Marc Levy was born in France. When he turned eighteen, he joined the Red Cross, where he spent the next six years. In 1983, he created a computer graphics company based in France and the United States. Six years later, he co-founded an interior design and planning company with two friends; the company soon became one of the leading architecture firms in France.

At thirty-seven, Marc Levy wrote a story for the man that his son would grow up to be. In early 1999, his sister, a screenwriter (now a film director), encouraged him to send the manuscript to a French publisher, who immediately decided to publish If Only It Were True. Before it was published, Steven Spielberg (Dreamworks) acquired film rights to the novel. The movie, Just like Heaven, starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo, was a #1 box office hit in America in 2005.

After If Only It Were True, Marc Levy began writing full-time. Since then, he has written 18 novels. His work has been translated into 49 languages and has sold over 40 million copies worldwide.

In addition, Marc Levy has directed a short movie, written short stories and song lyrics for various artists, including Johnny Hallyday.

Le Figaro newspaper recently commissioned a nationwide poll asking the French to rank their favorite author: Marc Levy and Victor Hugo were #1.

Everyone wishes for a second chance, more time, a do-over....just a few more days. What if you had the chance of a lifetime to have that wish come true?

Julia was just three days away from her wedding when she received a phone call that would change her life forever. However, nothing could prepare her for the greater surprise that came afterward! Thrusting her into a whirlwind of disbelief, travel around the world and ultimately on a quest to find a "ghost" from her past, whatever the final outcome, Julia's life never would be the same!

Marc Levy, the most widely read author in France and world wide best selling author, has created a charming romantic tale that, while it suspends belief, makes you believe in happy endings once again. The prose flows beautifully, the characters are witty, sometimes biting, but in the end you will be fully invested in their story.

This reads like a French Rom-Com because that is exactly what it is - and it is an enjoyable one! If you like romance, comedy, Nicholas Sparks, then this is a book for you. 4-Stars

Thanks to Netgalley, Marc Levy and Amazon Crossing for my copy of this book.

This is the kind of book you should approach knowing that it is not meant to change the future of literature. Very simple written, very simple story (even if with a little twist in the ending, but it doesn't really change much of the story) and you know how it is going to end from the very start of the book.
But Marc Levy sends a message - a very deep one. The story may be simple, the writing even simpler, but this doesn't change the fact that the message is not simple at all.
The relationship between parent-child is not simple and he did a good job portraying it. Parents are human beings, therefore they make mistakes. Therefore they have to be understood. That is a difficult task for anyone. Not everyone succeed in it. On the contrary, I'd say that most of the people don't, without even realizing it until they find themselves in the same situation their parents did and sometimes it is too late.
As usual, Levy is the writer of second chances and the love story of this book is, in my opinion, charming.
In a world in which love has been stigmatized in "relationship's statutes" (that honestly gross me greatly) Tomas and Julia's love is a the same time believable, sweet and magic.
So, what about this book? It won't change the history of literature, but it may help you change your life - or at least understand it a little bit more - and it doesn't seem a bad thing to me!

I usually don’t star rate books I don’t finish. But with this one I feel I ought to be warning people, since I found nothing recommendable here.

The protagonist is in nonstop whine-bitch-moan mode. I think she’s meant to be at least late 20’s. But as a character her maturity level has to be 14-17. There’s no substance there to redeem this woman-child, to make her remotely interesting. She’s a stereotyped spoiled only kid expecting a big inheritance, though that fact is background info. It doesn’t seem like the author is painting a dislikable clueless brat. I think we are supposed to like, be interested in, and care about this character.

There are no other characters here with any depth or individuality. The sidekick is a an older gay man who seems carelessly torn from the casting pages. I’ve seen on screen, and read, this guy scores of times. He’s so stereotyped as to be almost offensive to a stereotype. But he was the only character whose company I could stand.

I found the plot weak, the pace slow. At this point I don’t even need to say “melodrama,” do I?

Key circumstance in the novel are deeply unbelievable, as in, not only do I not believe this, but things don’t actually work this way. This would not actually happen, not in this context. It’s like the author is guessing about how some things work because he’s not familiar with how they do, even though the circumstances are commonplace enough. This alone just about drove me nuts.

I didn’t expect a great deal here, a simple and enjoyable little story is all I asked of this.

Standard caveat: maybe all this gets a lot better and pays off. I bailed around the 1/3 mark. I haven’t even read other reviews. Maybe others found a more palatable and rewarding novel.

I’m 0 for 2 this year in the quest for a pretty good light read, and this is my second DNF in not very long. My reading year started out pretty darn good. I need to get back to that.

Writing level at "learn to become a writer at home" quality and the plot twist is rather absurd.

I hate it when I accidentally stumble into Harlequin territory.

I read it yesterday night and this morning, as fast as I could. Not beacause I liked it, but because I wanted to get rid of it as fast as I could!
Like all Marc Levy's novels, it was full of clichés and of silly romantism. It was really boring until page 300 or so, when a little bit of action came into the story. But, even like that, I didn't enjoyed it much. Anthony Walsh, who was rather funny and ironic in the first pages, becomes really sentimental in the end, which was a real shame, because it quite didn't fit with the first feeling that we get of him. Stanley was, from my point of view, a mix between George, the gay friend of Julia Roberts in "My best friend wedding" and Marshall Trublood, the gay antiques seller in Martha Grimes' crime novels. As for the other characters, they were too uninteresting to bee talked about!

Precioso.

All Those Things We Never Said was exactly what I have come to expect from Marc Levy. I can totally see his books played out on the big screen. He gives us such colorful characters who find themselves in the most ridiculous situations! Lighthearted, fun, and silly which is just what I needed at this point in time!

A story about relationships. And about lost opportunities to communicate.

Between parent and child. Men and women. Men and men. Women and women. Parent and Parent.

At its' core, a very nice love story.

By a popular and current French writer.

I keep buying Marc Levy's novels because they're nice and cute, nothing more. They're an easy read, they don't required much concentration so are perfect for those times in life when you are more busy than you can handle and need an easy escape. I'll never reread them but I always lend them.

This particular one was a fun read, it is full of humour. Suspension of belief is a requirement, if you're not willing to go along with anything out of the ordinary, then don't bother you won't enjoy it. I'm not saying more on that subject cause I don't want to spoil it for those who would like to read it. It has of course a love story, two in fact one of fatherly love and one of a first love. Definitely an enjoyable read, simple, amusing and well written. I recommend for those of you in need of a light read.

Așa șansă i s-a oferit, totuși, Juliei.

Mais um livro do Marc Levy que me deu prazer de ler, que me levou a devorar página a página com um crescente suspense, humor e emoção.

Três dias antes do casamento da Julia, o pai desta morre. Então, o evento matrimonial é cancelado e passa a funeral.

A melhor parte está no final do livro e deixou-me simultaneamente atónito e emocionado.

All Those Things We Never Said”, Marc Levy.

Dalam All Those Things We Never Said, situasi Julia Walsh bahkan lebih kompleks daripada sekedar dikejutkan oleh paket berisi manusia android yang berupa sosok ayahnya, Anthony Walsh. Julia bahkan ragu apakah dia menginginkan ”sedikit waktu tambahan” bersama ayahnya.

Seperti tersirat dari judulnya, ”All Those Things We Never Said”, kita seolah teringatkan akan hal-hal yang tak pernah kita katakan (padahal perlu kita ungkapkan) kepada orang-orang yang kita sayangi.

Yang menarik dari All Those Things We Never Said, pesan moralnya lebih dari itu.

So, ungkapkanlah selagi ada kesempatan... 

Această carte mi-a plăcut foarte mult, in timpul lecturii am avut diferite emoții, nervi, zâmbete, lacrimi etc. ❤

A love between a parent and a child can easily get distorted as they both get older. In this story, Julia is estranged from her father, Anthony, and is about to get married when she gets the phone call that he's dead. A few days after the funeral, she receives a large crate and the story begins!

It funny, emotional and heartwarming about a father trying to make amends for the wrong he's done. The author writes the story in a way that exposes the past mistakes made by both, Julia and her dad along with current errors she may be making. The story is lightweight, it includes a blend of expository and descriptive writing styles, and the humor in the story aligns perfectly without insulting the reader.

This book is all about second chances. Julia is forced to postpone her wedding in order to have her father's funeral. They've been estranged for years. When "he" shows up in her apartment a few days later offering the chance to spend just a few more days together, she accepts hesitantly. The two of them then embark on a trip down memory lane. Julia is forced to remember painful memories about important relationships in her earlier years. She ends up with a chance to reconcile with not just her father. I don't want to say more and ruin the story.

This is the second book I've read by Marc Levy and I think he does a marvelous job. I like his characters - they are very normal, yet have incredible experiences.

4.5 / 5 ⭐

Marc Levy to zdecydowanie "Mój" autor, tworzący książki potrafiące przemówić do najgłębszych zakamarków mojego serca.

Julia and Thomas fell in love despite the social-economical, geographical, cultural, and linguistical differences. They were separated for 18 years, she thought he was dead, he thought she had a change of heart. When they saw each other again through series of serendipitous events, their love for each other was undeniably strong still, and that passion radiates beyond the pages of this book.

This book not only mesmerized the reader's mind, it also awakens the reader's unrealistic fantasies of a romantic love. But this book is not only about romantic love, but also the love between a parent and the adult child. Parents have unconditional love for their children, but all those things we never said to each other created a rift between two people that only through death that they were reunited again.

Perhaps reading two fiction books in a row would highly be unlikely again, I was glad I chose Marc Levy. This book was entertaining and addicting, although the beginning was just a bit ordinary.

Some memorable, translated texts:
“It’s funny how we always search for reasons not to love—fear of suffering, fear of abandonment—but the love of life, oh, how much you can take for granted until you realize that, one day, you’re going to lose all of it"

"I walked through cities the whole world over, just longing to find the same air you might have breathed. They say that when two people are truly in love, their thoughts are connected, intertwined. I often wondered about that as I laid my head down to sleep at night. I wondered if you were thinking about me while I was thinking about you."

As a daughter who actually quite no really close to her father, this book makes me smile, brings back all the good and sad memories in a sweet way.

No matter what the situations you're dealing with please call/talk to those you care about and tell them that you love them regardless whatever they've done to you in the past. Hey somehow you've certainly hurts others without even aware about it!

Witty and cheerful, especially the killer queen -Stanley- who lives up the story I think it's better than I've expected at first. Recommended for those who seek for long-lost love and romantic first love :D

****
