A DEMON WITH A SILKEN TONGUE…

His village burned and people scattered, Baltherus’s dominance over the island has come to an end. All seems lost until a group of Justicars arrives with a violet-eyed elf who presents both a rare opportunity and an irresistible temptation.

A WOMAN HE COULDN’T CONTROL...

Born of mixed blood, Amnestria Sylmae has spent her entire life trying to overcome her mother’s shame. After being taken into the High Mage’s confidence, she finally has a chance to prove her worth. But she never anticipated the emotion that awakens in her when she catches the eye of a demon.

AN ISLAND MADE PRISON FOR THE UNFORGIVEN…

After more than a century of banishment, Baltherus knows Amnestria is his only means of escape. With time working against him, he’ll have to betray his soul’s other half to claim his freedom — if she can be persuaded to see past her preconceptions and submit to him.

He once dominated the island prison he is trapped on. He tried to make a place of refuge for everyone where no one had to fear, but hatred and the quest for power from his enemies brought his “village” to ruin in the smoke and ashes of fire. Baltherus is not a hero, but a demon determined to rule while offering a sense of security to others to maintain his control. And then he met Amnestria, an elven Justicar sent with a patrol to the island representing the law and the Council of Mages. And, as they say, he has met his match and then some! Amnestria represents a chance at freedom, but Baltherus discovers this woman represents more than physical freedom, she is the key to freeing his soul from the dark hell it has always known.

Amnestria is not without her own secrets or shame she never deserved and this should be her time to prove her worth, but evil and deceit lie in the ranks of the Justicar…and proving this could cost her her life.

Tiffany Roberts’ MAKE ME HUNGER is dark, intriguing and filled with the tension of hatred, deceit and growing love and trust. Can a demon turn over a new leaf? Can they become Yin and Yang to each other’s souls? Will the sins of the past be uncovered?

Team Tiffany Roberts has another fresh and riveting tale of the supernatural and the power of love, but will this have a happy ending for all? Must one submit to the other or will they find a trust that bonds them as partners? Great writing, anti-heroes, undervalued beings and twisted evil interference, what more could you want, except maybe some steam from the passion that is ignited!

I received this copy from Tiffany Roberts in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this story and it gave you a bit of a different view of Baltherus from the last book (you really should read Make Me Burn before this book ).

The way the book is laid out there is a limited amount I can say about the story itself without giving things away a bit so I will have to keep this shorter than usual.

The romance was pretty close to 5 Stars since Baltherus and Amnestria (couldn't we have had something like Joe and Amy since those names require me to look them up before I can write them LOL) made a great couple for a slow burn romance.

The story itself apart from the romance was sailing along at close to a 5 Star level with some decent action (and a peek at who I am guessing is the male part of the couple in the next book) throw in some heroics and you have a great story.

Sadly for reasons that were explained to the reader still did not ring true to me and it stuttered to an ending that while not really bad, I still found a bit unsatisfying apart from the romance. Since the overarching plot seems to be headed for some very large conflict somewhere in the future, the ending was no help towards that eventuality. It also did not seem in character completely I thought but it was still a great novel so 4 Stars and highly recommended.

3.75 stars!

I was really honoured when these wonderful authors, Tiffany and Robert gave me an ARC and asked me read and review their second book. I really enjoyed the first one and I was intrigued by the second.

Baltherus was an interesting character because of what had happened in the first one. I didn't know what to expect from him and I WAS SERIOUSLY SHOCKED! This poor demon! He was great guy who made some seriously bad decisions...i.e. abducting Aria AAAAND Amnestria.

But all in all, I did like reading about his growth as a man even though he was a ruthless demon.

Amnestria was such a unique character! I was kind of expecting another innocent and naïve woman like Aria because of the synopsis but I like that we got a tortured soul. You all know I love my tortured men so I find it a pleasant surprise when the heroine is a person who's undergone so many hardships to earn the title of "tortured." Don't get me wrong, she still had this innocent side that seriously was needed or else this book would have been much darker. I liked how multi-faceted she was and she matched Baltherus so well!

THOSE ERM...scenes...you know the ones I'm talking about...

description

PHEW! They are so steamy! And I feel like they've gotten better, if I'm remembering correctly. I love how they weren't so steamy that they'd be considered raunchy and they weren't so tame that they'd be considered...well the opposite of raunchy..?? They were very tasteful.

description

The writing was wonderful and the plot was engrossing! I found myself unable to put it down. If you love hot demons and a gorgeous love story, then this is your book!

Thanks again to Tiffany and Robert for allowing me to read this!

The Isle of the Forgotten is where Justicars, a mage order that dispenses justice, put their worst criminals. They are stripped of their magic and sent to the island to survive as they will. The demon Baltherus has been there a long time and until recently he had viewed the island as his own kingdom. Until it all burnt down. Amnestria, a Justicar, is sent to the Isle of the Forgotten to see if she can find any innocents. There is corruption in the ranks of the mage order and it seems some prisoners are more political rivals or have been imprisoned unjustly rather than truly heinous criminals. When Baltherus sees Amenestria, he knows she his way off the island…as well as his mate.

We met Baltherus in Make Me Burn the first book in the Isle of the Forgotten series. He intrigued me. Although he wasn’t exactly a good guy, he wasn’t exactly bad either. He was manipulative, single minded and proud of the small kingdom of survivors he had built and willing to do almost anything to keep it together and make it thrive. Things didn’t end quite as he expected in Make Me Burn and I was looking forward to see what Baltherus would do next.

What he did next…kidnap a Justicar and then realise she was his mate. But in typical Baltherus fashion, he still tried to keep the upper hand and manipulate her to get what he wanted, i.e. off the Isle of the Forgotten. Amenestria is an elvish mage in the Justicars and generally a tough cookie. And, although I didn’t warm to her quite as much as I did with Aria, the heroine in the first book, I admired her strength. There’s was an interesting romance, which Baltherus was doomed to muck up with his machinations. However, there were enough tender and sexy moments between them to keep me hooked and the romance believable.

As well as the romance, there is also some more world building and back story developing in regard to the mages and the corruption amongst their ranks, which only helps to enrich the books. I can’t wait to read more about this as well as see a new romance unfold. I was intrigued by the angel imprisoned on the island and can’t wait to see how his story goes.

You need to give this series a try if you like fantasy or even PNR, the world it getting more interesting as the books continue and the romances so far have really sucked me in.

This follow up to "Make Me Burn" is well worth its rather lengthy introduction. After learning that their were people on the Isle of the Forgotten, a remote island that the mage controlled governing body used as prison to exile criminals, the Council sends a team of Justicars to investigate if there are any other survivors. Amnestria, a shape-shifting Fey, is included on the team. Her assignment is rather fortuitous as she is the destined mate of the island's fallen "rule," the demon Baltherus.

Unlike Morthanion in the first novel, Baltherus was a demon of little importance. After his banishment, he managed to unite all the exiled and build a functional community on the hostile island making him for the first time a big fish in small pond. Unfortunately, he lost it all when his schemes back fired and his sense of inferiority and failure continue to haunt him. Now his first priority is to get off the island he once ruled like a king and the arrival of the Justicars, the mages that can apply and remove the marks that keep the exiled tethered to the island, seems like an act of providence.

When I say that the novel has a slow build up, I mean that there is no interaction between the two main characters until the reader hits the 20% marker. Further, as Baltherus intends to use Amnestria for his own ends and she knows this, their interactions are marked by suspicion and hostility up until the half way point.

Then we get to the break through, when weariness becomes a burgeoning trust and self-interest gives way to caring. These scenes are so well done and so memorable that they are well worth the wait.

I think the thing I appreciate the most about this series is that the author's redemptive arc for the characters is believable. A sinner doesn't become a saint over night. Both Morthanion and Beltharus are still recognizable as the same characters they started out as, but a little nicer, a little less selfish.

Looking forward to the next installments but I would appreciate a more in-depth accounting of the mythology concerning the angels and demons. What little has been revealed sounds very interesting.

I was provided an ARC of Make Me Hunger in exchange for an honest review.

I had a hard time getting into the story, this time around.  Baltherus, who we met in book one, isn’t a character I really liked.  He is selfish and completely self-serving.  Then along comes Amnesteria and he doesn’t really change.  He is only concerned about his wants and needs.  Amesteria was a character I enjoyed.  I always love reading about women who are warriors.

One big point of contention with the story for me was the repetitiveness. Baltherus had inner monologues going, that would be hashed over and over.  Then later in the story, we would hear about that same thing again, when the characters discussed it. It was enough to drive me batty, to the point I started skimming the monologues.

I enjoyed the action, the character’s interactions and the general plot and direction of the story.  However, I could have done without 90% of the inner monologues. Because of that this is getting a 2.5 stars it could have been better but I did like some parts....Sara

I'd like to begin this review by saying I loved this book, and the only reason it took me this long to write the review is because I have actually written it twice to no avail (Goodreads ate them. I guess the review made it hungry).

Finally gaining my senses, I'm writing this in an offline environment! (Woo!)

So without further delay:

This book was fantastic! Even better than the first in my opinion. What Amnestria and Baltherus share starts out very rocky but ends up being something that's even deeper than what I saw in Aria and Morthanion's relationship.

Baltherus is patient and calculating. He appreciates things that his kind normally doesn't. He isn't heartless. He doesn't do things unnecessarily. And with all that, he actually ends up coming off as very sweet. He's not a hard ball of fire until he meets 'the one'. He's a warrior who never wanted to fight. A creature who saw beauty and didn't want to destroy it.

Amnestria, like Baltherus, is a warrior with heart. She's a creature with a past that's just as dark as his. She's trying to battle her own inner darkness and deal with the fact that she isn't who the world is telling her she was meant to be.

When this unlikely pair of opposing warriors meet, they are able to find out that what they've all their lives been told is wrong may actually be right.

Add all the beauty that is their past, present, and new hope for a future to a thrilling plot with amazing side characters, and you've got a book that you won't want to put down.

This book was great. If you're having doubts, stop. Buy it. Read it. Love it.

Anticlimactic

So very sad when I’m disappointed by a book I’m really into. Mini spoiler alert here: if you don’t trust someone in a relationship, you either talk about it or you draw a line in the sand. You don’t discard your principals just because you’re lonely. Not the move of a strong, evolving heroine. Second, if there is a list of issues, lying being one of the most important, you don’t easily let that go. Very glad that justice was served but from chapter 16 or 17, I skimmed over the sex scenes (and much of the rest) because I felt let down and my connection to the characters was lost. Those scenes just didn’t hold any interest for me anymore once the cognitive dissonance emerged. Sad face.

★★★★★ 4.5 amazing stars!

Another amazing read by Tiffany Roberts. Even before I read Make Me Hunger I knew that it was going to be a great read, but I didn’t realize how amazing it was. The first book in the series was extremely good I wasn’t sure how this second one could be better, but it was!

You get to meet Baltherus in Make Me Burn and let me tell you, he didn’t make a great impression. I disliked him a lot for what he did to Aria and made her go through. I just wasn’t sure how they were going to make me forgive what Baltherus had done and end up liking him enough to want a happy ending for him. But you get to see a different side of him that makes you want to forgive him for his wrongs. And so after getting more deep in the book I slowly was able to forgive and hope he got his own happily after. He was created to fight a war and was given up by his parents and taught at a very young age that demons were superior and was never shown any kindness. He never even felt what love was and despite all of that he didn’t grow up to be a completely evil demon which is why I was able to forgive him.

Also the way Baltherus was with Amnestria proved how caring he could be to someone even though he did take her at first for his own selfish reasons. But I am sure if someone were falsely accused of committing a crime and taken prisoner for a long time, they would the same thing. I probably would too if I was desperate enough, and desperate he was.

I also loved the idea of Amnestria being a half breed who couldn’t completely hold back her feelings. She was a Justicar but she was able to see things for what they truly were and not falsely accuse. Which is why she was picked to go on a mission and see for herself if there were prisoners who were sent to the isle who were innocent or at least did not deserve to be sent there.

What I loved most about this book, and well the entire series, is the action, the romance, and how well descriptive everything is. I can clearly picture the isle, the characters, and their surroundings. Tiffany Roberts have a unique style of writing that I’m loving so much. Anything by them is definitely a one-click for sure!

Second book in the isle of the forgotten series.

This story continues straight after the first book. Diving straight into a juicy plot.

The h, Amnestria is a justicar mage ( GO GO JUSTIC MAGES ) sent on a special mission by the high Mage to investigate potential corruption and unfit sentencing of prisioner on the isle of the forgotten. Along with her commander ( booooo hisss ) and 3 other justicar mages ( GO GO JUSTICE MAGE ON TOUR ). Plague by self doubt, duty and a secret she is keeping from everyone, she is compelled to carry out her mission.

Baltherus is a demon ( and suspected big bad from book 1 ) the misguided, long term self proclaimed 'king of the not so bad...bad guys' has had his security and beliefs burnt to ash by aria and M???? ( still can't spell it ) at the end of the first book. Plagued by guilt at the thought of Aria's death ( SHES ALIVE! ) he questions every decision he has made in his 150 years on the island but continues to search for a way off the isle.... instead He finds Amnestria....

The world creating in this series is phenomenal, the story is meaty and brilliantly written. The charachters are emotive and expressive and flawed and REAL!
With each book the continuing story is developing at a brilliant rate and I'm loving every page.
I'm enjoying this series so much and the charachters that are introduced in the prior book, next is Galen's book.

Wow, I liked "Make me Burn" but I loved "Make me Hunger"

The relationship between Baltherious and Amnestria is way more complicated and thrilling than Thanion and Aria.

I really enjoyed how these different character, a demon not so bad and this half elf started as enemies but they're open to listen to the other point of view and start changing their opinions and feelings . There's angst, fights, love and sexiness all over the book but mostly I love how the authors make these different character come to an understanding after their miscommunication and trust issues that I totally understand from their positions.

There's no always black and white. There's grey and what seems to be right sometimes is wrong and the other way around. Prejudices are dangerous and this story explore these matters through all the characters.

It's important what others belive about ourselves but most important what we believe about ourseleves and how we decide to act according to our beliefs and feelings.

Five starts. Great job!

I liked this one better than the first book in the series, and I don’t really know why. I think maybe I just liked Baltherus and Amnestria a bit more—they were really, really cute. But also, there wasn’t any point in this book where I got bored and started skimming like I did in the last one.

That being said, there’s still a lot of repetitive writing when it comes to the characters’ inner monologues and thought processes, but somehow it didn’t bore me as much this time.

However, Amnestria did annoy me a bit with her dumb decisions throughout the book. Like, she’s supposed to be this super badass Justicar with magic who can fight and handle herself—but her actions and decision-making contradicted that most of the time. Toward the end, it honestly got to be too much. I get that they needed to move the plot along and that things needed to happen to keep it interesting, but did it really have to be Amnestria’s bad decisions that caused everything every single time?

This is a good fantasy series, and this second book expands on the world building of book one, which I really liked. The book starts shortly after book one ends in the Tower of the Mage. Then the action returns to the Isle of the Forgotten, where it hits a few bumps. First in a power hungry stalker Arbiter, and then in a heroine who knocks her organism giving demon over the head with a rock. Ummm... yes the heroine was conflicted but really that was over the top. Wow how to kill a romance.

The writing couple of Tiffany Roberts does write good fantasy romance, but this one just didn’t measure up to their first book.

So...Baltherus

Was a nice surprise. It is amazing how finding their fated mates changes these demons so fundamentally. His mate was super headstrong and he did not do a great job of protecting her, but thankfully, she was not easy to break either. Glad she could see the good in some of the prisoners. This story was amazing, danger at every turn and a good game of manipulation from both of these stubborn characters, half truths and the perfect amount of steam. Reviewed by Who She Reads

A wonderful story about Balth and Amnestria !!
She is a parting the Justicars , the Elves who help with Order . He is a Demon banished to a secure island where their magic is locked away . Through all adversity these two find each other. And then , their adventures begin !!
I found this book to be a well written addition to the story as it continues on , and we meet many more prisoners on the Island of the Forgotten !!!
On to book #3 !!!!

Ok i finished this yesterday so it has marinated in my brain enough to review. This was a fun, quick read. I don’t mind the lack of world building, since 99% of the book is set on an island. The romance was sweet, and I loved Baltherus’s redemption from the last book. I hated that they just didn’t communicate with each other which led to the main conflicts lol. Anyways I recommend if you want a fast, fated mates fantasy romance that’s spicy LOL

This is a sweet love story that is imaginative and engaging. The tale illustrates the power that one's past has on the paths taken throughout a lifetime, even if said lifetime is three millennia. I recommend this book.
