Edge of Fear

Rate this book
He would rewrite the past to save the woman he loves.

The fearless Caleb Edge is one of three brothers assigned to the top-secret paranormal unit of an elite counterterrorism group. As a prized T-FLAC agent, Caleb uses his special mystical gifts to rewind history, halt evil in its tracks, and protect innocent people . . . like Heather Shaw.

The beautiful daughter of a terrorism financier, Heather watched her father brutally murder her mother. Now, to escape his clutches, Heather begins a new life, far from the realm of power and privilege in which she grew up. On the hunt for Heather’s father, Caleb hopes that Heather can lead him to his target, and he’ll do anything to achieve his objective –even if it means using his striking good looks to his advantage. But in the face of malevolent forces, Caleb doesn’t anticipate a burning conflict between duty and desire, or that he might have to use his power to turn back time–not for justice, but for love.

Always an adventurer in life as well as writing, New York Times best-selling author Cherry Adair moved halfway across the globe from Cape Town, South Africa to the United States in her early years to become a interior designer. Now a resident of the Pacific Northwest she shares the award- winning adventures of her fictional T-FLAC counter terrorism operatives with her readers.

Cherry settled in beautiful San Francisco, where she started what eventually became a thriving interior design business. "I loved being a designer because it was varied and creative, and I enjoyed working with the public." A voracious reader when she was able to carve out the time, Cherry found her brain crowded with characters and stories of her own. "Eventually," she says, "the stories demanded to be told."

When asked why she chooses to write romantic action adventure, she says, "Who says you can’t have adventure and a great love life? Of course if you’re talking about an adventurous love life, that’s another thing altogether. I write romantic suspense coupled heart-pounding adventure because I like to entertain, and nothing keeps readers happier than a rollercoaster read, followed by a happy ending."

Popular on the workshop circuit, Cherry gives lively classes on writing and the writing life. Pulling no punches when asked how to become a published writer, Cherry insists, "Sit your butt in the chair and write. There's no magic to it. Writing is hard work. It isn't for sissies or whiners."

Cherry loves to spend time at home. A corner desk keeps her focused on writing, but the windows behind her, with a panoramic view of the front gardens, are always calling her to come outside and play. Her office has nine-foot ceilings, a fireplace, a television and built-in bookcases that will house approximately 3,500 paperback books.

"What can I say? My keeper shelf has been breeding in the middle of the night, rather like drycleaners' wire clothes hangers.”

I loved this book! This is book #9 in the T-FLAC series, !but! it is #2 in Edge Trilogy (subset) WITHIN the T-FLAC series. I believe, a person could read the trilogy--in order--as they really stand on their own. If you enjoy them, could decide to back up and read the rest, but the Edge Trilogy are the only ones that have paranormal-suspense, so far..

This is book #2 in the Edge Trilogy and you MUST read book #1 in the Edge Trilogy first. You MUST MUST MUST read the Edge Trilogy in order!!!!!!

This one started off like an explosion. Things get going right away....I can't say a lot without posting a spoiler alert, but if you enjoy a good wizard romance, funny, intense at times, suspenseful, terrorist stuff, pregnancy stuff, you'll enjoy this one. I laughed at Caleb's pregnancy symptoms and Heather's statements to the other wizards, and things the other wizards said and did. Caleb's wizard skills allowed him to TiVo back in time to redo events...

I enjoy this authors writing style. She has a way of writing that makes me laugh: Example, when describing how bad someone looked she wrote "...apparently, their parents had hit every branch of the ugly tree on their way down..." or "...water ran into the sink, followed by the slamming of pots on the tile counter in a very female, nonverbal form of communication..." :-)

Such a nice book and one of This Reader's favorites.

I liked this book a lot more than the first book in this Trilogy within a Series. The whole paranormal side to T-FLAC is a very interesting angle and except for beating me over the head with the curse thing, the action was really great. Also, it appears that magic is not to solution in all situations, which I really liked to see. Sometimes a good, old fashioned, thrashing is the best answer. I also loved that the heroine ended up in a deadly situation and the hero was in extreme danger too. Overall, a good, exciting read that is not your normal RS. This one landed high on the paranormal romance side of the scale.

Caleb Edge is a member of T-FLACpsi, the paranormal branch of the anti-terrorist organization. His special gift is rewind time, altering events to get a do-over. Sometimes that works well for him, sometimes, not. It takes a lot of "juice" out of him to do it. He is also one of three Edge brothers living under a 500 year old curse that dooms the women they love to death.

Heather Shaw is the daughter of the banker to the world worst, most horrific terrorist groups. Daddy Dearest has lost their money and is on the lam to try and stay alive while figuring out who took all the loot. Heather is collateral damage in all this and has been hiding for a year. It is quite a change from jet setting around the world to hiding in a small studio apartment is San Francisco.

Caleb is counting on Heather telling him where her father is, so he can get the money to keep it away from the terrorists of the world, thus insuring world peace (not really). But, Caleb has one small, or big, problem depending on your point of view: Heather doesn't know where Daddy is. Caleb decides to seduce to information out of her and ends up losing his heart and getting her pregnant. Now he is stuck between duty and desire and the curse is hanging over his head, too. What's a guy to do?

**MINOR SPOILERS**
This book is the second book of Edge Family trilogy which is a subseries of the author’s TFLAC books. TFLAC is a privately funded counterterrorist organization. It can be read as a standalone. The male main characters in the other books in the trilogy are the brothers of the main character in this one. The Edge brothers work for the psychic phenomena group within TFLAC. I believe the three books happen concurrently with the last book having a joint ending.
Caleb is a wizard and can teleport, heal others, put people to sleep, and time travel. He can reverse time and can also go back in time and return. He has a lot of casual experience with women. When he meets Heather, he immediately is attracted to her and she to him. He decides to seduce her in an effort to find out where her criminal father is but gets caught up in the attraction. Shortly after they meet, they have coffee at a coffee shop and begin making out in from of the other customers. They have a one night stand. He has not gotten close to a woman because his family suffers from a curse. If he falls in love, the woman will die. He does not realize he is falling in love until later.
Heather is in hiding. Her father is wealthy because of his terrorist dealings and when circumstances started to put them both in danger, he tells her to go into hiding. Early in the book, Heather’s thoughts reveal that she did not know about what he was involved in and she cannot believe that she did not know until they (she and her father) had to flee. It is hard to believe but it is consistent with the rest of the portrayal of her superficial life “before”.
When she is introduced “after”, she seems less naïve and the year on her own probably was responsible for that. She has established herself as a high end jewelry maker which she has made from the jewelry she took when she fled. At the end of the book, she quickly adjusts to knowing the truth about Caleb as well as what happened with her father. She showed strength and resilience.
Spoiler…Later in the book, Heather begins to tell Caleb about all the attempts on her life. He asks her if she is just being paranoid. It was insulting. In addition, though his heart is engaged, he seduces her for his mission and it seemed he had done something similar in the past. He also runs over her objections to different things and she calls him a bulldozer.
I did not care for the fact that Heather tells Caleb everything and he keeps secrets from her. It is not a good sign for a relationship. I understand that he was in the middle of an op that involved her and that normally an op would require that strictest confidence be kept but they moved past the line where he should have been more forthcoming. In addition, all the advantages (being a wizard and an operative with intel) were on his side which felt unfair.
Towards the end of the book a new character was introduced. This added humor to the story and I liked it.
I thought a wrap up of the op should have been included. In addition, it would have been nice to know Heather’s mother’s motivation for her act (trying not to give spoilers) and who killed her mother should have been revealed. It is implied that it was her father but later in the book some doubt was raised.
The point of view switches between Heather and Caleb. It was easy to tell when the POV changes. In my opinion, the word choice at times uses slang and it felt flat. For example, “Men had killed for less than lack o’nookie.”
Note: abortion is discussed.
I read the book more than 15 years after it was published.
I liked this book better than the first one but I think this book could have been better.

I read this book what feels like forever ago and coming back to it gave me all the feels. By the poolside I jumped into this crazy world that Adair had built for us, not realizing that this was book 2 in a mini trilogy within a larger series (say what?) Book 8 of the total series, but book 8-10 follow the Edge brothers and their story is oh so interesting.

Caleb gets close to Heather because of who her father is, but when his feelings intensify he has to wonder why? Through time and turbulence you see the two of them grow closer until Caleb's betrayal becomes too much for Heather. I loved that this book was gritty, it didn't just give the characters exactly what they wanted: the perfect happily ever after. Maybe I'm just into books that make the characters suffer before they end up together.

Yikes, I really enjoyed this book. I read it in a couple of days between my very busy life.

I wasn't sure I would like it as much as the previous book but I enjoyed this one more actually. Its fast-paced, exciting, sexy and entertaining. It grabbed my attention pretty much immediately and then I was completely absorbed into Heather and Caleb's relationship.

I like that the previous book focuses on Gabriel and this one on Caleb. It means each Edge brother gets their time to shine. Also, we get to spend a bit more time with the other wizards too and get to know them and their different abilities.

All in all, I cannot wait to read the next book in this trilogy. 4.5/5

I read this book in one day so obviously i must have liked it. There were some scenes involving terrorists that were too brutal for me. If i were in one of my more sensitive moods, they would have bothered me more. Other than that, i thought it was an entertaining read. The characters were very like-able including I like the wizard's various abilities, especially teleportation. Wish i could do that.

Caleb is sent to Heather to find her father. They are combustible. Heather is on the run after her mother is killed. Caleb's powers get wonky and they make stupid decisions that end up getting her kidnapped.

The second in the T-FLAC/Psi series. The second of the three cursed Edge brothers shines in this thrilling novel. I love the action and suspense. I love the heat and passion. And I completely adore the Edge brothers; the relationship between them, the curse that has them stumped... everything!

It's time to take it to the EDGE with the next book in the Psi Edge Trilogy, which is really Book 9 in the T-FLAC Series. Cherry Adair went all paranormal on us for this particular segment of the series, and now we have the Edge triplets, wizards with a romantic curse that needs to be broken (not to be confused with wizards from the moon, which would have been MUCH cooler). I've had a rocky relationship with the T-FLAC Series, but I've loved these Edge books so far, even though they are cheesy. I mean, they really are. Mercenary wizards. Hahaha. I love it!

Caleb Edge is brother number two of the Edge brothers, and his specialty power is time manipulation. Coming off of an injury from a previous mission, he's given a simple task: get information from the daughter of a guy T-FLAC thinks is funneling money to terrorists. See, the guy has disappeared, and they really need to find him. The problem? She's beautiful, and he can't seem to take his hands off her. The simple task of getting information becomes a lot harder when he falls for her and adds a problem bigger than he could have imagined. Plus, he has that pesky curse to worry about...and people out there after poor Heather.

Heather is in hiding after someone tried to kill her. Her mother is dead, and her father is in hiding. Life kinda sucks right now, and she's weary of everyone and everything. She should have thought it through when a man shows up at the supermarket, and they click instantly. She should have used some common sense when she fell into bed with him. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. Now, she's stuck with a terrorist-fighting, mercenary wizard, who was only with her to get to her father. He's not the wonderful guy she thought he was...Or maybe he actually is after all? Those pesky ancient curses have a way of making people do weird things when it puts the people they love in danger.

I will admit that Caleb is an alpha-hole in this book. I understand why. He spends the entire book pushing poor Heather away because he's scared to death she's going to die because of the curse. Gosh, that sounds cheesier and cheesier the more I write about it. Hah. I love it. THE WIZARD CURSE. BWAHAHA. It's fine. The book is really enjoyable. The romance scenes are sizzling. I love the push-pull drama of the relationship, and there's just enough action to keep me interested but not so much that I get bored (yes, romantic suspense authors can go overboard on the suspense part; it's a balancing act). The paranormal is still a bit of a weird turn in this series, but honestly? I think it actually saved it.

Caleb Edge - the middle brother... under the curse... and until the last 3 pages, he denies to himself and to Heather that he loves her, and she is his lifemate... his special talent, time travel and healing of others... (though story starts where he is coming off 3 months of rehabilitation, and is anxious to get back into the field - why didn't he do a redo, before he was hurt?) He is sent to check out Heather Shaw (hiding as Hannah Smith) - her father is a rich banker - who did the banking for multiple terrorist groups, and a year ago, he embezzled billions of dollars - interfereing with the groups ability to be effective ... TFLAC believes that Heather can lead them to her father...

Heather has been in hiding for a year... her father killed her mother, and she fluctuates with whether it was on purpose or an accident... he told her it was an accident, that money was missing and they were both in danger... he sends her out with 2 body guards, but they are both killed within a month... she had some cash, and her mohter's jewelry - which she was melting down & resetting stones into her own designs and selling them for money...

Caleb scopes her out with binoculars... and then tries to meet her... he gets 3 do overs until he gets it right - not scaring her, not offending her - funny... and he is immediately attracted to her... when he gets it right, he really gets it right, and they have a passionate night... she has been cut off from people, and perhaps responds more intensely because of it... she leaves in the morning, knowing she is on he run and can't have a relationship... their first time together is without a condom, they're so carried away... and Caleb lets her go, knowing he can't have a relationship with her because of the curse, and he believes she does not know where her father is... He asks her how big the baby is, and she tells him he's the size of a bean... so they start calling him bean... he tells her about the curse, without telling her the part where the woman dies...

Heather is pregnant... Caleb has morning sickness and cravings (doesn't know that Heather is pregnant)... 3 months later, her father is sited... he is in some underground cave homes in Italy... they try in invisibly zap in and look for him, but fail... he decides if he brings her, the father will let them into the compound...

When he gets to Heather, she tells him she is pregnant... he insists they marry - she is carried away... love at first sight... ahhhh - except he is still trying to convince himself that they have no future, but he wants her alive, in the world, to be safe with the baby - maybe to live under the guardianship of his older brother Gabriel (he doesn't tell her that part though)...

He takes her to see her father, the bad guys also find her father, her father wants to know where the stolen money is... and then what her mother gave her that last day, because she must have stolen & hidden the money... she remembers a gift of antique jewelry and her mother's cryptic message, but doesn't tell... her father is killed, Caleb teleports her out to the morning - expecting that she would not remember seeing her father - but she does remember (Lark suggests she may have some of magic of her own)... she demands the truth... she feels used, he lets her...

She gets kidnapped at the airport and is tortured... Caleb's protections did her no good because she is his lifemate... she dies just as Caleb finds her... and he brings her back, 5 grueling hours later... he is unconscious and taken to a hospital... Lark, tony & Keir are her protection & get the jewelry, and find a piece engraved with numbers (account number) and a paper with a banki's name on it... Lark explains to her about the curse... about his morning sickness... and without coming out and saying it, telling her that Caleb loves her but is afraid...

Caleb is kidnapped... heather gets the call... and she decides to rescue the father of her baby, with the invisible guard... she gets there just as Caleb is starting to recover his powers ... they try to teleport her out, but they can't... they free Caleb...run... and Lark figures out that she needs to ask Bean to take her away... Lark has seen that Bean will be a powerful wizard...

heather handles things with dignity, as Caleb still denies loving her... and when she gives him the jewelrywith the numbers, lightining flashes... and they realize it is one of the original bridal pieces... she has fulfilled the giving part... and Caleb (who wasn't letting her go anyway) feels some small hope for them.... ahhhh

As I turned the last page of Edge of Fear, Cherry Adair’s 9th book in her The Men of T-FLAC The Edge Brothers, I felt a bit sad – I so wanted to know more about these characters that set a spell on me from the time I met them. Bean I fell in love before he was ever born – I can’t wait to meet him when he arrives in this world.

Caleb and his two brothers, Gabriel & Duncan are wizards and agents in one of the units of the paranormal and very secret outfit named T-FLAC, who fight evil terrorists and protect innocent people.
The Edge family has been victim to Nairne’s Curse for the last 500 years which has made them promise each other that they will never fall in love. Well, things don’t work out exactly as we plan – certainly not for Caleb whose story is told to us in this book.

Caleb Edge is such a gorgeous and sexy guy and the chemistry between him and Heather/Hannah Shaw, who he’s been staking out for a while, is so out there…..the part where they first meet is really incredible and very very hot and sensual. In fact their sexual attraction for each other is …amazing…combustible. Okay before anyone thinks this is all about sex..it’s not…there is a lot more here.

The character development was very good and I found myself liking Caleb & Heather a lot and the secondary characters created a feeling of family and how they look after each other – it’s not just a bunch of agents killing people off – yes, there is quite a lot of violence and murders along the way but there is also romance and love too.
And the dialogue had me laughing so many times especially the scenes where Heather meets Lark (the Goth boss) and some of the agents who teleport – shriek…

Fast paced story filled with suspense, thrills, twists and turns, fabulous locations, strong, engaging and sexy characters (well some of them – the good guys naturally!!) and if you like paranormal romance, sexy wizards, then this story is for you.

Can’t wait to go onto next book – I hope I get to meet Bean there.

This installment as well as Edge of Danger & Edge of Darkness work together as a trilogy within the overall series, none of the others are linked as closely so far.
Psi/T-FLAC agent Caleb Edge's latest assignment has him searching for terrorist banker Brian Shaw. It's decided that the quickest way to that end is through Shaw's daughter. Heather Shaw has had no contact with her father for a year; she is still learning how to live under an assumed name and take care of herself in her lonely existence as she continues to grieve over her mother's death. Neither Caleb nor Heather are prepared for being so insanely attracted to each other when they meet. Heather is convinced that falling for Caleb would put her in the spotlight & the life she has run away from. Caleb is convinced that falling in love with Heather could keep the family curse intact though he and his brothers have vowed to end the curse by not falling in love. The storyline of Brian Shaw and the different factions felt thin and predictable making this a not so easy read for me. Although I liked Heather, I thought her character was also thin. I never really connected with Caleb during this outing and his character was no more fleshed than his cameo in the previous book.. Also the pacing was a bit slow for me, however when the pace picked up during the second half of the book for this reader things went very quickly. However it was a matter of too little too late especially within the last 5pages or so. Everything was included, just not necessarily to this reader's liking.

Action, adventure, magic

I first read this book years ago in hard copy. This series of three books is one of my favorites because characters have depth and there is action and romance. Add magic and author does deliver some unexpected plot twists. I like that this book is a stand alone read but for the most fun I re-read the series beginning with the first book.

Liked this way better than the first in this trilogy (it truly stands alone).
Maybe because the suspension of belief needed to buy into Caleb's ability to travel back and rewind time makes every else so believable.
Maybe because Caleb doesn't fight tooth and nail against falling in love.
Maybe because he is a hero with clay feet: he's hurt, he's bored, he can be a pain in the butt, he doesn't balk at a one-night stand.
Maybe because when he finds out he got the girl pregnant, he want to try to do the right thing.
It doesn't hurt that the heroine is scared but full of bravado, either. Heather saw her mother murdered, and her dad, banker to terrorists, disappear. Now she's trying to make it on her own, honestly, by redesigning her jewelry into more affordable pieces and selling them.
Caleb is sent to meet her by the antiterrorist group he works for and find out where dear old Dad is. He's not so lucky getting the answer, but is lucky with Heather (aforementioned one-night stand).
Several months later he's craving nights and goes back to see Heather. She's pregnant and he's not the only one looking for her.
Yes, he takes her into danger, but she doesn't balk at going where angels fear to tread.
But what might have made this so appealing, is the way both leads approach the pregnancy -Bean. He's a character in his own right.
Yes, Adair can get repetitive, but I didn't feel bludgeoned by it (read "Leopard's Prey" by Christine Feehan for a taste of that), and this book is just fun.

Wow! I did not expect for this book to be such a good read. This is T-Flac series #9, but it is also T-FLAC/PSI #2..so its a series within the series. We meet the middle wizard brother, aptly coined, Middle Edge. I really enjoyed several scenes, especially the "accidental meeting" at the grocery store. I am convinced that he used his assignment as an excuse to push their relationship with Heather as oppose to using Heather to further his assignment. I think during these scenes he was more honest about what he wanted, which was pretty alpha to me, if it weren't for his stubborn belief that they were better off apart! There was also a few intense scenes, and each made me pull my reader closer to my face! I also cried during one of these scenes. While its not necessary to read the whole T-Flac series, I think it is necessary to begin with the first T-Flac/PSI, Edge of Danger. The time frame overlaps and a little more mystery behind the curse was revealed in book 2. I can only gather that more will be revealed in the younger Edge's story.

Edge of Fear was an excellent book that I would highly recommend if you like a book that's action packed & has real racy sex scenes. It has an alpha male Caleb, (who is a wizard & a T-FLAC operative) that can't tell Heather the truth that he is deeply in love with her due to a 500yr old family curse. So instead he just uses her to get close to her fugitive dad (all in the name of duty over love). Only complications arise- some hilarious . This book was fast paced & had me on edge throughout. It was difficult to put down. I think I liked it a bit better than the 1st Edge brother's book. This one had more suspense & more twists & turns. It felt more like a regular T-FLAC novel but with more of a twist to it. I can hardly wait to start Duncan's book, Edge of Darkness. I love Cherry Adair's style of writing. She does a great job.

i wasn't really into this book. I had assumed it was a trilogy about the edge brothers, and while it is part of a larger series, the books weren't written in the manner i had expected. In the trilogies I am use to reading their is an interaction between the main characters, and while moving through each book you see each character grow into themselves. in the "edge of" books, each brother goes through his adventure/falling in love simultaneously--you don't see them interact with each other, or watch the love interests interact with the families. You get flashbacks of each one remembering his brothers/childhood, but i found it lacking the real conversations and interactions i wanted.

Edge of Fear is all about Caleb Edge and is the second book in Cherry's Edge brothers TFLAC trilogy. Caleb is a wizard who has the ability to literally rewind time backwards. He is assigned to protect Heather Shaw and use her to track down her father who is a terrorism financier who is in hiding and also murdered Heather's mother. Caleb and Heather are both taken with each other from the start and give in to their feelings for each other and this leads to bean, their unborn baby. I loved this book and I am looking forward to reading Edge of Darkness, the last of the trilogy. You can also read this book as a standalone.

This was a great ending the the three part Edge trilogy. Ive been dying to find out if the curse was lifted for years now, I could never remember the authors name by chance I finally ran across these books in ebooks and finished the last two in two days. I enjoyed the charayers and the story line this was definetly an easy read if your inbetween books. I don't know if the rest of this series is worth picking up. But I might just wait to see if I can borrow some from the library before I spend anymore money on this series.

I was disappointed by this one. I was irritated by the hero, who bulldozed over the heroine often, and it was always "for her own good." Also, although I won't post spoilers, the ending in all of its many aspects just seemed lazy and/or convenient. Lastly, I know this is a weird complaint, but I kept getting distracted by the hero's *lack* of cursing. Each situation he was in seemed dramatically worthy of a few curses, and the frequent use of "freaking" in life-or-death scenarios struck me as odd.

This is book 9 in the T-FLAC series and book 2 in the Edge Brothers Trilogy. I liked this one too but quite honestly, not enough to bother reading book 3 other than to find out what happens to the first two couples in the end. Formulaic paranormal romance, well written but nothing special. Action, adventure, kidnappings, terrorists, paranormal hero saves the day, blah, blah, blah. Oh, and some sex too.

Heather Shaw has escaped the brutal crutches of her father by creating a new life for herself. She is soon sought out by Caleb Edge who believes she can lead him to her father. Caleb is soon finding out that the line between doing his duty and protecting Heather is very thin. He may be forced to use his special gift of turning back time to save the woman he has fallen in love with. Another great book in the Edge Brothers/TFLAC series. I was not disappointed and you won’t be either!

Great read. I've read the few shorts for this series and though they were they were good. This the first full novel for the Tflac series that I've read and I've changed my opinion. This series is great I love it. I really have to say though even after what little I've seen of her I hope Lark gets her shorty too. Definitely recommend this series to those who enjoy Cindy Gerard and Lora Leigh and Lucy Monroe.

Loved this second story from the powerful Edge brothers trilogy. This story focuses on the middle brother Caleb who can time travel. When he seeks out Heather to get information on her fathers' current location he gets more than what he bargained for in her. Caleb is willing to travel back through time to ensure their unborn sons future. I love how the story is set at the same time Gabriels' story is happening tying in the possible way to break the curse.
