This book provides a quick summary of the Peshwa Rule in Pune and a fascinating view of the life during that age. The social aspects, festivals, patronage, law and order, the municipal budgets are just hilarious in some occasion. All of them point towards the simple fact that people will be people in all ages. They will have the same faults and virtues, likes and dislikes and the social norms while the details might be different across the centuries reflect the same.

This book will especially be fascinating for those who have their roots in the vicinity of Pune, India. The first Kotwal (Municipal cum Police commissioner) of Pune was a Ketkar. No relation of mine though no harm in flaunting that fact to reinforce my Son of the Soil credentials.
