Oh good grief. I shouldn't have. I really shouldn't have after the first book in this series, but since this one got higher ratings I thought I'd give it a try and see if the first one was just a fluke.

It wasn't. This was possibly even worse.

If you don't take into account all the bad spelling and grammar mistakes on top of the name switching (did an editor even look at this?) there are the giant big holes in the plot that don't make sense.

The trope in this story is that once you mate, you instantly love your mate and become a brainless sexual submissive (even if you weren't before). Then after your mate tells you he wants to exact revenge on you for killing his brother and humiliate you and 'punish you' you still love him. Not to mention he's glad his 'killed' your wolf. Cause face it, you're a pet now for a dominant, overbearing, arrogant, masochistic wolf who uses all that as a front that he cares for you deeply and love you.

Yup. Makes a lot of sense to me.

Just like the first one Cry Wolf had potential but a very bad execution. The writing is amateuristic at best (no improvement from the first book) and apparently the author didn't take notes from the first book, because names got switched as well at physical appearances.

The part I hated the most was that Rory was forced to accept the mating when Casey pushed the point. Reeks like slavery to me.

Gosh Casey was the ultimate close minded asshole! he refuses to acknowledge his brother was a psychotic cold blooded rapist and was still out to avenge his death. Poor Rory! he was raped, deceived and treated like crap! Everyone just seemed to feel he had to accept it because they were now mated? The guy murdered your wolf and planned to humiliate you for the rest of your unnaturally long life! That's it quitting this series. Even worse than Nicky's story.

I actually enjoyed this much more than the first book. My biggest problem was that this book needed a better editor. I’m smart enough to realize even when their using the wrong name who an author is talking about. However, it’s a little irritating. Too often Rory was called Casey. I liked Marco and Nicky a lot better in this book.

As in the first volume, this second book in the series has a twist versus the 'standard' werewolf lore, and that supports the world building very nicely. What hasn’t changed, and is no different from most other shifter stores I have read, is that one of the mates is the ‘macho’ or dominant partner and the other has to 'submit'. This book actually takes it pretty far and is truly cruel in what the consequences of this submission for the physically weaker male mean. For that reason I have to warn anyone not comfortable with non-consensual situations; the dominant character in this book crosses the line a few times, and I had a real problem with how he did it and the lack of consequences of his behavior.

Rory is a young wolf, not as tall and strong as the others, and maybe a little impulsive at times, but he works hard and is very loyal to his alpha, Marco (from book 1). He has been a wolf all his life, and the idea of mating another wolf, one who is stronger than him, repels him. He does not want to submit, but he knows that if he does, life as he knows it will end. He has no idea how true that is and how far-reaching the consequences are until it is too late. My heart broke for him when it happened and I don’t think I will ever forgive Casey for what he did.

Casey is an overbearing, arrogant werewolf who thinks he knows it all. He also believes he is entitled to carry out punishment without listening to the accused wolf' story, and thinks it's okay to lie and cheat to get what he wants. The way he treats Rory, who he knows to be is mate and whom he claims to love, is below disgraceful. Using his physical power to subdue and humiliate Rory as 'revenge' for what he thinks Rory has done wrong is despicable. His 'apology' wasn't heartfelt, he never really changes, and – did I say how much I hate him yet?

There was too much non-con at the heart of this story for me to like it. I admit to being fascinated by it and from an intellectual point of view I 'get' the storyline having to be the way it is. But that is as far as it goes for me. Even though Rory ends up making his peace with things, and mending his relationship with Casey, and even though Casey apologizes (sort of) and promises to do better, the damage (in my mind) is irreparable and unforgiveable. But then, I am not a werewolf and cannot 'feel' what it is like to be mated to an irresponsible macho like Casey. The characters did behave in accordance with the laws set out for them in this world, and I can see how some people might react the way these guys did. But I, for one, will never forgive Casey. He's lucky to have Rory as his mate!

If you like werewolf stories with a twist, if you can deal with non-con in the setting of a paranormal werewolf culture that, in my mind, is utterly cruel, and if you enjoy characters fighting tooth and nail before forgiving each other and falling in love, then you will probably like this story.

I gave the first book in this series 3 stars as I rated it 2.5 but can't give half star ratings. Well this one I also rate 2.5 but it's a harder push to get there then the first so I'm giving it 2 here.

I preferred Rory and Casey as a couple then the Nicky and Marco from the first book but there were far more typos and grammar issues this time round and awful alot of inconstancies plot and character wise. Nicky has become just a brain dead twink who acts submissive all the time when the whole point of the first book was he wasn't submissive outside the bedroom. Rory's character has changed greatly, he is now small and weak and Marcos nephew. A few of the background characters names changed for no reasons - Tara's mate is now named Cody but it was Tristan in the last book. In a few scenes were two characters are taking the author appears to get confused as to who is standing were in the scene and gets them mixed up and then the book just ends. Despite the typo and grammar issues I did enjoy the writing style and the story concept of two wolves mating and needing one to sub to the other but just as the relationship between the two main characters is really starting to develop the book just stops.

Casey has infiltrated the Dark Hollow Pack to find the wolf responsible for killing his Alpha and brother, Aaron. He realizes his blood mate is among his new fellow pack members, but when he discovers his mate is not only another wolf instead of a pet, but also the man who killed his brother and who he has vowed to kill in return.

Rory saved his Alpha's mate and his own brother by killing the wolf responsible for kidnapping them to rape and then ransom them. It isn't until after Casey mates him that he learns Casey originally came to kill him.

I felt this book wasn't as good as the first in the series. It was good... just not AS good. It had a great storyline that really had so many places to go, but instead played the blood mate card and unfortunately everything between Casey & Rory is pretty easily forgiven. There really wasn't any working it out at all. You would think Rory would fight the bond harder, especially given Casey purposely tried to kill his wolf during the mating and even told Rory that. There just seemed to be a lot left out.

Rory has always been smaller than the others but he's still all wolf. Casey is looking for revenge. Talk about worlds colliding. This is a strong story with lots of guys fighting against each other and themselves. It is interesting to see the development of the relationships in this story. I love this series and can't wait for what's next.

Cosa succede quando il destino gioca con le tue carte? Quando come compagno predestinato ti assegna un lupo come te, per di più etero? Casey sa che questo non è un buon punto di partenza. Per non parlare del fatto che questo lupo che il fato gli ha predestinato è anche l’uomo che aveva giurato di uccidere. Insomma, un gran casino!

Casey riesce a entrare nel branco dei Lupi della Montagna senza far scoprire a nessuno le sue vere intenzioni: vendicarsi della morte del fratello, ucciso da uno dei lupi di questo branco. Al suo arrivo, scopre che lì vive compagno di sangue. E qui cominciano i problemi, perché l’unico modo per cui un rapporto tra due possa funzionare è che uno dei due si sottometta all’altro. Non proprio una passeggiata, visto che Casey è un lupo dominante e il suo compagno, Rory, non ha nessuna intenzione di sottomettersi a lui. Ma non è questo l’unico ostacolo per la coppia, infatti Rory è proprio l’uomo che Casey vuole uccidere. Non vi sembrano ottimi presupposti per una splendida storia d’amore?

Rory ha sempre desiderato compiacere suo zio Marco, nonché Alpha del branco, e non vuole deludere nessuna delle sue aspettative. Quando quest’ultimo gli assegna un incarico, lui accetta senza esitazioni. Si ritrova così in una stanza con tutti i nuovi gamma accolti da Marco, quando un meraviglioso profumo gli solletica l’olfatto, facendogli intuire che la sua compagna è vicina. Sì, perché Rory ha sempre immaginato una donna nel suo futuro. Sorpresa delle sorprese, il suo compagno è proprio Casey. Fin da subito, Rory sarà diviso tra il desiderio di sottomettersi e quello di far valere il suo ruolo dominante, che verrebbe a mancare del tutto, se accettasse Casey come compagno. E quando scoprirà che l’uomo che lui ha ucciso per difendere il compagno dell’Alpha, altri non era che il fratello di Casey, le cose si complicheranno ulteriormente.

Tanti ostacoli ci saranno nel cammino di questi lupi, ma saranno superabili? Uno dei due rinuncerà al suo ruolo dominante nella coppia? Rory riuscirà ad accettare i suoi sentimenti verso un uomo? E Casey come si comporterà davanti al giuramento che ha fatto a se stesso? Prevarranno i sentimenti o le convinzioni dei due lupi avranno la meglio?

Eccoci qui con il secondo capitolo di questa serie fantasy iniziata con “L’Alpha e il suo Pet”, di cui naturalmente vi consiglio la lettura. In questo libro ritroviamo i protagonisti del libro precedente, Marco e Nicky, il quale si riconferma il mio preferito, per ora. Così come nel primo libro, anche in questo mi sono trovata catapultata nella storia grazie alla trama avvincente e alla curiosità di sapere se e come avrebbero superato gli ostacoli. Rory ha avuto tutta la mia simpatia per la situazione in cui si è trovato e Casey, anche se potevo capirlo e comprenderlo, a volte mi ha fatto venir voglia di urlare! Forse perché ero troppo dalla parte di Rory e soffrivo con lui per gli atteggiamenti dell’altro lupo o forse perché a volte ho trovato Casey troppo arrogante nel pretendere la resa di Rory. Di certo, questi due lupi non hanno avuto la strada spianata, visti i tanti ostacoli, e la scrittrice ha saputo giostrare i vari problemi dando ai protagonisti l’unica conclusione che potevano avere. Sono due uomini molto diversi, se da un lato Casey è abituato a dominare e comandare, dall’altro Rory non vuole sottomettersi perché il suo orgoglio e il lupo dentro di lui non glielo permettono. Due uomini che ho apprezzato e che mi hanno coinvolta nella loro storia, merito della scrittrice con il suo stile scorrevole e il suo modo di descrivere i personaggi e le situazioni, qualità che avevo apprezzato anche nel precedente libro.

È una lettura che mi sento di consigliare? Certo, soprattutto agli amanti dell’amore mai scontato e che va conquistato, e a chi cerca una storia fantasy. Aspetto il prossimo libro e spero di leggerlo presto? Assolutamente sì!

La storia di Rory e Casey parte subito con il botto: i due si incontrano e scoprono di essere compagni predestinati. Ma questo, invece di riempirli di gioia, li mette profondamente in crisi, anche se per motivi diversi: Rory è un lupo e non vuole sottomettersi al suo dominanate compagno, mentre Casey è ancora in cerca di vendetta per la morte del fratello. Non sarà facile per i due superare le difficoltà ma saranno aiutati da amici amorevoli. Ho letto questo romanzo tutto d'un fiato, ho apprezzato che ci sia più spazio per la relazione e i sentimenti tra i due che per le vicende del branco ma a volta avrei preso a badilate nei denti quell'arrogante di Casey (non che Rory sia proprio uno stinco di santo!).
Se avete amato il primo romanzo di questa serie non potete farvi sfuggire "Il Grido del Lupo".

Review: Rory, a young and small gamma wolf, meets his mate and is scared to death. It isn’t the fact that he is a man but that he is another wolf and wolves do not mate other wolves. Only one wolf can be dominant and Rory knows that Casey is an Alpha wolf. He is afraid of losing himself and his wolf if he mates with Casey but he can’t seem to stay away from him no matter how hard he tries.

Casey has come to the Dark Hollow wolf pack under false pretenses. He isn’t actually a rogue wolf like he says, he is the brother of the man Rory killed. To understand this, it is helpful to have read the first book,The Alpha’s Pet, but it is not necessary. When Casey discovers that Rory, his mate, is the man that he came to kill he is devastated and very confused. The mating pull is too strong to resist but he is unable to give up his plan of revenge. He has decided that if he can’t kill Rory, he will make him his slave and humiliate the smaller wolf.

I really like the world that these wolves live in. It isn’t fluffy and light and the matings don’t go easy. There is conflict and turmoil and obstacles to overcome. Two things that I did not like about the book, the editing was poor and I despised Casey and his treatment of Rory. Names were mixed up several times and there wasn’t a smooth flow to the story. It gets confusing at times. Casey remained a prick throughout most of the book and shortly after his change of heart, the book ends. I would have liked to see a little more of their HEA.

There is one thing to be said for sure about this series, and yes, I'm saying it with a positive meaning, it's totally freed of heavyness; once you start one book, you are more likely able to finish it in one gulp, it goes down smoothly and easily.

Each story has a strong point, and this time is the contraposition between Alpha and Gamma roles in the pack hierarchy moved to a relationship: in the Dark Hollow Wolf Pack homosexuality isn't something frowned upon, but a relationship between two wolf, that is something unheard of. And so when Rory, not only the Gamma of the pack but also the nephew of the Alpha, Mateo, finds out his mate his another wolf, and an Alpha to both, that is when there are trouble; basically to accept the mating bond Rory, the lesser wolf, had to renounce to his priviliged status in the hierarchy pack... even if there is who is saying the pets, the mates of the wolves, are the ones really ruling the relationships.

Anyway, I did enjoy this story, it was like giving freedom to the brain for an hour or two, to just rest and relax.

I did not read the first book in Shannon West’s Dark Hollow Wolf Pack series. Instead I picked up the second book, CRY WOLF, based on the blurb, and I haven’t regretted choosing this story for a moment.
I love wolf shifter stories, especially when they involve M/M matings. Ms West has done a great job of world building with this book. When I started it I thought this was just another story of Big Bad Alpha Wolf finds out his mate is the Small Pretty Little Wolf, and it sort of is, but the story is much more complicated than that, which enriches the book tremendously.
Ms West does turn the story around, perhaps a little too quickly and conveniently, but the ending is satisfying. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series and look forward eagerly to the next book.

I bought this not remembering how much I had hated Alpha's Pet, and I didn't hate ALL of it and I did actually finish it, but then I remembered. I found it more palatable than the first and I'd probably give it 2 1/2 stars if I could but I definetly liked it better than the first one so maybe I'll read 3 when it comes out and see if I like it.

I found on more than one occasion that Casey was called "Cody", and at one point, Tara's mate was called Cody too, when it was Tristan. Something simple that should have been picked up in proof reading and editing.



However, I did like it enough to read the third in the series.

I have all 15 books in this series and I enjoyed it. I read the first 7 several years ago and decided to re-read them again since the entire series is out now. There is some redundancy in that each book heavily features the "mating" between the wolf and less dominant partner; however, the individual stories intertwine with a larger story that kept it overall very entertaining.

Book 15 is called "The Final Chapter" but it appears it's just the final chapter for the wolves being the main story as the author now has a new series out called "The Darker Hollow" using one of the minor characters (Mason, a Jax's little brother) and vampires/wolves but still taking place partly or mostly in the same area The Dark Hollow - 2 books are out in that series so far. I'm a little burned out so I haven't bought them and I'll wait to see how many more show up in that one, I don't like cliff hangers and I worry that this will be another long series and the overall story will be left open.

One note of caution, if you are a picky reader (and I admit that I am not but it is the reason for 4 stars), be prepared to get over quite a few inconsistencies in the stories, especially as the series grows. Some are small like the time Zack gets out of the river and "puts his clothes on" but then it's noted he was seen going into the lodge naked; in Connor/Jeremy's story they actually refer to them backwards; in one book Marco says he first saw Nicky in a restaurant but in the original and every other reference it was in a park; in one book Landry says he was not jealous being born a pet but in another it says he was... And there are some bigger inconsistencies you'll have to just get over, like Logan's Mom - in his book it says she raised him until he was 10 but that is not the story given in later books for him or for her.

This story is in dire need of editing - more so than West's usual books. Rory and Casey's names were mixed up throughout and it was really disorienting and annoying. There was one point where only Casey's name was written during a sex scene so it was like "Casey wrapped his mouth around Casey's shaft." Quotation marks were also missing a lot so it wasn't always clear what was said and what wasn't. Really, just one read through would have fixed these issues, but instead it's like West wrote the story draft and moved on without bothering to look back. Very disappointing because I had high hopes for this book.

È stata una lettura assai veloce. Il libro è carino ma è troppo corto per i miei gusti, Rory decide di sottomettersi troppo velocemente, passano si e no tre giorni -.-
Poi tutta la questione della vendetta di Casey lascia il tempo che trova, non viene spiega niente... e anche la questione che Rory può continuare a trasformarsi è un po' lasciata a se stessa. Peccato perché il potenziale c'è ma viene messo in secondo piano da scene d sesso un po' a caso.

Claramente tengo un problema por haber leído este libro cuando al primero le puse una estrella y ni lo pude terminar, pero es que pensé que este iba a ser mejor porque eran dos lobos pero NO, estaba muy equivocada.
Hay una violación explícita que es romantizada y además se justifica de una manera horrible, me dió asco leer este libro.

L'ho trovato più interessante rispetto al primo volume. Rimane la componente non-con e di dubbio gusto che ahimé sembra caratterizzare l'intera saga con persone ma se si passa oltre... non è così male.
Ho apprezzato entrambi i personaggi e anche se si poteva fare di più per caratterizzare entrambi la lettura risulta scorrevole e piacevole.
