Madison Gray was living a normal life as a single mom and nurse but that stopped when the Cabaka made contact. With an impending invasion from the vicious Cabaka, Earth became both orderly in the way of the newly formed Earth Army military and disorderly due to the chaos and fear the Cabaka brought. Madison doesn’t know what to think when her father, a high ranking Earth Army official, assigns a new ally to be her personal bodyguard. She can’t help but to think the Baat warrior assigned to watch over her home is rather handsome. What can she do when the Cabaka finally begin to make their approach and her bodyguard gives her no choice but to become his mate and leave Earth?
Madison the nincompoop and Akser (?) the Alien bodyguard. This was mostly entertaining but kind of a disjointed read. It felt like three stories stuck together. In the beginning, you have Madison living on the edge of town under the shadow of the Cabaka. The evil alien race the Cabaka are coming to Earth There are a lot of conveniently (for the author) missing pieces to the story. But anyways, in the meantime, Madison's father and brother arrange for a Baat warrior to guard her and her baby daughter. Things come to a head (somehow?) and she is wisked away to the Baat ship?/floating planet?/Space station??? Then the story gets tedious and I wanted to smack Madison for being such a whiny, 'fraidy-cat nincompoop. The third part of the story felt kind of tacked on and had ginormous plot holes. It was supposed to be suspenseful but it made my eyes roll and I went into full on skim mode. The writing prose is kinda juvenile and the characters lack depth. Especially the Baat warrior. He didn't even really need a name, he was so lacking in character. I did find the first 3rd entertaining after a lackluster beginning/first couple pages. But the story and characters didn't grow from there.
Madison Gray is a single mom and a nurse and when the Cabaka come, she is enlisted into the military. But her military contacts apparently keep her working in the same hospital. Her father gets worried about her and sends her a bodyguard. A Baat named Aksel. Aksel is honored to have the position of bodyguard to Madison. He hopes the relationship becomes more.
Another book that started pretty good but didn't really stay the course for me. Several things bugged me about the story. One is when Madison calls her high level father, Sergeant Gray. Sergeants aren't exactly high level. Anyway, there were little things like that. But I did manage to stay with it and so it deserves some credit. Goodreads doesn't list this as a series but I think it is. There are other books with the same theme listed.
OK... soooo this isn't literary genius here (I say that a lot, don't I?) This is a heavy sci-fi, well maybe more heavy, pre-apocalypse kind of world and sappy romance. It held my interest. I like these kinds of reads tho (ie Grim, Claimed, etc) it's gotta be your cup of tea to enjoy.
This book was a complete waste of time. The h was so far beyond tstl it was almost silly and the H spent the majority of his time pandering to the h's insecurities, There were so many times I thought about abandoning this book but I was just too lazy to start another one.
This book was recommended to me by a Goodreads friend. I'm conflicted on how to rate this. I didn't particularly like this story but it wasn't horrible. My main problem was that I did not like Madison at all. She is not very smart, she has no self-confidence and she whines almost constantly. The repetition of her thoughts almost made me place this book in a DNF pile. Aksel had an uncomfortable personality between alpha alien military male and low self-confidence. I do think that with some decent editing that this could be a good story.
