This story may not have been very long, but it was hilarious. Elise is so mean to poor Stone. The poor guy is pretty much tortured by Norma, but some how it's cute in a sweet awkward way. I love this mini adventure by these two and Angie Hickman did a wonderful job narrating I'm not sure how she does it without laughing the whole time but she does an awesome narration.
I have submitted these reviews after listening to the audiobooks for this series.
1: Blown away
A quick paced tale of two journalists after an exclusive interview with a known drug lord. They get more than they bargain for, plus their own relationship takes a distinct turn for something they both could have only dreamed about. I submitted this review after listening to the audiobooks for this series.
2: Inn & Out We met Beryl the last episode, and now we find out how her and the inheritance works out. I hate to give away a great storyline, but there is one hunk of hottie involved.
3: Quick Bang
Again, a very fast paced tale, young unrequited infatuation with a brother's best friend, a dark and stormy night, watching chainsaw massacre on television, weird sounds in a house that has the girl and dog as occupants. You can either read (or listen) to the author's story or use your own imagination. I would go with the author's version, if you want a funny, funky and heroic tale.
The first three books in the Three More Wishes Series left me scratching my head and thinking: "Really?" Although the protagonists were not unsympathetic, they were completely unrealistic, more so than the plots which actually weren't so bad. The storytelling as such, however - all three books are told in 1st person singular by the relevant female protagonist - was too bubbly, trying too much to be funny and hitting you over the head with it, and again, way unrealistic. The second book I liked best of the three, at least that was somewhat funny. In all fairness, I think if the stories had been longer and the author given the events, reactions, interactions etc. more time to develop and conclude, it would have been better; here, too much was stuffed in too little space, and with a narration style I personally do not like very much. And no, I don't think I will follow this series or this author - sorry.
I laughed and laughed.... I laughed so loud and hard that my dog that was laying on the bed with me got up and left because I was disturbing his nap! HA!HA! Truly though these stories are so good.... So quirky... So witty... With such unexpected happenings that you can't even begin to know what is going to happen next!!! The banter and satirical thoughts and conversations between the characters are delightful. These books are also romantic and super sexy..... All the books in this series are entertaining, cute, and feel good readings
Like the first three wishes stories, this book contains three adorable, light hearted, fun stories perfect for a lazy afternoon. Elise Sax writes down to earth heroines who are bright and determined, though sometimes a bit naive and heroes who are earnest, trustworthy and oh so hunky and Summer Island provides an Anytown setting that feels a lot like your town, wherever that is. I loved these stories and Angie Hickman's melodious voice in the audio book makes them a pleasure to listen to.
I think Elise just sat at her desk with a random scenario generator to come up with the plot of two of the short stories. The people are all space cadets. The guys are all well hung, what an island. And I'm twitching cause the words hurt my brain. But the good news is each character has her own voice so, when the reporter melts your brain it's quickly over and on to the next. I liked Beryl the best cause she seemed the most sane.
Three More Wishes Series: Books 1-3 was a great read by Elise Sax. This box set contains novellas; Blown Away, Inn & Out and Quick Bang. These books followed three couples who are brought together under different circumstances. I really enjoyed listening to Millie and Cade; Beryl and Thor; and Norma and Stone's story. These were great novellas by the author. Angie Hickman did a great job of narrating these characters so that you are completely enthralled in their stories.
If you are looking for a light and over the top comedic dialogues, this is it. Three short stories, all happening in the same location and with characters that know each other. The stories are too short to really have much depth to them, but then again, I don't think depth was intend for this book. It's light and fun with exaggerated characters and situations.
I always know that when I pick up a book by Elise Sax that I'm guaranteed some rib busting laughs and tons of swoon-worthy moments. These stories did not disappoint! They were sweet and charming and the characters were so endearing and relatable that it was impossible to avoid loving them.
I really enjoyed the combination of the adventure and humor in this series as well as the HEA. However, I would have liked to see Beryl's ex get his comeuppance for framing her and forcing her to do time.
Elise Sax makes me laugh so hard at all the mishaps the couple's go through! All her characters in her book make you love them with all their quirks!!!!!!
