Sharks Were Her Game, Not Scoundrels! Marine biologist Jinx Beaumont had the sinking feeling her given name foretold the voyage ahead of her. She was jinxed, all right - stuck with Race Morgan, a merciless buccaneer of a captain. Studying shark life on the rough seas north of Australia kept Jinx busy enough. She definitely didn't need the unnerving distraction of a human predator like roguish Captain Morgan! Jinx fought against the magnetic pull and her desire. She didn't want to become one of Race's romantic conquests. But her inner turmoil only increased when she felt challenged by a rival who was stunningly beautiful...and vicious.
Gordon Aalborg was born on February 5, 1942 in Alberta, Canada. He began his writing career as a reporter, columnist and bureau chief at The Edmonton Journal in his native Alberta. He wandered off to Australia in the '70s as a freelance journalist and radio/tv broadcaster.
The best-selling romance author, Victoria Gordon born in response to the publisher's claim that "no man" could write Harlequin category romance (Gordon is widely believed to be the first man to seriously meet the challenge) , and she survives after more than twenty novels published throughout the world.
Gordon Aalborg is married to mystery writer Denise Dietz, who helped him in his book Finding Bess.
Back in Jan or Feb of 1990 a mysterious package of 4 books arrived in the mail. Who ordered them I never learned, but after I read them, my love for romance was born! I started subscribing to Harlequins Romances, then moved on to Temptations...then any other series I could get my hands on.
Arafura Pirate by Victoria Gordon was one book in that package, the fourth romance I ever read.
It was set in coastal Australia with spunky heroine named Jinx, a blond, short-haired marine-biologist, who was tough and independent. She sets out with her team of fellow scientists to tag sharks. When she met the hero, Race Morgan (what a typical hero name that was!) she wore a shirt that said "Kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray." Race, was a gruff ship captain who smoked, of course. I remember when they first kissed, Jinx certainly wasn't thinking of ashtrays!
There was a fun supporting cast on the ship and I enjoyed they way they all bonded. Simple and sweet, but I have fond memories it.
This is really a cute little book from the 90's but the female character Jinx Beaumont is very progressive. Captain Race Morgan sounds like a great guy except he keeps spending time with Melissa Stewart whose father is a local politician. Melissa is mean and nasty and actually attacks Jinx physically. But when Melissa is not around Race spends time with Jinx even showing her his secret hideaway. Jinx and the whole crew get recalled from their research trip. Later Jinx finds out why Race spent so much time with Melissa and just who caused her crew to be recalled.
